Description
A virtual dinosaur was placed at this location for National Science Week 2011 - it will apparently be there at least until the end of August. You will need a smartphone, the current version of the Layar app and the Jurassic Science Week layer to see the virtual dinosaur.
To log this cache, post a photo of your visit to gz that includes someone or something imitating a stegosaurus (and if the virtual stegosaurus is also present, so much the better!) .
If you enjoy virtual dinosaurs, you might also like to visit the parasaurolophus which is nearby at 42 52.984, 147 19.812. We have not listed it as a separate virtual cache due to the close proximity to the stegosaurus.

So I improvised a little here.
Just hanging around the fountain here.
Then a dino appeared!

Hi DDTs, thanks these dinosaurs are standing the test of time, these virtual ones are not yet extinct!
Found this one with jnrEP although he was lucky to get away (see pic). Thanks.

This was a fun little virtual cache where I found these with mummmy, Jessica and caughtatwork. Thanks for this cache here today.

Out with the family on a week in Hobart and before lunch we decided to go and find some dinosaurs. I remember when these were first published and was very envious that they were so far away. Today we loaded up the app, grabbed the layer and we were off to see what we could find. We found a lot today and they were all very cool and fun to catch. Thanks for this series of virtual caches with a difference.

Surprised to find these virtual dinosaurs still roaming the streets of Hobart. Today we managed to capture their image and grab a smilie. Thanks DDTs for our dinosaur encounter we enjoyed the experience.

Have been wanting to do these virtuals for a long time and today was the day technology and the dinosaur gods aligned. Had lots of fun. TFTV

this poor Virtual Stegosaurus has been locked out of his habitat while maintenance is going on. We found him in the Treasury car park trying to get into the back of a Subaru. TFTC

While out grabbing a few caches to start the new year off myself and Goose of GooseandEgg discovered a few Dinos on our travels.

Second find of a dinosaur under cover of darkness. No dino but shouted a chess set. TFTC.
Next on my virtual dinosaur discovery tour of the general area, I spotted this Roof Lizard attempting to have a game of chess at 18:00 while on the roof of one of the knights.
Thanks DDTs.

Was here a year or so ago and Old Saint got us a photo with beast in the image. No idea what happen but finally log it.
I had tried to find the dinosaur down on the wharf and couldn't find it. Assumed the Layar application had finished. However, Geoniece and I were checking out the fountain in Franklin Square and I gave the Layar app another shot. Ta da! There's the Stegasaurus! We'll find some more tomorrow, the battery was running flat today.
Oops, forgot to log this one when I found it a few weeks ago. He is rather a naughty one. Caught him playing in the fountain and also nonchalantly sitting on a park seat as though Steggies do that as a part of everyday life. TFTC. Love this series!
Woops, I finally have a ridgi-didge photo but it seems to be of the parasaurolophus which I think might be really close to it! I think I'll log it anyway! I was at the meeting place for the meet winden event and i noticed it was only 45m away. I had even rushed out to Toyworld on my way home and bought a dinosaur especially for tonight(so that hopefully I could get a few of those virtual dinosaurs on our way around the area). But they weren't really on the agenda, so this was the only one I got. Cheesy was kind enough to take a photo of the real mccoy with his smartphone (much smarter than mine!), and email it to me, so it's much more exciting to have that than going back for the other option with my plastic dinosaur. Nevertheless now that I have it, I'll go round the other locations and snap them too. It's a great concept, thanks DDT's.
I don't have an appropriate device for running the required application, nor do I have a pet dinosaur to bring with me. I hope that a photo taken in the appropriate location showing lack of dinosaur activity is sufficient for logging a find on this cache.
Tried to get him playing chess, but he just wouldn't stop eating the plants!
Perhaps he was looking for Chess: The Open Gambit?

Sneaky photo needed for this one, there were lots of kids in the square due to it being school holidays.
We went looking for this hoping that the virtual dinosaurs might still be available - it was only just outside of August and it was the holidays after all... - but couldn't find any of the necessary instructions for downloading the software. Instead we read the cache description are realised there was another option.... (I'm logging this weeks after we went there, and I see that others have snapped photos of the dinos since then, so maybe we will still be able to find some of them after all...)
Found this dinosaur after Geo Kid E's soccer game - and yes the soccer strip is that bright - we certainly dont lose them at night!!!!
There was a photo shoot goning on in the park, but the nature of these make it easy to find unnoticed.
Thank you for the cache and loading these as virtuals

Back in the car and a short drive and a quick park near the supreme court. Didn't drop in to listen to proceedings but walked to ground zero enjoying the sunshine.
Few People in the square, so the grazing Stego was not scared away.
Love these creatures. I remember runnig away from them in my first life. They don't call me OldSaint for nothing!!!
Great cache in pleasant surrounds. Logged at 1012 hours.
TFTC and cheers; OldSaint.
