Mount Cole State Forest opened this week. (Buangor State Park and Mount Lonarch Forests remain closed still).Even though the Forest is now open, the Beeripmo Walk and the Ferntree Falls area is still off limits for now.We did a reconnaissance trip through the newly opened areas to see the state of things, and if by chance there had been any small pockets of unburnt land that might have held a cache. No such luck (we weren't holding our breath). The bush is all burnt but will regrow of course. Nature is amazing. But it will take time. At the moment, the ground is still very soft and fragile and the animals still need to return and establish their new homes. Any cache placement would be very exposed and covered in soggy black ash anyway.'Even when the Beeripmo Walk and Buangor State Park reopens, the caches will remain disabled and will not be replaced until the bush is ready to be cached again. We will continue to monitor.
The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park remain closed while recovery works continue. Will continue to monitor.
The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park were heavily impacted by the February 22nd bushfires. Both areas remain closed and inaccessible due to the huge amount of fire damaged roads and facilities.Forestry crews have commenced assessment and clearing of fire damaged trees and roads - a mammoth task. The date of reopening the parks has not yet been published, however we will continue to monitor the situation and update as more information comes to hand.Reiterating the previous safety message:PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted.Thank you again for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
Important Notice:Following the bushfires of February 2024, The Mount Cole State Forest and Mount Buangor State Park are currently CLOSED to the public. While the major fire front has been suppressed, there is still a fair amount of fire activity in the form of smouldering stumps and trees. Local agencies are still attending to hot spots, falling trees, road damage and burnt facilities, and may be doing so for the next few weeks, or months even. Many access roads to the forests are still closed or are for local resident access only.PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FIND ANY CACHE THAT HAS BEEN DISABLED DUE TO THE BUSHFIRES, regardless of whether you think it is safe or not. Any 'Found It' logs while this cache is disabled for this reason will be subsequently deleted. We will continue to update the situation as required, and will address the caches involved once access is finally allowed.Thank you for your understanding.Jo and Glen (chooknchunk)
This cache is an an area subject to fire fighting operations (22-23 Feb) and may have been impacted by the fire. It has been disabled until it is safe for the CO is able to check the current condition of the cache.
Heading out exploring and we were aiming for the cascades. I opened up the geocaching app as we were walking and found myself only metres from this cache! What a win! This spot is beautiful! We seemed to be the only ones who were here today. The photo from 1910 is really cool to see. Thanks for placing this cache here and thanks to ChooknChunk for maintaining it.
After a fun overnight camp at Ditchfields and having packed up camp, I set of to explore a few of the other campsites in the area. Some great views from this location of the waterfalls. The campsite however did not appear to be the most camp friendly of the locations. Thanks chooknchunk for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------The 12 Days of Cachemas series is now live. Heading further up the hill we finally got to the falls. Met a nice park ranger on the way up to the cache. Lots of water going over the cascades today. Was a nice sight. All is well with the cache.
We did contemplate the next cache but thought better of it on a wet and cold day. We will be back for that one in warmer and dryer weather.
TFTC 2Dudez and for Chooknchunk for maintaining it.

Finally managed to get here today to check on this cache.
Tried last month but the road in was closed after all the floods and storms.
Seems that the cache had indeed disappeared with these storms.
So it has been replaced today - all good to go.

Beautiful especially with all the rain recently. Didn't find the cache but will hopefully be back in the future
Definitely will be back again such a beautiful waterfall and very nice easy walk.
Found by Aussie Train Driver 25/04/2022, find number 1617.
This is one of those gems of geocaching. A beautiful waterfall and a great cache nearby. I was grateful for the hint as my GPS was struggling here and there are plenty of hiding spots. I was able to make the find and replace the container between groups of muggles. Great to see how much thought has been put into this one with the cache being placed beside the path. Thanks for the cache!

Having a maintenance walk with Chook. Perfect weather with more waterfalls to come. Thanks for bringing me along.
Checked on this cache today while on a maintenance run in the area, accompanied by Explorer Nan. Cache was in place. Was a bit exposed so more camo applied as per hint.
After setting up or abode for the next couple of nights we decided it was time to go for a walk and explore this location. It took us far longer than it should have but we made the find in the end.

