Description

A growing national landmark to visit while in Canberra.....

This is the third of the national landmarks in this mini-series and a nice place to visit while you are in Canberra.

In 2004, the ACT Government held a nationwide competition for an arboretum, which was to be part of the recovery from the 2003 bushfires. The winning design proposed 100 forests and 100 gardens focussing on threatened, rare, and symbolic trees from around the world.

The site has been planted since 2005, and includes ceremonial trees planted by visiting heads of government and ambassadors. It was officially opened in February 2013.

To claim this cache simply get a snap of yourself and/or your GPSr, for the shy types among you, in front of the The Village Centre, or in the Bonsai Garden, Canberra Discovery Garden, Pod Playground or other identifiable feature within the 250 hectares which comprises the National Arboretum.

We stopped by here while on our tour around Capital City today. Unfortunately we were a bit late to visit the centre but not too late for the necessary shot at 16:40. Very Happy

Thanks Luckyl10n.

Stumbled across this listing by accident and realised I can log it! Wink
I decided to choose my photo at the “In the Stream” artwork, which is very identifiable and certainly within the 250 acres which makes up the Arboretum! Thanks for this cache

GCA 2,633. After a big walk today we decided to do a few 'drive-by' caches.

Love visiting the Arboretum, and so it was a fun stop to grab this Virtual.

Thanks LL !!

Fitzy_1965 and I came into Canberra for a bit of caching on International Caching Day. After climbing all over Mt Painter we decided to do some easy drive-by's to rest the weary legs.

Quick snap here today.

Arrived home this morning from a great couple of weeks away centred around caching. However I still had the need to grab another on my home from Woden so popped up here to take a photo. A gorgeous day and masses of people everywhere. TFTV LuckyL10n .

I took a selfie up here a while ago, while we were having coffee after a nearby flash mob event, but I forgot to log later. .. was here again today (meetup walk) so I figured I would just take another selfie and log it now (have stopped to do that while walking back through the cork oaks from where the walk started/finished, to where I parked my car - near another GA cache or 3 I am hopefully about to find Smile
TFTC - nice place to come, I should come more often...

After a bit of a struggle at a nearby physical cache, I made my way around to the playground to get a picture.

Thanks

First up this morning we headed to the National Arboretum and looked for a few caches in the area. We then went to the restaurant and met up with Sol de Lune and Luck L10n for morning tea. We had a very enjoyable time in a location with wonderful views back over Lake Burley Griffin and the surrounding suburbs. Our discussions ranged over many aspects of caching and then other things as well. By the end we had sorted out all the problems in the world - if only they would listen to us!! Before we left we went to the Pod Playground and took the photo required for this cache. Unfortunately the lens must have been dirty but the image is sufficiently clear to show that we were there. Thanks LuckyL10n for the cache..

Found on a great day of caching to relax after the end of test week at college. The 2nd cache I found in just minutes named 'The National Arboretum.' Wink On the way out of the aboretum, I parked at the main carpark and took a photo with the entrance to the Village Centre - the location of my Year 10 formal, which brought back many great memories! Lovely place - with awesome architecture and views - that I always love to visit. TFTC LuckyL10n! Clan CerberusClan CerberusClan Cerberus

a nice day for doing some GCA caching. was going to go to the main building but turns out the arboretum was very busy, so I went up to dairy farmers Hill and got the virtual in front of Nest III.

This was my lunch stop on the way home from the snow. Never been here and have heard great things about this new parkland and facility. Just beautiful loved the bonsai.

Popped up to grab Dairy Farmers Hill trig, ended up doing a GCA cache nearby. Popped in here for a look. Believe it or not never visited here, despite it being opened in 2013.

I was here finding more of the HMAS series, when I spotted this on my GPS. Of course I wanted to log this too Very Happy. However it was getting dark when I finally made my way back up the hill. Still it was light enough for a photograph. TFTC LuckyL10n.

Went for Sol's Guardrail cache, but some knob was doing some "professional" photography of a motorbike nearby, so off I went and found another cache, and while I was there, I saw this great shot of the vistors centre, so I figured it'd go well for this Virtual (I was going to get closer!)
