The newly constructed Lane Avenue bridge in Columbus, OH.
Lane Ave. Bridge over the Olentangy River
Description: Replacement of a three-lane concrete arch bridge, opened in 1919, with a six-lane cable-stayed suspension bridge, and reconstruction and widening of the Lane Avenue and Olentangy River Road intersection.
Status: The bridge was opened to traffic, five months ahead of schedule, on November 17, 2003. A festive ribbon cutting ceremony, held prior to the opening, attracted several hundred spectators. Major work on the bridge was completed with the installation of the north and south tower brackets on April 22 and May 10, 2004. Laying of the final pavement through the intersection, construction of the bike path adjacent to the east end of the bridge, and landscaping will be finished this summer.
