Description

A simple multi cache published during the States of the Nation summer game

The cache is not at the listed coordinates, the information required to work out it's location can be found on the information boards at the new Little Penguin viewing platform at Lillico.  Please note: there's plenty of parking space near GZ but it can only be accessed from the east bound lanes of the highway.

The cache container can be found at

S41 09.ABC  E146 18.DED

A = number of letters in the second part of the little penguin's proper name

B = number of letters in the name of the little penguin's favourite dish

C = number of letters in the surname of the wildlife illustrator listed on the first info board

D = number of little penguins in the illustration at the bottom of the second info board - 3

E = how many days old is the chick featured at the bottom right of the first info board

Volunteers hold viewings here each evening during the summer months.  Sightings are not guaranteed but on 28 December 2017 52 little penguins were spotted with the first one appearing at 8.30pm.

The cache is a camouflaged micro, you won't have to leave the pathway to find it.  Enjoy the hunt

Well, we've finally managed to log this one after taking the necessary details away to sort the co-ords out at home (we had no time to spare). Checker wouldn't give us the correct answer signal. Came back today after another caching outing to the west, reworked the questions and found we were only out by a pilchard ! Used google maps to take us to GZ, and after a short search found one cleverly concealed cache. We always enjoy creative hides, so full marks for this one Sharnie's Tribe. Clan MinotaurVery Happy

After a receiving a hint from the CO’s, we found this one today. After now realising the type of hide, I have seen this done before. Love your work Sharnie’s. TFTC Clan Cerberus

A huge day out and about caching while the 10x points offer was available. Pity this wasnt announced further in advance and them maybe people could have made an epic run for some of the many caches in other states. Disadvantages by the water again!!!

Great little mutli with a very good hiding spot.

A very well thought out Multi. It has everything going for it - bringing people to a delightful spot, the added attraction of seeing the cute penguin burrows, very informative boards, an easy multi to solve, and the cache concealed very close by in case your numbers don’t add up, which means it’s simple to retrace your footsteps.
An then the cache container itself. Muggle Hubby once again inspected your workmanship.
Took nothing but the memories and the plans to make a similar one, and left behind our names on the log, happy memories and a recommendation

This was a fun multi - interesting boards to read and not too far to walk to GZ. As I approached GZ I thought I had a far idea where it would be but I was very pleasantly surprised when I found GZ. It wasn’t where I had expected it and the cache was very well designed. It should last a long time. TFTC Sharnies Tribe

Hi Sharnies Tribe,
I was saving this cache for another dz trophy but due to this being dz pts madness week, thought I'd grab it today.
Haven't been here since all the walkways have been established...they have done an excellent job.
Didn't take long to gather the interesting info then off to gz.
Very accurate coords...ph reading less than 1m...led to a very nifty and muggle proof hide.
Many thanks for another excellent cache and location...thoroughly enjoyed...cheers ST.

Looked for this one a few days ago when I first arrived in the area but had no luck. After finding a couple of others by the CO further around the coast (and a nudge nudge moment over dinner last night) I stopped by again on my to the (Launceston) airport to try again. I re-checked my calculations just to be sure and with all good I set about searching again. All was good and the cache was soon spotted. Something familiar and a great hiding technique that I may to steal from you. ClappingClapping

This is the sort of cache that you wish all caches were like....an interesting area and topic combined with s great hide.

Thanks Sharnie's Tribe....another fav point for the all the fun.... Outstanding and Recommended

Have been meaning to grab this cache for quite a while so today we took the 'long way' to Devonport and stopped to do it.
We were quite impressed with the elaborate viewing platform that has been built here. It's a lot better than the old set up. Unfortunately it was the wrong time of the year to check out the fairy penguins, but we have seen plenty of them over the years so that wasn't really an issue.
Thanks, an interesting place to visit and the cache gave us a reason to stop and check out the developments here.

