Logs for OC_3

17-Aug-24
Thank you Mister Doctor for a cache that not only widened my knowledge but made me use many other areas outside of finding answers. Was a truly interesting challenge stepping through the questions and then extended by the final hiding place. Totally enjoyed and a favourite for it.

16-Aug-24
A quiet Sunday and a long time since I have been geocaching. Luckily this geocache was on the train line (having lost my vehicle). Was a good walk to GZ, mainly because I took the wrong track, but eventually got there (in a truly round about fashion). Thankfully the way points came up fairly quickly and I soon had the necessary data. Quick walk, to the final GZ, and the cache was quickly in hand, log signed and all back in place and in good condition. TFTC Hamuza enjoyed being back.

21-Jun-24
Had a strength training session not far away and decided to go after the two recent caches in the area. Found the first as lots of school kids and teachers turned up for Friday afternoon sport. Continued on th the next reserve which I have run across multiple times and quickly discovered the cache. However getting it was not so quick and returning it slower still. As I was leaving a young dad and his two children arrived and started looking around, unfortunately I had a meeting to get to and couldn't hand around.TFTC Cache Coco_Lily, its been a while since my last find.

I given up counting the number of strength sessions I have attended here and ran around the ovals. Today as I turned up so did bus fulls of school kids for sports day. Thankfully after a quick check around I was reminded of a cache in the UK that I searched for multiple times and there it was. Log signed and all back in place. TFTC Cache Coco_Lily and look forward to more to come.

02-Jun-24
On my way back from Docklands to Flinders Street station and decided to go via a number of mrdount's caches. This one took me a while as I crawled along the ramp wall multiple times reaching out, up and under but finding nothing. Finally resorted to the Hint and returned for an extended search where it suggested. TFTC mrdount and apologies for the time taken to log.

On my way back from Docklands to Flinders Street station and decided to go via a number of mrdount's caches. This was number two in my search and whilst the hint was fairly obvious the hundreds of places where it could be wasn't. As multiple bikers practiced their art up and down the garden paths and jumps (one being televised), I practiced the art of a visual search. Split the pyramid into section and looked up and down each section. I think it was the second or third time along that I had my AHA moment. Log signed and all returned. TFTC mrdount and apologies for the time taken to log.

On my way back from Docklands to Flinders Street station and decided to go via a number of mrdount's caches. Number three for today, arrived to a scene about 50 metres away of a driver having a tiff with parking inspectors, he was never going to win. As they continued to discuss the issue I started my search around the area. Walking around the area looking at all the signs without any success, then again with the same degree of luck. Then, there it was, unseen, but an actual shield. Retrieved, signed log and returned as the car driver departed. TFTC mrdount and apologies for the time taken to log.

On my way back from Docklands to Flinders Street station and decided to go via a number of mrdount's caches. Number four for today, arrived to a very quiet area with very few people around, was a quick find with the cache retrieved, log signed and cache returned. TFTC mrdount and apologies for the time taken to log.

28-May-24
Found on 25 May after an in depth search. My GPS was indicating a different location about 5 metres away. Moved between the two points several times and reached and poked in multiple spots. Finally there it was.TFTC Howie_sf, enjoyed the Old Spot and the chase. All was well with the cache and the log has lots of room left.

06-Jan-24
I have to admit to being in this area multiple times for orienteering and fitness training, but never really paid attention the mystery /puzzle caches, most being so complex and needing the ability of a software expert. Thankfully I had a look at this cache and discovered it actually made sense. 15 minutes later I was heading to a train to Darling Station with new coordinates loaded. A brief overhead walk got me to the correct side of the railway and the compass had me heading in the right direction. Suddenly I'm being told to go backwards and a 90 degree fix solved everything. Once at GZ the clue (and a give away) made a lot of sense (and a great assist for my height. Log gained, signed and returned.TFTC Hamuza, I will look up other of your caches, you've changed my outlook on puzzles.

