Logs for Silver Ferns

Spent sometime looking under clumps of trees but to no avail.
The area looks like it has been recently mulched and after the torrential rains of the last three days we could see no sign of where the cache may be.
The area looks like it has been recently mulched and after the torrential rains of the last three days we could see no sign of where the cache may be.
After 3 days of torrential rain we made our way to this cache to find the whole area had been flooded and the water only just receding. We had decided it was probably a lost cause as the creek banks had been broken and the place had been scoured by the current. We were about to leave when we noticed a plastic bag sitting in the open at the top of the bank - the cache had obviously been dislodged in the flood.
We did a swap wrote in the log and then placed the cache in a tree in the away from the bank where it would not be discovered when the council comes to do a clean up of all the fallen trees and debis that has been deposited at the site. The new co-ords are S26 24.787 E152 55.832.

Found easily with the help of visitors from NZ and the GPS in our new PDA.
Took nothing, left one of NZs brand new coins.

Had a picnic lunch in the little park and a walk around the nearby cemetery. Took a while to locate the right tree but eventually found the cache. Took paper clip left TIC TACS.
Gorgeous trees. Would be a nice spot on a hot day. My Father visiting from NZ found the cache even though I had actually looked in that area before he did.
Took fridge magnet left stamps.

Having a bit of a problem with the GPS, but found the cache with the help of the clues. A few muggles about but managed to retrieve it without incident. TNLN

Find no. 2 for the day.
Still having problems with the GPS and had to ring Liz and Bruce who were also visiting QLD, to get a hint. Lots of mozzies so we didnt linger too long. TNLN.

A very very hot day for such a steep climb. One nuisance muggle would not leave and was looking at us very strangely when we also lingered. He finaly departed but then we had a little difficulty locating the cache as we were reluctant to put our hands anywhere near the heaps of spiders webs. TNLN
Locating the cache was easy. Getting it out was a bit trickier. We werent at all impressed by the enormous spider who seemed to claim ownership. Gave us a horrible fright. TNLN

Found around 2pm Australia Day. Extremely hot so only lingered long enough to locate cache and have a quick look at the river. A little reluctant to lift out cache having found a huge spider in a similar cache not far away earlier in the day.
Took alien, left tyre lever.

Our 3rd Hobart Geocache, all within 1 1/2 hours, which is all the time we had to spend on our brief visit from Adelaide.
Obviously we came to the cache from a different direction than was intended as we did not see any reference to anything historical.
We had however been out on a cruise the day before and was told of the fate of the Illawarra.
Yet another view of your lovely harbour.
Took nothing, left nothing.

Our first Tasmanian cache! We were in Hobart for 2 days for the Wooden Boat festival and decided to do a bit of Geocaching nearby. Once again a pretty little spot that a visitor would normally not stumble across. Nice to find cache without having to disturb the area around. Took 2x$1 scratchies, left 1x$2.
Our second Tasmanian cache. Nice view of the bridge. Had to dodge a bit of doggie doo, but a pleasant walk in spite of that.
Took Tassie devil stick pin as souvenir of our weekend in Hobart. Left key ring.

Found approx 5.30pm by Silver Ferns from Adelaide South Aust. Edward (aged who was visiting from France actually made the find. We were visiting family in CHCH and this is our first NZ cache. Great view - scary road. Edward took the Pukeka fridge magnet and we left a moustache brush? and a Euro coin.
We were visiting family in NZ (from Adelaide) and decided to introduce other family members to the sport. We enjoyed the walk but despite there being 7 of us we could not find the cache.

Must be something to do with Friday 13th. We couldnt find the cache even tho others seem to have no trouble. We could see a thong on the other side of a pool of water but it was too deep to wade and we werent prepared to get wet. We did look around in other areas but a small snake wriggled thru and we got spooked. Had two other Kiwis with us and any hint of slithery things panic us.

Found after a couple of false tries, turning up the wrong tracks. Great little spot. Hard to imagine a paddle steamer once used this waterway. Had a bit of trouble with finding GZ initially but patience paid off. Dad who was with us from NZ actually found the cache, and constantly reminds us of how clever he is. Took swizel stick, left cocktail decoration. Also dropped off travel bug, TLC Poo whom we grabbed from Bravo Hotel on Gold Coast earlier in the week. We thought it kinder to leave him in sunny Qld. rather than take him back to S.A. with us.

