Well my trip up to QOGM has officially started and I’m taking the very indirect route up to outback QLD to get there.
So after cruising up the Hume to Sydney then the M1 and A1 up to Byron Bay with a few other roads in between as I have been cris crossing a bit so it is time to start heading west.
I have never been up this way before so it will be interesting to see what towns I come across in my travels.
After spending the night in Texas I was heading to The Pink Pub at Dulacca for the night.
I saw this one on the map and eventually worked out how to get into here.
Started the walk and poked around abit and soon located the cache.
Then I finished the walk up to the top then t

Both my Geodog Scruffy and myself were itching to get out and find a few caches, so with the weather looking pleasant, we headed off Big Grin

This one took a bit longer than expected, til I realized I was looking in the wrong direction.
Scruff keep saying "try somewhere else" but you know how your mind just doesn't want to listen to anything.
Eventually I did and there it was.
I reckon the co-ords are about 7m out.

.. TFTC ..

PS those who read this & find the cache, please don't put the lid on to tight, just firm. We had a hell of a struggle trying to open. Maybe a smear of WD40 might help.

Quick and easy find and trackable dropped off. I came via Moffat Reserve Road. Was only on unpaved road for 1.5km and one minor creek crossing. Trackable dropped off.

Found on 31/10/2022; find number 1586.
Making our way slowly home from Townsville, we originally planned to stop in Millmerran for a ingle night, however forecast horrible weather further south made us stop an extra night to let it blow itself out. That gave us the chance to do some exploring and caching.
We attempted to access this one from the trad at the historical site for the murder of Mr Owen, but after a few deep water crossings, we were met by a locked gate, so we went the long way round.

A nice easy find at GZ, and paid the necessary the blood donation required by the pterodactyl cache guardians, aka giant hungry mozzies. Making my way to the summit for the ec nearby, I’m sure I felt light headed from blood loss. I guess all that floodwater must benefit someone.

A great spot and one day I’ll learn not to go caching in thongs. But not today.

Thanks for the hunt and the cache vinthe2nd.

I had an unexpected invite to help Ponchomon11 belatedly celebrate his birthday, with a massive hamburger at Nindigully Pub. I'm always up for a bit of an adventure so I didn't hesitate in accepting the invitation Razz

After arriving at the car park, we took a look at the map and quickly decided we would take the low road to avoid having to tackle the hill. After a brief search, the cache was soon spotted by Ponchomon11, and retrieved by 1MinnieMoo. This was certainly a great spot to stop for our first cache after an early morning start.

Thank you vinthe2nd for creating the cache and for maintaining it for everyone to enjoy Big Grin

Heading west with the gang for a burger ... and a few old caches. This was a key desire of mine and so we made the stop here and trundled along the left-hand (easy) path to GZ. Poncomon11 made the find a few metres further on. He had help. I signed the piece of paper - that was my contribution on site. A great start to a great weekend.

Thanks vinthe2nd for entertaining me at this location.

15/10/2022 Find #5544
A group of us had made a plan. We actually made it much earlier in the year (when I say “we”, I mean Ponchomon11), however our plans were flooded out when much of Queensland was. So we rescheduled and the gang got together this weekend to make those plans come to fruition.
An early start for us all had everyone except for SaintsMadHouse meeting up at 9am in Pittsworth. We then convoyed our way to this as our first cache of the weekend.
A very important study of the map and we decided to take the low road, arriving nice and easily at GZ, and avoiding the hill.
A brief search ensued, and the cache was quickly spotted by Ponchomon11, and retrieved by me.
I decided this was a lovely spot to drop off the gorilla travel bug I had.
Not a bad place to begin our weekend caching adventures.
Thanks for the cache vinthe2nd.

I started by walking up from the carpark and enjoyed the formation at the top before heading down to grab this one. According to my iphone the cache was 10m from GZ and over by the cliff. All is good here and I grabbed the trackables to move along. Stunning views and so glad I climbed both peaks.

Great spot! I was on an accidental adventure to find an earthcache nearby so of course I found this one while I was there. Ah, lovely! A good sized, well placed cache, woot! Nice location, nice view, nice hide, ripper! Thanks for the cache, I really enjoyed exploring the area up here.

Trolls are comprised of where they are born. Trolls
Coming into the city from the Ramtops are old stone and mica and quartz. With so many having moved to the city and starting their own family it’s certainly interesting to see brick and masonry kids running around these days.

