Today I was out with SueDan83 and Sensible Sis and we had a wonderful time finding the 3 caches along the Nepean River. It was decided this cache would just be a great way to finish off a fantastic day. We parked up top and followed a fire trail and then a kinda track. Down, down we went to what we thought was the right level... and found a really good spot for GZ. After a thorough search and coming up empty Sensible Sis moved across to the next rocky outcrop and made the find. Thanks

A day out caching and paddling with SueDan83 and HappyUke.
We came here after finding a few caches on the Nepean River.
Great view from up here of where we started our day.

We parked above the cache and followed a track before a bit of a bushbash across to GZ. We searched a couple of spots before moving back up a level. It was here that I spotted the chute and the loot quickly followed.

This was a tough one. At first I was down at the water, wondering how to get to GZ. Then I realised that I needed to park somewhere totally different. I drove up, found a good place to park, and began walking to GZ. Walking quickly turned into slipping, sliding, and rock hopping. Speaking of hopping, the coords were hopping about a bit too. Silly smart phone. Thinks it's a supercomputer that can make phone calls, but all it is is a fancy torch, music player, camera, communication device, calculator, navigation device, voice recorder, watch, gaming console, alarm clock... well maybe it is pretty smart after all, but it was giving me grief today.
I looked in several places and worked my way down and across, and after I while I hit the jackpot. Very happy to find this cache. It was a good challenge that required persistence and, I think, a bit of bravery. I really enjoyed the drive through Menangle Park and Douglas Park - two places I'd never been through. Some lovely countryside here, but suburbia is encroaching!
Thanks homedg for a placing a cache in such a great spot!

Great hiding spot. Found with Ellel buddies.

Took a bit of time to find this one, but got there in the end! TFTC

02-May-20
This took us a little longer than we expected as the light was fading. Thankfully we had a torch! The track from the river up was quite slippery however we got there in the end. Reading through a few logs helped us narrow it down despite briefly looking over this spot in an earlier search. TFTC.

After passing this one sooo many times geofamily and I finally did it. What an adventure. After about 15 mins of searching and having a good idea where it should be(gps moving a lot). Started to lose hope due to 2 prev. DNF. Reading through all info and logs I came to the conclusion I have to get down and dirty. Sure enough I had located the cache in no time. Great place for a cache. Tip don’t wear thongs and good clothing . Ended up a lil scuffed and dirty. Take care if climbing up from road below. Not sure if accessible from up top. Great cache fav. For sure. Found with macka4867, knightjr and pandagirl.

Out with the geofam (KnightJR and Panda_Girl65) today and looking at this one we thought Gundrills could do the search for this one as no one was properly prepared for climbing for this one. Thanks for the hunt. TFTC

No luck for us today, but after 40 minutes I had to give up as I needed to catch a plane.
top views from GZ though and great fun.

Thanks for placing and maintaining the cache.
Cheers and Happy Hunting

Omg this was the most fun one ever, I did bring the kids 10,11 and 12 and they said it was amazing. Yes a bit dangerous for them but it’s all about growing up. Need a new pen in the box though I used it and it is running out

#300. Woohoo. Such a beautiful place I used to come as a child. After some scrambling and squeezing I made the find. Terrific. Tftc

05-Aug-18
Not found with Orrsome86 on a day trip full of kayaking down Sydney way. Leaving Newcastle early we made good time. Launched and found three, before a DNF on land, moved to a new location and found most of the splash 'n cache series (DNFing two of them). Ten water access caches in one day plus a couple other random ones.
Where did we go wrong. We went all up and down these cliffs looking, but time to move on.

#3 - A lot of scrambling and a little roo poo later. Loved this one. The 'chute' is really awesome.

25-Mar-18
Found a sneaky way up the cliff line from the weir. The re were multiple possibilities for the hide and it took us some time to zero in. Finally, B&W and I heard a faint; "got it" from around the corner from Alnic.

