another stop on our "learn to use a gps" walk.
came from the railway direction because the walk led us that way but i wouldn't recomend it. it's a bit bush bashy and if you were to slip down the slope you might meet a train at the bottom!
good hide; had no trouble with sat lock.
no swaps as i left the goodies at the bottom of the hill. thanks

found while showing a friend how to use a gps for bushwalking.
what better practice than to find an actual target.
was her first cache and my first for a while.
thanks. it is a beautiful spot.

nice spot but the caravaners all had generators that spoiled our sleep and wrecked our reception on the amateur bands.

i have just visited to check that all was ok and while reading the logs noticed a few people mentioned that you can't find it using a yellow Etrex.
the cache was placed using a yellow Etrex and can be found with one.
Tip: don't project, you will only trip up.
cheers,
vitesse

nice theme, took a bit of looking in the dark but fortunately we had parked closer to GZ than the monument.
thanks Waterlogged for the nice big cache.
took : pen (i assumed it wasn't the cache pen as there was a better on in log book bag)
left : solar stick and earplugs
also left Wickwar Wanderer and Penguin Pete TB to continue their journey.

went to GZ and a few meters away found a camo floppy disk container, empty and sitting on top of the ground cover plants.
we placed it back where we think it should be, near ground level, so that it is hidden by the plants.
didn't have any suitable stuff or a book to re-stock it though.
thus began our day of christmas caching, it was down hill from here unfortunately.

this one is brilliant.
when we first started geocaching, this one was offline so we never gave it any further thought. turns out it is only 260 meters from where we stay in adelaide.
during a bout of insomnia i headed off after midnight, GPS and LED torch in hand (gloves in pocket).
after a bit of poking about i had it! punch some stuff into the GPS and off to the next bit. loved this bit too.
gloves are required; i saw a huge redback and a huntsman nearby.
i'm begining to love night time caching
took : a tiny rubber snake
left : a tiny tea cup (found this in spiderman up north
thanks guys

the contents were indeed damp. thanks abowie for bringing this to our attention. went there today and dried everything off. the colored pencils were very wet, so we took them home to dry. if they don't survive we will replace them with something just as nice.

the woodpecker is still safe. found this quite easily amounst the fabulous trees. a whole forest of these would be really spooky.
thanks Freddo.
took : a tortoise
left : a pair of earplugs (my other swap wouldn't fit; this one is quite small)

there is a right way and a wrong way to approach this one.
thanks Klems Mob.
took : paper clips

had a pretty good look but we couldn't find it.
the wind direction and strength was a bit daunting as it was trying to blow us over the cliff. some new looking cracks were a bit scary too.
oh well, will be back, hope the anchor will be too.

nice bit of walking here. found both without any trouble.
the lid of the cache had a couple of cracks in it and was quite wet. we didn't have a suitable container with us so the best we could do was to place a large flat stone on top of the container to keep the water off.
this shouldn't make it any harder to find as the coordinates were spot on.
thanks Liz and Bruce.
took : little knife
left : dinosaur and earplugs
puff, puff, puff.
nice spot. thanks Liz and Bruce.

thanks Freddo and kids.
took : purple whale

26-Aug-05
got close to it but some fishermen were camped right near it. soon as we got close they made an untimely return from the beach.
oh well, next time
found this one at 11:30 on a pleasant winters day
we guessed where it was then went looking else where because the GPS said so. found it easily once we trusted our judgement.
thanks Liz and Bruce.
took : scourer (which was usefull later in the trip)
left : surfer and ear plugs
second one of the day where the GPS was a bit vague.
found it soon enough though.
nice peacefull spot with great views.
thanks Alice.

spent quite a while here before looking for the cache as it is such a magic spot.
we found the cache and it was very wet. we aired it out for as long as we could before making our swaps and while catching our breath.
thanks for bringing us here Liz and Bruce.
took : snake and clip
left : smiley face, egyptian figure and ear plugs
we were secure in the knowledge that we weren't trespassing, but some of the golfers weren't happy at us being there. after all we weren't wearing silly pants!
we thanked them for their advice, ate lunch and waited till they passed.
it is luck we are both tall and not ten years older!
to save energy the swaps were done in situ.
thanks Team Wibble.
took : bear keyring
left : spooky spider keyring, spooky rubber creature and spooky multi colored ear plugs
came prepared with my matriculation table of the elements.
this came in handy. pity my greek is so poor though.
anyway after not too much fuss we found the new cache box and it was still nice and dry after all the rain the day before. nice little spot too.
thanks Bunya and B.
took : lizard
left : buggs bunny and ear plugs
got here a bit early for lunch so we had a snack instead.

19-Aug-05
passed through on a cold and windy morning.
had to dodge a few cars but not too much around at 09:00
did our swaps and went and had a look round the town.
spent money of course.
thanks GPS
took : rubber snake
left : rubber ball and ear plugs
we went there with high hopes of finding this one.
we tried three methods to locate the cache.
1) using the clues and the GPS.....failed. a couple of times we even had a good repeatable GPS fix.
2) using logic "where would i put it"....failed
3) using brute force. combing the area as if we were looking for a murder weapon.....also failed.
we spent about 2.5 hours before we had to move on.
this area is in a constant state of flux. falling trees and rocks and moving earth. i wonder if the cache has moved too?
still enjoyed the area. better luck next time maybe.