Found fairly easily thanks to clue. We like caches that don't require disturbing the environment too much. No trouble with bull ants but there were some very large spiders in webs nearby. Visiting from S.A. and not equiped with any swaps so took nothing. Log book probably needs replacing as pages fell out once opened. Found TLC Poo (our first travel bug find) so will take him for a little journey further north.

Armed with new co-ords, we set off again to find cache. Success this time and fairly quickly. Clue important as it stopped us from stomping over all the area (and maybe upsetting snakes.) Took fishing swivels left tape measure.

At last an area in the Melbourne CBD where the GPS works well. Enjoyed the walk along the river and the opportunity to see another interesting spot that we had never been to before. Found the cache very quickly. It is very similar to one in Adelaide. Took nothing, left nothing.
Our second disappointment for the day. We are fairly certain we found the right area and plenty of possum poo around would suggest it was the same spot the previous Cachers were in. Unfortunately fairly recently the area had also been used as a toilet by some human as well and the area was rather unsavoury and we did not feel much inclined to linger. It was mid morning on a Sunday and there were joggers and walkers everywhere. Lots of good hiding spots. Will have another look next time we are in Melbourne.
Tried today for our second Melbourne cache while on holiday from S.A. Boy is it hard to get the GPS to work amongst all the tall buildings!
Found the area fairly easily and being early Sun morning all was very quiet, but we could not locate the cache. From the clues, we were certain we knew where it should be but after 30 minutes in the cold we gave up.

We were in Melbourne to catch up with friends who flew in from NZ. Decided to introduce them to Geocaching. Enjoyed a look around the area. Had great difficulty locating the cache even though we knew where it had to be. Had almost given up when Rob spied it. Very well hidden. A busy spot and not easy to look about without looking suspicious to passersby and the cameras. Took nothing, left nothing.

Found mid afternoon on a warm and windy Qld day. Once we found a way over the creek, the GPS took us straight to the spot. My Aunt from NZ was with us and we let her choose her trophy. She took the little rubber duck and we left a blue martian.

Our second visit to Qld in a year (from SA) and took Dad (from NZ) with us on our search. At the top we met a paramedic holidaying from Auckland and with the terrain in the search area we were reluctant to let him leave as we thought his services might be required.
Climbed up,down and all over the place for well over an hour and had no luck. A clue would be helpful for our trip next year.

Found 10.50am on a sunny Sunday morning. Very clever. The clues were a great help and we located the cache pretty quickly. Took thumb massager left tag strap.
Our fifth and last cache for the day. Had lunch in the nearby parklands and then wandered off in direction indicated. Lots of people about so had to be carefull. the GPS was pretty accurate and the clues were a great help. Took nothing. Must get some smaller goodies for all these micro caches.
Our third cache for the morning.Took a little while to locate. Cache was a bit bigger than we expected.Took nothing, left NZ $1.00 coin donated (reluctantly) by Dad who is visiting from Dunedin.Off for a picnic lunch now in the nearby park.
Dad is visiting from NZ so took him on a tour of Adelaide via cache sites. A mad keen golfer, we had to remind him to focus on the job at hand and to stop looking enviously at the golfers having a leisurely round on a beautiful autumn day.
Loved the hidey hole and luckily we had just the right tool for the job.

Arrived back in Goolwa after 10 days boating up river. Our car battery was flat so headed off for a drive to charge it and decided this cache was about the right distance away. Havent been to Pt Sturt by car for many years.
Found the cache fairly quickly, after scaling the fence. Took nothing, left nothing. Cache needs a new pen/pencil as the current one is blunt.

This was the last of five caches we tackled by water on our Easter - Anzac weekend trip from Goolwa to Mannum. Took friends with us on their first cache. Moored on bank and walked up the steep and slippery road/track. Initially the two GPS were pointing to one side of the road but after exhaustive searching we took new readings which eventually pointed us in the right direction. Must have been the power lines. Took fairy left packet of safety pins. Fabulous view.

