A drive around the northern parts of the sunny coast and then venturing up to Howard before then turning around and heading to Maryborough for the night. It was Grannysmith and I on a venture around seeking out off road vehicle attributes for a challenge cache. We both needed a few so it was organised for a nice road trip. The weather was not that nice to us but the fun was driving on the tracks that not many vehicles have been for a while. We ended up clearing fallen trees and large branches on some tracks. We even collected a few stray caches as we passed. It was a fun day and we got in some good memories. Oh that bloke at the end of a unpassable track will never be forgotten Youre a road LOL. This was part of today's journey; thanks for the placement, the logs were signed and the caches replaced as found. If you are seeing this please check out, GCARTY0, see what is planned for October 2025. There is an importance in placing will attends to events. Thanks for supporting geocaching in Australia. ITS A PARTY EVENT!

dahumbug I found your cache Pete's Treasure on 9/4/2024, 1:10PM. This is my find 6527 and find # 11 today. A bit of a hike up to GZ. Once there it was a quick and easy find. A bit sketchy as I returned to the ute a different way than the way up. Thanks for the cache, mate! TNSLLN

A cache well worth its ratings. Almost dislocated my knee and ripped the guts out of my elbow. But got it in the end. And now i have trust issues with rocks. Gahhh, thanks for the cache, all looks to be in good condition!

14-Jan-22
The road to this cache is closed until the 28th January because of flood damage, so parked up and made the 600 meter walk up the track and the last 100 meters was quite steep. Arrived at GZ and the coords were spot on for me which made for a nice easy find. Deserves a favourite point for the lovely adventure. TFTC Sweet-Sour Smile

4/9/21 Find #4984

There was originally a completely different plan in place for today. But the weather forecast made us rethink that - mountains in wet weather are not generally a wise move. So with those plans aborted, it was a case of calling up different locations around and checking their weather forecast. As Gympie’s weather appeared to be suitable, our new plan was for Fangsoki, Pprime and I to head to Brooyar forest and grab some nice old caches, well for Pprime and I to grab them at least.
I am trying not to get too many caches at the moment, so slowing down the finds with a trip like this seemed like a good plan… maybe. I mean there were only 4 caches on the list for me to get, so that shouldn’t upset things too much, right?!
So we piled into Harvey the CRV, who I was assured would cope with today’s roads just fine.
Now the previous road was interesting, and as we came out of there I do recall saying something about this next road had better be better. Well it looked like it was going to be as we headed across the intersection, but then things looked like they could take a turn for the worse rather quickly.
However Harvey was in fine form, and dealt with whatever was sent his way like a star.
We pulled the car in and looked up. Oohhhh we have to go up there!! Pprime and I began our trudging, again wary of the possibility of slithering creatures on such a warm day.
At GZ there was a bit of a search before Pprime came up with the goods - there are after all quite a few suitable crevices here. And I had been expecting to find a cache a little lower in a crevice than where this one was found. Tho Mr Prime tells me it’s because he had a successful boy look.
What we couldn’t believe was the SEQ hiking group who had somehow stumbled on this cache by accident. Here?! I have no idea how that was possible!
Thanks for the cache cooroy scouts, and for keeping it going Sweet-Sour.

A little drive out today with Fangsoki and 1MinnieMoo to nab a couple of oldies in the area. A lovely little meander into GZ (OK, it's up up up up), watching for our slithery friends but all good today. Bit of a scrabble around until I found it witha boy look where 1MM had already been Red Face[:X]. Cache in good condition. Great to see an original logbook (seems name was changed early on).

Thanks cooroy scouts adopted by sweet - sour for entertaining me at this location.

Out in the Brooyar State Forest with Sweet-Sour today. Whilst I was finding the caches, Sweet-Sour were finding the ones he hadn't found and performing maintenance on his own caches.

Sweet-Sour parked his motor vehicle and allowed me the pleasure of finding a track and making my way to GZ. The GPS was bouncing around so it took a little while to settle on a direction to go in. End up making it to GZ and found the cache soon after.

The log was signed and returned to the cache and the cache replaced exactly as found.

All is good with this cache.

Find #510.

TFTC ***Cooroy Scouts*** and thanks to ***Sweet-Sour*** for maintaining it.

This was the last cache of the day and a great one to end on. After a little of a climb, helping to stretch out the legs after a day of bush Geocaching, the cache was quickly found. The log was signed and all replaced home... Well.

About halfway back down I realised I had the pencil still in my hand and turned around to take it home. Once there, what else was there... My GPSr sitting atop the cache.

I swapped a pencil for a GPSr.

This cache was part of a trip that I shared with Fairy Mother to celebrate a belated Mother's Day. Fairy Mother decided that on her day, she wanted to hunt in an area we both love. That area, hands down, no doubt about, was the bush.

The lucky place chosen to be cleaned up today was the Brooyar State Forest, which you could say is Fairy Mother's backyard. It was a great day and as normal we got lost, went the wrong way, did a million 20-point turns on narrow dirt roads all whilst taking the hardest route possible to GZ. But, you know what, WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT and that's how we Geocache!

Thank you for the cache Sweet-Sour and thank you for taking care of such a great forest. All is in good order.

#362

Heading back down from Black Stump and decided to make this our second last one for the day (given that light was starting to disappear).

