Find 223 for the tribe and find 3/9 of 9 different cache types for us today
We'd attempted to get this one from the Scout Camp carpark before which was a big mistake. No way I was scaling that hill with two geokids! Best spot to park is near the dumpsters on the way in. Then at the hairpin bend which crosses the little creek take the side track up the hill past the locked gate and you will find a much easier path to GZ. Massive mossy log nearby is worth a look on the way in.
Although everything is a probably a lot more overgrown now than it was in 2007 followed the clues and my caching instincts and was rewarded with the find. A nice little offset multi cache that should probably be visited more often than it is.
Thanks for the history lesson! Never knew there was a Ring family, but have great respect for the scouting movement and others similar to it and the history of scouting in this area. That scout camp has been around a long time and a dear friend of ours used to be heavily involved with the camp before he passed away a year or two back.
Picked up Rodriguez the Panda Bear (First Panda Bear I've met called Rodriguez!) to move him along.

Found with TB & EH. After making our way up the road to find a better access point, we bush bashed to WP1. Then it went pear shaped as we headed in the wrong direction (note: trust the description) and searched every fallen tree we could locate.
We gave up and was prepared to make this the first DNF in almost 10 years, when I spotted the rocky outcrop and we were about 45m from the WP. Another search and finally we found the tree and the cache. The termites have taken over, but all good with the cache.
Thanks for the adventure. TFTC

Took longer than it should. Between being disoriented w.r.t. the mountain top, and not finding a suitable fallen tree, we hunted around for a while. Only when we thought about leaving to find some other nearby caches did we re-orientate ourselves, and then make a quick find. OCW Brewmaker and The Bebes. TFTC Walw
I continued on from another nearby cache. There was plenty of bird life around me as I jogged up the scout road and took the turn off up to gz. I spent a bit of time at gz checking out all the rubble before staring the count. I was lead to a place but I didn’t look hard enough. I spent 10 minutes circling around until I found myself back where I had originally been and there was the cache! Very well blended it. I dropped off a travel bug, Thank you for the cache
We had driven into the Scout Camp and parked in the carpark! Only 120m to the posted coords (PC). Sue stayed in the car and let Dan have some fun. After a quick look at the steep ascent, he walked back up the road to a better spot and climbed up to PC. Wow, there was a clearing up here, a large camellia, an orange tree, a shed and a plaque on a rock. It was an interesting place. Started the 45 paces and was tripped by vines. Started again and lost count. Don't worry, the etrex said 45m. The location was obvious and he soon had CIH. TFTC
Was down staying at the scout camp for a district construction weekend.
As it turned out, stinking hot one day, rained out the next.

A great cache. Probably the highlight of the day. A lovely clearing! Last time I tried a cache like this I ended up nowhere near GZ, but today, spot on! TFTC!
Found it ok, even though there is a few fallen trees in the area. Thanks for bringing me to a cool track I never would have been to otherwise. TFTC and history.
Found by group 4 (team Davourd).. tried to find it without clues but read the description and went straight to it.. left a whacky and a snazzy hair band
Dropped in here today for a look around and to grab a couple of caches...of course.
We first it became odvious we approched this one the wrong way,we went back and tried plan B and some found the WP.
Looked in the direction and started counting,45 was perfect but not in steps
Didnt take long to find and soon had our names inked in the log, found this cache with seaker200
Thanks Walw for the cache

Note to self read cache description properly. Wasted a bit of time at wp1 looking for next coords then doh follow the instructions. Great history. Great place. Thanks for bringing me here.
What a curious area what with all those corrugated sheeting, dilapidated 'sheds' and stuff.
A quiet walk through the area and the cache ... UNTIL the sounds of a troop of weekenders approaching.
Managed to sign log and replace before the dozen or so explorers wandered onto the field.

Heading to a graduation dinner tonight, thought I'd travel down Mt Keira Road.
To be honest, I don't know why I don't travel this road more often, it's much better than Mt Ousley.
I bet the scout warden must get this one alot.
Came down to parking area, with direct route to GZ 120ish metres.
Had to backtrack and followed the closed off road tracks.

Dropped in for a cache check. All fine, though quiet here these days with the road still closed.
Baja15 and I approached this from the near by cache, today been a cooler day it was good to do the extra bit of exercise, along the way we spotted a bush turkey, loads of birds, and managed to pick up a hitch hiking leech, lucky I felt it before it managed to attached it self. This was nice and easy to do and collected a smiley. TNSL. TFTC
Enjoyed a walk up the ring track with J+J. We were greeted along the way by many birds singing, flying over head and bouncing among the undergrowth. I spotted a large black turkey which startled me with its bright red head and neck popping up out of a nearby bush while we were searching for the cache. I was fortunate enough not to encounter any leeches. Nice container. Took lure, SL..TFTC
Tftc. Tried to come from the bottom of the park, became a no go decision quite quick. A wedding was on nearby so asked a scout hall usher where the best place to attack this cache. With new info on a trail off we went. Did not wish to enter gz but followed the bearing and guess work to get to the destination.
We had a lemon fight on the way back which made this the funniest cache of the day!

