Logs for canpic

11-Mar-16
Happened to pick a time when there was no one else in the park and then happened to walk directly to the cache.
Thanks pwatt.

Walked along the road and spotted another group in the bush in the general area, so waited for them to finish. In retrospect we should have taken more note of Gatherer Hade's cave comments. Thought there could have been more goodies in the box, so just left 'lost' without removing anything.

Found on a quite warm afternoon. Left a soccer ball key ring, took a monkey. Tried to replace the protection in a beeter state than we found it. Thanks Nanny & Bo.

Found lots of rocks not not the treasure.

Hit the fence others refer to and decided 5m was as close as we could get with limited time.

No smell, and no cache that I could find. From previous log by blossom*, I was left wondering if there had been another flood to take this cache away again?

Found easily by approaching from above, but branching off the track at the same level as the cache would have been better. The well stocked box is sure built like a truck - very impressive! Left a big dice, took a lanyard. Thanks Master Distillers.

No trouble reaching GZ and correct altitude, but no sign of the cache despite seeing triangles everwhere in rocks and trees. Must borrow YurtJnr's eyes for the next attept at this one. The view was great from where I thought the cache should be.

26-Feb-11
Followed the track on nearmap.com (and OpenStreetMap) that let directly there. Its nice to find some creative hiding. Took a soccer ball, left a tiger. Note that the pen with the log book was not working very well. TFTC and the history lesson.

TNSL Left a Singapore coin - I hope that is close enough.

24-Feb-11
As I arrived at the top a muggle was settling down in a chair to enjoy the view and a book. It was not easy picking a good way down. If doing it again I would suggest just find a way the looks safe and heads towards GZ. You sure can't miss the tree! When looking for the hiding spot I saw what I hope was a lizzard disappearing into a cave, thankfully not where the cache was!
Took a dice, left a ball.
Thanks Yurt for for picking a great location.

Found the cache after an easier than expected walk through the trackless but quite open bush. As smitchnstu noted the log book is full. The lunchbox (with a cracked corner) was quite visible, and I left it as I found it.
Look a tiger, left a pencil sharpener. TFTC.

I had been thinking K9-Capers must be feeling very alone, but put off visiting it until the heat wave passed. When I open the log book I was then amazed to discover that lasramblas had been thinking the same thing, but got there the day before me.
The track down was much better defined than I was expecting (it must be used by lots of muggles) so I had no trouble following it. But if anyone has doubts the track on openstreetmap (downloaded to a GPS) is very accurate.
The greatest hazard was the slippery green rocks that you need to go over to cross the stream. I didn't encounter any wildlife (snakes or leeches etc).
To avoid slipping on rocks I headed directly up the northern back of the stream after crossing it and tried to circle around to GZ, but found that I had gone too far and there was no obvious way down. So back-tracked a bit and headed more directly for the Bird's Nest Fern and without any hunting spotted the signs of covering material in a cave without any searching. My GPS was telling me I was about 10M north of GZ. Given the enclosed valley that is probably as good as can be expected.
Took a pencil sharpener, left a small boat.
Note: only one of the two pens in the very well stocked box was working.
Thanks GO Teak K - I have lived in the area for years but would not have discovered this lovely spot without your cache - Thank You!

It looked like it was time for someone else to take on the adventure!
With my recent bush bashing experience (GCYZEK) I decided to try via the route that lizzyn hinted at. Google earth showed me that I track I had noticed that brached off right at the start of the walking track to Kalkari (starting a little before the pay booth on Ku-ring-gai Chase Road) appeared to head in the right direction.
I found that it was much more clearly defined that I expected and although there was some bush bashing at times there was also some quite open and easy going areas that where probably used during the F3 construction. There was also what looked like the remains of an older 'road' that made the approach easier than I was hoping. There were also some very steep slopes (mounds left from the F3 construction?).
I found the guardian had fallen down and appeared to not be in as good a condition as in pjmpjm's photo.
Having plenty of time I decided to make a round trip of it an try exiting via the tunnel under the F3. It was not easy to find a way down, and I had to do some exploring to find the tunnel. I see that the art work has been updated since pjmpjm's visit. There was a table and the eastern end of the tunnel and a couple of chairs a little further in. I wonder how long they will last? I finally followed the fire trail back to civilisation and headed off down Dudley St for the long loop back to my starting point.
Took a speed boat. Left a whistle.
Only wildlife spotted was two goannas (no leeches).

It was good to find a cache not hidden in the usual way, and with lots of capacity.
Took a whistle, left a ball (and felt that I should have brought something bigger).

When I saw that no one had visited this cache in 6 months I decided it was a 'must do' for the new year. The previous comments offer really good advice and I would only be saying much the same things again. I was much easier going on the fire trail once I found it. I managed to pick a time when things were dry - so no leeches, but I did see a fox! We observed each other in the distance then headed in opposite directions.

The cache is as pjmpjm describes it. On the way back I found that the red mulching machine was still in place, but I would suggest that it is better to start heading directly back to the starting point when the fire trail starts to become more overgrown. I found the 'jungle' at the back of the houses the hardest going of the whole walk.

Took a ball, left a cute fridge magnet.
Thanks to groeschel for a great adventure.

Found things in quite good condition given Altaire's experience. Contents were dry but it looked like mold growing below the box. The firetrail was very wet and muddy from rain the previous day, but we did not hear any frogs. Took skull, left "winner".

A couple of the platic tabs holding the lid have broken, it is now only secured on two sides.
Took ball, left skull.

Nice view of the valley. Thanks. Took "Winner", left "I'm lost". No sign of any nasties.

20-Sep-09
There was quite a bit of smoke around from the buring off fires in the gorge over the last couple of days. Still it is a great spot and worth another visit. Not hard to find..

A great pair of caches, although the drop around WP2 is not for the faint hearted (or small geokids).

An easy find. The container appeared rather exposed but we left it as we found it. The lable on the outside reads "eocaching.com" - looks like it as seen better days. The view down the vally would have been great except for smoke from the burning off going on over this week end. Must come back and expore more of the area at another time.

A great cache to round off the series. Well done hydroflare!
If only I had checked for the latest logs we would have avoided a lot of bush bashing as described by The Wandering Wilkos and Team Lego Men. I guess what once would have been a direct track from the top down had been covered by branches to let it return to a natual state.

An easy find and good intro for a second member of the team. I noticed that there was no silica gel in the plasic bag with the log book unlike the other Cygnets.

Went here after finding Cygnet-1 as it was close. A more inteesting, but still short walk. Came home to work on the clues for number 4.

A very pleasant short walk. Looks like I need to find the other Cygnets to make sense of the clue here...