Geokids were over walking by this stage however with enough rallying there were in it for one last hike.

Relatively easy hike to the top for a simple find. Geokid 3 was the lucky finder this time.

Signed and returned before heading back to the car. On to Brooyar Post Office before heading back to Brisbane.

TFTC.

I had neglected this area for way too long. I was at a loose end on a weekend off - so I decided to make a jaunt to the area.

I found some decent parking and set off. I thought I had bitten off more than I could chew when I looked up. But I soon found a path up that wasn't too difficult. I picked my way up until the GPSr pointed to a certain area.

Sure enough - a cache was found safe and sound. I signed the log and re-hid it. I picked my way down carefully without incident - despite the wet grass.

A nice little area. TFTC Cooroy Scouts.. and Sweet-Sour for maintaining it Smile

After joining in with Mr and Mrs Cantcacheus2014 on there 1000th cache find at the kings tomb, the remaining caches is this beautiful neck of the woods needed to be found by days end. It was an adventurous spotting a snake, breeding pair of wedge tailed eagles close by, a cicada emerging from its shell what an amazing thing to see. Luckily it hasn't rained as much up here as Brisbane currently, the 4wd handled the terrain with ease. Knowing the terrain levels of these caches we knew todays work would be hard and challenging at times. Parked with in 60m of GZ but vertical, seemed to take forever! We soon found GZ great hide! Signed Log made some trades TFTC

Time for some 4WD action. A bit of a scramble up to this one. TFTC, Sweet-Sour.

Doing a few this morning with the family, TOm and MUm said i was on my own so up DAd climbed, the gpsr was having a moment and led me straight past the cache.....how could i have missed it, i first found a small cave with half a dozen tiny bats inside. The gpsr finally decided to play fair and the log was signed shortly after.
It was fun climbing up here and the bats were a treat.
Grabbed a trackable 4KMT4X which i will move along.

Out with Brother Colin and co. after a spot of climbing at Brooyar's Black Stump.

Out caching with geo son.

We went looking for some not-so-often visited caches in the area.

This one has not had a visitor in over a year. Like others before us we found only the log book [which is titled 'Pirate's Treasure'. ]

So we added a new container, a new ziplock bag and a pen.

A bit of a small hike from the road but I made it and found it.

We got to it in a 2wd ute.

Find #500 and geoson Huge Red Machine's 200th find on our first anniversary of taking up geocaching! Had a great day in Brooyar Forest chasing down our milestones.

Particularly enjoyed the scramble up to this cache, which we found just fine with the original coordinates. As this is one of the few unburnt areas of this forest, I replaced the cache (ie PLASTIC BAG WITH LOG and stash note only) under a non-flammable but somewhat large cache guard, then had a good look around. Found an interesting small cave further up the hill (need to get up close to see it), but no ammo tin or discarded swaps ... TFTC cooroy scouts.

I thought I'd be clever and come in from the west so I didn't have to climb up so much, not exactly the best idea I've had in a while, the scrub was rather thick...

Should have paid more attention to the altitude hint - when the needle pointed UP I went 'oh bugger'. But a lovely sunny day in the bush and I got my exercise. The number of pirates around these parts is amazing!

04-Jul-08
Well it has taken me 4 months to get back to claim this cache as a find. Climbed up the hill the same way as before but this time in the company of weroamin. Co ords were a long way off or the GPS was lying, anyway weroamin spotted the hiding place and the log was duly signed. The climb up was easier this time around and the view was just as pretty. Just how did Pete manage the climb!!! TFTC.

04-Jul-08
I note that gerrynewgirl commented about the climb - ah, no smoking! This was a good place for a cache and it was stowed away safe and sound although I had to put away the GPS and think like a cacher to spot it. To say that I signed the log makes me sound like a wood carver in this country though. Love the effort on the cache containers put in by CS. Thanks for the cache. TN left token.

Found it ... hope you like rock climbing ... took keyring and left Chinese Coins

It was getting late in the day and there was a thunderstorm approaching from the west as I hopped out of the geomobile and set off for GZ Smile
I followed an old trail along the ridgeline above the cache and only had a short scramble down to find the treasure Big Grin
What a treasure it was too. I managed to get Pete to let go of it long enough for me to sign the manifest as the first drops of rain began to fall Big Grin
A quick sprint back to the car and I sat there for the next half hour watching the lightning show and marvelling at the torrential downpour. A bowl I left outside collected 55mm of rainwater in 30 minutes Smile

Saw this one on GPS whilst in the area, must have downloaded it some time back. Anyway I had no notes or indication of what I was looking for, GPS was all over the place and wouldn't settle. Enjoyed the climb and the view and will be back with some idea of what the cache is.

I must say Konie's "pocket rocket" must be on the grog..if it were at all possible. After observing and getting a feel (especially from the butt)from the the cache gothicia.I spied the elusive treasure spot.

When Konie had finely arrived to the gz he asked me when i had grown the beard. We were both agreed that the location and cache were impressive but both Pete, who was at my feet at the time and myself, were very scared at Konie's gruffness. I'm sure for future caches i will have to involve stealth with the big K or ...its the big walk home...(lucky it was only from yandina this time).
It was all great fun thanks to KONIES 4wd!!!
Well done scouts
