Description

Cockle Creek southermost cache in Australia..sofar

Near the carpark at Cockle Creek. Plastic container, purple lid. lots of goodies. Want to give good hint as I'm concerned it may be too well hidden. Technically, the cache is "not in the national park" but its close and it would be an idea to be discreet when searching just in case the marsh region is regarded as environmentally sensitive - although bottle dumps and rubbish nearby suggests otherwise. Certainly in future, this cache may have to be moved if the environmental work extends beyond the boardwalk to include the marsh area.

Logs

It's May-ntenance Month and the Geocaching Australia admins are reviewing caches with a string of DNF's. Unfortunately this is one of them.

We're archiving this cache as it appears to be missing. If it reappears or is replaced by the cache owner it can be resurrected by logging an "unarchived" against it.

see previous logs. does not seem to be there anymore

Had a very cursory look whilst in the area. Seems very unlikely that this cache is still here unless it's well hidden above ground level.
Given that it's now over two years since it was found and it's in a flood prone area, it's probably time for the owner to take some action. Either check on it or archive it.

12-Feb-12
Had a look for this one with whitewebbs, a lot of water has been through this area.

11-Feb-12
Did not find any sign of this cache. Did a thorough search with Tassie Trekkers while in the area caching. Looks like a lot of water has been through here!

15-Jun-11
Not possible to easily access this cache at the moment as the area at GZ is a lake with water everywhere.

12-Oct-10
Five sets of eyes meant a very thorough search was conducted, given the location the co-ords took us to we didn't need much encouragement to walk away with out the find.

did find this quite some time ago and thought I had logged it...must have forgotten.Cache had just been replaced and in good cond.

The cache container has been changed and no longer has a purple lid.

Container is a screw top fruit jar with a GREEN LID. Contents have been cleaned, dried and a new log book included.

Yeah as weroamin said, this was our second attempt to score this cache. However the cache needs urgent attention (as the logs from 6 months ago state) everything is waterlogged although the lid appears to be tightly secured! I wrote on a seperate piece of paper and included it in the bag with the very wet log book. Will email the owner re cache condition. TFTC.

After being camped nearby for a week, this was the second effort by gerrynewgirl and I looking for this cache. It was like scrounging in an old rubbish tip, with leeches and mozzies, but gng came up with the cache whilst I floundered about nearby. Sorry we didn't have a new log book, but the cache needs some attention. TFTC TN LN

WoW this took some finding about 20 minutes or so just couldn't get through all the leaches .....lol (must of had 20 on me).....shorts maybe not the right clothing for this one.....lol

Anyway grab this bad boy after grabing the cache up the road

We had to dodge and duck down in the bush a few times as the were heaps of muggles heading up the walking track GR8 WEATHER....
And we didn't come all this way not to get this cache....lol

All is well at GZ SL TNLN

Have been camping in the area with relatives from QLD - an excellent hide thanks. Have read all the 'damp' logs so we made sure it was left upright - suspect if it's tilted that water could leak in through lid. Left a bouncy ball as it seems that metal item inside were rusting.

Found while on a camping trip down south with some muggle mates. A very interesting spot for a cache, wandered around a bit uncovering left over bottles, pots etc. Thanks

A big Aussie G'day to all you Northern cachers Smile
I can say that because I was the most Southern cacher in Australia today Very Happy
It is amazing what 16 degrees of separation can make.

Back home in Brisbane it would be hot and humid and I would be cursing the mosquitoes biting me. Let's not forget the spiders too. Rotten spiders building webs between trees all the way to the cache.

But down here today it was cold and wet and I was cursing the mosquitoes that were biting me. Somethings never change I suppose Razz
No spiders though.

So with my warm clothes and raincoat on I headed into the swamp to find the cache.
It took a few minutes of wandering around to locate the bottle dump.
From there it was a matter of wandering the four points of the compass out to a few metres to locate the cache lurking in the dark Very Happy
TFTC

It's all nice and dry again now. New zippy baggies as well.

Oh dear, we should have read the other logs earlier - we had been camped in the area (kayaking with dolphins even!!) and could have dried the cache and logbook out, but left it until we were leaving to come home to find the cache. Still, we managed to add our names to the damp book. Took us a while to locate, even witht he hint, but then we turned tos ee the purple staring at us!! TN L frog. Thanks

It took a while, but we found it. It's still wet inside.

Thanks grewar

Found at 16:15. Logbook very wet. TNLNSL. Thanks

4:25 pm This is no longer the southernmost cache - and this cache no longer smells very good! It had quite a bit a water inside, and although I waited in the sun with the log book and wiped the cache out with dog towels it still isn't in very good shape. But finding it kept me and Lottie busy while my husband logged the non-dog friendly cache near by.

Found this on our great Tasmanian Cache Hunt. Sorry for the lack of detail but all caches found were great.

Thanx

Had a long look in this area for about twenty minutes without success. I see that others have had easy finds and I'm not sure what the problem was, but neither of us could locate the cache.

It was one of those rare times today the sun was out so I read out the hint while Mr red tag went in search of GZ (he had the thicker boots on!) The cache was mighty wet inside but not submerged. TNLNSL TFTC grewar.

The cache was easy to find but is very wet. Log book starting to get a bit mouldy and all pages were damp. We emptied the water out of the bottom and tried to dry out as best we could.

We plan to return to walk to the southern cape one day.....thanks for the cache

I love this area and am always looking for an excuse to come here. The cache certainly needed a lot of cleaning up. A wet, cold day but Gspblu and I are enjoying it. Thanks for the cache grewar. TNLN

Drove down here on a very wet and raining day. The cache was not too difficult to find but was very wet inside. I think it may get submerged where it is. Rebulus and I took it back to our car and tried to dry contents as best we could. Plastic bagged the contents and replaced in the same spot but a bit higher up off the ground. Tnln Thanks grewar

Decided to head for this one while rain cleared in the burbs.Siriusly looong drive. After searching for 10min. or so...had sirius reservations as to whether I was going to find it..more sirius forensic search required...and voila...very relieved...too far to come back!!Well hidden indeed.Never been this far south either...so thanks heaps for getting me here.Lovely coastline...now I want to come back with boat and camp awhile.Awesome place.Terrain rating should be 1.5...as not wheelchair access.TNLNSL TFTExC Cheers grewar.

FTF to me. Had an enjoyable time driving down to the currently southern most cache (except for the bakery at Huonville that prefers to serve locals in preference to visitors. Listen, whats that instrument being played?)
Found without GPSr after about 15 minutes of treading around the swamp very carefully. TNLNSL, glad to see grewar is adhering to Tas cache placement standards! PM sent.
Oh, and watch out for the leeches!
Thanks for the trip.