After our morning paddle as PPE, alnic and ourselves had not found this one we ventured up the slope with some loose sections and got to a location that looked promising but took a bit of searching before hearing alnic call out "found it". Great views and had a good view of some bloke in a new 4WD trying to free himself from being bogged in the river sand with him resorting to dropping the tyre pressure. TFTC

25-Mar-18
I ventured up with B@W and PPE and at one point I told PPE that this was as far as my fears would let me go. While and Bella@W were searching atop a rock, I spotted a cave further up and decided that there were no sheer drops for me to fall from. I made my way up, with plenty of small trees to help make me feel safe. I crawled into the cave, (my fear of caves is only slight) and once I got my whole body inside, I made the find. Surprised myself with this one! TFTC. Well worthy of a fave point.

Found after a lovely paddle up the river. Stunning morning followed by this great view. Slipped and slid towards gz, I figured i was in the right spot but couldnt make the find. Fortunately CTH had a go and soon came up with the prize. Fav point for adventure and tftc

After a refreshing paddle we set out our plan of action to conquer this cache. The climb was between, bloody hilarious to holy crap. After BB found the right spot, i slid in to find the cache. A bit of arse sliding on the way back down with alot more giggles and dirt down the pants. It was so much fun. Thanks for the hide !

Finally found this well hidden cache. We had investigated the chute before, but not closely enough. I can now guess two reasons for the cache name. TFTC

Aaugh! Of all the cachers I know, I'm the Charlie Browniest. This was today's target for my monthly Monday afternoon caching trip. I thought that I might manage to get a second one, but I made my habitual mistake of having my hands almost on the cache before deciding to look elsewhere and thus doubled my search time. Although I started at the bottom, so without that mistake I would've missed out on some great exercise and views especially at the very top. Marvellous location for a cache and a well picked hiding place, so a good use of my afternoon.

#3 - Lots of scrambling, a few scratches and some roo poo on the shoe. Great hide though

22-Aug-17
With my 50km radius slowly being cleared, I spent the day tackling some of the most northern hides. I managed to hit double digits, which will start becoming a rare phenomenon unless I travel further afield! Thanks to the Cache Owners for the caches I found today.

Fifth of the day. Torrential rain had closed off the bridge last time I was here. This time I was able to drive down to water and attempt this one. I managed to locate a reasonably defined trail that led me around and up the side of the hill. As I got closer to the top my GPS started to jump around. It was just a matter of finding the right level. I found a spot that looked too good to give up and after crawling in, I spotted the cache neatly tucked away. I made my way back down and back to the car in one piece - onto the next one. Thanks For The Cache!

This one looked fun so on my way to Blue Mountains for the weekend I stopped in here with geodog to look for this cache,we approached from the top, once at the cliffs geodog wasnt very impressed having being left tied to a tree up top while I went down looking,It was a bit tricky to find but found it in the first place I tried but just didnt look hard enough,

A day trip to Sydney for a work meeting. Chose to drive to cache there and back, catching the train from Campbelltown. This one looked interesting, so gave it a go, approaching from the top. It was certainly a challenge, but got there in the end. Co-ords were spot on. TFTC.

18-Apr-16
After doing the two nearby kayak caches, and being needed home very soon, I couldn't resist the chance to pick this one up as well. Found a route up after passing through some of the thickest spider webs I have ever seen, and then some terrain well and truly worth the 3.5 rating. Eventually found the cache in the first area I had looked, just needed some closer attention. All I can say is it is exactly where I think a cache should be placed, and for that, I'll give it a favourite point.

After a successful kayaking trip, crossed the weir and made the ascent. Initially stopped a little too low, but then I spotted what looked like a suitable hidey hole - and then made a quick find.

31-Jan-15
I parked at the river to do this one and found the Hancock Clan there loading a kayak on their roof.

So we joined forces and climbed the hill. We each went seperate way at GZ, with me making the right choice and crawling into the right spot to make the find.

We tried this one a few years ago but came away empty handed. Today though we got lucky, and after loading the yak onto the roof after a paddle down the river, we bumped into Team Canary who helped us find it this time. No more will we see that unfound geocache icon on the GPS when we drive down the Hume Highway!
Cheers,

Went the easy way instead of the up hill scramble from the river (best access from Nepean street). A really great walk, phone stopped working 16m from the cache. Bugger, but wait wouldn't that be a top spot to put a cache i thought to myself and there it was.

