Logs for Rd King

25-May-19
Finally able to grab the hide I have trying to get to for years. It was well worth the wait. Now I can proudly add my name to the list of thousands of other cachers who have visited this historic hide. SL and replaced as found.

Many thanks to my wife who, although not a geocacher, planned our vacation so we would pass through Mingo. Also, in keeping with this Memorial Day, I would also note that I signed the log in memory of HD JP, a Navy shipmate, mentor and friend who introduced me to and hooked me on geocaching shortly after I retired from the Navy in 2007. I would not be standing at GZ if not for him.

Many thanks to The Kansas Stasher for having the foresight and dedication to create, place and maintain this hide. TFTC.

I've had this cache on my "bucket list" for quite a while. But somehow I could never get myself motivated enough to make the 8-hour round-trip drive from home. Well today, I decided to go for it. To paraphrase a classic commercial: 8-hours of driving, 3-caches (including by some accounts the world's 19th oldest cache), a tank of gas, a new Jasmer Challenge square filled in and rain - PRICELESS!

This trip was everything I had hoped for. A nice drive through scenic countryside, rewarded by a find. Found the container and proudly added my name to the list of renown cachers. Left two TBs, and grabbed the Holiday Ammo Can TB to move on to a new home soon. Signed logged and locked up the container as found.

Many thanks to Ed Normandy for creating, placing and keeping this hide alive. In a day of micros and P&Gs, it is nice to return to the kind of caches that got this sport/hobby/obsession going. TFTC.

Last day of a 4-day, 4 state cache run with HDJP. Spent our last day completing a well done series and tackling many other great hides. Unfortunately, yesterday's rain prevented us from tackling many hides. Those we did attempt were right where they were supposed to be, although many took a bit to find. Replaced logs and damaged containers as necessary. Many thanks to all those who created, place and maintained these hides. As a group y'all have certainly created a target rich environment, TFTC(s)

After a full day of helping a friend weed, trim and mulch, the last thing I needed was more exercise. But I needed a cache to fill in this date I my calendar. And since I was driving right by this hide, I decided I could handle any additional aches and pains with some Aleve I had at home! Able to reach GZ using more of a "crab recline/bear slide" approach. Thankfully I found the container fairly quickly. Signed log and replaced as found. Anybody got a hot tub I can make use of! TFTC.

GC.com should rename its 31 Day of August challenge to 31 Day of Wet Caching in August (at least in West TN). Although I had 12 hides on my list, I could only get to 4 before the deluge hit. This was number 3. I would have waited out the shower if I didn't have an hour drive (in the rain) to get back home. I was happy that I could cross off 6 August before calling it a day. Let's see what the weatherman predicts for tomorrow. TFTC.

With ominous clouds looming, I gave thanks that there was an indoor earth cache nearby. OK, I'm a fair-weather cacher. Got to the center shortly after it opened and was surprised by the number of muggles present. If they host weddings at this site, I hope they have plenty of cover.

Made my way to the woodless wonder to learn about this specimen. Spent a few moments wandering around the grounds before the downpour started. Answers on the way. TFTEC and helping cross off the 3rd on the August caching challenge.

After going after "Redneck Caching," I appreciate the reprieve this hide offered in terms of work! Signed log and replaced as found. TFTC.

Nicely done. A good place to park and a little bit of a walk. Signed log and replaced as found. I am sure this hide will get plenty of business. TFTC.
