Description

Cache has been placed for some fun and exploration and to also encourage other cachers to another nearby cache GCJ7AP.

Above coords will take you to WPT1 where info can be found to take you to the actual cache. Here you should find a bison tube with the coords inside.

The cache will be found at S41 08.###  E146 08.###

If you are vertically challenged(like myself) you may find it difficult but the views will be worth it. There are some large vertical drops beside wpt1...so be careful.

WPT1 ...is best accessed from western side....and if it's wet...the rocks may be slippery...so please be careful...especially for the younger brigade.

Access can be gained according to tides...but as always..take care...preferable with outgoing tide.

Cache is a black 200ml sistema with logbook and pencil only.

Enjoy!

Reattempted this one with DEZ055 after noticing it had been repleaced. Headed out at low tide to make the find. Thanks for the replacement. Was enjoyable to scramble over goat island again. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Tonight after coming back from winnaleah I noticed the tide was out so I thought I’d grab this one before heading home. After gaining the final coordinates I headed for ground zero where a quick find was made.
Signed the log then headed back to the car hiding a moveable on the way back. TFTC Clan Cerberus

Replaced both wpt1 and the cache. Enjoy.

Needs checking.

15-Jan-20
While on goat island doing some other caches mr DEZ055 made the climb to the top to find waypoint 1 but on searching every green creeper bush the tag could not be located so unfortunately it was a dnf for us. The view was amazing from the top but we were disappointed have not completed this one tonight. Neutral

14-Apr-19
After scaling to the summit to find absolutely nothing. You could say disappointment was an understatement! The views were pretty good though. So I don't see myself returning to the peak anytime soon. So looks like this cache is a bust for me. If the hint is anything to go by for the six digits. I think WP1 needs to be checked as there is no sign of the tag.

21-Jan-18
We hadn't been out to Goat Island until the events today so we were glad of the opportunity to find and log the other caches there as well. mr sharnie's tribe made the climb to WP1 and then made the find and signed the logbook. This island is deceptive, it's bigger than it appears from the beach and when you're in amongst it, the rock hopping makes for interesting progress. Thanks for this cache, it encouraged us to make the effort Smile

It was an absolute pleasure to finally meet you today sirius Tas. As you know we have found a lot of your caches, with Dooleys Trail being a highlight for us. We'd never been to Goat Island before and really enjoyed ourselves out there today. Thank you for escorting us to the wonderful GZ of your multi and around the rest of the island. A very enjoyable morning indeed.

For us, today was all about the two (originally 5/5) events on the coast, that was the reason for our trip up. While we were up there we planned to find a few other caches to top up our meagre contribution to the States of the Nation Game. We managed a handful on the coast and one or two more on the Highlands Lakes Road, finding all but one (I need to check my cords on that one).
My apologies for the copy and paste log but if I have any hope of finishing and claiming some scavenges, it’s my only hope.
We found all containers in good condition and really enjoyed our time at the events this morning and our various finds during the rest of the day.
Thanks to the various cache owners of our finds today.

Hello Sirius Tas thanks for the cache.

As you know I scaled the rocky point the hard way and was terrified as I crawled over the point to find the tag with the numbers on it.

I was happy to sit there and tell the others who were smarter and didn't get to the top what they needed to know.

Thank you for showing us an easier way down.

I eventually found the cache in the hands of other caches at the Goat Island Event.

Found WP1 last winter on a caching trip along the Old Coast Rd however when I got near to GZ I realised that there was no way I could get there. Today was the day an assault could be made. An event was to be held near GZ which made it much easier and we had the CO in our midst as well. Hopefully I can get some points for the States of the Nation competition for Tasmania. TFTC Sirius

What an awesome place this is. I've been visiting Altaire this past week and have been meaning to explore Goat Island all week as its almost in front of their house. We spent a fun hour here roaming about. The info was found and then it was off to an amazing GZ. Wow, muggles seem to be finding this and signing their names. I returned the hide and added one extra piece of camo which may prevent the muggles from discovering it. Great cache.

26-Dec-17
We headed out for a day of caching with Tassie Trekkers and targeted Ulverstone and surrounds and this was one we found after logging a DNF in April 2012 due to the height of WP1. Today Mr W returned to find another cache here and thought he should have another attempt at locating WP1 and then the cache. This time he was successful and the log was signed.

