Description

A webcam cache using the Ballarat Cityview Webcam on the Town Hall

Our 1st GCA hide, and the 1st webcam Cache in Ballarat.

The camera rotates around the sites listed below, so you will not have to wait here for any more than 30 mins for the camera to come back to this spot. There is parking nearby.

The co-ordinates will take you to a statue of Queen Victoria , if you look up and across the street you will see the sphere that the camera is housed in.

The camera is viewable at www.ballarat.vic.gov.au/cityview

It stays on each site for approx 1 minute before moving on to the next one.

The order of movement is below, and the ones followed by an asterisk are sites that will give you a clear place to to be seen. The best spots are at the waypoint given, or at the front of "Her Majesty's" around the corner in Lydiard St.

This list will be handy for whoever is sitting in front of the computer to take your picture, so they can call you when the camera is a couple of moves away.

If you want, you can hold up your GPS to prove it is you, or put a sign on the ground with the GCA logo or your Username.

Please attach your picture to the log of your visit.

We will also accept pics from any of the asterisked sites. If you are short of time and have missed your photo opportunity, one of these spots will be OK, but harder to get a clearer image.
If you watch the webcam before you attempt this, you will know where you will have to stand.

Disclamers:
We do not own or control this webcam.
We do not get any warning when this camera is down for maintenance and/or repair.
If the webcam is not working, for any reason, a photo taken of you at the statue with your GPS is acceptable.

Don't attempt at night. There is a floodlight that points upwards and the bright light flares the webcam's view of Queen Victoria Square at night.

The camera was working when this cache was submitted

Logs

It looks like the webcam is no more so we will be archiving this cache to de-clutter the database.

The owner can re-enable this cache by linking the page to a working webcam then posting an 'unarchived' log.

The webcam hasn't been up for a least 2 years.
Sadly it might be time to say goodbye to this one

Snapped at 1725 before heading back to Melbourne. I've been checking on this one on my random trips to Ballarat over the last couple of years but each time the site's had issues, so it was with some relief that I noted the CO's additions to the logging options for this visit.

At this time of day there was only one angle I could take from the front where the statue wasn't completely back-lit, so this is it. Since I tend to cache solo and my Go-Go-Gadget Arms up and went, I find it hard to take a photo with my phone, frame the subject and be in it as well, so hopefully having my GPSr in shot will suffice (if the plinth had been shorter she would have been holding the unit!).

In the words of the immortal Goons: "Have a picture of Queen Victoria".

Thanks for the cache - my first logged webcam ever!

We were parked nearby on the way to the shops and checked out the statue. The web cam link did not work so I took a photo like all the others. TFTC,
Roostaman.

Dropped by and took my photo at Queen Victoria's statue. Not sure if the Webcam is actually working or not, so just followed the lead of others and took my own.

Hope all is good.

Thanks for the Webcam...

Tried the web link but got the message:
"Server Error
404 - File or directory not found.
The resource you are looking for might have been removed"
Will have to log a picture at one of the points of interest listed on our next visit.

The main building where the WebCam is is still wrapped up for the workmen.
A lovely day riding around Ballarat caching.
I was rather surprised with the number of bike lanes around the town and the courtesy that the majority of drivers gave me.

Found by The Empire + H @ 12:20pm
Parked close-by and walked to the statue, checked the webcam on my iPhone and it's still down. The council were doing some work nearby so it may be on the way back? Not sure, so I got a pic to prove I was there. Thanks.

I found the cache with caughtatwork and big sister J today.
Jess took the picture while daddy and I stood with Queen Victoria.
Thank you.

Found by caughtatwork.
With the webcam still off-line, we stood in front of Her Majesty and had J take a quick snap of us.
As per advice from the cache owner, this should suffice for a find.
Thanks 2Dudez for this cache today. We've been longingly looking this one each time we came to Ballarat and this looks like our final chance to snaffle it.

I had found this cache after the Ballarat event a few weeks ago, but had forgotten to log it until tonight!
Thanks 2Dudez for this caching experience.

Thanks McAdies for noting the webcam being down.
I'll leave the cache active for another month or so and if the council haven't got it up and running by then, I'll archive the cache.
Until then, if anyone wants to grab their smilie, just have your GPS in the photo like McAdies did.

We have been watching this one for about a year now and the webcam is still dead.
So we were passing the area and grabbed a photo with the Queen as our proof of visit.
Thanks for the cache 2Dudez

I spotted this one on Sunday, but it was too late to head into town. And until today I have not been home until after dark. Not that getting home after dark is all that hard at this time of year. I think the sun rises about 10 and sets about 4. I wanted to take the geoferret with me, but thought the FTF would only wait for so long, so today instead of lunch I had cache. I don’t stand out too well. I should really have been wearing bright orange safety gear to make me stand out. I’m even waving! Happily I could see the camera pointing at me, because there were a few people looking at me whilst I stood in the middle of Sturt Street. Thanks 2Dudez. 816609148.jpg
