Description
Another spot for a selfie
We are returning from the Red Centre Experience Event in Alice Springs and are currently caching around Bendigo. On a suggested place to visit from the Caravan Park we are staying in, we ventured out to see The Great Stupa. We were very impressed with the site and think it is worth a visit. For a gold coin donation you can be taken on a tour of the grounds and the building so far. You can visit weekdays 9 - 5, weekends 10.30 - 5 pm. You may need to check if open on public holidays. The stupa can be seen and photographed from the carpark if you don't wish to do a tour.
The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion is a sacred Buddhist monument currently under construction. When completed the Great Stupa will be 50 metres square at its base and nearly 50 metres high when completed. This will make it the largest stupa in the Western World. The stupa will be engineered to last 1000 years. Currently it is home to a large collection of relics and artwork.
The Jade Buddha (a model of it is inside the stupa) is currently touring the world raising awareness of Buddhism and promoting peace and will return to Bendigo permanently to be housed in the Stupa. The Buddha has been on tour since 2009 and has been viewed by over 11 million people.

Today i decided to tackle some virtual type caches around town. i usually prefer physical caches but i have had a really enjoyable time finding trig points, virtuals, and history ones today.
Good to come back here do GCA here.
Thanks for virtual cache
We only stopped long enough to take a photo as we were on a mission to find a series of Wherigo caches in Beaufort, but I did acquire the information I needed to bring a bus load over from Shepparton to have a guided tour of it.
Thanks for bringing it to our attention via this locationless Whitewebbs.
We did indeed visit the Great Stupa. Sounds like the head of a galactic empire rather than a religious aretfact but my goodness what a building. Nothing like that near where I live. This will be a Stupaendous buidling when complete.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for placing this cache here today.