We are currently doing a virtual trophy for verbosity, hence the long logs! We are enjoying participating in the States of the Nation games which are currently running from 16 December 2017 until 21 January 2018.

States of the Nation is a real and virtual geocaching scavenger hunt where your home state will compete against other Australian states to find and hide geocaches. Over the 5 week course of the game there will be hundreds of scavenges that you can track down, find and convert into points for your state. Some scavenges will be easy. Some scavenges will be tough. Some scavenges may be impossible. Don't despair. You are not competing just for yourself; you are competing as a state.

There will be a number of scavenges released on a weekly basis but each scavenge will remain until the end of the game. This means even if you decide to join the game part way through, the early scavenges are still available for you to claim. Scavenges will require you to find a geocache, hide a geocache, attend an event or do something else completely different. The game focuses on all aspects of geocaching and so all cache types, sizes, terrain and difficulty will be up for scavenging. TrigPoints, Events, History, Virtual, Webcam, Podcache and Locationless geocaches are all scavengable, so you're not just looking for a box under a bush. Each week there will be a mix of physical, non-physical and locationless geocaches so even if you are not in a geocache rich area, use the locationless component of scavenger series to get out, find something to log and gain points for your state. If you watch the scavenges as they are released you might also spot the 'not so hidden' patterns and plan for future weeks of the series.

Hiding geocaches will also be a large part of the scavenger series, but please remember this is a game of geocaching and geocaches that you hide should be long lasting, be of good quality and you should be proud of what you hide. Please avoid hiding a geocache just for the day so your state can find it before you archive it. Geocaches that exist for a short period of time may result in any claims on that geocache being disqualified. Play creatively, but also play fairly. More geocachers hiding more geocaches makes for more geocaching fun.

Checked and replaced wpt1 coords......cheers.

Well done Altaire...great find...haven't checked for awhile...glad coords still on top of crag.
2yrs since last found...great effort.
Hey...another cache on Seagull...recently replaced...nice walk...great view over town.
Cheers ST.

The island is more or less the centre piece of the view from our deck so it was about time we had a look for the caches that abide here. Quite a warm Xmas day arvo when we strolled down with the heat re-radiating quite well from the black rocks. Of which there were quite a few as the tide was well out. Ascended the central "peak" without much ado. Nice view of the island and surrounds from up here. Headed down then and on to GZ where the cache was soon located. Looks like quite a number of muggles have located this one as well judging by the entries in the log book. Cache is in good condition. Nice cache site - thanks Sirius.

We now know why this is called Goat Island - definitely better suited to goats than humans! Retrieved after searching for a near-by cache. Loved the location. TFTC

27-Jan-13
Have just increased the terrain rating...seems it's harder for some....lol....but you do get used to it Very Happy

27-Jan-13
Well done Etrexer...and glad to see that wpt1 is still there. Those pesky flies seem to inhabit those areas from time to time...cheers mate.

26-Jan-13
wpt 1 gave me the creeps, used to run around here when i was a kid and thought nothing of it now the legs go to jelly. The other people on the island probably got a good laugh as i was decending on my guts.wpt 2 had thousands of bitey flies that has taken up residence that attacked me when reaching for the cache.Great little island to explore with many different features around every corner. Thanks sirius

14-Jan-13
Hi sirius
It is really impressive atop Goat Island.
Loved it even more whilst on top and the big seagulls started dive bombing me.
The view are tremendous.
The off to find the cache-what an adventure that turned out to be.
Even had to get "serious" about it!
Finally located and signed the log at 1134hrs.
Tide was well out when I started the assault on this cache but got wet legs and feet (up to the knees) on the way back! STOP LAUGHING!!
Thanks for a great adventure.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

After doing the other cache on the island we were looking forward to finding another. It was a pleasant walk to the island but we couldn't access WP1 which was up high surrounded by sheer drops on all sides. Terrain rating more like a 4 especially for those who don't like sheer drops off GZ and no clear access path to the top. Thanks for the great views but alas no cache.

09-Oct-11
Lovely day for caching today. Sometimes reaching up above my head is just out of reach. Just as well there was a stick about to help me.

11-Sep-11
We found this one whilst we were out on the island acting the goat! It was a glorious day and we enjoyed our visit and climbs. TN L frog bracelet and had our photo taken with Wobbling Wombats. Thanks fr bringing us here.

