Logs for pressgang

The first find for our new international friends in Geocaching - Grandalf (UK), and Scyther & Angel (US). We came at this one from the wrong road and found ourselves peering over the edge of a cliff to begin with. In the absence of a path down (and a decent map!) we climbed back into the car and searched for another approach. This found, many hidey-holes were probed before we did the obvious and looked under our feet!

The cache had water inside and smells pretty rank - I think the chief culprit may be the whiffy bar of soap in there. Logbook ok in its plastic bag. Rain started coming down when we pulled the container out, so we headed for shelter to write our entry using the rather nice gold pen provided.

Took nothing (on account of the pong), left Emirates freshener towelette (you may need it after handling the contents) and an Ozzie 5 cent coin.

What a great way to spend time in such a beautiful place. Let's hope the newbies take up 'caching back at home.

Thanks stubby!

Bah! Our first abortive hunt. This is definitely not a nice place to poke around in shorts and sandals: we'd read the previous posts but were nearby and thought we'd give it a go anyway. We gave the area quite a thorough going-over, at least as far as we were brave enough to tread, but to no avail. Maybe a machete would come in handy...?

Second time lucky today. Not exactly what I'd call a great vista - I guess there were fewer buildings around when Vernon came! We spent a little while figuring out the coordinates for the actual hiding place (feeling a little mathematically challenged!), then a good deal longer scrabbling around trying to find the cache itself. The clue didn't exactly narrow things down. Like previous cachers, we also found the tub of hair gel during our search. Careful how you open that one!

The cache was fresh as a daisy and full of goodies. We took nothing and left a plaster for any scratches you might gain in looking for it.

This was our most challenging cache to date, and we enjoyed being stretched (?scratched) a little. We spent 10 mins or so poking around without any luck, then decided to let the GPS get an average. A couple of minutes later it pointed us right to the spot! Either its accuracy is quite stunning, or it was pure good fortune...

Nice item of vintage Tupperware by the way.

Top collection of goodies inside. We left a dollar, took nothing. I wonder if the bus pass would still work? We managed to keep the contents, and ourselves, dry during a sudden downpour by crouching under a nearby ledge. Then the Geocaching notice blew away and I ended up climbing down a fair way to get it back!

Enjoyed the view too. Thanks fellas.

We liked this one a lot. Clever hiding place! Cool Tried to make Nemo feel more at home by adding some shells. We've been sailing around here before and the view is just incredible - especially if you catch it at sunset, as we did. It's like all of why Sydney is such a great place, distilled into one vista. Thanks guys!

Yaay! A successful lunch half-hour. Had to run pretty fast to get there and back from the CBD, so now pretty sweaty as a result. (It is hot and sunny out there!) A superb vista made it well worth the effort.

Quite a few people around but a quick swipe got it out while their backs were turned. If you're having trouble with extraction, try lifting.

Took a fridge magnet, left a fat blue marker pen.

Rainy again, but we headed out for the Fiesta Latin festival down at the harbour anyway.

Enjoyed a little dancing in the shelter of the freeway, then headed off to find the cache.

This one had us scratching our heads for a while. We even took advantage of a nearby ladder, wondering if The Rats could have been that devious...

A redoubled effort and we had it. Very cunning! Added our name to the list. Nothing to take, but left a small coin.

Great view! Thanks Rats.

(We'd recommend a post-find repast at Blackbird cafe in Cockle Bay Wharf. Their red dahl is levitatingly good.)

Our first find! A few minutes of scrabbling around while pretending to watch the players, then a flash of inspiration and we went straight to it. It's a great hiding place. In our excitement to get out and play we'd forgotten to take anything to swap, so I dug a UK postage stamp out of my wallet and we left that. We took nothing, although there were lots of tempting choccy eggs. One go and we're hooked! Big Grin

Ugh! It rained most of Sunday which made this a very soggy hunt. When we saw the location we thought we could be in for a long slog, especially as it was dark. But luck was on our side and within a couple of minutes we'd stepped right on it! A very neat little cache. We removed to a safe distance to open, chuckling to ourselves about how many people must pass right by it every day without a clue.

Took Mo the marsupial mole, left a tea light.

This was our second ever find, with a concomitant increase in pleasure. Now looking for a location for our first hide...
