Description

Welcome to the First Finds series

Everyone has a first find in Geocaching and this Locationless series will highlight them. Each of these caches is allowed to be logged up to 2 times. In other words one for GC and one for GCA, unless the type of cache is only on one website or the other.

For this cache all you need to do is post a log about your first History cache find which is only found on GCA. NO LOGO = NO FIND! All logs must have the GCA code, name of the cache and when you found it. Also it would be great if you write a little about your experience.

P.S. For the complete series of 'First Finds' click please click here! (You may need to scroll the page down.)

After hearing about the new rules in place as of the end of the week, I decided on archiving all my caches that don't fit in with the new rules. This is very unfortunate as I spent many hours setting these caches up for all to enjoy. However, I am thankful to all who have found any/all of these caches.

Thanks so much
WotheNeeds2

P.S. Yes, I do own a couple that line up with the rules and they are: GA14256 and GA14283. These will continue to stay active for people to find.

GA11539 Historic Site: Tacking Point Lighthouse Keepers Cottage Port Macquarie, New South Wales, Australia
Found on: 02-Jan-22

Our first history cache find was on a brekkie stop during one of our trips up and down the coast. We decided to stop here for breakfast as it had Dad's favourite cache type: a trig point, not to mention the many other trig points in Port Macquarie. It was a great place to stop, and the kids even managed to find a traditional cache just around the corner.
History caches have become a bit of a favourite for Mum and Dad as they encourage us to stop at interesting places and learn a bit about the area.

I found my first (and only so far) GCA history cache yesterday: GA15921 - "Your Next Bundaberg Person." - found 20 June 2020. It's a new armchair virtual history cache, which feels a bit like cheating but then we are living in exceptional circumstances with numerous armchair caches currently being published. I visited Bundaberg on a drive around Australia about 25 years ago, I quite liked the town. I still don't mind the occasional Bundaberg Rum "Dark and Stormy". TFTC! Very HappyCoolClan Cerberus

My first History Cache find was GA9816 "William Ievers", which I found on 10 Sep 2017.

My log stated "Today I was in Lygon street having lunch, in a restaurant across the road from this park, so I convinced the other members of my family to allow me to gather the information required to log this cache.
The path adjacent to the monument was VERY popular with skateboarders so grabbing a photo was a fun exercise, but my husband did a great job."

Thank you WotheNeeds2 for this locationless cache.

Our first History Cache find was GA11074 Historical Buildings #9 - "St Joseph's Church" . . . found on 21 December 2017.

Our log for this find was:
"Collected the data required to log this cache on a recent caching trip to this area. Another one of those quaint, solidly built little country churches. Of course its built on an elevated site as most Catholic churches are.

Thanks Grumbligrot for another Historical Buildings History cache."

Thanks WhotheNeeds2 for the cache and for the trip down Memory Lane.

Our first History cache was found on 16 July 2018 after running into Roostaman. We were not big GCA cachers but after meeting u we decided to do a few around Barcaldine.
The history cache was GA9903 - Tree of knowledge. One good thing about these type of cases is that the make you read carefully the information available.

Our first History cache was the Busselton Jetty, with some interesting historical information on the GC page: GA11244 found on 27-Dec-17 Busselton Jetty.

Stretching out to sea 1841 metres, Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden jetty in the world, and considered the longest wooden structure in the southern hemisphere.

Because the shallow waters of Geographe Bay restricted ship movement, a long jetty was required so that cut timber could be transported to ships. Construction commenced in 1853, and the first section opened in 1865. The jetty was extended numerous times until the 1960s, ultimately reaching a length of 1841 m. The last commercial vessel called at the jetty in 1971 and the jetty was closed the following year. It passed into the control of Busselton Shire and has been gradually restored and improved since. The jetty has survived Cyclone Alby in 1978, borers, weathering, fires, and the threat of demolition.
Thanks for sharing the memories of first History caches.

As people are claiming finds even though there find doesn't count as it doesn't fit within the rules, I decided on changing the cache names to help with correct logging requirements from cachers.

It is interesting to note which caches I found on each visit to different locations. This is my first history find and is in Tasmania. We love this area and have visited more than once but my log shows that the display centre was closed. We have been fortunate to have a tour through the mill. The cache is GA8510 and I logged it on 15-Feb-18 in Callington Mill Oatlands, Tasmania, Australia. TFTC WotheNeeds2 Dancing Thanks for reminding me of this cache.

I've had 4 history cache finds, the first being GA12139 Captain Cook Lookout, which is not far from home and close to two GC caches. I quite like the concept of these caches and the way in which you are able to electronically answer the questions asked.

Thanks for this diversion from the sameness of my days in self-isolation.

My first History cache was GA8125, Ernest Fisk Memorial which was found 9 April 2016. Since the advent of the History cache, I've learnt things that I had no idea about. Just shows that you don't know what you don't know. Another fun type of cache, and I've managed to find 98 to date.

Thanks again.....

Tenterfield Saddler - GA2517 - Found 9-9-12
Thought we'd better log this cache to keep the Tenterfield Saddler streak going. Wink We remember thinking at the time what a good idea these containerless type caches are... we still do. Actually think it was listed as a virtual at the time but the CO being up to speed, must have changed it over when the History cache came along.