Thanks enjoyed this one!

What an awesome cache!! After an afternoon out on the river we were so close to this one. But we didn't think an approach from the bottom was only terrain 3.5!! Reading through past logs, we got the hint that there was another way and after a bit of a scout around we spotted a likely trail. It started off in the right direction and then ended somewhat abruptly and we were on our own. We gradually made our way down, level by level, having to retrace our steps multiple times to find safe ways down. Found a couple of chutes and were cursing thinking which chute!?! Finally the GPS started to get close enough to be believable and there was the master chute! It had to be here!!! But still took a bit of a search (and numerous expeditions through said chute) before finally spotting the dratted thing [xx(][B)]. Couldn't have asked for a more perfect spot for a cache. Took geocoin.
Thanks homedg Big Grin

After a beautiful paddle up Cataract Creek with Altaire, we made our way to this cache. They had found it before but it was that long ago they couldn't remember. After reading past logs I decided the best access was from above. Correct. No need to scramble from below. There is a perfectly good track that takes you to within 20 m of the cache. A little bit of scrambling to get to the right elevation and a very cache like hiding spot was revealed. Very cool. I liked this a lot. It was certainly cooler here and we all felt like staying a while out of the heat. Caching business complete, I left a geocoin. Thanks for the great hide.

Pulled the kayak out of the river after a paddle and getting another cache. I thought that I would go for this one. So I headed off from the weir as I thought it was the only way in. Up and Up I go then I reach the top. Hmmm where to from here oh there is some stairs. Soon at GZ and after some time found the cache well hidden. I just got out from GZ and met other cachers who told me that there was another way out walking up. Decided to go that way and I could not believe it. It only took me about 5 minutes and I was on a road. What? All that hiking up a hill. (one hour) Great hide TFTC and getting me out there. A favorite for sure.

Having the offer of a lift south meant I was able to get a few caches I normally wouldn't be able to get to. Dam drag (of the canoe), but it did mean we got to do this one we seen a few times as we had gone up and down the freeway. Took a while to finally get a lock on a decent GZ.
All good with the cache.

1400 GAFF2 Well I wasn't expecting to be here this afternoon. We were travelling from Wollongong up to 'Sydney' to have a go at a FTF (which I may have succeeded at), but realised while on the freeway that having the kayak on top was reducing our fuel economy and as I didn't want to run out before I could roll into a service station used the GPSr to direct me into Douglas Park. And when I looked for the nearest cache notice this one that I had already driven past a couple of times, and it sounded so tempting that I thought we would go and have a look.
While there was quite a group of muggles at the bottom as you climb on up they can't much of what you are up to. As my usual practice is, I dropped my backpack at GZ and then expanded my search. Ended up moving it a few times, as GZ drifted a bit. Found the cache after half an hour, about 4m from my backpack. As I was almost out of CSMs I left a BNZ pen I had collected from the NZ Mega.
Will add a book mark for the Challenging Cache elective.

#2,302

A few weeks ago I spent a day in our Wollongong office, and decided to drive home via the scenic route. I spotted this cache on the map & considered looking for it. But I was in a very nice dress & heels, and decided to leave it for another day.

Today we came to the weir to launch our kayaks, and took the opportunity to look for this one first.

Bikerbuddy went up one way, but I kept slipping back when I tried to follow. So I tried a different entry point and found an easier (ie less slippery) way up. We found a likely looking spot, and there was the cache Smile. A nice little hide that reminded us of home. Coordinates were pretty good too, wasn't expecting that in such a rocky area.

Thanks Smile

We were here with the kayaks to do Hoojar's "Pirates of the Nepean" cache, but this cache was so close to where we parked that we just had to give it ago before hitting the water. Of all the caches we did today, this was the most like caching in the mountains, especially the final hide, which made sense of the hint. Thanks

Wish Leesh told me were going geocaching so I wasn't wearing thongs and dress pants, which I had to take both off. I recommend good shoes or no shoes didn't end up be a problem. And we had a nice swim afterwards to wash our grubby selves.

