Picked this one up during a stroll around the lake on a cloudy morning, right before the storm came to get us.
Easy find, at an obvious location.

A flash of metallic blue glinted from its elevated nook, and beckoned us to pick it up.
Log is too wet to sign. Took a pic instead.

We were lucky to reach the Astro Café early; it hadn't opened yet, and only rabbits on their morning rounds might have spied us pull the cache out of a rock uncomfortably close to some observatory workshops.
Thanks to being dragged out of bed just after 5am, we made it to the top of Mount John before most folks. It was gloriously deserted, and the cache was soon pulled out of its rocky nest.
The 8am sun was still kind on the sparsely covered summit, and we did enjoy stunning vistas that cloudless morning; as well as spot countless straw-hued rabbits that call Mount John home and outhouse.

Access was by a gravel road that threatened to vibrate our meek Nissan to pieces. A latched gate at the start of the road had to be opened. Worried about entering till we saw muggles on tour who had entered earlier and were ahead along that road.
Reached the memorial and worked out the puzzle for the final coordinates. Thankfully, the cache was where it was supposed to be, and we quickly signed it before the midday sun could toast us to a crisp.
The lake lookout was off the busy tourist trail and enjoyably serene. Remote enough that we returned after dark for a spot of stargazing! TFTC!

Jumbled rocks off trail that invites clambering: Check
Shrub-thumping, covered in loose pine needles: Check
Brightly coloured plastic cache peeking through gap in rocks: Check

Nice shady picnic spot, we did use it on the way back down. Shyly smiling at the many muggles slogging past us uphill. TFTC!

Muggles were having a picnic by the GZ, so we decided to come back on the return leg, and had our own picnic there undisturbed, and cache was quickly found. TFTC!
Found it, though brain was too sun-scrambled to recall much of anything.

Found it, but we were burnt to a crisp by the end of the walk.

Found it! The sun seems to shine straight down the valley all day.

Found it, stashed under a bush. It was a sunny sunny sunny day. Shade never felt so good.

Found it while cycling down the bike trail, a spectacular ride with splashes of autumn colour.

The Arrow River bike trails are a must-do in the autumn. The signature prickly shrub hinted the GZ's presence. Fortunately, no band-aids required after performing retrieval. TFTC!
Poked about in the trees near the ruin like a pair of peckish Swamp Hens, in plain sight of the main track. Found the cache with some persistence, then hopped back on our bikes to soak up more of the stunning Arrow River bike trail. TFTC!
Arrowtown was just having their Autumn Festival, "Gold Digger" that day meant trampling through brilliant yellow undergrowth.
Just off the well-used track, did some light bashing to reach the GZ. Coordinates seem good. My approach permitted a convenient lucky glimpse of the cache container. TFTC!

Park-n-Grab en route to Te Anau, a short way out from Homer Tunnel.
Nearly overlooked The Arrow That Shows, there were larger signs beckoning across a clearing. Muggles appeared and went over first; so we hung back and then, ironically, noticed the actual GZ. TFTC!

Stomped through an enchanting mossy beech forest. Some of the beech had growths on them, "burls", that resembled gnarled faces.
Branched off to follow a lake outlet to a GZ, marvelling at Southland's crystal waters. One of the most atmospheric walks this trip! TFTC!

Stopover en route to Te Anau from Milford Sound. Began as a forest walk down to a fern-covered basin with a view of the lake. GZ found as hinted, tangibly relieved no bush-bashing required. The "loop walk" caused some surprise by depositing us along the road the last 300m return. Still, a great stretch for the legs! TFTC!

A hidden area with dirt trails, likely known to locals only. Apparently a filming location for LotR, the area flanks a dramatic bend in the river.
The banks are sheer in places with significant under-cutting by the river. The water is clear, revealing a bed of smooth pebbles, shallow enough at times to cause fascinating diversions in flow.
Found the GZ with the helpful hint. Thanks for the LotR reveal, and the caches too!

We went in to the GZ through the forest and found an easier way out. Thanks for the LotR reveal, and the cache too!

After a thigh-blasting hour of gaining elevation, reached the Basket. It remains a hit with muggles who hop in and photograph themselves pretending to be fruit.
A nearby bench sat us well for our victory picnic; also affording us a watchful eye over the GZ and when it would be sufficiently muggle-free to make for a dash-n-grab!

Not _quite_ a Park-n-Grab. Muggles thronged the parking area ferociously wielding cameras. We were pleased to break away and head up the empty well-marked trail. As described, at the first bend, under a tussock bush, a large container sat. TFTC!

The hints helped loads. We picked our way through a sea of what could be rabbit poo to a suspicious hide. Jackpot! TFTC!
Being a historic sheepdog competition site, Mount Iron remains popular for dogs and their owners. Many pooches bounded past us uphill, panting loudly, drooling freely. We were doing our best just putting one foot down ahead of the other!
Enjoyed a glorious picnic lunch atop a muggly summit, stealthily picking out the cache in between sandwiches. And then, a knee-punishing descent back down. What Easter Joy! TFTC!

The first sunshine we had seen in days, our first chance to get out and stretch our legs, and our first cache found in NZ! What a lovely find on a lovely walk. TFTC!
07-Nov-13
Was poking around the area the GPS pointed to, when geohub chanced upon it in plain sight a short distance away. TFTC!

Cache was easy to find but had a hard time extracting and replacing the logsheet. What a tight fit.

Intriguing feature, seemingly misplaced in this inhospitable environment.
Dropped in after Pinnacles, thanks to presence of cache.

Searched everywhere but could not find the elusive cache. Enjoyed the pinnacle walk nonetheless.

Too many muggles when we came in the late afternoon, had to abandon search. Came back the next morning, searched around the area looking very suspicious to the early morning traffic, and finally found it in a well hidden position after much perserverance.

Great spot with a great view of the lighthouse.
Thanks for bringing us to this beautiful vantage point.

Hit n run! Lucky no curious muggles parking their transports.
TFTC!
TFTC!
Nicely hidden, but not too difficult to spot, as long as there are no muggles watching.

Picturesque hill-top chapel oozing day-tripping muggles. A quick find after the group left. TFTC!
Greetings from Singapore!
We were waiting for our evening flight home from Hobart,
and this hunt was a beautiful use of our last evening in Taz.
Most visitors would not have the privilege of the panoramic sunset we experienced.

Treacherous climb up and down said slope after a night's rain, but found it in the end.
Hankering for cafe latte after seeing the frothy falls.

Weekday morning was quiet enough to sign the cache discreetly.

Very many muggles. But the benches and pretty area were good enough reason for us to loiter. A well-placed hide. Logbook is full and needs maintenance.

Nice to be able to blend into the scene as a tired walker, while waiting for the right moment to sign off. A thoughtful location. TFTC!
Found it! While it is true one need not leave the path, a little posturing is required to peer into the right place. TFTC!
Nicely camo'd hide. Our last cache for the day, we were briefly hailed on, then rewarded with the most brilliant rainbow we'd ever seen. TFTC!
