Looks like it was a victim of the Canberra bushfires...

We will check up on it soon.

act4wd please check on your cache; replace or archive it if it's gone. Hopefully it's still there and you can post a note to that effect. I've temporarily disabled it in the meantime. Thanks! erik - geocaching.com admin

Just found out that the path up to this place opened a while ago, so had I some free time on the weekend to go and have a look. The area is starting to recover from the fires but it still has a long way to go. While we where walking up we got snowed on. Brrrr freeezing. Anyway went looking for the cache but we where unable to find it. I am pretty sure I had the right spot as I had found this one a couple of years ago but the area has changed a lot. Maybe this should be archived before any one else goes on a burnt cache search.
Thanks

Well the LandieCrew decided it was time to stretch the legs. The day we planned ended up being a beaut Canberra winters day. Was great having the steep section first - I hate to think what the landiekids would have done if it was at the end. LandieKid #1 found the cache, starting to get an eye for it. We used the compass bearing. Walking around the rocks, to the steps, the GPS narrowed the location to the area. A great view, quite popular, we saw about two dozen people in 6 groups. Felt unsual being the only ones who knew of the cache's existance. We swapped Preston the dog for the red plane. Be glad when LandieKid #3 is out of the pack! Thanks ACT4WD club - The LandieCrew, from LRCACT.

Well, that's the fourth time I've visited this place, but the last three times I was oblivious to geocaching. With the added clue, I found this cache easily. (Without it, it would maybe have been a different story). I reckon this cache could be rated a tad easier. - Swapped a keyring and porsche for a pair of binoculars.

After much searching (30 mins) we finally found this cache. Must have walked over it half a dozen times. Actually found the pencil from the cache lying on the ground which led to the discovery of the cache.
Also had to resort to the compass bearing as the batteries died in the e-Trex. Boy do they suck the juice!
Left a pair of nail clippers and a new pen (old one buggered) and took nothing.
A fairly challenging cache for our first one. On the the next.

Bit of a walk in the bush only to reach the search area and find it full of people, more like doing an urban cache. We did not bother with the compass work as the GPS got us close enough. The lid of the cache was off and some of the contents spilled out. After swapping the Snoopy for a Porsche we repacked the box and placed it so the lid would not come off as easily. (Lid is not that secure). Nice views from the Rock.

Found it Friday 19 October 2001. Rode our Mountain bikes all the way, went from Smokers trail - easily rideable, though a goat track at times. Light snow fell for a few minutes. When we got there a busload of teenage school kids were swarming all over the rocks. There we were, with our gps and compass wandering around between schoolkids on some assignment, lookin foolish in their eyes. But we found it 3m from gps coords. Grazed me knee in the process. A FANTASTIC ride back down 15km of hill - Coo-ee !!

Finally found it after 15 minutes solid searching! It was the eagle eyes (and lower height) of my daughter Meagan who holds the honours! Great location for the cache - would have been stuck without the compass bearing reference though! All the family made it to the site, despite 2YO son having to be carried on my shoulders nearly all the way there and all the way back. Took the Matchbox car for #1 son and left the Avon soap. A great day out - thanks to the ACT4WD club for this one!

Yes what a great view over Canberra. Very neatly framed by the hills with snow on top. But we where not the only walkers on the day. I counted a least 15 other people on the walk. Peak hour traffic on the nature trail..... A tip for the other geocaches, you will need to take your compass and use the extra instructions. enjoy.......

Found a virgin cache in the purest of driven white snow!! I was a ripper of a day although the weather closed in behind us as we left.

There was some poor bugger wondering what the hell these two guys were doing scraping the snow away from the rocks! I'm sure he thought we were looking for drugs! Found it after about 10 minutes and assured the guy it was all above board!

Awesome views across the valley from on top of the rock. Great walk in the snow. Check out the pics!!

Thanks to the 4WD Club...Dean has given the silver Frontera a new home and we left a PC CD-ROM game.

Cheers,
Andrew

Well, what can you say:

a) It was raining,
b) It was windy,
c) It was a bloody long hill,
d) My partner wore flat soled shoes,
e) No water or food,
f) It was late in the afternoon
g) 10mins to find the cache was the allotted time,
h) Found nothing,

We shall return, and we shall conquer.....
