Description
All around Australia and New Zealand are parks with gates to honour service men and woman who fought to make our lives as good as they are today. In order to log this cache you need to load a photo of these gates. This example is in Yackandandah. It was taken after a flash mob event there recently. Let's see how many we can find. You can also log memorial gates that remember people for other reasons.

We found these memorial gates at the small town of Swan Creek just outside of Grafton, New South Wales.
There are only a couple of buildings around, and the gates are easily seen from the old highway here.
The gates commemorate two soldiers from the local area.

S41 26.395 E147 08.473 ERNEST WHITFELD MEMORIAL GATES
These memorial gates are at the St Johns Anglican Church Launceston Tasmania.
The gates commemorate Ernest Whitfeld, a former police magistrate and coroner in the colony of Tasmania who died in 1923.
Ernest Whitfeld was also a well-known historian and was meticulous in his research into the early settlement of Tasmania from 1803, and painstakingly recorded both verbal and written recollections from residents. These were the basis of a series of lectures he gave in 1897.

Open Sesame ..... nope nothing happening!
I was wondering where on earth I could find some memorial gates. Couldn't think of any. It surely pays to come and check out the cache page first, it was alive with ideas and got my foggy brain clear in no time. Now the ideas are running amok. Thanks for the locationless Corunnaroad.
The gates were installed at All Saints on 25th January, 1959 with a plaque listing the 16 governors who worshipped there. The iron gates were made at Sutton Forest and were erected at "Hill View", the country residence of New South Wales governors from 1879 to 1957. They consist of double carriage gates and two side gates with VR 1890 inscribed on the posts.

The gates to the sports field record the names of all locals who have fought in WW1, WW2, and conflicts to present day.
They were first 'opened' in 1948, they were rededicated in 2007 when they had been modified to include the new tablet to commemorate those who had fought in conflicts since the world wars.

The Mueller Gates are at Vic Park in Echuca. For many years they remained locked. It's only in recent years the footy club decided to open them to allow more cars into the ground during games. Unfortunately the gates open on to the edge of our brigade "marshal" track and the constant traffic has killed off any lawn that did grow there. Now spectators to the brigade competitions have to stand on gravel and blue-metal rock.

James Henry Norman Price of the 15th and 42nd Battalions....Norm Price(World War 1 veteran) Memorial gate located at the Cleveland/Redlands Showground.
Lucky for me I took this photo as a just in case there is a locationless for this..haha yes there is!!! I took a lot of photos all around the showgrounds and the historical museum when driving past from the lighthouse virtual. Just snap away at anything and everything.
Norm Price, as he was known, was the eldest of 8 boys and 3 girls born to Henry John Price and Annie Price of Graceville. Norm was born in 1889 in Heywood, Victoria, however some time around 1905 the family moved to Queensland. Norm was among the first flood of recruits, enlisting on 20th October 1914. He was a 25 year old timber getter, employed in the Canungra area.
Norm joined the 15th Battalion as a private (regimental no. 640) , under the command of Lieutenant Colonel James Cannan who came from a well-known family from Chelmer, Brisbane. Three companies of the 15th Battalion travelled by train to Melbourne, where after more training, they boarded the troopship Borda on the 22nd December 1914 as part of the 4th Brigade. They arrived in Egypt in early February 1915 and began training for the Gallipoli campaign.

I'm not particularly good at observing things for locationless caches once, but then I find the same one twice! And I couldn't resist. This is the Harold Gatty Memorial (and gate) at Campbelltown, Tasmania. Harold Gatty, amongst other pioneering achievements, was the navigator on the flight which set the record for a circumnavigation of the world in 1931 in the Winnie Mae. 8 days, 15 hrs. He was born in Campbelltown.

Hi corunnaroad
I found these Memorial Gates in the small hamlet of Glen Huon, Tasmania while waiting for Mum to finish her Church visit and devotionals yesterday.
Glen Huon is significant in my life; Mum was born there and as kids we spent a lot of time visiting the grand parents there too. We got dragged to a lot of cricket matches that were played here at the local sports ground and other activities held at the Glen Huon Memorial Hall right next to the Memorial Gates and Park.
I've placed a cache called "Ancestral Glen" in the park because of my association with this small country village.
Enough waffle now;

On our way to Hobart yesterday we had to go on line to find the coordinates of a new cache hidden near Deloraine. Mrs y’tassie noticed a new locationless - Memorial Gates - listed. Today on our way home we travelled via the Eastern shore to avoid the slow Saturday afternoon traffic out of Hobart on the Brooker Highway. As we came through Bridgewater Mr y’stassie thought he remembered that when he had gone looking for a cache in this area a couple of years ago the little remembrance park down by the Derwent River at Bridgewater had gates. We made a slight detour and there they were, World War I - World War II Memorial gates to Memorial Reserve. The arch above the gates reads Memorial Reserve and the granite plaque on the left hand side of the gates reads For Those Who Served 1914-1918 and the one on the right reads For Those Who Served 1939-1945. There are several memorial plaques in the reserve plus a flag pole. It is a lovely peaceful reserve very close to a busy Highway. Thanks corunnaroad for listing this cache