What a top spot. I don't know if I'd ever driven this way. Nice drive and awesome rock formation along the road and also at gz. Had fun going through the chute and after realised I probably could have just walked around the other side Smile . The cache description led me straight to the cache. Thanks again. Will be adding this to my favourite list.

I've driven past this on the highway a zillion times and been frustrated at it being so close but not approachable, so today it was on my list as I was in the area but off the highway. Still, finding how best to approach GZ was the first challenge! Found a parking spot and made the scramble up, lots of fun and a clearly-defined path although a few different options on the way. Got to what seemed to be the likely spot, went through once, then once again looking more carefully and made the find. I'd forgotten my pen so used what seemed to be a purple paint pen from the cache but turned out to be some kind of colourful glue or something? So hopefully not too disastrous an effect on the log. Interesting spot here and a fun scramble, so TFTC!

Great little hiding spot. "when you find the chute you've found the loot" had a somewhat ironic meaning as whilst I was there 3 BASE jumpers opened their "chutes"

Tried to look for this one about six months ago without success. Came back today determined to find it. Walked in from the top and made my way to the bottom so that I had a good understanding of the track and the likely hiding spots. Thought the cache might be near the old stairs and the ramps so did most of my searching here. Then trusted the GPS and looked elsewhere. Finally read a previous log and went back to a location I had only roughly looked at. Crawled in and to my delight found the cache. My GPS had me still 20m from GZ and the location was on the left hand side of the track I used from the bottom. This track seemed the easiest and most used track. A great location and a great morning scramble. TFTC.

Well. What an adventurous afternoon.

Managed to follow a track from the top, near where we live, got half way down a very, very, steep hill near the causeway, to find the track ran out. Couldn't scramble back up, so was committed to keep going down.

Eventually made it to the bridge, but needed to get past the work site, and the worker's wouldn't entertain the idea in the least! There was no way I was going to be able to climb all the way back up, so had to call my better half and get him to pick me up. He had already come looking for me (as was not convinced I should attempt it - he was not amused).

Unfortunately, unsuccessful. If workmen had not been there, would have kept going, but no way I could get past them ...

Definitely learnt from my experience however. Too hard to attempt by myself at my age and lack of experience, scrambling down steep cliffs was quite foolhardy. Must say I did enjoy it though!

Will have to leave this one to the experts ... or at least wait until the work site is finished! Look forward to further reports, if anyone manages to find it from accessing from the top.

Didn't find, Noticed some cushions in a cave so maybe it has been muggled?

The last one for the day and certainly the hardest.

Many years ago when I was young and stupid I jumped off a massive cliff near here. Twisted

How about all the support structure near the top of those big bridges! Makes you wonder hey? are they holding up ok [?]

Anyway, with all the works going on I had to squeeze around the fence then up the hill. A steep climb. I found a cave like structure and ventured in, prodded around but with no success so went along further and up, no luck there. Back down, another try in the cave including taking pictures with the flash from the mobile but without success. So onwards and upwards, hey a whole other level here! Surprised After a previous log about some caving I spotted another likely spot. Bit of a prod and then finally got right up in there and spotted a rock that looked suspicious. Sure enough that was the cache and so pleased to have found it. Big Grin

Left a TB and coin after that great search and back to the car headed for home. TFTC!

After signing the log and doing some swaps I then had to go in and replace. A top view of the bridge and river from here. Thanks.

Have had this week off from work so sunny day nice temp added up to go and find that cache no 90,so choose this one just for the terrain rating and off course a homedg cache. There was a goat track at the bottom but it looked a long way up so drove around and tackled it from the top.Hopping and sliding over boulders soon arrived at GZ.

I am not one for confined spaces so after about half an hour of just sticking my head in contacted owner just to confirm my worst fear
yep right spot in I have to go! A lot of heavy breathing and convincing myself everything all right soon had that cache in my hands.