20-Oct-23
Just arrived in Albury for a reunion and was dropped off at Albury station. Enjoyed the chase and after a short period of sticking fingers where they didnt belong, chanced on a tell tale sign. TFTC and a favourite from me

27-Aug-23
Arriving early for an orienteering event so that I could chase down the cache identified close by. My first round of searching did not disclose anything so I had a warm up and tried again. This time a tell tale sign gave me a hint and I was able to locate the cache and sign the log.
Congratulations on your first cache hide.
TFTC BorisB&Natasha & Nut bear.

14-Aug-23
Having volunteered to run an Orienteering event at this reserve it was a pleasant surprise to also find a geocache here. One day later with the notification and I may have got a third FTF in 19 years. Once the GPS had settled, even from a distance, the location probability was fairly high. 6:00pm and miserable weather also meant that the reserve was clear of everything, except orienteers arriving for the event. Quick find, log signed and all returned.
TFTC TanSaf. I must find time to complete the circuit.

29-Jul-23
Currently car-less this cache appeared a short walk away from my residence. So runners on and off I went, this is a lovely area surrounded by playgrounds, great playing fields and a great walk through the surrounding bush type land. Coordinates were very accurate and brought me quickly to the GZ. Took a while of waiting as a number of walkers, mums and dads with prams and cyclists were fairly continuous. Got a quick break and retrieved the cache then waited for another quiet period to return it. TFTC Cherryslice88 and decided to do a further wander finishing up with 10kms.

03-May-23
Melbourne traffic gone mad. 45 minutes to travel approximately 6km to the cache and 12 minutes to get home! In between was about 5 minutes walk and 5 minutes to locate and sign the log. All is well with the cache.
TFTC Mister Doctor.

30-Apr-23
Found on a quiet Sunday morning. A few bikes along the bike path and one electric scooter with father and daughter on board, but otherwise no activity. The required numbers were quickly found and ABC and DEF calculated, followed by a short walk. Coords were very accurate and stopped me opposite the cache. Log retrieved and signed and all placed back together. Still plenty of room for others to sign and perfectly dry. TFTC ahomburg and a few of the others from yourself that I have had fun in finding.

29-Apr-23
Hi Robmc. was in the area for an orienteering event today and had seen a number of your geocache hides in the area. After the event I had time to pick up two of them No. 1 and No. 7.
I had noticed that No.1 had a previous comment so took some paper along and placed it into the cache to allow cachers to sign off on it. The cache was placed back in an obvious hide and could be seen clearly from the path. I have moved it where I think it was originally and cannot now be viewed by passers by, but is well inside the coords for the cache. Hope this assists you and thankyou for the caches in a wonderful park.

Hi Robmc, my second of your caches for the day. A quick find as we were set up in the nearby picnic shelters for an orienteering event. It was a quick find (well not that quick as I had to go back to get the cache colour). Thanks again for your hides in a most enjoyable park. I even enjoyed the orienteering control hidden around the park, although a few of them were on the top of apparent mountains. TFTC Robmc.

It was getting dark as I parked up at the golf course and I wondered if it was wise in the dark. GPS quickly took me to the general area and it certainly had to be one of a number of possible locations. All of them had fairly dense branches etc so it was a great puzzle to work out how to get in and out. Thankfully my phone battery was close to 100% and I was able to use the torch to assist. Eventually came across a secure cache and signed the log, returning the cache to its sleepy hide. TFTC gmj3191

27-Apr-23
The sky was looking dark and the wind had started blowing when I arrived at this site. Parked up just down the side road and took a walk to GZ. Following the defined Geocacher trail I soon had the cache in hand and log signed. All returned and in good condition. TFTC BernieH

24-Apr-23
Apologies for time taken to log. In the area on an orienteering event and this was right next to the start point. Collected all the information and worked out the required coordinates. Unfortunately it placed me very close to a young lady on the phone who seemed to be settled in. Waited around a while and wandered here and there but to no avail. Decided to go and complete the orienteering event. 60 mins later I arrive back and the area is clear, just as well I had a head torch and there was the cache. Log signed, all is well, and cache returned. TFTC Fleabag.

