Logs for haasdyk

24-Apr-19
A nice hide, and not obvious unless you've seen this type before. The main challenge is: which level?? Thanks for the hide so near a great beach!

Here at 7:15 AM the day before we have to leave, and taking the coastal trail from Maroubra to Coogee. A beautiful morning for a hike, and thanks for this cache and all the others you've placed in the area for the rest of us! We will have to find out who this Ivor really is!

Nothing obvious here and with the number of muggles, we didn't spend much time here at all.

After a short search found a pretty old and somewhat moldy log in an open container. Only one signature on the log, so we assumed this was the one and signed and kept moving. Thanks for the hide.

I thought I had logged a DNF on this one a month ago, but in the end had failed to do so. So this morning griz4b and I made another attempt. This time we searched in the original area, but ended up in a spot which I had not dared to go the first time. griz4b made the grab, which turned out to be eerily like one I had found of oldmorty's before... Thanks for the hide, and having me finish my Australian searches on a happy note!

Armed with a bit more info, decided to take a last look for this one before heading home to Canada. oldmorty, you are a wily one! With griz4b along to let me know if I was hot or cold, it still took more than I thought to pick up this one. Now it all makes sense, but a very, very clever one!! I will be more experienced if one like this occurs back home. This one deserves a favourite for sure.

griz4b did some of the "legwork" if that describes time spent on the computer before we headed out. Found the waypoint (nice job!!) and ended up with cache in hand. Thanks for the hunt!

This was a hide that griz4b wanted me to find because he had found it a few years back! Getting there was not really a problem but retrieving the cache was very much so! I needed a couple of nudges and then found some evidence. This one was eerily similar to one 4chunhunter and I found a few years back on the hills outside of Vernon BC in Canada. That one had not been found for about 4 years and it was particularly satisfying to find that one as was this one!! Grrreat hide and challenge! Worth a favourite for sure!

This one was on my bucket list due to its huge size, the biggest I've seen for many years, rivalling one we've got in Sky Valley in southern California. Thanks for the hide, but disappointed that no TBs here. I didn't have one with me to deposit, so I guess I'm just as guilty... In any case worth a favourite. I also tried this one with dead reckoning with Google Earth a couple of weeks ago, and missed it by about 50m, not close enough to see it.

Wow, this was a very interesting location for a hide; should have realized it from the description. But it was griz4b that actually found the location. We both signed the log and decided to retreat to more familiar surroundings. Thanks for the placement and the fun and excitement. Took a TB to pass along closer to my home in a week or two.

This one was not as straightforward as we were led to believe with the difficulty and the hint. However, after finding this sneaky little guy, the hint made more sense, but maybe only because I'm European as well by birth and a bit more used to the syntax of that area of the world. A nice hide in the end, and we moved on to another in the series.

Another Blaumilch cache along the route. Thanks for the hide.

Heading south of Sydney picking up some of the caches we didn't get a chance to do while staying in Woonona a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for the hide.

I believe we over thought this one as well. After searching the area for the usual suspects, we came across the hide in a few minutes. I don't know if this is all in the series, but it's the last one for us on this trip, which may indeed be my last to the beautiful land of Oz! Thanks for your efforts to put these hides in place!

Well, this was an interesting hike!! We were thinking 4 km one way, but it turned out somewhat longer which we discovered when we read the brochure. But we did make it in time for low tide; the photo was taken at 3:05, about 20 minutes after low tide. But what crowds, this place is certainly well known! The pic is of the figure eight pool; the water was cool but my feet are in... Thanks for the idea and the challenge! Worth a favourite.

I had walked in here about a few weeks ago without a GPS but using Google earth and found today I was less that 5m away the first time. This time with griz4b we found it in good shape. Signed the log and moved on to 5 Star Hotel.

This was certainly a very interesting hide! It was griz4b that noted a slight anomaly and then went for it. It was retrieved before long and the log signed. Thanks for the effort in putting this hide in place! A favourite!

Back to the beginning of the trail after out 12 km hike back and forth to the Figure Eight. A great hike on a beautiful sunny day. Thanks for the adventure.

An interesting and historic area! Over a hundred years old, and most of it no longer in use. Thanks for the hide.

A great idea for a cache! They were helpful and it was fun to fill a page for the log. Also picked up a TB to pass along WAY up north in the next few weeks. Thanks for having us stop here today to pick up a couple of hides.

Had to avoid a muggle mowing a large swath with a small mower. We managed to locate the cache drawing too much attention. Quite a maze in this area; wonder what all that's about. Thanks very much for having us stop for a rest.

On a beautiful Good Friday afternoon, the missus and I spent time at the Sydney Botanical Gardens and on the "tour" came across this interesting historical artifact. Thanks for having us stop here and enjoy the ambience. Worth a favourite!

I'm not sure how you could hide a small in this area without me finding it quite easily. You mentioned safety and that's what I practised. I did retrieve an empty soda can, but that wasn't it.

Took the opportunity this morning to pick up the earth caches here at the Opera House. A beautiful sunny day to be at Circular Quay and enjoy the scenery as well as the Royal Caribbean liner in port. Crowded!! However, had an opportunity to escape some of the muggles to get the questions answered. Thanks for the earthcache.