06-Jun-11
Great to come back and finish this one off. Thanks Sirius for replacing the cache. This cache is one of our favourites and we highly recommend it. Great views and a challenge all rolled into one Smile

02-May-11
Have replaced cache...all is well...Cheers.

14-Apr-11
I'll endeavour to replace cache asap...good to see wpt1 still ok...Cheers.

07-Apr-11
Having found the other cache on the island we were eager to tick this one off too but although we found WPT1 we came unstuck at GZ. Pretty sure we were in the right spot. Thanks anyway enjoyed the challenge

11-Jan-11
Hi

Went up to the top of the hill to look for the tag, but with no success after searching for 15 minutes (it's not a very "big" place). Really couldn't find a rock that was movable to get the tag from under.

Continued on to find the other cache on the island.

Maybe a check is in order - it hasn't been found for 40 weeks!

06-Apr-10
Finally found this one after braving WP1 and the flies. With all the climbing this cache is very well named!

06-Apr-10
What a cache. Getting to WP1 was a real challenge for someone who doesn't like heights. Such was the anxiety at the top, we had to check with Sirius that we had recorded the numbers corretly (we had). Our first attempt at WP2 was unsuccessful but, having been reassured by Sirius that our data was correct, we returned, this time with a torch. The cache was soon found and logging completed. This cache was an excellent challenge. Thanks for the experience.

17-Jan-10
Was just talking to Mum's neighbour who was visiting (not caching) with his kids last week, and he'd ran into tattsus (I'm assuming) clambering around in the hunt for WP1. Tasmania's a small place!

17-Jan-10
So glad wpt1 was there still.....and glad you enjoyed the experience...Cheers.

14-Jan-10
We both loved the adventure with this cache, it had everything. Absolutely lovely views, thrills, danger, heights, scrambling up the rocks (on a 'goat' like track) and then carefully making your way back down, then up again, back down, lets just say I felt like I was a kid again (as this was one of the things I loved to do as a kid).
Hubby was also in his element
Many thanks for bringing us out here sirius

14-Jan-10
Now I have to climb to the top of the hill (it felt like a mountain the other day lol) again, but I must say I am looking forward to it and hubby will be too. Thanks Sirius

13-Jan-10
Wpt1 was indeed missing. Have replaced...Cheers.

10-Jan-10
We picked a hot day for this one. After climbing up to the top we searched any and all greenery and didn't find the coords for the cache.
Is it possible that the coords are not there now? That or we are blind lol.

27-Jul-09
scrambled up to the top, wasn't exactly my favorite spot to be, found wpt1, then off to sucessfully find cache.

23-Jul-09
Absolutely fantastic Smile one of my first proper caches! I was exploring around the island a couple of days ago and accidentally stumbled across quite a large cache (still not sure if it is mentioned on here) my dad explained the art behind this fun passtime. I ventured back today to drop a few goodies in the one I had found, and to search for the others. Unfortunately his GPS was quite out of whack (telling me to head out to sea a further 200m) but managed to find WP1 going by the clues. Again, sort of unhelpful without a reliable GPS Sad almost gave up and then had a gut feeling which led me directly to the cache! Most impressed Smile I realize its a 'logbook only' cache but with pockets full of trinkets (anticipating a few swaps) I had to leave a few small items haha. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring goat island! The second cave (further north) was pretty special too. I bought my own GPS on the way home, much more accurate. I'm addicted! Can't wait to make a couple of my own!!
TFTC TNLS Woo!

30-May-09
Both wpt1 and cache all well. Please bring something to write with...Cheers.

Great place for as tramp around in the evening, and what a beautiful evening it was, the weather had calmed down, a wonderful sunset was just starting to appear, and it was an interesting place to look around - thanks heaps for the cache

24-Nov-08
The last time I visited this island, I was doing a school assignment for Environmental Science. Thankfully, this experience was infinitely more exciting than studying the growth patterns of lichens...

The climb up the rock was great, awesome views from the top! Unfortunately the person who had been up there before us had left his lunch behind in a rather disgusting manner, which made it a little less pleasant. Anyway, after a bit of hunting, WP1 was found. Wrote down coords. Climbed back down to the beach and started searching for WP2. Something seemed fishy, in more than one sense, as WP2 seemed to be pointing into the ocean. Hmm. Didn't seem likely that Sirius would stick a cache out there. So I did the sensible thing and made Indy climb all the way back up the rock to check the coords, while I stayed on the beach. He came back down to inform me that, yep, one of the numbers was wrong. So, with correct coords and new hope, we clambered over the rocks once more in search of WP2. Reeeally wanted to find this one after the disappointment of the other Goat Island cache, which seemed to be missing.