15-Apr-23
Went by the cache name and wandered straight to the area, only to find that I could not find it.
Decided to use the GPS and let it do its job and woo and behold their it was. Log signed and cache returned. TFTC BernieH

The coordinates took me to a GZ where I did a lot of looking but didn't find anything. Increased my area and eventually came across the cache. At this time I have returned the cache to where the coordinates indicated it should be. TFTC BernieH

In the area for an orienteering event and to pick up a few caches before the skies let go. Information for this was collected quickly and the coordinates placed into my waypoint and off I went. Accurate coordinates quickly had me looking in a single area and smiling at the cache. Logged and replaced. Still plenty of room in the log. TFTC BernieH

09-Apr-23
Saw this come up not to far away from me, five or so days earlier we had actually been here for an orienteering event. Quickly made my way to the GZ, and given Cherryslice88's great ability at accurate coordinates I started my search, multiple times thinking about the platform above. I widened my search area to look all around the area and whilst climbing the hill I espied what I should have seen at first. Log signed and replaced. TFTC Cherryslice88.

01-Apr-23
In the area for an orienteering event and always happy with a cache nearby to pick up. Area around the tennis courts were extremely quiet, not even a dog owner around. A quick find with log signed and returned. You will be happy to know that whilst we organise a cake-o every Saturday, we always take our rubbish with us. TFTC 5&felix.

My apologies Earthbound Chief but the time has been well spent reading up on MAJ Gen Elliot.
This cache was an eye opener to me as I served almost 50 years in the Australian Defence Force (Army) and had never heard of him. A man who served as a Private and Corporal in the Boer War receiving the Distinguished Conduct Medal (for an OR ranked one below the Victoria Cross) and also Mentioned in Dispatches, received a congratulatory telegram from GEN Lord Kitchener's for his military skills in the defence of his post, and given a British Army commission to Lieutenant (but chose to stay with the Victorian Imperial Bushmen). At the end of the Boer War he continued his service joining the militia in 1904 as a 2nd LT; Lieutenant 1905; Captain 1909; Major 1911; LTCOL 1913; promoted Brigadier 1916. He was eventually promoted MAJ Gen in 1927. His promotion through the officer ranks had to have been due to his superb military skills. I expect his loss of promotion to MAG Gen was his ability to inform those above him of their errors on command decisions which he considered would cost the lives of his men and many others beside. A respected man, especially to his troops, who saw him go forward to no mans land to recon the area they were about to attack and to be there for them when the attack was over. I will visit his gravestone again and will mark 23 March in my diary. Lest We Forget Pompey. Rest in Peace, your duty well and truly done.
TFTC Earthbound Chief, this is one I will never forget.

05-Mar-23
Please note that this cache is currently unreachable due to work for Moomba?

20-Feb-23
Finally managed to change the cache colour from Blue to Yellow. Didn't find it last time here (Feb 2015) with BernieH and the CO Earthbound Chief confirmed it had crept away. This time round the cache was exactly where its coords said it was and the log was finally retrieved and signed. TFTC Earthbound Chief.

A drive by on a Monday afternoon heading to Kingston Heath Reserve for an orienteering event. Accurate coords allowed me to park my car right in front of the fairly obvious hiding place and protect me from the people mulling around store fronts etc. A quick feel around produced little, so a lay down on the ground and quick look around produced the goods. Still took a few twists and turns of the arms and hands but it was soon in hand. Log signed and cache replaced. TFTC 1k2ate.