We needed a cache for a gap in Molten Solstice Horologist graph and thought we might have to use one that we had been saving for later in the Summer game. After returning very late from helping our great niece Avi, home visiting from Israel, to celebrate her birthday we noticed that this cache had been published recently. Problem averted and a nearby find available for the 31st.

After seeing our son, daughter-in-law and grand daughters off to Launceston this morning we printed the info needed for this cache and headed east.

There were no other cars in the car park so we had the viewing platform to our selves. After one false start we collected the data and calculated the final destination. Meanwhile another couple had arrived and headed down the path. We followed and our GPS indicated that they were standing in front of the hiding place. After a short chat we walked down to the edge of the water and they walked back to the viewing area. We were then able to search for the cache. The well hidden and beautifully constructed hide was soon located and the log signed. We then enjoyed the recent redevelopment of the area that has improved access and made the viewing area bigger and more comfortably able to hold the large numbers of visitors that the area gets at this time of the year.

A great place for a cache! Thanks for this multi Sharnie's Tribe.

We were out and about with Tassie Trekkers having cached all day when we received notification that a new cache had been published. We still had caches to do and still a long way west of GZ, so we thought by the time we got to the multi, the first to find would have gone. Over 1.5 hours later we were reading the information boards. The information was obtained, coords worked out and we were off to the cache. We located the cleverly constructed and hidden geocache and a blank log sheet. A joint FTF with Tassie Trekkers at 6.10 pm.

We are participating in the States of the Nation games which are currently running from 16 December 2017 until 21 January 2018 and will be able to claim this find against one of the scavenges.

States of the Nation is a real and virtual geocaching scavenger hunt where your home state will compete against other Australian states to find and hide geocaches. Over the 5 week course of the game there will be hundreds of scavenges that you can track down, find and convert into points for your state. Some scavenges will be easy. Some scavenges will be tough. Some scavenges may be impossible. Don't despair. You are not competing just for yourself; you are competing as a state.

There will be a number of scavenges released on a weekly basis but each scavenge will remain until the end of the game. This means even if you decide to join the game part way through, the early scavenges are still available for you to claim. Scavenges will require you to find a geocache, hide a geocache, attend an event or do something else completely different. The game focuses on all aspects of geocaching and so all cache types, sizes, terrain and difficulty will be up for scavenging. TrigPoints, Events, History, Virtual, Webcam, Podcache and Locationless geocaches are all scavengable, so you're not just looking for a box under a bush. Each week there will be a mix of physical, non-physical and locationless geocaches so even if you are not in a geocache rich area, use the locationless component of scavenger series to get out, find something to log and gain points for your state. If you watch the scavenges as they are released you might also spot the 'not so hidden' patterns and plan for future weeks of the series.

Hiding geocaches will also be a large part of the scavenger series, but please remember this is a game of geocaching and geocaches that you hide should be long lasting, be of good quality and you should be proud of what you hide. Please avoid hiding a geocache just for the day so your state can find it before you archive it. Geocaches that exist for a short period of time may result in any claims on that geocache being disqualified. Play creatively, but also play fairly. More geocachers hiding more geocaches makes for more geocaching fun.

Sorry about the lengthy logs. We are currently aiming for a virtual verbosity trophy. TFTM

Heading home after a full day’s caching the notification came through for this cache, stopped and gathered the required information and soon had co ordinates in hand. A quick find despite the quality of the hide. Joint [*FTF*] with whitewebbs @ 18.10 hrs.

Many thanks Sharnie’s Tribe for publishing this cache for our enjoyment and adding to our geocaching experience.

Tassie Trekkers are now a locationless geocache we have published a 'Geocacher cache' - Travelling Trekkers GA10932 - so if you spot us in your area sign our log book and receive a code word to earn yourself a Very Happy We were one of the lucky teams to receive a pathtag from Geocaching Australia for publishing a "Geocacher Cache" - thanks Geocaching Australia.
