Description

Welcome to the First Finds series

Everyone has a first find in Geocaching and this Locationless series will highlight them. Each of these caches is allowed to be logged up to 2 times. In other words one for GC and one for GCA, unless the type of cache is only on one website or the other.

For this cache all you need to do is post a log about your first Letterbox cache find which is only found on GC. NO LOGO = NO FIND! All logs must have the GC code, name of the cache and when you found it. Also it would be great if you write a little about your experience.

P.S. For the complete series of 'First Finds' click please click here! (You may need to scroll the page down.)

After hearing about the new rules in place as of the end of the week, I decided on archiving all my caches that don't fit in with the new rules. This is very unfortunate as I spent many hours setting these caches up for all to enjoy. However, I am thankful to all who have found any/all of these caches.

Thanks so much
WotheNeeds2

P.S. Yes, I do own a couple that line up with the rules and they are: GA14256 and GA14283. These will continue to stay active for people to find.

This was part of one of my favourite series.

Sadly long archived.

Lots of fun.

Had to go a fair way back to find this one. Our first Letterbox cache was (Peacock Parade) Perched GC101WY and it was found on 27.3.2009.
Don't remember anything about it but did check and it was archived over 10 years ago.
Thanks.

First letterbox in TAssy - 7th Feb 2007. I loved doing these early on. Most were located in Tassy. This one was up near Burnie I think

There use to be a series of six Letterbox caches around Bunbury and surrounding towns then a final cache.
My first find was GC2CMRT - #2 LBH - Picton Ecoscape.

Had to time this one with nicer weather as in winter time the area can get flooded. TFTC Smile

Our first letterbox cache was on June 13, 2015 in the Lens region in the North of France "Expected delivery -between 4 and 8-" (GC4EE5Z).
A first experience that had disappointed us at the time since it was a simple box and in addition without stamp or notebook ...

Our first Letterbox Hybrid cache was GCYBC3 Kiah Koala and Friends . . . . found 10 August 2010.

Our log for this find was:
"We finally got our stamp organised and made this out first letter box cache. We had to leave and come back later as maintenance was being conducted on the facility. Once free of muggles, a quick find just as heavy rain started to fall. TFTC "

It is a pity that some letterbox caches are now being published that do not have stamps or have a generic stamp not related to the actual cache or the cache owner. The stamp is an important part of a Letterbox cache.

Thanks WhotheNeeds2 for the cache and for the trip down Memory Lane.

Thanks for getting ads to go back through our record.
We found our first letterbox cache on 19/1/2016 - GC2G781 - Pining for a postcard. We had been travelling to Bright for 20 years on the Australia Day weekend and had never been to this particular lookout. Caching gave us a reason.

As people are claiming finds even though there find doesn't count as it doesn't fit within the rules, I decided on changing the cache names to help with correct logging requirements from cachers.

Our first GC Letterbox cache was found on 5 Dec 2010 during an event in the Vic high country: GC2JV6E BUSH TELEGRAPH.

Our log...
This is the 759th find for WazzaAndWenches

Another cache found on our trip over to the Yackandandah Camp & Cache Event.

This was a joint attack between ourselves and Bogonghazy. A letterbox cache in the true sense of the word[!]

My First Letterbox was - GCX1ZZ The Enchanted Wood (Faraway Tree Series) on 1/12/07 in Vic.
It was the original style where you had to follow instructions to find the cache.
And I have found many many of these since then too.
Like many Letterbox's since then, some are very interesting and easy to remember. Wink
Thanks for the memory and the cache WotheNeeds2,
Roostaman.

For some unkown reason I decided to do my first Letterbox at night It was GC5AREW by Rapidlywild not too far from home though I had to drive and park. I soon learnt that all her caches are are worth doing. TFTC WotheNeeds2 more good memories

My first Letterbox Cache was GC3QMD7 "Suburban Hell" which I found on 25 Sep 2015.

I did not have to search very hard for the cache as there was another geocacher sitting on the top of the hill with the open ammocan at his feet.

GCA 2,829. I'm enjoying the 'first xxx' locationless caches.

Like SDL my first Letterbox Hybrid was GCXT3K Isaacs Post Office on 17 Dec 2007. My 100th find coming about 6 weeks after I started caching. This LBH was so well set up that it became a real favourite type of mine.

My log reads as follows :

"It was a special occasion today so I wanted to do a special cache - and picked this one. It is my 100th cache !! Yah !!

Great concept and idea this one.

I brought my own Post Card from a place I visited a few years ago - it is highly appropriate for this sport/hobby of ours. I showed it to Sol de lune and he couldn't help but laugh!!

Perhaps when Tealby next empties her 'Mailbox' she will post a note accordingly ??

TFTC !! Very Good. TN L Postcard (stamped in the correct manner)...

Cache Number 100 !!

Cheers...."

My first letterbox hybrid cache find was in Florida not long after I started caching in 2014 ... Chocolate Cake Sniffing by 6cakesniffers (GC526Q3). As I recall, I was a bit underwhelmed by my first letterbox find, which was no more than a traditional find with a stamp inside the box with the logbook ... I was expecting something quite different, but I now know otherwise.

Thanks for bringing back memories of that holiday.