Arriving at the causeway we found the area awash with a large group making preparations for a paddle down the river. Not a chance we thought of looking for it from below with so many eyes about. Went up to the top - which as it happened seems to us anyway to be the easiest way. A short stroll and a little bit of clambering brought us to a very likely looking spot. And so it was. We sat a little while on a nice rock in the rapidly heating day signing the log whilst watching the canoeists way below. Looked like an excellent idea on such a hot day. Excellent cache location with nice river views to be had. A little bit of adventure thrown in as well. We made no swaps. Ah yes. No more shall this cache taunt us as we pass o'er the nearby freeway bridge.

20-Jan-09
I had a morning job just up the road which stretched out to more than half a day. So with plenty of time to kill I headed down to the causeway and climbed up the slope towards GZ. After 30 minutes of searching with no luck I drove back up to the work site to be told they were still not ready for me. So this time I tried from the top and down the 'sewer staircase'. In a different way and bingo. Certainly a good workout for my sesqui-centenary cache. Thanks Homedg.

Found by Mary & David at 1115. This was the most difficult terrain we've tried for quite a while, and just about on our limit. Just as well we managed to find it after all that exertion. We love the Sydney sandstone country, and the view of the beautiful stretch of river from near GZ made the effort worth while. We weren't looking for the geocoin, and didn't notice whether it was there or not. Our thanks to homedg.

I came in here with the family in tow on our way to a day out slightly further south of here. Each time I head out down this freeway this cache would seemingly laugh at me as I could not find the time or other excuse to come and get it.
Well today was that day but upon seeing the 56 metre trek to GZ from the road below I had no takers on the walk in so excepted the challenge on my own. I found a likely walk in and proceeded to work my way to the top, upon arrival I had a bit of a scratch around in some likely places but seeing the number of likely hiding places became swamped with the idea of checking them all, before long I'd checked over an area of about 30 square metres but still no luck, now it was time to call the owner of this tricky little cache. As it turned out I had started my search in the right spot, so with some new info I trapsed back up to the spot and made my way in...... eeesh what the hell was he thinking was uttered as I ascended into the sandy depths but before long the cache was in hand. A truly evil hide that will keep the best of them guessing Thanks for bringing me here Homedg this time you've out done yourself. Even with your help I don't feel like I've cheated on this one, Many Thanks a must do cache!!!! CoolCoolCoolCoolCool

A very interesting adventure with the planned results achieved. The staircase was truly amazing. Does anyone know when or why it was built?

To help the septics celebrate their version of 'Straya Day we thought we'd go caching. I can now report that you can "almost" drive to GZ, well within 30m or so, if you pick the right approach. Certainly the road across the causeway is blocked from both sides at the moment so don't try that way.

TFTC, nice spot with great views of the Nepean.

** The approach to this cache is blocked off due to a rock fall - from the Western approach at least. Dunno if you can approach from the east. We had to divert back via Menangle, might try again from the Wilton side soon. R.

I learnt a lesson today. After reading the description and the hint (cheat cheat) on this cache I spied the cliffline and went Ahuh!!!! A chute. Thats where I'll head to, it says poor reception at GZ but I can see the chute so it must be near there. Well after 2 steps up and 3 backwards I was at chute No:1, but there was no cache. After the gizmo telling me I was along way from GZ I headed towards GZ. Chute No:2 appears, fits the description and yep its pouring rain so I shelter in the chute and search and search. Finally after a hint I find chute No:3 and the cache. Thanks Homedg for the adventurous hunt in testing conditions.

Over the years we’ve come across some strange cache containers, everything from pressure cookers to pelicans and artificial limbs. So when a cache has a name like put a lid on it our first thought was we would be looking for a saucepan, by the way we made a nice mango and ginger sauce last night. So once the cache was located we could not figure out the name of the cache. While taking some snaps we noticed a car below and thought it might have been a cacher but on closer inspection the windows where fogged up. So maybe that’s where the name comes from!
Now it’s off to the yoga retreat for the weekend.
Took coin.