So close to home and I had no idea of this location a great spot, thank you so much for sharing. The falls were flowing strongly today given the amount of rain recently. A FP for a wonderful location.
Wow! What a location. Who knew Buangor had such amazing spots in here. Was really impressed, falls in full flow today. I initially tried digging around in the wrong crevice, then found in a much easier location. A FP from me.
This one took us a little while to find. It wasn't covered. We covered it back up.
It even snowed a little while we were here

A weekend away, hosted by the lovely chooknchunk. Today’s guided tour - Mt Cole and surrounds.
Parked the geo-trolley-mobile and walked the short distance to this amazing location. Such a hidden gem!
Took some photos and nearly forgot to find the cache. Nearly.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache, chooknchunk

Out and about enjoying the opportunity to grab a few caches, yours being one of those I targeted on my journey today. Thanks ??

A caching and camping trip up to Raglan with my (muggle) partner and day1976, who we met up with at chooknchunk's home, where we camped for two nights.
Some other cachers were staying there as well, so today we all jumped into our 4wds and headed up towards Mt Cole.
This was a very pretty spot to have a cache, and whilst the others were further up admiring the water, myself and one of the others were searching for the cache. He was the one who spotted it.

A 5 day caching run, over the 2020/2021 New year period saw me leave on the Thursday the 31st of December and travel to the Brisbane Ranges, down to Warrnambool, Port Fairy, Portland, the up to Heywood, Dunkfield and Horsham, camping along the way. On the Saturday I met up with my caching partner, ilukaperi at the home of choocknchunk, where we spread the coronavirus around as much as we could. Enjoyed some 4wding around the Mt Cole area before making our way back home on the Monday.
Woke up,this morning at the Upper Raglan Views campground. After the caretakers cooked a lovely bacon-pancake-eggs breakfast, Micaparamedic, geoturtle37, Papi4506, ilukaperi and myself jumped in our 4wds for an adventure to go and find cascade falls.
Finally we found the falls, and this was the first one in the area. What an absolutely stunning spot, I really enjoyed this location, a FAV point from me.

After taking a seriously scenic route to get here, we finally made it and made the find. At least one of the group did as we were all taking in the lovely waterfall. Thank you for placing this cache here to show the waterfall to us.
This cache is possibly prettier than the one further up but they are both beautiful. Thanks for placing this cache here so that the waterfall was brought to our attention and maintaining it for so long for us to find. Great location.
Gorgeous first day of the year, a geoteen find, again lured there by cash reward but the enthusiasm is building now that we're at 5 for the day. Few muggles around but fair enough on such a gorgeous day. TFTC
Apologies for the late log... Out on a caching day for the long weekend. This one was our next on the list. So we rocked up at the car park and soon after a nice easy walk we were within earshot of the falls. After having a look at them, we went to find the cache. GPS wasn’t much good but the hint was and so the cache was found easy. Signed and returned TFTC, was goi to go up for the next one but was with the geo-grandma so my e another time...

It was only a few weekends ago I was out this way, spending a night camping with some workmates at Middle Creek campground. I was hoping then for a two night stay, so I could go caching on the second day and some of us were keen to head up to the falls at Fern Gully, but things didn't quite turn out to plan so we just spent one night here and back home I went, not a cache found.
Then in the last week some new caches get published in this area so today being a public holiday for a horse race that I'm not interested in, I had the perfect day to come back here and show the family where we stayed and explore the area a bit more.
And so did half of Western Victoria it seems, we struggled to get a parking spot such was the popularity of the location today! And once we got on the track and seeing those majestic tree ferns and hearing the water cascading over the rocks in the distance, we could tell why this location was so popular, it was simply stunning!
Appreciated the hint at GZ to make a quick find as there were a few people on location when we were here, so glad to get the logbook signed and cache rehidden as soon as possible.
Thx for your cache here 2Dudez, we loved the area and a definite FP for the location!

A caching day with FUF009 heading down to the Beaufort area and grabbing caches along the way. From Beaufort we headed out the highway then up to Mount Buangor area grabbing a couple more before heading for home.
What a lovely short walk to these magnificent falls. We weren't the only ones around, in fact it was quite busy. When we finally got the place to ourselves, after quite some time, we went a hunting and it was Mr Tyred n Cranky that found what we were looking for.

