Logs for Lynne Mclean

20-Mar-16
Was expecting something more cute and yellow - but that will do nicely thank you.

Was so convinced we'd found the brilliant camouflage when we unscrewed a plastic water pipe joint. But - no...

15-Mar-16
Freaked out when I saw a pile of prunings but fear not - the cache was still securely in place.

13-Mar-16
Was tempted to ring 111 to get the local brigade to help me find this one.

Forgot to take GPS but didn't need it. Was not where we'd imagined it but a very easy find.

Went round in circles before admitting defeat. Does every small settlement in the Waikato have its own tennis courts?

12-Mar-16
Easy find - first one for us in this area.

09-Mar-16
Finally - on our 7th attempt!. Spent too many times distracted by hatches and should've concentrated on the undergrowth. Went straight to it this time - and it was visible from the path. Glad to see the back of this frustrating cache. Time to seek out some more of our fails to cross them off the list.

07-Mar-16
Got it this time. Was far too distracted by another brick in the wall when I should've concentrated on the bird in hand. Popped a trinket in to celebrate when I found - another cache further in! Popped a trinket in that one too and left happier than our first attempt.

29-Feb-16
Determined to score a Leap Day cache so was relying heavily on this being an easy find. Fortunately it was; we even brought a senior citizen along for his first ever cache.

15-Feb-16
Too many young muggles lurking so could only give the likely area a cursory glance. Will return.

14-Feb-16
Quick in and out, with no time to repose. Thanks.

13-Feb-16
Not where we'd mentally decided it would be - a simple little hide nevertheless.

11-Feb-16
Comfortable we found the spot but couldn't reach anything. Hope it hasn't fallen further down.

08-Feb-16
Easy find - in fact so far out in the open that we felt obliged to give it a little more cover. Piha was pumping today.

03-Feb-16
GPS had us walking backwards and forwards over the train tracks. Luckily it decided to behave and finally led us to the correct spot.

Too lazy to go crawling around when I wasn't sure of the spot. Will bring junior offspring to do my dirty work next time.

Extremely easy to find. Can't help wonder on what we missed out with its initial site.

01-Feb-16
Used to watch the new bridge for years, wondering if it was ever going to be completed. Really surprised at how busy the old bridge is now - so many pleasure craft launching from the ramp. Lots of options to choose from but the GPS took us right there.
Nice little cafĂ© culture starting to develop in the nearby township.

Have never been game enough to come down this road before - now I had a good excuse. easy find for the junior cacher in attendance.

31-Jan-16
Continuing our ongoing series of disasters with multis and puzzles...

Nearly gave up on what was actually a relatively easy find.

21-Jan-16
Was driving past so checked it was indeed missing - Yes, it is. Shame, as we often use this scenic cache to introduce friends to this sport.

Had two shots at this, 24 hours apart, attacking from 2 different lines of approach. Better return here with our ace seeker as we're sucking badly in her absence.

17-Jan-16
Found this early in 2015 but realised we never logged it. Made a return visit to make sure it was still there - and completely forgot where we'd originally seen it. Finally spotted it in a better position than we'd remembered, and were delighted to meet conormcc who seemed happy to join forces.

Had to keep walking away from this one due to the sheer volume of muggles. Had a look for this back in October and didn't even come close. Simply brilliant access to a slightly dirty hideaway.

16-Jan-16
Finally on our 3rd attempt. Amazing how easy it was once we'd stopped fixating on the weather station.

09-Jan-16
Bizarrely, we found a coconut full of milk, but couldn't spot the cache. Surprised how stinky the mudflats can get when the tide goes out.

Didn't search with much conviction for this one as Our Fearless Leader decided to dispense with the GPS. It transpires we were taking the right steps, just not looking hard enough.

Easy find as sitting out in plain view. Restored to its probable rightful place. Bit sad to see the abandoned mansion on one side, and the electric fences on the other.

06-Jan-16
Nice to go caching when the wind makes the beaches unpleasant. Terrain and difficulty may be a little overstated.

Our team of junior searchers had no luck; admittedly they tried without the benefit of a GPS with them.

04-Jan-16
Finally found it on our third attempt - but had been about to give up again.

Nice little track I haven't been on for years. Watch out for muggles on MTBs - they come up fast and silent.

03-Jan-16
Lot more organised this time - adequate vessels and enough assisting fingers to plug the holes. Thanks for the requested maintenance.

02-Jan-16
Cooped up at home by the wind and rain - good to get out to score a cache that we keep driving past.

Good walk along the path amongst the wind and the crashing waves. Very relieved not to have to clamber over the rocks.

Somewhat alarmed to find this sitting out on the bench in the rain - in full view. Have returned it to its rightful place but it appears the muggles are aware of its presence.

01-Jan-16
Finally nailed this on our 3rd try.

31-Dec-15
One of the cool things about geocaching is discovering hidden treasures on your back doorstep. Have lived in the area for decades and never knew this little reserve was here.

GPS was just too vague for us - we couldn't pin down a small enough area to concentrate on.

30-Dec-15
After rescuing the lost members of the family from the Amazing maze, this was a quick find with some newbies.

Did a brief detour after the Amazing Maze. Easy find with no residents about.

29-Dec-15
GPS was a little wonky so cache was not quite where we expected it. Cache is in poor condition - just plastic ziplock bags with only the lid of the original cache in evidence.

Outstanding camouflage. If I want to show newbies the joys of geocaching, I'll point them in the direction of this one.

27-Dec-15
Found two! The current one is well-hidden by pine needles and contains a trackable; what looks to be the old one is without a lid but still holds a trinket or two.

Got it this time. Amazing what you can do with a little patience. Gorgeous views in the sunshine.

26-Dec-15
Wonderful walk through sun-dappled bush. The kids refused to swim at the falls after spotting an eel. Great excuse for some post-Xmas exercise and a cache.

24-Dec-15
GPS went haywire when we got there and couldn't even narrow down the approximate area - so we went golfing instead (to the family's delight). Don't have a good history with microcaches.

06-Dec-15
No luck. Have always looked at this basketball court from the train and wondered how to get there.