On the third day of our river trip from Goolwa to Young Husband we moored our boat upstream from the spot and then headed off in our rubber duck. At the area we found an old rowing boat (and lots of mud) and once ashore we were greeted by a bearded, barefooted guy who had set up camp on the island for the Easter weekend. Obviously snakes and nettle dont bother him, nor the incessant roar of power boats very close by. We told him what we were doing and he led us to the spot where the cache was. He had looked at it but taken nothing according to him. We found however that the log book and pencil were both missing (maybe more). We took a keyring and left a ram mask.
Moored our boat nearby. Gps led us straight to the cache. Lots of cars passing as there were many skiers in the area.Took nothing left fridge magnet.
19-Apr-03
We called in at the cache area on the second day of a boating trip up river. Had a number of other boaties with us and decided to introduce some of them to geocaching. Knew from the clues where we would end up even before leaving Goolwa but could find the cache despite there being 7 of us looking. Spoke to Lynne but with Tony being taken ill the day before she was understandably distracted and was not sure if the cache was still there. We opened drawers looked in pots etc etc but to no avail and I must say we all felt a bit uneasy going thru someone elses stuff.
Will try again next time we are up that way.

Well done.

Introduced Darwin friends to geocaching. Decided to do this cache and the one nearby in the racecourse. Both caches seem to have diasappeared. Seans Lunchbox was there on Sept 30 when we went there on our own.

Left work in the city at 5.30 and found 3 caches by 6.15 - this being the third. Another great little park that we would would not normally stumble across. Found the cache fairly easily although it is well hidden. The container needs a new rubber band to hold it closed. Took butterfly clip, left alien.

Found this one on the way home from work.
Love the camoflage! Very nice box of goodies - had trouble deciding what to take. Finally decided on the goggles (and the Freddo to keep us going till dinner) left set of hex tools. Left site before we got nabbed and herded inside. We do look a little crazy wandering around poking under bushes and looking up trees etc. Could someone tell us what that pig was there for.

Found 2.15pm
Parked further away than we needed to, but enjoyed the walk. The wind was blowing so strongly it kept setting off our car alarm. A great time of the year to visit this site as there are so many plants flowering. It had been raining so some parts of the track very very slippery. After one false start and another encounter with those prickly bushes with the yellow flowers, we found the cache. Took map, left magnetic pick up tool. 'Independence' clue kept us on the straight and narrow.

Much easier with the correct co-ordinates. It was blowing 40-45knots. We didn't dare stand too near the edge at the top in case we were blown over. What are those prickly green bushes with yellow flowers that S.A. Geocachers are so keen to hide their caches near?
Had to jog again. This time not because it was getting dark, but to avoid the squalls of rain. Took fridge magnet, left Scuba Kiwi. Team Piggy must have been there after us as the lipstick was still there.

Started the day with Liz and Bruce's 'Dont be Bluffed' cache and finished with this one. Like KIAMATA we also ended up on the wrong side of the river, but it gave us a reason to try the swing. The GPS wasn'nt being very helpful and still showed 10m to ground zero when we spotted a likely looking hiding place and located the cache.
Enjoyed the walk along the river bank and returned along the streets so we could look at some of the lovely homes in the area. Our bet is Liz and Bruce found this spot while out and about on their mountain bikes.
Took alien left diary.

Left Deep Thought Cache and headed off to this one. Beautiful drive on a cold and blustery day. Have spent quite a lot of time in this area in the past, but todays drive took us thru areas we had never seen before. At the top of the dirt road we had to park for a while until a photographer had finished snapping the stunning views. We could not search for the cache without him seeing us. The GPS pointed us straight at the hiding place, but it still took us a while to find the cache as it is well hidden. Cache needs new pen -blue colouring pencil very difficult to write with particularly as the log is slightly damp. Sending card soon.

Found about 5.15 on Monday evening. Not a good time to drive around this area. Peak traffic a bit of a problem. Once off the main roads we drove to within a couple of hundred metres of the site. Clues + GPS lead us directly to the location. Had to wait for walkers to pass by. Took nothing, left nothing.