Going to have to plan things better as this was our 401st find spewing we didn’t make it the 400th! Would’ve missed this lovely little area if it wasn’t for the cache! We ended up knackered after having a nightmare packing up with the vehicle making scraping noises, after emptying rear diff oil, (was low as) tracking down oil in the farm shed where we worked for a month between Inglewood and Stanthorpe, then thinking I’d have to remove the wheels and inspect rear bearing we discovered all it was, was the rear sway bar hitting on the tail shaft and got away very late. Ended up spending the night in the quiet little spot and enjoyed spectacular views all round at sunset and sunrise!

The was the main cache we wanted to find today, combining our love for roadtrips and bushwalking. We had read en route that the cache needed a log book so we stopped in Pittsworth to get one. At the time of signing we spotted another finder had left some paper so we added that inside the notebook and placed together inside the cache. Had a slight dilemma inserting it but made it work haha. Up we went and WallabyTim decided to send up the drone to capture a happy snap to commemorate our day. He sat down for a moment to set up before announcing that he had a little friend right by his hand - a young python taking a nap and trying to keep warm. I wonder if they have bad dreams about humans like we do snakes?!! TFTC and bringing us to this great location. A fave point from us Smile

No log book in or around the cache to be found and we forgot to bring spares today - sorry.

Container swapped out for new one. It was getting a bit too old.
The old swaps and log book had to be discarded as it had all been soggy for years. Unfortunately we had not thought to bring a new logbook and new swaps.
It would be great if someone could volunteer to stuff a few kiddy toys into it. And a new logbook too please.

Years and years ago this geocache first crossed my radar - largely because it hadn't been found in some time. But then, with expanding reaches of geocachers from even Brisbane, it got found and regularly and I let it slide way down my list.

Then last night was entirely sleepless. I found myself making a list to find around Brisbane, but nothing super exciting me. I had a hankering for an adventure, and a solo trip someplace. I flicked around the map and landed on this. I've never driven the Gore, nor visited Millmerran. And it's all only 2.5 hours from home. I was getting excited, and had no good answer for "why not now?". I showered, grabbed some essentials and hit the road at 04:30.

Lately it's been real wet, and I knew the whole area from home to here might be green. And it was. And some creeks are slightly flooded. It made for a magical drive out. I came via Toowoomba and the most direct route, but endeavoured to take a more scenic route home. My little hatchback bounced along lumpy country roadsa until I came to the gate. Public access, so I let myself in and pulled up at the picnic area.

For a place so seemingly unlikely, it's a brilliant facility. I for one wouldn't never come here otherwise, and I was struck but the sheer silence of the place. My breathing was the only sound aside from the buzzing of distant insects. Gosh, I turbo love that kind of silence.

I grabbed my walking pole and set off up the track. It's a little loop that takes you to both peaks. I walked slowly; being alone and miles from much but some heavy-footed wallabies were the only macroscopic fauna out here. Being that it's so wet, the area is wildly overgrown. Either side of the track, the grass and shrubs are waist-height. But the groundcover is all beautifully flowering.

Second peak came first, and I spent some time there, just watching. It's surreal to see so far, but recognise very little out there. This is a big piece of the universe, and I know none of it. It makes me feel small and I was enjoying all of it. I bashed my way towards GZ. My walking stick doing plenty of bashing.

Compared to previous photos, the area could not be more different. Until my phone said I'd arrived, I could never see more than a metre of ground in any direction. But, success was had. And I re-gained the second peak, walked over the second and back to the car. I put my drone in the air for about a half hour, then felt it was time to head home - ultimately via Leyburn, Clifton and Gatton. And older geocache taking me to a place I'd never otherwise know. And a perfect motivation to drive 490 kilometres on a Saturday morning. Thanks for this adventure, vinthe2nd Smile

Another cache along my detour. I parked the geomobile and took a pleasant stroll to GZ. As I strolled, I could hear thunder in the distance. Great views. A bit of bush bashing and I was at GZ. There, the cache was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC

The lid of the container is broken will allow water ingress. Could the next cacher please bring a replacement container. Thank you

Stopped here on my way home from the Australian Camp Oven Festival. Thought I'd have the place to myself but just as walked off to climb the mountain a car drove up. This made me think I may have trouble searching for the cache but the people didn't come along the track.

