Description

Stop, Rest and Revive - Cocklebiddy Zebedee

Stop, Rest and Revive is a series of caches along various highways in Australia. These caches aim at breaking up the long and often very uneventful journeys throughout the more remote areas of this vast land of ours. I hope that you enjoy the caches and that you take the opportunity to Stop, Rest and Revive during your travels.

WanderingAus wandered by on day 167 of our annual Climatic Refugee trip, heading West towards home, and pulled into Cocklebiddy for a comfort break. I spotted this Zebedee in a playground there and had the thought "Is this the most remote Zebedee in the world?", so I took a photo.

I couldn't claim a find of  GA2471 Lets Spot Zebedee's by McKee Clan because I've already claimed a find a few months ago.

I decided to set this virtual cache here to encourage cachers to take a break on the long drive to or from the West.

To claim a find of this cache:

  • Take a photo of the Zebedee with at least your gpsr in the photo.
  • A member of your team riding the Zebedee is a bonus but not essential.
  • Include in your log your direction of travel.

If you know of a more remote Zebedee include the location of that one, and I'll make it my mission to try to hunt that one down.

This Zebedee is still available for someone else to claim for GA2471 Lets Spot Zebedee's by McKee Clan, so I include that here as the prize for First To Find.

First To Find Award Congratulations to
Moneybox
on the First To Find.

A neglected playground today but at least the zebedee got some attention. TFTV WanderingAus

10-Dec-23
After spending a few days in Gawler it was time for to drive my mums (well my car now) from Gawler back to Perth. This was day three travelling from Border Village to Norseman on a 5 day 3,100km adventure. It was bleak and cold morning and stayed overcast much of the day. Not as many sights today as there was on day 2.
And there are hundreds of signs saying do not drive tired so geocaching helped with that.
The day turned eventful after gashing my leg at a cache, putting a tiny hole in my font tyre returning from Madura Cave then at Norseman the motel i had booked with did not have me on their list, so managed to get a room at the pub. They do say they come in threes.....
Well after getting the small hole and pumping the tyre up i headed back to Madura and pumped it up there and continued on to Cocklebiddy.
I pulled into the roadhouse and parked right next to the playground and found the cache very easy and also found a half flat tyre very easily as well.
So went to the servo and the young guy said they did not do tyre repairs there even though i could see all the gear behind him. So i got a puncture repair kit and plugged up the hole. This was after unpacking all the stuff from the boot and finding one of those 80/km/hr spare wheels. After about 2 hours of messing around it started raining as i was putting the tyre back on and then raced to the back to get everything back in the boot.
I was going to buy lunch but i just kept going and nibbled on some snacks.
Thanks for the cache WanderingAus oh and i continued onto Perth 1,200 km with the plug in the tyre and no leaks. ClappingClan Minotaur

Needed the stop to fill the 4wd up ā€“ noticed Iā€™m using more fuel as we drive in the strong winds heading west.
It looks to be that this equipment is in a need of a lick of paint ā€“ thanks for the stop.

Found It!
Rather busy here today but no one on the playground - which I'm not really surprised by given the state of it...
Still managed to snap a few pics of the Zebedee!

I ended up in Cocklebiddy this morning !! Smile
Heading WEST !! Cool

Here abouts was a cache to find.
Alas !! Me 'smrat phone' doesn't like GCA listings and refuses to display the cache notes Brick Wall
To make things worse, the GPS truncated the cache name to "WanAus 186 - SRR - Cock" Shocked
And as I hadn't checked out this cache online last night,AND there is no 3G in Cocklebiddy (at least not with Tell-Stra), I was in the dark as to where the cache was hidden Confused

I poked around the very 'retro' playground for a while, checking carefully for concealed mint tins Speak to the Hand
None found, so for luck I sat me GPS in the saddle of a the Zebedee at GZ and took a photo.
I wonder how much lead paint it took to cover that lot Question

WELL !! Wasn't that a stroke of genius Very Happy
"I am so smart, I am so smart ... SMRAT" !! Clapping

Now I know it is a Virtual, I can claim the smilie Dancing

Caiguna's 3G works well Smile

Caching teaches us many things and now we know what a Zebedee is Very Happy We had never heard of the word before and while at the playground had no internet signal so couldn't 'Google' it. We took a photo of the playground in general and since arriving in Esperance we have been able to find out which of the items was the Zebedee. We figured it was the little spring loaded horsey thing as the cache description said it could be ridden, and we were right.
Couldn't resist stopping for coffee while we grabbed this one.
Many thanks for the cache, and the education. Clapping

Clapping Grabbed today during a coffee stop on the way west. Thanks for the cache

Not sure why my GPSr did not have this loaded two weeks ago when we were heading east, but I a happy to say it turned up today and I got to get a smiley

Thanks Wandering Aus for the cache and the reason to stop

22-Dec-12
Having no idea what a Zebedee was, I dutifully photographed myself with the playground in the background on our way past. Thanks for the quick stop.

13-Jul-12
Grabbed this one on a mad dash on Friday the 13th across the Nullarbor. Heading east. Thanks.

03-Jun-12
Had to stop and see the Zebadee for myself while headine west.(home)
Had a leg streach and an icecream.
A couple of muggles were nearby and asked what I was doing.I told them
and when I drove off they were playing on the Zebadee.

68th find during a 29 day camping trip that took us across the Great Central Road to Yulara, then down to Marla to start the Ooodnadatta track to Maree. From there it was on up to Arkaroola and a journey down thorough the Flinders Ranges to Port Augusta, before the return leg across the Nullabor to Perth. All up a great trip of over 7000 KM's.

Well, Mrs Red Devil did the deed...bless her!

13-Sep-11
Stopped off and checked out the fuel prices here. One of the dearest servos on the Nullarbor. Imagine my surprise to see the wonderful playground here. TFTC

13-Sep-11
A quick stop to stretch the legs and get an ice-cream. And, of course, a couple of photos to meet the requirements of this cache. No young ones here when we arrived made things easier. TFTC WanderingAus

05-Sep-11
A quick and easy find on our way east to South Australia with Team Gypsys. We are 'on the road' for just under 3 months on this trip and this is the first time we knew that these playground watchamacallits actually had a name. Thanks to Keith for the cache

20-Jun-11
Good fun and glad no children played this playground just me. Thanks.

05-May-11
Stopped here for a leg stretch and drink, and of course to do this cache. Wandered up to GZ, having no idea what a Zebedee was, but quickly realised when getting there. Some nearby muggles enjoying their lunch at the picnic table were wondering what a cranky grown up was doing having her photo taken here! Embarassed

06-Dec-10
Oh Dear, how did that happen? Embarassed I seem to have messed up some of my waypoints.

My thanks to Moneybox for providing the CORRECT coordinates.

06-Dec-10
FTF - Well this one had me going. Mrs Moneybox had me travel 1400km to get this FTF but when I got there it was not at GZ. Never mind I did the usual thing. I started at the given coordinates and worked my way out in ever increasing circles scratching under every tree. Luckily I was on the Nulabor Plain so not too many trees. We don't give up easily so eventually found it 101km away. See geotagged photos. What's going on WanAus, are you going for a new reccord? T-Photos D-0 TFTC ThinkLaughing Heading east.....
