Logging this cache as part of the Sumer 2023 Cacheopoly Game. The railway bridge I've found is a point of contention for Lismore locals. It's no longer used, and a train hasn't passed over it since 2015. It's quite low, so prevents high vehicles from being able to travel under it, and it divides the road quite unsafely. Logical answer would be to tear it down, but it's heritage listed. Council are actively trying to remove it from the heritage listing, along with other similar bridges in town. This bridge has become unsafe, and supports have been added to prevent an accident.

LONGFORD

The Launceston and Western railway (to Deloraine) opened in 1871. This bridge was the largest structure. it is an iron bridge spanning the South Esk River at Longford. It was built at a cost of 28,000 pounds. The bridge is still in use by the railway today.

This railway bridge has two tracks on it, one for incoming trains and one for outgoing trains. The trains cart alumina in and caustic out at Bunbury’s Inner Harbour. There was a train getting loaded up and I wanted to take a photo of it on the bridge but our weather came in with heavy rain and strong winds so sadly I wasn’t hanging around.
When I saw this cache my mind could only think of one bridge and that one is a little hard to get to. Lucky Mr dimor came to the rescue, and so he should as he is a locomotive engineer (a fancy name for a train driver) and he drives on this bridge.

This railway bridge is near Quorn in South Australia. The photo shows Mr Beetle returning across it after going to get the cache 'Not for the Faint Hearted - GC7290'. It wasn't a bad effort considering he is scared of heights.

This rail bridge is located at Tingoora in the South Burnett Qld north of Kingaroy. The railway line goes from Theebine to Kingaroy but has not seen a train for a few years and now can be classified as a ghost line. Deconstruction of the line is about to start from the Theebine end as there was a lot of damage to the track and structures in both the 2013 and 2011 rain events.

I waymarked this bridge on 28 March last year & the following is my description:
The Argyle Street railway truss bridge has been in use for 98 years & is a dominant feature of Moss Vale's main street.
The bridge has technical significance because it was one of the new heavy duty trusses of the American style Pratt Truss which had become standard for large span bridges. The skew design and construction adds to the technical significance. The skew construction is relatively rare for major bridges. The bridge is a highly visible and fine example of a heavy duty, steel Pratt truss bridge, which retains its original fabric.
The above information obtained from the Heritage Branch of the NSW Government's Office of Environment & Heritage.

An old railway bridge at Snake Creek just outside Adelaide River ... the photo is a little fuzzy

The railway bridge over the Leven River at Ulverstone was built many years ago. As the loads carried by trains have increased over the years the design limit of the bridge was reached. Some temporary strengthening work was completed as an interim measure but a new railway bridge is now being constructed. Two photos have been adedd to the Gallery. The first shows two views of the railway bridges: the old bridge on the downstream side, and the emerging new bridge on the upstream side. The second photo shows two images of the new bridge under construction. The old bridge is straight and creates alingnment problems for trains, particularly on the eastern side. The new bridge is curved which will improve alignment issues, speed and safety.
This railway bridge is found in Avoca, Tasmania.