01-Feb-23
Attending an Orienteering event in the area and decided to check up on caches. There was one a short distance from the start/finish point. Having completed my run I log on and went for a walk. Coords took me to the GZ and I started looking around, leaning over and playing touchy feely, to no event. Eventually thought wider and enlarged my walk to a geotrail and quickly came across the cache. Log signed and all returned. A favourite point for a well thought out hide. TFTC holsky

18-Jan-23
Apologies for the time taken to log this cache. Attending an Orienteering event in the area and logged on just in case and there, across the creek, was a cache. Took a while to do the creek crossing, eventually gave up and walked around. A trip up the steep slope and accurate coords assisted in a quick find. You wonder why so many people have found the need to cut holes in the wire fence preventing entry into the freeway area??? Log signed and cache returned.

17-Jan-23
Apologies, found this early January but disappeared for a while and forgot to log on return.

Enjoyed finding the dual wands and the their locations. One being very tight and the other requiring me for the TOTT get in my car boot due to a height restriction.

Thoroughly enjoyed the search and the cache.

Thanks Hamuza.

14-Jan-23
Found on 11 Jan before taking part in an orienteering event. Start point was adjacent to toilets so i had a 150m walk to place me at GZ. Once there it was a quick find, signing of the log and replacement of the cache. All is well with it.
TFTC and the adventure.

09-Jan-23
A quick find after attending an Orienteering event at the Reserve.
Pencil is still there and room for a few more discoveries, but not many.

Having located cd420xx's third cache I headed home via the other two. Once again the coords steered me to a very likely location and a cacher trail cemented it. Cache was quickly in hand and log signed with everything replaced as it was.
TFTC cd420xx

The cache name set the GZ for this one and it was hard to miss it. Took a little bit of searching here and there before I came across it. Cache in hand I dropped it and scrambled to grab , thankfully on the first grab. Log signed and cache reassembled and returned. Forehead wiped of sweat and headed off.
TFTC cd420xx

Saw it when it first arrived but figured by the time I get there it will have been found, as it was, so I finished my brunch instead. Parked up at the cafe and walked around the corner. Must have been a while since I've been here as I walked past the first opening until I looked down and seen the path going over the creek. Back around I went. Past cache 2 and then cache 1 and into GZ for cache 3. Coords placed me in the centre of possible area and hiding spots, so I started the hunt, under here, over there, up down and around. Then it came to me there is more than one and I had the cache in hand. Log signed and cache returned.

First cache for 2023 and really enjoyable. Walked past waypoint 1 not paying attention and was quickly redirected back with accurate coordinates. I had never noticed the brickwork inserted into the wall even though I had walked past it so many times. ABC in place and onward to waypoint 2, was hard to believe the solar output generated here, it is amazing and, I hope, the building of the future. DEF gained Waypoint 3 worked out and I wandered around a shopping centre in - out around the floor, back out, around the build in - out, At lot more than 300m, but at least in was cool on the in bits. Eventually worked out the error of my ways and soon had the magnificent handiwork of Mister Doctor in hand. Log signed and all returned.
TFTC Mister Doctor and a Favourite Point.

27-Dec-22
Found on a very hot day. Sweat pouring down from my forehead into my eyes as I looked for the cache. Quickly located GZ with the accurate cords and soon had the cache in hand. Back to the car to sign the log, if only the air conditioner actually worked. Log signed and cache returned. TFTC A2986 and the end of the year souvenir.

26-Dec-22
Damn, was here a week ago for an Orienteering event, could have been a timely find. Still perhaps I'll get in before Bernie!

02-Oct-22
Never realised that there was once an earlier cache here. Started numerous orienteering events just to the West, if only I had known. I was away when this was published but took a diversion on my way home. Thankfully I had a recent acquisition in my car boot which quickly enable the cache to be gained and the log signed. TFTC ahomburg.

