Description

With the proliferation of Locationless Geocaching and the seemingly insaitiable thirst for numbers by finding these places, I give you "Armchair Geocaching". Just put your GPS in front of something you consider to be interesting, take a photo, log the co-ords and claim a smiley. Only one trick - you MUST be able to read the co-ords on the GPS in the photo. Have fun.

Something of interest? How about a stitching of a do dolphin, that I did back when I was in primary school. Photo attached. TFTLC

I didn't take this photo from the comfort of my armchair, but I did locate it again from my computer chair going through my travel photos from the UK. This is the trig marker on Whitehorse Hill in south Oxfordshire where there is (surprise!) a famous - and to my mind the iconic - Uffingiton White Horse carved into the chalk of the hill nearby, as well as a hill fort (Uffingston Castle) and a glacial landscape called "The Manger". Below the white horse there is Dragon Hill where St George is supposed to have slain the dragon. And a nice little cache too http://coord.info/GC8964 Smile

We were given a weather station for last Christmas by one of our children. With one thing and another, we had not got around to setting it up. Well today everything was unpacked and setup inside to ensure that it worked and that we could set it up properly. Then the ladder was called into action to get the anemometer fixed to the TV aerial, the hygrometer/thermometer unit attached to the wall in a sheltered location and the rain gauge fitted where it was not sheltered by trees or buildings. After adjusting all the settings and doing some calibrations, we now have a fully functional mini weather station. The photo added to the Gallery shows our GPS, the equipment boxes and two of the sensors installed (anemometer on the TV aerial and the hygrometer/temperature unit under the eaves). An interesting way to spend part of the afternoon.

Snowman on Leura Mall

On my way to put out a new cache in Bullaburra (in the Blue Mountains of NSW) I came across this snowman, constructed during our recent blizzard.

A local shopkeeper donated a candle for the nose . . .

Such a rare event deserves a log . . .

The Old Taylor Distillery near Frankfort Kentucky - home of many a bourbon distillery.

29-Sep-12
Camouflaged Mountain Dragon Lizard
Warrimoo, NSW

Not seen from my armchair, but watched and photographed while geocaching in the lower Blue Mountains.

Can you see him/her?

Animal Tracks in Winmalee Bush

Went bushwalking to search for 'Lair of the Bunyip!' and found these fresh tracks in the mud!

Wallbies? Perhaps a dingo? Or maybe only a local dog . . .

31-Aug-12
Davies Lane
Katoomba, NSW

No, I wasn't trying to photograph the local $2 shop!

Davies Lane has a nice little mosaic mural, which didn't come out too well at dusk.

This is all right off Katoomba Street in Katoomba, near a great many geocaches and survey markers.

I go here often for my doctor's appointments.

29-Aug-12
Pigsty Bridge, on the Leprena track, RECHERCHE BAY (pronounced "research")
The Leprena track is the old road to Cockle Creek, and the rock base is still evident underfoot. The Leprena township was the basis for the mining of low grade coal. The now defunct Pigsty bridge used to cross the D'Entrecasteaux River.

On the far side is the heritage listed Recherche Bay (North East Peninsula) which was listed to preserve a garden planted by Felix Lahaie in May 1792. It was the practice of European crews to plant gardens in destinations they visited to provide sustenance for other maritime adventurers. However, the French were also under instructions to establish European plants for the benefit of Indigenous people – a gift from the French people to the natives of the new land.

The area can only be reached by boat, or by, um, swimming ! In a fit of craziness I stripped off and swam to the other side, so I could say I'd been there ! And if the water looks cold - it is, not just brain freeze cold, but BODY FREEZE cold ! Very Happy

Thanks for the cache, Wyoming Wombats ! Very Happy

I took this photo of a clock that belongs to a friend of mine. It is the only clock in his house and he claims he doesn't need to know the time in a more precise fashion than what is presented. I haven't included the coordinates as I don't wish him to remain nameless (and locationless), but the photo was taken from an armchair! (I hope this is acceptable)

Magdala Gully Track Sign & Map

Here's where I took a walk -- well out of my armchair!

GPSr will show the exact coords.

07-Jul-12
Track to Lawson's Lookout
Picnic Point Reserve
Springwood, NSW

Not found in my armchair, though, but on a walk to find a geocache!

There are a great many wonderful walks like this one, all across the Blue Mountains of NSW.

Solving and finding a "Zytherin" puzzle is always interesting. The coords are only approximate as you wouldnt want to give away the location ... Wink

Hi Wyoming Wombats
Sitting at home in the "Armchair" not feeling too well and thought about not being able to cache today and this cache sprung to mind.
Went outside and the smell of the next door neighbours menagory wofted through the nostrils.
Interesting that in a sub-urban area they can have "50,000" rabbits; three ducks and uncounted ducklings; chooks; three cats; a yapping dog
and an aviary full of "exotic" bird life. One would think that if they wanted a farm, they'd buy one eh!
Now back to the armchair and hope that St Kilda beat West Coast today.
TFTC and cheers;
OldSaint.

