Description

The ABC: ABC North Coast

ABC North Coast is an ABC Local Radio station based in Lismore and broadcasting to the Northern Rivers region in New South Wales. This includes the towns and cities of Grafton, Ballina, Casino and Murwillumbah. The station began as 2NR in 1936 originally based in Grafton, moving to Lismore in 1989.

ABC North Coast began broadcasting from Grafton in 1936 and later moved to new studios in Lismore in 1989.

On the evening of July 17, 1936, the then Australian Broadcasting Commission launched the Northern Rivers regional station, 2NR with an official function held at the Saraton Theatre in Grafton.

The Daily Examiner published a statement from the Postmaster-General's Department on the following day explaining that 2NR was part of a government plan to provide a broadcasting service right across the country.

"In 1929 the Postmaster-General's Department devised a plan of national broadcasting, having its object the provision of fading free broadcasting service to at least 95 per cent of the population of the Commonwealth and a reasonably good service to the remainder of the people in the remote areas."

"In the present constructional stage the group consists of seven stations, two of which are now working. The third station is 2NR, the Northern Rivers regional, located at Lawrence, approximately 20 miles from Grafton."

We didn't expect this steepish and windy road when we turned to follow the sign up to the ABC building. It was nice up the top, despite the muddy wheel tracks in the grass.

We drove from Byron to Lismore and back today, ending up with 10 finds (and a bonus 20 GC finds too). We're gradually getting more and more of the ABCs around the country....

Waking downtown from my bro's place to catch up and cache with renroc. Had to pass this so snapped the pic without pausing. Haha.

Didn't expect the ABC to be up here... thought the GPS was leading us astray. On a round trip of the Lismore, Ballina and Byron Bay areas finding some caches for the Journey or Destination game. Good to get another ABC even if it doesn't count for the game. TFTC Team MavEtJu.

In the area for Christmas with family.
Stopped here to locate the virtual. TFTC

I know this place pretty well, I drive past all the time. It also doubles as a very popular Pokestop for Pokemon Go players. I'd been out caching today and thought I should nab this virtual before anyone else does. I did have two companions though, Sero Tardus (GA12844) and Teddy's Steggy (GA12645) moveable caches were travelling with me and wanting a geocaching adventure. Let them pose in this photo before it was time to tuck them away safely for another cacher to find.
