while cleaning up the remains of an old box elder tree found thousands of box elder bugs scurrying around. put the bugs in a jar for safe keeping until i could snap a few pictures.
this proved to be harder than i thought as trying to keep three bugs in one place was almost impossible. so i placed them in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes. this slowed them down enough so a photo could be taken.
this was shot inside my house (so the wind wouldn't blow them away) in bend, oregon. the bugs are box elder bugs. latin name is leptocoris trivittatus of the insect order hemiptera (true bugs) and the family rhopadidae (scentless plant bugs). TFVFASA. T4TH! RED NECK WEENIE!!!!!

the coquille river lighthouse on the southern oregon coast near bandon.
it is constructed of brick with stuccoed walls, has a 47 foot tower, is a fourth order light that beaconed for 28 seconds and then eclipsed for 2 seconds.
it was abandoned in 1939 and replaced by an automatic light on the south jetty. it was the last constructed of the eight remaining lighthouses on the oregon coast and is on the national register of historic places.