A days out caching just taking our time, heading south to Beaufort.
Beaufort done we headed out to check out the Mount Buangor area.
After a bit if a chat we decided to go a little further up the road, from Middle Creek.
Gald that we did, the drive in was cool. After parking the ute I was expecting a tough walk. thankfully it was only a short and easy enough one.
I gotta say for the ordinary day it was (weather wise) there was quite a few people around. after we had the place to ourselves we could go on the hunt for the cache. It was Mr Tyred n Cranky that made the find.
With the rain from yesterday and today the falls were full of action.

Parked the car down at Middle Creek campground and decided to hike it up through the walking tracks to get this cache. Was an awesome walk going past various cascade falls on the way up. Spent abit of time checking out the falls. Then went to look for the cache. Slipped on a few rocks and tore the guts outta my hand. But eventually found the goods. Thanks for the cache all looks to be in good order!

After Chooknchunk's very successful event, I took a bit of a drive around Mt Cole, ending up here. A lovely little spot, and well worth visiting.
Exploring this area today and found this cache exactly where it should be still in perfect condition. TFTC and FP for a great location.
This was our stop on the way home from the Grampians. As I live near Ferntree Gully Road in Melbourne the road in his intrigued me in the past, so I thought we'd follow it today. Nice ferny area, a bit of water going over the falls after the rain. Not sure we'd have seen so much if we'd visited on the way up instead of the way down. Thanks for the cache.
A pleasant walk to the falls and found the cache after a short search. What a lovely spot, we took a few photos before heading off. Thanks 2Dudez.
I was in the area today with Beckster 22 and Rosie the dog. It was a lovely walk to GZ in the winter sunshine. We took note of the hint in order to make the find here. After taking a few photos we made the walk back to the car. Thanks for playing.
Kenare had told me how beautiful this place was, but that was without the rain. It's epic!! Tftc

Looking, looking, looking. Looked at hint and looked some more, but couldn't come up with the goods. This one is going on the watchlist.
Of all the places we could have had a dnf over the weekend, I'm glad it was this one!! What an amazingly beautiful place!! We searched for a while and found some old broken container or some sort, part of what could've potentially been a log book bag. They may have not been the cache though. I'll definitely be back again. Tfth
Late Entry, found while out enjoying a picnic with muggle family members, we had a walk to the falls, but couldn't resist a sneaky find, lol, such a lovely area, and plenty of places to explore, The youngest member of our team loved playing in the water fall, and any water he could find , this took us a little while but eventually it was in hand, signed and replaced as found, Thanks for the fun and another reason to enjoy the area.
We headed out to Ferntree Falls today to see if we could spot some Mushrooms and see the falls.
Very beautiful as always and the falls were magnificent.

I had cached in the MtCole area earlier in the year but we ran out of daylight so never made it in to here. Fast forward a few months and wozzle68 put up some gorgeous pics of this place on Facebook. I said it looked amazing and that I was going to bring the kids this week (school holidays). He said he would tag along so we picked him up early and headed out here (just missing a nearby FTF). Wow - this place is stunning and so easy to get to. Why have I never been? Will definitely be bringing people (my folks) here another time. Just stunning in winter. Adding lots of pics and a fav point. Thanks heaps - just magical!
PS - just realised this cache is also unloved! Awesome bonus!

One of those rare days that Kelly was completely free......free from work, Mark and kids! So she messaged robinyang and headed off to try for some of the great caches around the Mt Cole area.
Find number four for the day had us at a small parking area followed by a fairly easy walk up to, what turned out to be an amazingly beautiful little waterfall. It was so serene that we spent quite a while just sitting there and soaking it all in. The sound of the water on the rocks, the breeze in the trees...pretty good way to spend a weekday really...TFTC...