Another earthcache in the Opera House vicinity. Thanks for giving the impetus to visit this marvellous structure. Answers are in the "mail".

A great place to spend some time except for the thousands of liner passengers in the area. However, I managed to collar one of those passengers to take my photo with the plaque for Christina Read (1902-1983). She wrote "Seven Poor Men of Sydney". Will have to track down this book and see what it's about.

Found with my phone after my Magellan gave up the ghost. Still had to use some dead reckoning, but in the end found the hide, and signed the log. Note that the log was wet and torn in several pieces. Thanks for the hide and the challenge.

13-Apr-19
My Magellan has problems so I had to pick up this one from the map and the hint. We were up on the hill watching one parasailer up for about a half hour working the thermals and the updrafts. Quite a show, and thanks for the hide.

What a great spot to stop! And a feat of engineering, even the old road. From the looks of things they certainly had their hands full in keeping the vehicles running over this stretch. Thanks for bringing us here and giving us some exercise. Answers are in the mail.

Thanks very much for the history of this area! Mine disasters were so common the 19th century; there was one in 1903 in the Crowsnest Pass in southern Alberta, also at a coal mine, but it was because of a mountain that slid into the valley. Another multi cache to add to my list.

Not quite at GZ, but from the hint it was clear as to the terrain. A bit of hunting brought it to light. Thanks for the challenge and getting my hands into situations that as a foreigner I'm not too keen on doing with all these poisonous critters around.

Very well done, a great hide! Worth a favourite.

Spent two different half hour sessions searching for this elusive hide, and no luck today.

A very nice hide, and also a great legacy for John! Thanks for bringing us here to this little gem of a park.

Like quite a number that came before, spent an inordinate amount of time (close to 45 minutes) scouring the area, but must be missing the point. Don't know if there will be a next time since we're only in the area a couple more days before heading home overseas.

As per the last three DNFs, there's no sign of any such thing. Time to take a look,

On the road to Goulburn and picked up this hide on the way. It was the place where my grand daughter's earliest Australian ancestors settled in the early 1840s, and then later found their way to Bathurst and eventually to the Sydney area. Thanks for the history lesson and the challenge.

We found this one in good shape. Picked this one to find as it marks the furthest from our home in Calgary before we head north again. An interesting name, and maybe just a bit strange as we found an old kangaroo skeleton among other things right near GZ. Took just a bit more care around the area and so signed the log and moved on up the M31. Thanks for the hide.

On the way through Goulburn and then to the Wollongong area and picking up just some very easy ones on the way. Don't want to spend too much time looking; it'll be dark before we get there. Thanks Code1 for the hide. Picked up a TB to pass along when I get back home.

Didn't have time to stop for more than one in the series, so picked a nice quick one. Now on to Goulburn and up the M31. Thanks for bringing us this way and having us stop.

If I had had a good camera along today I could have taken some very Australian rural views! Thanks for having me stop, after I had to return to town since I had forgotten a writing instrument! Thanks for the fine time in this part of the world!

The missus and I had been in this area before looking for one of griz4b's puzzles. That one turned out to be no longer there. This one was a bit tough; went on both sides before my GPS settled on a more specific area and the find was made. Thanks for the hide and for bringing us here once again.

I noticed this cache had not been found the by the last cacher, but thought I'd give it a go anyway. I also discovered it was not in all the usual places, but figured I knew the type of cache it must have been. A 5 minute search through LONG grass resulted in spying a suspicious looking object about a meter from GZ. After cleaning it off from all the detritus it had collected, I confirmed that, yes, indeed it was the hide. I signed the log, and replaced it what is almost certainly the original spot. It should last some more time, unless it gets lost again... Thanks for the hunt and the hide! Strange thing is, the sheep didn't bat an eye throughout the whole episode.

Went back today after I logged it as a find in March. Thanks, Apsley168, for repairing this hide in the meantime and so today I actually signed the log. This is our last note before we leave the area, sadly! Had a great time and met some wonderful fellow cachers while here. So long!

This was a great time to meet and greet the local cachers, and to put names to the signed logs that we found over the past month. Thanks Becon and Alwyn for setting up this event, and for bringing all the materials for a future Canadian cache! We hope to meet some of you at an event near us in Calgary some day soon.

Had solved this a couple of days ago, and figured I'd better pick up the final before I left the area for good. Good thing I had my gloves, with all the spider webs in the area, and you never know what kind of creature you're dealing with in Australia. Thanks for the challenge and the hide.

On the way to this cache I had a run in with the strongest spider web I've experienced; almost bounced off it! No contact with the actual spider, and later I confirmed that it was only an orb spider, quite harmless, even though it doesn't look it. Then again, as Canadians we've warned that every spider on this continent should be considered poisonous until proven otherwise. Thanks for the hide and the challenge.

What a great little scenic route; real rural Australia at its best. With the dew this morning it was unbelievable with all the spider webs throughout the fields and copses of trees. Thanks for bringing us out here this morning!

Another great cache along a scenic route in the area. Thanks for the hide, and for bringing us here to enjoy a foggy morning in the country.

Solved but couldn't find the final! What am I missing here, besides not taking things apart which I shouldn't be???