Intrresting trip.
I made my way to wp1 and got a bit confused. South east and up for mt keira? Isnt that SW?
I found many fallen trees in the other direction. I made my way back around and eventually found the cache leaning against the tree.
SL and made my way back to the track where a uni student found a deer lying on its side twitching and grunting.
called NPWS and the didnt have much advise as deer are considered a pest.
I left that place feeling a bit hollow as there was nothing else I could do but leave in the hands of the uni.

2nd cache found today on my bush walk cache hunting trip. Great walk. TFTC. Took "Swaggie" TB.
Nice easy find compared to the other two up here we found today.
Quite a long walk due to the road being closed but it is a lovely walk.
Found the cache easily and in great condition.
Took the torch as it was getting dark for a long walk back to the car and left a badge and a "Travel Racer" trackable.

A quick cache visit. All is fine, though the termite activity seems to be growing even larger around the old log! I dropped in the Lutter Tiger as I've held onto this trackable for far too long, but then had an attack of the guilts as visitation is not that high in this location. Especially with Mt Keira Rd currently blocked from Wollongong.
This was a really beautiful and quiet spot. Snorris beat me to this one, I searched around the location of the old shack and she read the description! That'll teach me not to read the description. TFTC.

Finally found the right way in! Very interesting area. Would have loved to continue up the hill to see where it led but time was getting away from us. Might come back for some more exploring another day. TNLN SL TFTC
The termites have well and truly absorbed the old container, hopefully the new one will avoid the same fate.
Cache check following a couple of DNFs. The cache was hidden under the log, and I am confident it is still there. However, the termites have covered it rather thoroughly while taking over the fallen tree (ie under about 40-50cm of termite mound!!!).
I'm back here in early May so will replace it then. In the meantime, temporarily disabling until the 6th of May.
best wishes,
Wal

Looked all around GZ but couldn't find it. Maybe I didn't look in the right places? Had to abandon the search because we got attacked by leeches and it was raining too
A bit off track to start with but eventually found GZ - but unfortunatley could not locate cache. Looked up/down, inside, under but no luck.
What a sensational place I want to live here. After watching two lyre birds put on a wonderful display of mimicry and dancing moved up the hill to find another one doing its best to impress. Found the cache with a lucky look.

Found the aforementioned termite mound but with little sign of drilling, it was obvious "home renovations" had taken place. After some fruitless searching for a new hidey hole and just about to phone a friend, one last attempt with a "size" in mind finally proved successful.
After not finding this one when it was hidden inside a termite mound, I thought I would finally get back to this one. Thanks fluffyfish for making it more accessible. TFTC!
Wow, finally able to put this one to bed. Thanks Fluffyfish for the rediscovery effort and rehiding. Certainly simpler now that it is out from underneath the termite mound. Thanks for a cool cache and a hidden history gem in Wollongong.
Thanks very much Fluffyfish!
A quick Sundary arvo visit, wow things have changed! The plaque is hidden by the ferns, so I've modified the instructions to suit this. The cache container has been replaced, now with new log book and swaps and a couple of TBs.

Well what can I say. This was the most fun I had in ages. I was planning a days caching on the escarpment but this was my second stop and I didn't go any further. I found this cache over a year ago and I remember it fondly. I saw all the DNF's and I thought maybe they were confused. I myself almost DNF this one but eventually I grabbed it. So I sort of remembered where it was and thought I will grab the trackable and find the cache. First port of call was the plaque. Well it is there. Go about 7 paces from the camelia tree towards the ferns should do it. Not that you actually need to find the plaque to head towards the cache (and yes I reckon the direction is wrong - head towards the the South East).
So off I went to my remembered GZ. When I got there nothing seemed that familar but reading the log of the last find and my memories pointed to a termite mound! So using a leatherman I hacked into the termite mound. They are very strong! I was getting discouraged and sore hands when I found a bit of wood. Was this the cache covering? Under 10 cm of termite mound? Now it was a real exploration. Could I find the cache? I felt like I was 8 years old again on the farm where I grew up. Just out having fun! Jump forward about an hour of digging and I think I have found the cache covering but it was taking ages to get out. Then I remembered I had some tools in the car! Yes. With a broader range of hand tools, I made much faster progress. I even drilled a test hole to determine if there was dirt behind the wood I was digging around. A hammer and screw driver did the trick and dirt and wood was flying everywhere. After removing lots of the cache cover, no cache was revealed. I was disheartened and almost left. But there was more digging to be done so I continued on deeper and further. AND THEN I FOUND IT. Just a peek of plastic in the termite mound. Wow! Another 15 minutes of digging was required to remove it as the cache was part of the mound. I opened it up to find it in tact but full of water. But mission accomplished. Coin retrieved and cache relocated to where the termites haven't been yet. I didn't have much paper so left a small sheet for a temporary log. When the old log is dried out, I will place in a new one and the old one too.
SO COME AND FIND IT!
Awesome fun. In the top 3 geocaching experiences I have had.
BTW apologies to the termites....

