This time was different. I was determined, but I brought friends to help make this a little more equitable. I brought my friends alpha14, gamma42, delta6, and omega3. We also tried to get pi3.14 to join us, but he was nowhere a'round' to be found. So except for pi3.14 and rho who was paddling in the South Dakota Kayak Challenge, we had all of the Greek Squad back in action.
We made our way within one click of ground zero and then it was time to approach on foot. We made our way through the terrain and eventually got within 100 feet of the goal. There they were. Vigilant and aware of everything going on, but they were not so aware of us. We were stealthy enough, but we just couldn't get closer. We set up a diversion just a few hundred feet away with fireworks and that seemed to get their attention. We were quick enough to grab what we little distance remained to make the signatures, then to retreat to our rendezvous point where we were extracted to safety. What a journey! What a team!

What a disappointing adventure... but it was an adventure. When I arrived at the area, there were several muggles in the area, but they looked more dangerous than the typical. This was going to take some creativity to get to. I just might go back tomorrow for another endeavor. But I won't be coming back alone.

Had a wonderful time in the area again today. There is so much to see and take in. TFTC.

I was in the area a couple years ago for a business trip that was also fortuitously timed with my daughter's wedding. Between work and festivities I was also able to attend a couple events and managed to grab the oldest along with a number of other really super caches and met some terrific cachers. But my ride to the island caches on Lake Lanier fell through so I was not able to get some of my target caches. It was still a great trip. Then a few weeks ago a few of my friends came out here for a caching extravaganza. While I would have like to have joined them, I knew that I had a trip of my own on the books. My original plan called for a number of caches on the lake islands and then ending at Marooned for a finale. But the weather reports looked ominous. So when I met up with my water chauffeur, I had him go right to this island. The front hit right when I stepped onto the island. It hit with a vengeance. I was able to get to both of the caches on this island, but then it was time to head straight back to the dock. It was worth the cost, although in hind site, I should have asked for a "one island" discount. At any rate, I got what I came for plus one other 5T for the trip. While I don't know when I will be back to the area, I know that I certainly will. TN LN SL B59. TFTC. TFT Island Adventure. This one gets a favorite.

I've been close to this one a couple of times in the past but I have never been able to both locations until this afternoon. I arrive early this afternoon for a business trip that wasn't going to start until the evening so I was off and walking. It was great walking around the city grabbing caches when I could and taking in the sights that never get old to me. TFTC. TFT virutal.

It is just really too bad when a business trip is planned in a place like Las Vegas and I have an opportunity to come early to do a little caching before the meeting. When I found out I was heading to the south west, I made arrangements to do just that. Come down early and hit the Route 66 power trail. I have wanted to do this trail for quite some time. Last year I was down in the area and managed to get the E. T. Highway cleaned up. Of course, I will need to plan a return trip to that trail at some point since they have added quite a few more caches since I got the 1500 that were there last year. For this trip, a good friend, Vulcan64, was able to get some time off and join me for a caching adventure. So we flew down on Tuesday from Sioux Falls and then we worked our way down to Barstow, grabbing a couple of caches along the way. We tried to focus our attention on virtual caches and earth caches for the first night, but there were some terrific targets of opportunity that we could not pass up. In the morning, we took a little walk to grab a nearby cache since breakfast was not ready to be served. Once we got a quick breakfast, we took off for the trail. Once again, there were a few nice targets for us to grab before we made our way down to cache 001. From there we hit the trail with gusto. We did get a couple of other nice caches along the way as well, but our goal was to get the Route 66 trail done in a day. We managed to get it done. What a great trail! We had a lot of fun and we managed to stay safe. Only a few cuts and bumps along the way. By the time we the moon was starting to rise, a beautiful full moon, by the way, we were still about a hundred short of completing the trail. The light of the fading sun was precious, but fleeting. We went as fast as we could, but we ended up finishing in the dark. Good thing we brought flash lights along with us. We signed the logs as VB for Vulcan64 and Beta59. Thanks for all of the great caches, on the trail as well as before, after and in between.
