Logs for rumpelstilz

23-Feb-13
Got some new ideas. Good thing I go back to a winter and have time to spend at the computer.
Thank you for organizing this.

Last cache in NZ. Will I come back? Who knows. TFTC

22-Feb-13
A bit risky so close to a trap. TFTC

Only after reading the hint, I dared getting off the path. TFTC

What do cachers do in their lunch break? Go for the next cache of course.
With alsifs tool it couldn't resist. TFTC

The same muggle was here but so intensely reading the information, he didn't pay any attention to me. TFTC

When I posted the qualifying note, there were 3 earth caches missing. I think, I logged 4 of yours since. But here a list of the last 3:
GC18045 Tekapo, The Turquoise Treasure (South Canterbury)
GC23P1R Glaciers at Aoraki/ Mt Cook
GC2VEK5 Mt Iron Roche moutonnee

After calculating at stage 1 I figured how far that was. Having lost my GPS and forgotten to load the appropriate map into the hiking app, I was down to the map within geosphere which doesn't give many details. Looking at the leaflet didn't occur to me for some reason. The muggles had confirmed that you could also get to the top from Islington Bay. I'm sort a glad I don't qualify for number 3.
Is that possible, I'm STF?
Thanks for making me aware of this island.

Had to read all the information till the muggles disappeared. There is some scrap paper on top of the log book because it is full. TFTC

Coming from Islington Bay with only an iPhone, I wondered how get there. Walking along the wooden path I figured that it could work out.
Great view and time for a short break.

Went to Rangitoto for the learner’s license. Climbing to the top was also part of my itinerary. Coz I walked the rim, there wasn’t enough time for the cave. Pity, coz I don’t know if I ever make it back to NZ, let alone Rangitoto.
With no more GPS (lost it) there was no way of recording the path. That I could still measure the diameter, I only figured to late. I was in such a hurry, I didn't read the questions carefully.
I log this as a note, coz I can only answer the first question and post the pictures.

21-Feb-13
I still haven't gotten used to the kiwi way of "hiding". Found after reading the hint. TFTC

Didn't make it at the beginning of my trip, so it had to be at the end.
Found after the usual iPhone confusion.
Just as I thought how nice it was to not have any muggles around, two turned up. But otherwise this is a quiet part of the island.

Fiddled around with the iPhone for to long. Should have followed my instinct straight away.
Signed on the last space. I know, it's not round the corner anymore.
TFTC and for teaching me some trees. Greetings from Switzerland.

Quick stop on the way to Auckland. TFTC

Wanted to leave the motorway shortly before the bridge and suddenly I was on it. Took the first exit for a break and some map studying, and caching of course.
Had an idea but with iPhone accuracy I was still on the wrong side. Wondered around and liked what I saw. At first I thought I had to take it apart. TFTC

Went the right way straight away but a bit to far. It took a full circle and reading the hint. TFTC

What to do when on the wrong side of the bridge with some time to spare?
iPhone was a bit jumpy. So I walked along the path while the distance was decreasing. As soon as the distance increased I stopped and looked around. And there it was, waiting for me.
Out: TB

20-Feb-13
I was looking to low at first. Then I read the description again. Ah, it's the rain not the river that could sweep it in. TFTC

Found WP 1 before the cave tour. The rest had to wait till after. Couldn't find it for quite some time so I went for a walk.
With no GPS, hence no track recording, I got a bit confused. The iPhone told me, I was getting away from the car, when I thought I was approaching it. Ended up crossing the river and walking back on the road.
Had another search for the cache and found pretty quickly. Didn't I look here before to?
Here I was aware of the cave before I saw the cache. But thanks anyway for letting me combine two hobbies.

Spotted it yesterday but didn't have the TB with me. Today it was a quick thing, 1 TB out + 1 TB in. I told my host about geocaching and she gave me dome swops that fit the theme here.

19-Feb-13
Completed some tasks. Time for a cache. Sat down at the right corner. Logbook nearly full. TFTC

Had decided to drive SH22. If I'd known about all the hills I would have thought about it twice. This was one target to find the way.
Quick find. TFTC

A wet dog got all excited about my presence. Soon it's master followed and apologized. Good thing I'm not scared of dogs. And I didn't get wet. Smile
Knew where to look straight away.

Walked up Ocean View Road to get a bit of cell phone reception. After the call I decided to carry on. I thought you're not meant to walk on the dunes.
This was one of the moments when I wonder, why I'm doing this. I cursed you many times for such a hide. And the hint doesn't really give it away neither. I had given up and was just looking for the best way back when I spotted it.

Stopped at the cafe first. When the WiFi didn't work on my iPhone he gave me his iPad. I needed it to make a new query and he knew all about geocaching.
Had to read some logs to find it.

18-Feb-13
Soon I had an idea and searched through my lists on the phone. I ended up with gibberish. Ok the other way round, nope. Then I tried a second step and the first line made sense. I was glad to have my tools. Later on I thought, on paper I would have done it in one step.
Without GPS (see GC3XA50 why) I keyed the coords in GC buddy. Eventually I figured out how it worked with geosphere. But they both pointed more or less to the same spot. And the hint did make some sense here. But I just couldn't find it.
I wondered around a bit, then two people turned up and I got to climb a little bit.