27-Aug-22
Attended an orienteering event in Lilydale Lake park and having driven 39km from home I could not leave without picking up one or two geocaches. This was the first on the way out. Parked up not far from it and took a walk down the slippery hill to the pathway, which was then followed to the Ash. Had a good walk around and into the Ash before going aha and finding the cache. Thankfully it was only the cache that I found and nothing else creepy crawly. Log signed (dry and plenty of space left) and all replaced. TFTC DJZETG

Parked nearby and followed my GPS to the GZ for the cache. At each change of lights as John Street cleared and turning traffic from the crossroad disappeared I had a number of 30 second intervals to search without looking too obvious. After each interval I moved a little here and a little there. Then memories of a long ago distant cache came to mind and indeed there it was. Log signed and returned to its hide with an understanding of the hint. TFTC iTEEM

20-Aug-22
Had an appointment up along High Street Road but (un)fortunately the person that I came to see was at lunch. This being a short walk away beckoned for me to go and attempt to locate and log it. A beautiful area on the corner of two extremely busy roads and fenced in on the other sides by long lines of house fences. Seems a pity that it probably doesn't get many visitors to just sit and admire the area. Coords were spot on and the cache location was soon to shine out at me. Unfortunately I was unable to sign the log on the day as I had no writing implement with me (hadn't thought of that as I began my journey). Returned later in the week to sign the log and claim a smiley. TFTC Fleabag.

13-Aug-22
Apologies for my tardiness in logging this cache.

Managed to log the Mount Waverley SideTracked earlier on today on my way to an orienteering event. Called by this one on my return journey as the sun was starting to drop over the horizon, luckily I still had my head torch with me. The earlier cache surely assisted in locating this one and I was lucky enough that the drivers of a lot of cars were still on the way home from footy. Log signed and returned. All well with the cache. TFTC n0w0rries

Was just about to head out the door for an orienteering event when I noticed this cache come up at my local station. A quick stop on the way through and a park right next to the allocated area, cannot be bad. A walk around revealed a possible hide but it was just out of reach. So after a bit of scaling up and around I arrived at the prospective hide. I waited quietly as a delivery driver pulled up and into the nearby shops then accessed the hiding spot, retrieved the cache and log, signed off and returned all before the delivery driver returned. i took the alternate way back to my vehicle as it appeared to be the safer method for a downward path. TFTC n0w0rries.
Once again a 2TF and for a cache 500m from my front door!

07-Aug-22
Finally finished tasks on the computer and decided to have a look at my email, logged on and there was the notice for this cache, note to self - leave email running so that you see notifications when they come in, not two hours later!
Anyway into the car and a quick trip down two blocks and parked up across the road from the TAFE. Entered the TAFE via the back door and it seemed strangely quiet for a change, no-one at all around and not a person at the station, perfect time for a look around. Coords quickly brought me into the area and a general search did not show anything obvious. So I stopped, looked around and asked myself where would I put it and who and behold there was a tell tale sign. Cache located, log signed (although I did look for the log for a minute or two before discovering the obvious great use for a pre-loved tape) all put back together and returned to its hide. Great hide Hamuza and 4.98 metres of log left to go. TFTC enjoyed the search.

The history of the area is actually quite interesting with this site being a manufacturing site for, I believe, the Matilda tank during World War II and then used for housing fabrication after the War. It has come a long way since those times.

30-Jul-22
Beautiful day at Westerfolds for a Park Orienteering event.

After the event I decided to take a quieter, gentler walk around the park and pick up a few geocaches. This was number one, about 200 metres from the event start. Arrived at GZ and had a wander as my GPS was telling me where it was and I could not locate it anywhere. Eventually I gave in to the GPS and started to dig deeper, still took one or two trials but then, there it was. Log signed and replaced in the correct way. TFTC atsmug and a favourite for a fairly unique hide.

A fair walk from number one, but I had been on these tracks during the orienteering event so it was helpful. Came across the GZ at the sites namesake and began a search of the area. It ended up a fairly quick find and the log was soon signed and the cache replaced. All is well with the cache. TFTC Datruk & Team Coxy