My first Letterbox Hybrid was found Isaacs Post Office - GCXT3K and I made the find on 17 Nov 2007, about 3 weeks after my brother, fitzy_1965 and I start caching. The idea for the Letterbox was based on sending/exchanging Post Cards, which we did in some small way. As at today I've found 137 of this type.

Thanks again WOTHENEEDS2...

Our first Letterbox Cache was GC3GY12 Bush Mountains Letterbox on 5-2-16. A great letterbox cache in the Blue Mountains bush. Thankfully I knew the CO and she told me to do some research before we went to look for it.

GC5AHG5 - Souvenir Letterbox (Found 11/12/14)

I found my first letterbox quite early in my geocaching life. Way back when I could only cache locally by bike after school!
It was a memorable one too.... I went with a friend, opened it up, and there was a HUGE spider with an egg and a big web!
We were scared out of our brains, so carefully got the inner container out, signed the log, and got out of there!

I have found 143 letterbox's since!

Thanks

I don't mind Letterbox caches although I sometimes wonder what they are all about. Think

My first ever find, out of the 30 I've done to date, was in northern Tassie on 12 March 2007 with New Britain Letterbox (GCRF2J) - coincidentally the same day as I found my first Earthcache. Clapping

Thanks once again WotheNeeds2.

My first ever Letterbox cache was GC3E9RV, which is located in the suburb Curtin, ACT. I found it on 18/05/2016. As this cache has changed CO's, a name change also happened. It is currently called 'The Business Card Exchange' which is definitely not the name I found it under. When I found this cache I was very disappointed with the condition. It was just a container that said 'Letter-Box Cache (GC3E9RV) as shown in the photo with my log. (https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/e5314fe6-c9d1-4648-a2f1-5ffa21623f6e.jpg) There wasn't any SWAG, trackables or Logsheet/book. TFTLC

Another in this series completed.
My first was GC2X78E Letterbox Hybrid Barwon where I used an old stamp from princess cruises to mark the log.
Thanks for the fun. Very Happy

Our first letterbox cache was "Lake Mail Trail" GC2JE60 found on 19/4/2011. Miss Shifter was 11 when we found this one, it provided picture clues that you had to follow to locate the cache and we left the clue solving to her, so she could earn a visit to a nearby ice cream shop she loved to visit. The cache was in a timber letter box which was good to see. The more recent letterbox caches we have found have not been a letterbox unfortunately.

The Black Swan by The Mountain Goat
GCYN0Z
Found 15/5/2007

This was unfortunately vandalised twice. A lot of effort put into the design of the cache, would have cost a bit. No plastic boxes. My log in part: Drove straight to this one via a dead end & Luck Street - no luck there. Eventually found the right street & the cache. Thanks.

My first letterbox cache was "Ryhope - Bushrock Letterbox" ( https://coord.info/GC3JCBW ) found 25 July 2013. Handy location near the freeway nearish Newcastle NSW. Although sadly this cache has been archived. I believe it was just a bit too close to muggle-land and someone maybe tried to bust it open to see what goodies where locked inside.

I had come prepared with a 'family' stamp, but what I wasn't expecting to see was an actual letterbox on a typical letterbox stand-up strut/post, firmly secured into the ground, in what was otherwise the middle of a bit of bushland. I thought this was SO COOL! (And still do.) The cache also had the fairly typical post-code padlock on it to complete the experience. I've since found various other letterbox caches, varying from ordinary Sistema caches with a stamp inside (meh Laughing ) to some very awesome actual mailboxes. Thanks for this locationless cache (and indeed thanks to all the cool cache-placers out there!) Very HappyVery HappyClappingClan Cerberus

My first letterbox cache was GC6DA30: Letters to the Easter Bunny by snugglebunnies on the 13th of May, 2016.
This was a wonderfully themed cache by the COs - something that they've upheld across all their caches, so it was a very nice find indeed!
Thanks to WotheNeeds2 for the locationless!

My first letterbox cache was Postcards From the Edge, GC4YG06 found on 30/6/14 at Torquay.

My log reads “In spite of the inclement weather I needed to find this cache as part of my five different types of cache in one day for another challenge, and what a delightful part of the coast it brought me to. Hooray! My first mailbox! And what a nice little cache it is too. Two days ago I found a tiny soggy cute little book in a sad cache, I took the little book home, dried it out, and decided it would become my mailbox stamp book, then this morning I found an excellent stamp in the cache before this, so it has become my new signature stamp for mailboxes.”
Sadly it was archived later that same year.

GC1HQD2 719 Marching By on 13/11/2008 in Bundaberg at the HQ of the Bundaberg Marching Girls Hall. This was my first Letter Box Hybryd and I am up to 86 finds of this type.
This one was archived so I placed another hide nearby but just a traditional. the thing about this one was that it was so simple in that the lock combination was
the number in the cache name. TFTL. Clan MinotaurVery HappyClappingDancingClan Minotaur

I was quite excited when I found my first letterbox cache and I thought it would be a letterbox. I have only found 10 letterbox caches and this type of cache has provided me with the greatest variety of cache container. My first letterbox cache was found on 18/8/2014 A Rich Heritage GC59JX2 by Ryan00 who was a very active young geocacher in northern Tas at the time. I found it to satisfy a competition requirement but I can’t remember much about the cache itself and my log says “ no. 4 of 7 for August” . It was a new cache only published on 27/4/2014 and is still going today.
