Description

A good walk in Narawntapu National Park.

The cache is located a short way up Windfred Creek, which runs into Copper Cove, bounded by Little Badger Head and Badger Head. Windfred creek has a series of lovely rock pools and small waterfalls where water is often available to fill your waterbottle.

Copper cove itself is a very interesting place to explore, with bright orange rocks, lovely 'rock gardens', and an abundance of interesting driftwood. A walk to the North-East end of Copper Cove is well worth a look, with evidence of the Copper mining that occured here on a small scale.

The walk from the Ranger Station takes you past the track up to Archers Knob and the cache ' Archers Grassy Rest' GC1E4R4, along part of the 7Km long Bakers Beach, up and over Little Badger Head, down into the secluded Copper Cove.

Roughly allow 3 hrs return if just going to cache and back, additional 1hr for sidetrip to Archers Knob, additional 1hr if returning to Bakers Beach from Copper Cove via shoreline of Little Badger Head, and additional 30mins if walking the majority of Bakers Beach back to carpark. Additional time should be added if exploring Copper Cove.

Cache is a Black 1Lt Sistema, and at time of placing contained

Log book and pencil, anti-mosquito bracelet, pocket can openers, waterproof matches, waterproof Flyfishing booklet, 2*AA Bateries, 3*Bushwalkers whistles, Note pad.

I set off today with my 5yo mini-helper to retreive this cache, as it has been top of our hitlist for some time. It took us about 2 hours each way to walk, plus an hour searching at GZ. We turned over many rocks (upsetting a few ants), and found two particular "rounded" rocks that looked out of place, but neither concealed the cache... After having a spot of lunch we admitted defeat and headed back out again, arriving back to the car just as it began to rain. We enjoyed our walk none-the-less, and perhaps now have an excuse to go again sometime!

After camping out at Griffith's Point in the national park last night, I set off at sunrise from the Ranger Centre in pursuit of Copper Cove.
It was difficult to follow the path for the first couple of kms as it was swarming with those little pademelons.
Cute aren't they Smile
After a short detour to Archer's Knob along the way, I continued over the hills and past some magnificent coastal views untill the cove was in sight.
A quick bounce along the creek and the cache was found hiding behind its rock. No ants anywhere Smile
The round trip with detours took 4 hours.
I didn't see one wallaby on the return trip. They were no doubt hiding in the shade by now in the mid morning heat.
TFTC and exercise.

Planned an assault on this one to blow out a few cobwebs....made it into the Cove in just on 1hr. Bit of rummaging to find the well hidden cache. Creek has just a small flow...so expect it will dry up as summer progresses...so need to carry water all the way. Another top spot Ive never been to. Excellent walk with superb coastal views. Many thanks for another gem geoskid....TNLN...Cheers.

Very nice walk. The creek had quite a bit of water flowing after recent rains and had to get wet feet to get up to the next level. The first obvious rock I moved released a very angry nest of ants that raced out in all directions so watch out! Found the cache OK and realised that the 'shaz' of 'shazcol' had all the swaps back at the beach because she did not want to get wet feet. I took some photo's and walked back. Top cache but expect a decent walk. We did Archers Knob cache on the way in.

After a pleasant walk through the park I arrived at GZ. Been past this spot numerous times but never took the time to explore before. Co-ords were spot on and the clue most helpful. Time return to vehicle including lunch stops and Archers Grassy Rest on the way was 4 hours at a reasonable pace. Well worth the effort. Took flyfishing booklet and left a beetle. Thanks Geoskid