'Forgotten Signs and Businesses'
Beverly's Garden Shop
Great Western Highway
Wentworth Falls, NSW

This might have been the title of a Locationless that I was once thinking of publishing . . .

Geocachers could find the faded but still visible remains of old signs and notices . . . long out of date, but still visible.

Beverly's Shop is one of these, located right next to one of my favourite coffee shops on the Great Western Highway. She's been out of business for many, many years now, but you can still see her weather-worn sign painted on the wall of the building.

I photographed this sign today while out geocaching, tracking down two of bikerbuddy's mysterious hides in the lower Blue Mountains.

I took an extra shot my Oregon 300 to make sure that the coordinates were visible.

28-Apr-12
Lost World Lookout
Warrimoo, NSW
Blue Mountains

Definitely not found from my armchair! We walked 13.4 km to get here!

Beautiful view and one not seen by many people.

Photo taken next to the Rev. Raymer Memorial at the edge of the cliffs.

22-Apr-12
Close-up of Acacia Flat Camp Area trail near Grose River
Kolonga Labyrinth, NSW
(Blue Mountains)

The excellent view of the GPSr and its coordinates seems to have outshone the background of the trail and campsite . . .

The leaves are starting to turn around here!

This interested frame was found while Geocaching with pjmpjm in a rock overhand near lapstone at the spot where major Mitchell camped overnight during his exploration of the Blue Mountains.

Rev. R. A. Raymond Memorial
Leura Mall
Leura, NSW

I've thought for a long time about what might be a suitable subject for this relatively new Locationless cache, and have decided to use it to mark the 'epicentre' -- as it were -- of my adopted home town in the Blue Mountains.

Nearly everyone knows the famous strip of cafes and shops along both sides of Leura Mall, just south of the Great Western Highway, and the raised, grassy and well-shaded medium strip where visitors often sit and eat their lunches.

However, fairly unknown is the surprisingly large 1911 vintage memorial placed almost exactly in the centre of the quaint main shopping strip (between Railway Parade and Megalong Street), dedicated to a man who was obviously very important to this little village more than one hundred years ago.

The photos will show a few views of this well-worn sandstone monument, together with my Oregon 300.

So with this log I give thanks to the Reverend Raymond, for his services to Leura, so long ago!

WanderingAus wandered by on the way to Esperance via Wave Rock with the WanderingMrs and our three oldest grandchildren, accompanied by our son, his wife, and our two youngest grandchildren. After spending the night in the caravan park we all went to the Toy Soldier Museum, then continued on our way towards Esperance. We found this interesting history of the Rabbit Proof Fence as well as a Rabbit Cemetery in the "city" of Varley when we stopped for a late morning tea.

This area is known as the "Chicken Ranch", and owes the origin of it's name to the movie The Best Little Whore House In Texas. In this case the illegal activity which was overlooked was street drinking - you'll need to visit to get the full story.

This lovely shrub is very near these co-ords and close to a popular Darwin drinking hole! Dancing

Near these coords. This plant just popped up out of nowhere-don't know what it's called but it is pretty striking.

Just loved these spectacular looking seed pods.

Well I am not one to log a locationless with something mindless, just to get the smiley. But I did take a sneak peek at this cache and think it would make a simple find. Anyway, while out in the new Canberra Arboretum today I found something that is truly interesting on several levels. Firstly, here is a copse of trees all with little houses or blankies over them - presumably the trees are frost tender. They are Dragon Trees, endangered and native to the Canary Islands. Drought tolerant with big thick trunks even though the plants are still small. Nice views too. The new arboretum is becoming very interesting, with many different trees from all over the world. TFTC!

I was going to claim this but just realised I forgot to put the GPS in the pic Doh It is the "Wicked Campervan" lot - I've never seen that many in one spot!

10-May-11
The strand in Townsville has caches virtually from one end to the other. There are several very beautiful spots that are actually free to either place a GCA or a GC cache. he sculptures along here are also very imaginitive. I had to use a tree as background for the photo as the co ordinates would not show on the real object due to the light and the reflection. This object does actually have a spot for a nano but would have to be a GCA cache as there is a GC cache within the space distance. So an armchair cache.

I am posting the co-ords for a place that is very interesting. It is a park in which dogs can play. It is a place to see many different types of dogs. My dog Zac loves the park because he gets to meet other dogs. The park is situated in Killara, Sydney. It is 115m above sea level. Its co-ordinates are S33 45.583 E151 10.246 This is a must visit place if you have a dog!

It shouldn't get more difficult than this Rolling Eyes
I always love it when these are blooming and they do that twice a year.
Tried to make a cache of it in a park nearby once but was to limited to the season!

I saw the title and thought it might be for when you solve a multi that involves a lot of driving and walking but you use your resources to solve it from your seat! (That doesn't include phoning a friend though!)

225. I've always found the tree in the background interesting and it survived the January 2003 Canberra bushfires.

TFTV and the short short stroll - but did get out of my armchair