I found the cache easily enough after climbing the basalt rocks and then headed on to the other peak and back to the car park.

The people were there waiting for another seven vehicles of Field Naturalists and bird watchers? Glad I got there whe I did as they could've made it difficult to search for the cache.

TFTC and for bringing me to this spot.

On my way home from the QOGM and continuing my outback adventures. Today it was leaving Goondiwindi heading up the Gore Highway to Toowoomba and then a slight detour to Highfields before a straight drive home to Brisbane. I had a list of caches to collect and places to see, some oldies and some for a grid position.

Next on the list was this one, an oldie for my challenge cache. I took the path to the left and really enjoyed the walk. The views at the top were just awesome, a full 360 degrees from the top of the basalt rocks. We took the path back as to continue the loop, yep going the longer flatter way was best. This is a great spot and needs an earth cache here, thank you for bringing me here.

Hi vinthe2nd, while visiting your cache yesterday I found that the lid on your container has a hole about the size of a 50c piece in one corner. The lid appears to be very brittle. I am sorry I did not have anything with me to repair or replace. I put a stone over the hole, but I believe the rain (if we ever get any) will get into the container. It has some wonderful loot for swaps in it and I would hate to see them ruined. Hope you can repair it soon. Speedmistress

I having been used to Canberra caches, genghicat led me straight to the top of the hill. Hmm still 90m to go. I would have ignored my compass and gone straight to the top of the next hill. Thankfully Genghicat had his eyes on the goal and led me I the right direction, where I made a quick find. I wouldn't class that as lonely though. Cache was found in good condition and some lovely photos were taken. Tftc

I was following the sparse trail of caches towards Inglewood today,
and this one was showing up on me map.
Turns out that you never know which geocache is going to turn out to be an absolute beaut Big Grin

This one was one of the bestest caches I've headed on in to find for a while [^]
Past the gate and at the picinic area,,
it was time to head on up the hill on foot Smile

Well that's basalt alright Smile
Even at GZ I could see the distinctive blocks.
And beneath one of the columns,
the cache was soon found Big Grin

What happened to to logbook ?? [:o]
Did someone nick it !!??
I signed the scrap of paper instead Big Grin

And it was time to head on up to the top to enjoy the sight of some of the best basalt columns I've seen for a while [^]

Fave dance time !! [^]

After camping the night at Millmerran I took the road towards Inglewood On seeing this green box on the map decided to investigate. My gps took me on lots of gravel roads and was not showing the roads on the map but realised later I could have approached and departed on bitumen. However the journey was well worth while with a pleasant walk and stunning views in all directions my reward. A favourite point for the place TFTC vinthe2nd

29-Oct-16
This cache is well worth the diversion off any off the nearby main routes - just follow the signs to the power station as these seem more reliable than maps which show roads that are now closed and part of the coal mine. Access from the north is all bitumen, but to the south there are a few km of good dirt road.

The cache was an easy find after a short walk which was full of butterflies (and flies!) and wildflowers. The climb up the 2nd hill is easy and certainly worth the extra 10 mins or so. The best formations were up there.

Thanks vinthe2nd!

Found this on the long weekend with OMY130. Great spot, some lovely roads approaching the area too, naturally we found the long way here.

Thanks for the cache and bringing us here.

I was in the area looking for old caches and this was next on my list.

So I had a major GPSr failure. But I can't blame TomTom. Roads were closed all over the show. I finally found the way to get to this beast.

Through the gate and up the hill. I thank the good Lord that the rain abated just long enough for me to make it to GZ, find the cache, and get back to the car.

I found the cache in good condition. There were a few swaps around it on the ground as well. I dried them off and added them to the cache. It's a pity the weather wasn't so great - I am sure the views up here are spectacular. A favourite for the day for sure. TFTC vinthe2nd Smile

Out for a Mothers Day Drive and after picking up a nearby cache we decided to push and grab this one as it had recently became unloved. The day was beautiful with the sun shining. We parked the car and headed off. After a nice easy walk we arrived at GZ. 84km from home.
After having the phone app do an update of the previous cache info and archiving it while I was less than 50m from it, this was the second of my St Paddy’s Day Dash out this way. A great lesson on the large information board and a relatively easy to follow and well marked track. The track, the first climb, the ‘dip’ and the climb to the second peak reminded me of a ‘mini me’ for “Nutters Knoll”. Soon found the cache on the way back from the top but must admit I took “the low road” back to the geobuggy.
Took a carabineer and left a jigsaw puzzle and a CASA key ring.
It has been a long time between finds on this cache so I was reluctant to strand any ‘trackables’ here.
Cache is well stocked and in good condition.