The area has become quite overgrown and agree with previous loggers that a plaque was no where to be found (though a dubious post with rusted bolts suggested a plaque may have existed.
Also, it seems the plaque would have been facing away from Mt Keira, causing you to face SE, not SW when looking at it.
Anyway, I walked the 45 paces towards Mt Keira - to the item described in the hint, but despite my best efforts, this one alluded me.

Hate to think I have lost another one.

AP Scouts at Duty Camp so decided to do some geocaching. The old Ring Farm was very overgrown and could not find plaque even with 10 geoscouts looking. Went off track around old shed and only thing I found was some stinging nettle!!! 5 hours later and it was still stinging! Geoscouts did find some antlers from the feral deer in the area.
Went to give this one a go but had no luck. The camp was closed so we walked in but we couldn't even find the plaque at the given coordinates. We'll head back another day, possibly after we see someone else has been successful since our try.

Took a long tome to find, I just caught a glimpse of the corner it looks like the whiteants had buried it. I had to dig it out with a stick. Should be easier to get now. Left Geocoin.
Last find on a long day. Good to finish with a good one. Agree with campassreading that giving the history of the area adds to the enjoyment of the hunt. Took jigsaw piece, left parking card.
Thanks for the extra effort.

This was one cache that we almost did not do in the end,for starters drove down to scout camp, parked
walked back up hill looked at the terrain and said no way back to car to work out wear we went wrong.
Geo wife complains about something biteing her look at her neck thinking it was a squashed mozzie until
I touched it and it legs wiggled,.....A bush tick had joined us. anyway went and found the scouts fist
aid person so with a crowd watching the reluctant tickhiker was removed.,much to Geowife relief
thank you so much scouts for the help.
Anyway as we drove out found the easy track near the gate unable to locate plaque looked around
the area and soon located cache, had a good look around the farm ruins what a place to have a house...

Tbone and I headed here at dawn to grab the TB so we could take it to the USA. Sadly someone has already grabbed it but not logged there visit on the site. Oh well. It is a lovely place up there. Easy access up the road next to the gates to the Scout Park. Tbone and I made hard work of finding the cache. Took a while to find the plaque. Then headed off in the completely wrong direction! After much head scratching, we paced out in a new direction and there was the cache. It is in good condition. An achievable challenge for beginners.

After dodging heavy laser fire we dodged through the light scrub up the hill to this unexpected and delightful clearing. We soon found the plaque midst the ruins quietly a'rusting and wandered leisurely over to the cache. A tranquil spot indeed and it must have been an enchanting place to dwell in days of yore. We made no swaps today - thanks for showing us this little patch of serenity.
What a hidden little oasis. We couldn't quite figure out why the GPS pointed to where it did. Why would a plaque be in the middle of the scrub? After looking and looking for a suitable access route we threw all to the wind and just did what came naturally. Bush bash- may not be the easy way but it worked. We came upon a lovely plot of land, complete with ruins , remanants and even furniture from a bygone era.
Very soon we all headed off in the right direction and the cache was found. Of course, suveying the area, sir altaire says oh look there has got to be a fire trail up here. It's a farm they must have had road access. I thought oh good we were going back the easy way. On turning around I saw sir altaire heading back down through the scrub!!! Oh well, I could only hope.
Interesting cache location.

The cache was in such an obvious place but it still took me ages to find it. I like the location, the flowers are really nice.
Thanks for the cache

I enjoyed coming up here and seeing this place and hearing about what had happened here.
Thank you thank you!!!

This is a lovely historic spot. Our biggest challenge with finding this one was finding the track up to the site - we drove right past it initially.
I spotted the cache immediately, but for some reason the others were suffering a bit of cache blindness, but found it eventually.
Thanks for the cache

The intrepid McWiBite team trudged through the mud in the increasing rain, at first exhilirated because of the novelty induced by the past few years of Canberran drought, but the mud was unwelcome for the return to new car.
Interesting history here, but a shame about the dead furniture graveyard. We went off in the 'other' SW direction but it was obvious enough where to go and we had the cache in no time.
Thanks Walw.

Woolongong invasion trip by the Canberra based McWiBiTe team.

Found this along with a couple of others in the area, Looks like there has been some good rain in the region lately. I was double checking the compass when the others walked over to another direction to make a quick find, what on earth..., looks like an oops.
Lots of long thick grass in the area, wet too. I've never seen grass this thick and tangled before, bags not having to cut the front lawn here.
TFTC.

I had started the day all fresh & clean, but by the time I reached this cache I was getting decidedly mucky - the light rain didn't help either. I was surprised to find several sofas out here, but it was too wet to take a seat today! The direction of the final cache location was pretty obvious, although there was some dissention as to whether is was SE rather than SW. I had no idea what direction I was going, so just headed off to the most likely spot & there it was.
TNLN TFTC - 13th for the day - unlucky for some & perhaps for the McWiBiTe team too, because after 13 straight finds we had to bail on the next cache because the trail was even muddier than this one had been.

1256. Very wet and muddy on the way in (and exactly the same on the way out). Once we found the plaque we saw a likely spot and headed of to the other south west, where the find was duly made.

Found it on the way back from a 'Ring track' walk. Nice spot. I have been up here many times but have never appreciated the history and monuments around the place.
