The Peanut Company of Australia was established in 1924 as the peanut Marketing Board. More than 95% of Australia's peanuts are grown in Queensland. These Silos have a raw capacity of 8000Tonne approximately and are used to store the nuts prior to distribution and processing. The original wood silos burnt down due to a fire in the lunch room in 1951.

Last one on the way home. The day is beautiful much nicer than yesterday BUT the rain was VERYYY welcome for winter crop germination.
This town seeming so far from anywhere but so big(ish). Anyway the tracks past the silo were very rusty but a busy silo at one time going by the size of the town.

15-May-13
Still on the way to Narrabri going thru Burren Junction, getting darker and rain falin and I was still looking for somewhere with cover to cook and set up camp. At least I found this silo.
Eventually got to set up camp south of Narrabri an hour later. At least I could cook under cover.

After leaving Walgett heading to Narrabri came across another huge Silo. Cryon is built on all the volcanic black soils that are so sticky but sooo fertile.

Trundle a lovely town with a great place that definately deserves a few caches.Pity we have this stupid rule that you can't have caches more than 160 kms from home. This is Aussie not Europe or Yanky land where there millions of people in thousands of towns everywhere.

Forgot to log this a while back.

Mackay Harbour Silos.

Bunbury Silos are now luxury apartments after being transformed in the 1990s
The original Cooperative Bulk Handling (CBH) grain silos were built during 1937 and was the first time a continuous concrete pour into form-work was undertaken for a major construction. The non stop concrete pouring took around 480 man hours to complete.

The Silos became a major Bunbury icon and was eventually heritage listed. The Silos has now been transformed into a modern up market living complex with magnificent ocean views over Koombana Bay.. Very Happy

I've waited a few weeks to take this photo.

I new they would be the perfect ones for this month's photocache.

I took this quote from the graincorp website for the enthusiasts.

GrainCorp Containers Sunshine

GrainCorp Containers Sunshine is conveniently located in metropolitan Melbourne with access to Melbourne Port Container Terminal. The site has AQIS accreditation for QA export containers, and empty box accreditation for export markets and the domestic Tasmanian market.

Top loading containers for export markets and dedicated storage bins are available for the TF1 Tasmanian market. The site has road and rail intake. It is supported by a dedicated 20-wagon, GrainCorp-operated train that delivers grain from broad gauge upcountry sites three times per week.

With 50,000 tonnes of vertical storage, GrainCorp Containers Sunshine is a dependable and experienced container packing facility that reliably meets container packing requirements.

TFTL Very Happy

The grain silos photographed are located next to one of the western berths at the Port of Devonport. From memory the four large silos were constructed in the late 1950s or early 1960s. What was memorable was the construction method. Once the foundations had been completed, the silos were constructed as a continuous pour from bottom to top with the formwork being jacked-up as the concrete at the bottom of the formwork set and hardened whilst freshly poured concrete was added at the top. Originally there were four silos but two more smaller ones were added at the southern end at a later date. The silos were used for grain imported into Tasmania and for many years, have been the only active grain silos in the state. Their use is declining as most grain is now brought into the state in containers. The grain silos on the waterfront in Hobart have been converted to luxury apartments whilst the silos near Kings Wharf in Launceston have been decommissioned for many years. There are also very early stage plans to convert these into a hotel and apartments.

I waymarked these silos in Allora on the Southern Darling Downs, Queensland in January last year. They're on the edge of town in a grain handling complex. Waymarks don't require a GPSr in the photo.

These silos are in Launceston near the water front.
Have been here for a long time.

Grain Silo, taller than a mile,
I'm watching you from far away.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to log.
We're after the same photocache--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Grain Silo and me