I wanted to go climbing when I travelled south but it rained then. So I stopped here on the way north almost at the end of my holiday. I'm traveling alone, so I sat here surrounded by these amazing rocks without a climbing partner. Sure for caching it's good not to have any muggles around.
At first I didn't dare sticking my hand in but hint told me that I had to.
This cache will serve me as a reference to find this place again if I manage to come back. I think I'll tell my boss that from now on I'll have 6 months off every year.

If I'd known that was next to Bryce's it would have made finding it easier. So this was the first task this morning, even before climbing.
The calves all came looking at me when I entered their field. But when I wanted to stroke the they run off. Soon I had jumped all the hurdles and made some calculation.
Now, how do I put that into the iPhone? See log GC3XA50 why I don't have a GPS anymore. I knew it should work with geosphere but couldn't find it. Put everything in GC buddy (yes I calculated right) and clicked navigate. Why can I walk 3 steps and the distance doesn't change? Bloody phone!
I ended up between to places where the hint could fit. Opted for the right one first.

Minus 1 GPS today Surprised
I stopped in Mokau for coffee. Didn't wanna leave the GPS in the car so I took it with me. After that I went to the loo. That's where I last saw it. I drove off to the petrol station. There I wanted to switch it on and couldn't find it. I drove back like a mad woman but it was gone.
Earlier on I had a car coming straight at me. I had to break to give it enough time to overtake the other car. That was probably my luck used up for today.
Now I'm down to the accuracy of the iPhone. Forgive me for reading the hint straight away.

Here the hint confused me more than it helped, at least part of it.

Could have driven much closer. The iPhone pointed to another corner but there was nowhere to put anything.

16-Feb-13
Went up to the Tuharangi Lodge and had a look around if I could see (or hear) some climbers. I felt, I could go all the way to the top. But for that it was to late.
Then went on the loop track and down Holly Hut track. Going down my foot started to hurt again and I was glad I didn't have to go any further.
By now the mountain was covered in clouds. So I took the picture in the other direction.

For once I got the priorities mixed up. I promise, it won't happen again.
Because the GPS wouldn't help much getting I switched it off. Then I was more asking about climbing. Does anybody know, where there are people climbing? Only half way up I thought about switching the GPS on.
On the way down I went passed it again. I went to where the name suggests. Dumped everything and went back up. Found it straight away.

15-Feb-13
Can't stop everywhere, Or I'll never get anywhere. So I picked this one.
I've done it again, wondered about it and not investigated it. But eventually the hint dawned on me.
TFTC

Did the tour last night and thought I had all the right numbers. Even though the coords for the gallery were in the middle of a lawn. I went back to were I'd seen that name written. With that the order of the waypoints also makes more sense.
Today I drove to the calculated GZ before leaving town. I ended up in the middle of a concrete square with no place to hide anything. No time to recalculate.

Clever hide but it couldn't fool me. TFTC

This was a good place to navigate to that could be spotted from far. And I like climbing things anyway. But no luck.
I needed to comfort myself with an ice cream. Coming back to my car I realized, I didn't have my keys. Shock, horror, what now? Luckily the ladies where still at the iSite at 16:15. They had my key and I was saved.

Waterfall? I expected some great natural beauty. Nice place anyway.
My GPS send me to the other side of the track. There was another specimen of the same native but it was empty. Because it's daylight I didn't bring a torch. So the iPhone app had to help.
Because logs wrote snout the wrong side, I went to the other side. And there it was.
While I was there, sitting there at the pick nick table, minding my own business, writing my log, a bird came and sh... on me.

14-Feb-13
The tower stuck out. At first I thought that was the windmill. So I decided to stop there. Even though the GPS didn't really point at it, I knew where to look. TFTC

After settling down at the hostel, took a little detour on the way to dinner. TFTC

Another stop shortly before the end. TFTC

This is the closest traditional to the hostel. The other caches are either long or have weird questions or calculations. So this was the one while waiting for someone to call me back. TFTC

Got a bit puzzled by some questions. Eventually I ended up with some coords where the hint fitted. Couldn't find the cache though.

12-Feb-13
For once something big, so even I can find it (I'm not doing to well today). TFTC

Looked for an easy spot. It was 10 m off, but the cache was there. TFTC

Didn't lock the bike and got a bit nervous when I lost sight of it. So I read the hint. Just learned that one. TFTC

After finding the right way in, I still needed the hint. TFTC

After looking at the hiking app and reading the logs, I figured I was on the wrong side. I was on the way up and didn't want to loose the hight I had gained so far. Wriggled through the gorse and found it easily. TFTC

To get up here on the bike I had to push it with the lowest front gear not working. From now on it'll be easy, I hope. TFTC

11-Feb-13
After looking for some seals I came up here.
Now that the last scratches on my legs are nearly gone, I got myself a new one. Could have done without.
TFTC

As it just started to rain, this is gonna be the last one for a while.

At the next cache I didn't have my pen anymore. So I assume it's lying around here. It's only half the length if a normal pen but supposed to write in any position.
