Description

Gordon Reserve

Unfortunately this geocache has nothing to do with Commissioner James (Jim) Gordon or Batman.

The Gordon Reserve is a small triangle of land bounded by Spring Street and Macarthur Street, containing the Stanford Fountain (1870), the Gordon of Khartoum Memorial (1889), the Adam Lindsay Gordon Memorial (1932), the underground women's public toilet (c1924), and five Canary Island date palms. Nearby is also the entrance to Parliament Station. The Reserve was originally part of the Parliament House grounds, but it became detached from these in 1863 and was called Carpentaria Place.

Read more about Gordon Reserve which is a heritage listed location.

The geocache you seek is a small sistema container only 200ml in volume. It is somewhat camouflaged to match its surroundings and is out of the way of the normal foot traffic of the folks who like to visit this location at lunchtime and as they arrive and leave work via the train station. It contains only a small log book and pen and regrettably no swaps. There were two sets of averaged co-ordinates taken over two days and the EPE (accuracy) varied from 4m to 6m. There is a very good hint if you are unable to pointpoint the cache with all the foot traffic around.

While grabbing the History caches in the area I headed over for this one well. Certainly looks like someone is still sleeping in the area, but no problems at 4.00 in the afternoon. Had that area to myself. Soon had the cache in hand but walked away a little to do the paperwork. No problems making the return either.

Thanks caughtatwork....like the bold hide.

GCA Find #120

The first time I attempted this one there was too many people and there was a homeless persons possessions blocking the way to GZ. After a days caching in the city I was near this cache again. I decided to catch a train from Parliament station - this time the way was clear - well I still had to climb over some bedding. All good at GZ, log signed and I was out of there quick smart to catch my train. Over 25 geocaches found today in the city so a good day was had! TFTC

Nice hide! Can recommend going on a Saturday afternoon - not many people around this station on the weekend.

I'm quite happy to be small as it meant I could completely conceal myself in my search and the signing process of this cache. A quick find thanks to the great directions and I was on my way for more. TFTC caughtatwork

I was conned into driving a mob down to the "G" for the game and was aware of a bus parking zone near this cache - how convenient. A short wander over and I, too, spotted a sleeping bag at GZ.
The cache retrieval was quite easy late on a Friday evening and the light rain also helped keep people away.
Thanks C@W.

A friend was offering some furniture we were interested in... the only catch was that it was in the CBD.
On the upside, the best time to collect large objects from the city is late at night, especially in the 35+ degree weather we've had for the past few days. So, I might be able to finally log a couple of caches that have been Muggle Central each time I've visited.
Car filled with lengths of metal, I parked at the top end of the city, and set off on foot. This was the 10th cache of the evening... two GCA trads in a row! Phone caching, I may have struggled to find the container without the hint. Thanks again for the history lesson and the hunt, C@W.

#GA970 - 16:50; I was in Melbourne for a few days with the geohoney, and as usual, I got to do some caching while she did some retail therapy. I had done a circle around the CBD and was about to head back to the hotel, collecting this one and another of the CO's nearby on the way to wrap up the afternoon. As I approached GZ, I spotted a likely spot and managed to pounce during a break in the muggle traffic. TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

After an evening puzzle solving session at Mrs Parmas, LouiseAnn, SirJ-OZ, lemmykc and I headed off to have a go at this cache. Near GZ we found that even at night there are muggles around, in this case the hi-vis variety. Hmm... Whilst we debated what to do and whether we should attempt the cache or not, SirJ slipped off and returned with the cache Razz A quick log and he slipped it back again - job done! Smile

12-Apr-16
We were in the area having a puzzle solving night at a near by schnitzel and beer venue and I was keen to grab this cache. I had been buy a few weeks ago and decided that lunch time wasn't the time to make an attempt on this cache. We were a little concerned by the fluro clad young worker standing near a car parked on the walk way, but as per most 'young people' these days, we was so engrossed with his phone, he paid us no attention at all, so SirJ-Oz went in for the grab, whilst Quiet1_au, lemmyck and I stood around chatting. After signing duties were completed, Quiet1 and I were so busy chatting with Lemmy that we didn't even notice SirJ go and put the cache back!!

thanks for the cache caughtatwork, it's a good one!

Found with LouiseAnn, quiet1_au and lemmykc after a puzzle solving meet up in the city.

Despite the muggle presence, I leaped in to make the retrieval (or perhaps it was the beer).

Turns out lunch time isn't the time to get this cache either.... I'll be back!

***FTF***

Well at 10:37pm I'm sure this would be a little easier than around 4-6pm.

I just had to wait for a couple of security guards to move on.

Then I pounced for a quick find.

Nice spot for a cache to.

I did a very quick check in the spot I thought but I didn't find the cache. With the number of muggles increasing, I didn't want to hang around much longer. I'll have another go soon.

Awaiting FTF.