Visited the area on a half day geocaching trip with one half of Mark&Kelly. This was one of our highlight locations for the day. We parked nearby and walked the short distance to this stunning waterfall was hypnotic as the water gushed over the rocks to the pool below. Simply beautiful. I took a few photos but having a look at previous finder photos, I've decided mine are unworthy to post. We took some "foot" photos & I recorded a slo-mo video of the falls. Fantastic! Found the cache quickly thanks to the hint and appreciated the new container and logbook. Added our signatures and replaced as found.
Found while in the area to photograph the falls, I knew there was a cache here before I arrived and had planned to get it but I had no idea it was so close to where I wanted to be
After I set up my camera and tripod I opened the geocaching app and found out I was 2 meters away almost standing on the hide
Thanks for placing the cache in such a spectacular spot 2Dudez and thanks to chooknchunk for maintaining it for future finders

Beautiful spot, so pretty today. Spied the cache using the clue although we used a higher terrain to get to the cache. Maybe there is another way. This is yet another spot I would never have known about if not for geocaching. Caching with The Tritonz and Na'wal.

A day out was planned and I was a late tag a long. The plan was to tackle a few unloved caches, one being one day before two years in some the beautiful area of Mt. Cole. The day was a successful one, claiming four unloved caches for the day. It was a beautiful, sunny spring day that started at 8am and a late arrival at home of 11pm with some great company and plenty of laughs.
McLookers, theTritonz and myself had this as one of our targets today. We made our way to the Ferntree Falls. I didn't know what to expect with this one but I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of water in the falls. A great location. The GPSr was a little jumpy but we soon found the cache hide. Stamped and replaced as found.

Counting this as a find even though I have not signed a log - basically because there wasn't one to sign. Wish I had read the previous log before I came out here and I could have brought a new container and a log. Will attach my own photo once I have downloaded it from Pa's camera.
However this is a brilliant spot and worth the walk in even without a cache, though my knees were starting to complain as I had done an 9 k walk earlier this morning.
Will send CO an email so others can sign the log. Obviously did not sign log, nor took anything but a huge thanks to 2Dudez for placing this cache in such a delightful spot.

Came for the waterfall, and wasn't disappointed! However the cache has been raided by something with sharp teeth. Container has had one side chewed off and the contents completely shredded. See attached photo! Sorry, didn't have anything with me to replace the container. Picked up some delicious jam at the farm house on the drive back!
Found our first ever cache, looks like a mouse liked the book more than people
A beautiful waterfall and forest! Took a while to find the cache though hahaha

WOW WOW WOW, don't know what else to say. The most picturesque spot of my geocaching days thus far. Our caching friends Chooknchunk were determined to get us along with Misschief18 to this cache and are we glad we persevered with the walk and the final climb which for us was rated at about a 4 as we are far from that fit. We thoroughly enjoyed our time wandering along the path and looking at the ferns, trees a little creek here and there and listening to the waterfalls. We took 2 mins to find cache but about 40 mins admiring the falls that we're flowing really well and admiring the view an taking in the atmosphere. A magnificent area for a cache. Thanks so much to Chooknchunk for the assistance in getting us to this cache. Would recommend it to anyone. As we got back to the car park I felt something on my wrist so had a look and spotted I had picked up a Leech somewhere along the track and he was tucked under my watch strap and having a good feed on my blood. He didn't last on there too long once spotted he was soon taken off and a band aid and pressure applied to stop the rest of the bleeding. I didn't really appreciate the slippery little sucker.

I just wanted to let people like myself know that this cache to me was a far bit more than the terrain rating stated but with the help of friends and my husband I was able to achieve this cache and enjoy the surroundings at this picturesque spot. Well worth the effort and the time it took us to get there. Thanks to all who helped get me up and down to this cache. I definitely needed the help or I would not have got there. Thanks guys.
Found with The 2 Wanderers during a weekend at Raglan with chooknchunk. What a beautiful spot. Took our time to do this walk. I couldn't do it any other way today. It was a struggle but with help from my caching friends I was able to truly enjoy this magical place. A favourite from me. TFTC
Carrying the travelbug "Bigfoot" who's mission is to visit forests around the world. We think our Mt Cole forest is worthy for Bigfoot to visit, and especially the Ferntree Falls at the base of the mountain. For the benefit of Bigfoot's owner, we have added the two photographs below. Also brought The 2 Wanderers and Misschief18 here today. Falls were in full flow today, the day was cold but sunny and the previous day's raindrops were glistening on the leaves. Spectacular place and we are so lucky to live in this area.