Fantastic place for a cache. I can't believe it is almost 2 years between drinks for this cache, it is such a fantastic spot. After spending the early afternoon fishing unsuccesfully at Yarramalong weir, we headed around to check out this cache. The fact that it had gone almost 2 years without a find, and a coin was waiting patiently meant that I had to give it a look. The drive in was "interesting". The track was barely recognisable, the rhodes grass was taller than the bonnet of the Prado! Then we came to a small spot with water across the track. It looked short and shallow - didn't look too bad, but as soon as we hit it the nose dove down which gave a moment of fright, but other than a bit of a scrape underneath we emerged unscathed. Looks like I have a car to clean on Saturday. The rest of the track was fairly easy, albeit overgrown. What a surprise then to find that the picnic area at the end of the road was freshly mown - you'd think they'd give the track a touch up too! The path to the cache was also very overgrown, quite difficult to follow in places, and lots of spider webs to negotiate, but soon made my way through to GZ, where a quick find awaited. A bit of dirt had almost covered the cache, but it was still in very good order. The log and contents are all in good order. Liberated the coin so it can start moving again. Headed up the 2nd hill to look at the structures and take a few photos then headed back to the car. Lost the track on the way back (the GPS was still locating on the way in, so I didn't have a good track to follow), which caused a few nervous moments in chest-high scrubby undergrowth trying to work out where to go, but finally made it out. In all a good way to finish off a great afternoon. Thanks for the cache!

Finding the cache wasn't too hard, however finding my car keys after I got back to the car and found they were missing was a challenge. Unfortunately hidden keys do not come with clues to drcrypt !!!

One of the highlites of my trip. After figuring out how to open the gate I was further delayed by a fat, rough looking lizard sunning itself on the track. Attempted to photograph her but she wandered into the weeds so I tried to shoo her into more open ground - she was the boss!! Walked to the cache & as signing log, an endless procession of wallabies jumped past. The male was making rutting noises & the ladies were keen, heading into the thick scrub below the cache. They were only 10 foot away so I called out & waved my hands. They totally ignored me - only one thing on their mind! Took a bear, left a whistle for the next lucky cacher (get those wallabies' attention).

I was in the area (leyburn) this weekend Orienteering. I had a bit of time after my run on Saturday to explore and this cache sounded interesting so I went in search of.

I had a great time meandering through lots of backroads to get here. There had been reasonable rain in the days prior as I had to drive through a number of large puddles on route.

I found the parking area and followed the stoney path over the first hill to the cache and the marvelled at the Basalt columns - very similar to a cache I placed called "Scoria".

I stood on top of the hill watching a pair of wedge tailed eagles effortlessly gliding in the updrafts - they spotted me and came in for a closer look - of course this was the day I left my telephoto lens at home. It started to sprinkle rain on me, so I scampered back to the car.

This spot is so out of the way and quiet - to me, this is what caching is all about.

Took the Czech coin and left a GCA sticker.

The natural 'steps' were quite interesting and practical too when climbing up the second hill.

Dropped in on my way to Texas. An interesting location. There had been some rare rain in the days before so it was a bit muddy.
Found the cache pretty quickly. It's in good shape and dry.
Took Koala, left steam loco.

Thanks for the cache.

First to find this remote cache at 3:35pm on the 27th April. Thanks Vin the 2nd for the adventure. These two basalt hills are amazing. The last time I saw anything like this was the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland. I know, I’m a name-dropper. Mt Ngungun, one of the glasshouse mountains north or Brisbane has a lot of this stuff as well, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen the columns laying over at such varied angles. Mother Nature is quite a landscaper.
Signed the log, claiming the F.T.F. Big Grin, then took a $20 fridge magnet and left a little bear with a red jumper.
It was so perfectly silent at the cache, the only sound was the scratching of my pen. I climbed both hills and looked about with my binoculars. Fabulous place. When I left, I headed south to the historical town of Kooroongarra. I’d love to have had more time to look around, but a cache at Texas was calling.

ARH Tigers Bear has taken a bit of detour on his way to NZ and is checking out the views at Mt Basalt. If he is not grabbed quickly I will move him to a more populated location soon.