Found something which seemed way too obvious to not be WP2. Was slightly dubious of the way down at first, seemed rather precarious, but thankfully I don't suffer the same phobia as some others, and the climb turned out to be less difficult than expected. Blindly hunted around at GZ until Indy came with a torch and found the cache. Hooray! Our first multi-cache find!

A great day out and I think we've thoroughly explored that island now (this time the cool bits, not the lichen).

02-Nov-08
As March Brown said this was an absolutely fantastic multi.
GZ sure isn't for the vertically challenged but that's one of the reasons I try not to cache alone.
Thanks sirius I love a cache that's a bit of a challenge

02-Nov-08
Absolutely fantastic multi.
Enjoyed it from start to finish. Red tag and I had glorious weather and both points were found easily.
Thanks for another good one sirius

2008-10-23 SSDS Note
Came over to Goat Island to get away from the Green Corps.
Started climbing and got close when all of a sudden the Green Corps are bounding through the bush and started climbing all over the hill like they are mountain goats.
Mungrels - ruining any chance of finding this or the other cache here. Not happy as I have now had my time wasted by these people.

13-Oct-08
I didn't know what to expect. My sister organised a "Treasure Hunt" around this cache and I had no idea what I was doing. It was a beautiful day, I found WP1 after scrambling around the rock for an hour. It wasn't until I gave up and sat down for a rest. I nearly sat on it.
However WP2 eluded me - However now I have read the clue I know where it is and I will return.
Thanks Guy's I'm off to buy my own GPS and really get into this. It was a great day out with the family.
I even managed to catch dinner on the way home. Fresh squid is unbeatable.

11-Oct-08
Replaced wpt1 in slightly different format...but in the same place. Cache is now a 200ml sistema...pencil has been replaced...all ok.Cheers.

10-Oct-08
Found on 10/10 but logging on 13/10 - had a big weekend.
Had been working in the area for a while, and finally decided to down tools and go and find this cache during work time. Three of us walked out to the Island in our bright orange safety vests. Wasnt real keen on where the GPS was pointing to for WP1, but wasnt surprised either, it was where I thought it was going to tell me I had to go. I got most of the way up and had to take the Blundstones off and finish the climb in bare feet as the grip on the workboots was lousy. Got to the top and couldnt find anything, looked for about half an hour. I couldnt give up on the cache despite not having the coords because that would mean having to climb back up again. I noted Neribil had found the cache without coords, so I decided to climb down and explore the half of the island I hadnt previously and see if I could find a feature where the clue would be fitting. It took a little while but as soon as I discovered this feature I had a Bingo moment. Picked a path to it, poked around and came out with the cache - very satisfying. We had a clear sunny day, and really enjoyed the views, adventure, hunt, and diversion from work.
Thanks Sirius, another of your excellent caches ticked off the list.

17-Aug-08
The third attempt this week ended up with sucess, One part of wp1 was found in a rock ledge about 5 meters from the summit on the way up. No sign of the other cord. With the help of luck, the hint and other logs I eventually claimed this cache. Thanks Sirius

11-Jul-08
Back for a second attempt and had no problem with WP1 this time (thanx Sirius). The wind was a tad cold while standing at WP1 today.

Trundled over the edge and down to hide. Nice hide Sirius in awesome spot when sea is angry.

07-Jul-08
What a total adventure blast the CEyres and Brizzyb3lla had on this cache so typical of Sirius's caches (that we love anyway). The cache has rugged beauty, danger, rocks, danger, water, danger, crevices and some danger. We scrambled to the top of WP1 and spent a fair while admiring the view and the incoming tide before starting our descent. Hmmmn the descent, footholds are so much harder to find when going down and gravity seems so much more present. WP2 is a gem of a place that we really appreciated especially as the tide was starting to peek around the corner. Eeeek, why didn't we bring a torch!!! The cache was gratefully found, signed and returned. We then hurried across the island and the isthmus with the water starting to lap the higher rocks. The C.Eyres really loved the adventure and not one of them made a comment about the no swaps proving the family adage that great caches don't need swaps.
Thanks Sirius for our thrilling adventure.

29-Jun-08
Yes WPT1 had gone....now replaced and harder...but easy to see...once you get there that is. Cache all ok as well.Cheers.

28-Jun-08
Climbed all over and around WP1 but nothing. Even resorted to the clue but that didn't help at all. Is WP1 still there?

14-Jun-08
Onward and upward I went like a possessed person who couldn't stop. (oh thats right, there wasn't anywhere to stop really). Got to the top (was there a view?)Walked 2 or 3 steps and wondered what an old chook like me was doing climbing up this rock face. Couldn't move another millimetre. Have bruised bottom, thighs that feel like lead and a feeling of defeat to think I made it to the top but didn't find it. This one might be for the pappas I think!

03-Apr-08
Quick check with wpt1 and cache all ok.

28-Feb-08
Dunno what you are all woosing about yet as I think I coppied the coords dwon wrong - WP2 was somewhere back toward the car on my GPS but I had to go get the school kid so going again tomorrow(and I hate heights Smile It would be miserable on a windy day though. If you think WP 1 is a hard climb think you have missed the goat track to the top or perhaps it is actaully easir for small poeple. Anyway TFTC - the place is nice picnic spot and I am glad to be encouraged back out here BTW the cbvag haqre of the WP1 hint is gone!

09-Jan-08
too bad that I don't like heights very much, I had to send my personal mountain goat up the hill for me(with a camera). TFTC

09-Jan-08
Psychologists use a technique called "flooding" to treat people with phobias.
The idea is to expose the person to the thing to which they are phobic to an overwhelming degree.
Im not sure if it works or not.
I have a fear of heights and got flooded tonight.
Maybe it has helped me, but I was way out of my comfort zone!
Great stuff Sirius, good hide at GZ.
I'll go to bed tonight feeling the flush of success as I have joined the select few that have "Acted the Goat"

31-Dec-07
I definitely think there has to be truth to the half man half mountain goat rumour! I think this is one of the hardest caches I've done!! But then I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to climbing up scary high rocks. When I was on top I was flat on my stomach and thought hell there's no way I can move to get my daypack off to write the coordinates down but then I had my GPS in my hand so was able to punch the numbers straight in without compromising my flattened and hugging the ground position!!!!!!! I had nothing but admiration, thinking of how you got the thing in position sirius. Even my 7 y.o. nephew stopped a bit short of the top because he didn't feel safe. We had started an ascent on one side but canned that with 8 metres to go, but then found another way (it would have been the west side) and was able to get to the top. So then continued our journey and found the cache just before we thought we might give up! It's a challenge, but we had a great day, including a bit of a wade (Coco-Pop swam) on the way out. Thanks very much sirius.

23-Dec-07
A fantastic cache - thoroughly enjoyed the trek in. And up. And over. And in. And up. And over. And down.

I love goat island, and it is great to see another cache out there.

22-Dec-07
Checked both wpt1 and cache..all ok...Cheers.

26-Nov-07
Good to see some cachers behaving as the name suggests...LOL.Well done on FTF robtas. Cheers.

25-Nov-07
I think sirius hates me. making an old man act like Edmund Hilary. This one should be called the rock cache.I thought I knew this place but I have seen parts today I never knew were there. Thats a bonus, and a FTF to boot.Wp1 is typical Sirius...sneeky. The view is fabulous and if you like exploring its for you.
This cache is best approached from the west the climb is a bit easier and if you fall your body will be a lot easier to recover!
Not a cache for kids, old men (me) or the accident-prone.
Jantas has the bruises to justify that comment.
It is one that should be on your to-find list.
Thanks sirius??

24-Nov-07
Arrived at dawn which was magnificent. Quickly found why the island has that name - you need to be a bleedin goat to get around the place.
Did a quick circuit and started climbing. Got to where the GPS was telling me I was 1 meter away and still the only way to go was up. At this point discretion prevailed (ie I was s... scared) and a retreat was made.
Maybe another day.
Is there any truth to the rumour that Sirius is half man, half mountain goat?

24-Nov-07
Clambered all over this place including up to the top which is quite scary, came up empty except for a penguin in a hole.
I am sure there is iron ore which plays up with the gps which was all over the place. When you are looking for a rock among many rocks it is a bit hard. Maybe another time.
