With Christmas approaching, my bathroom scales are quivering in fear at thought of the damage my usual Christmas excesses might bring. I have been attempting a pre-emptive strike on my waistline. So when Seffnjarah suggested we go chasing few lonely hiking type caches, I enthusiastically agreed as it seemed a good way to up the step count.I had a late night last night at a concert, so Seff was left in charge of todays cache target list. He decided that a Hinterland Hilltop tour was in order - and selected a number of the Gold Coast Hinterland's finest hills for us to climb.Having already climbed our first hill at Tomewin, and followed up with a walk up Currumbin Creek past Cougal Cascades to the old sammill, we now stopped here to collect this older multi. We somehow managed to stop just short of the obvious entry point to the bushland and retreated about 100m down the road to another safe parking area. From here, we bush bashed about 160 m down the hill, crossing a small creek before climbing up the other side to the first waypoint and a lovely fire trail! Having collected the clue, we headed down the trail to the final. With the trails here not being on our maps, we were a little uncertain of which path to follow, but with some logic we got there and chose the right trail. It was certainly a hilly trail. Up and down - these hinterland hills are the gift that just keeps giving. Eventually, we arrived at the final and made the quick find. Unfortunately, the container was full to the brim and the logbook saturated and unusable. We were not carrying a spare logbook, so please accept my photo as proof of our visit and find. More hills on the way back. Rather than retrace our bush bashing, we decided to follow the fire trail to the road, where we discovered how close we were to starting at the right spot. Many thanks Gur and Cale-d. Pete#8,126 @ [09:41]

The first event I attended, back in 2008, was hosted by CaleD. It would make sense I'd have found all his hides, and I'm just unsure if I have. I'm happy to convince myself this is the last such remaining that is findable, and yet unfound by me.

And I'm not sure why I never found it. Maybe the name had me thinking it'd be a significant off-track adventure or something. But reasonably recently, after it was adopted, I noticed it probably wasn't that bad and I should just do it when I'm next available. That turned out to be today.

Getting outdoors was much needed today. I finally forced the motivation and drove down here to the Gold Coast with the express intent of finding this geocache. It's the last unfound pre-2010 Queensland geocache for me south of home.

Following Google Maps, I arrived on the side of a hill, near a good looking entry point. I had no clue if it was the right track, but I also didn't mind if the walk was a bit longer than strictly required. It turned out to be fine, despite heading the wrong direction initially. And I had no map to confirm until I was walking. And it was no drama getting to the first waypoint.

I didn't take too long to find the waypoint all tucked away. It was oddly crammed with swaps, so I took them with to add to the final. With the final location noted though, I pondered how to get there.

With no tracks on my map, I decided to head downhill on track, assuming it might bend across the gully and towards the final location. Despite going down a lot, and getting to the creek, it came to a dead end. I had to retrace steps back to the first waypoint.

So there's a lesson for all that follow, after the waypoint, retrace your steps for a little bit to go the right direction. Once I was doing this, it was clear I was now definitely on the right track. The down and ups others have mentioned came to be. Though, I noted in the gully is good opportunity for a waterfall during heavy rain. It's dry today though.

Near the final GZ, my phone was pointing off to the left, but the hint lead me true and to a very quick find. The container is pretty sad - seems to be original and not maintained nor replaced for many years. Inside is still soggy and the log unuseable. I snapped a photo instead and pondered how to get back to the road.

Upwards, perhaps? I started up the trail, but no trespassing signs meant I doubled back simply the way I came. After all it was a nice walk. I can't recall the last time I did a multicache and I very much needed a dose of outdoors today. Thanks for this geocache CaleD, and Gur for adopting Smile

Out for a little leg stretch and decided to head here on the way to Tweed Heads - it's a walk, it's old, it's not in the city. I'm in. Took zero effort to talk T4mmmy in for a little walk and so off up the roads we went. Found a park - apparently not quite far enough up, so we followed a wallaby trail to WP1 - quick find there and it was track all the way to GZ form there. And track all the way back to the road too. Bit of wet around, but the tracks were all good and the walk was just what the doctor has ordered. Thanks CaleD, and Gur.

Thanks Gurthewanderer for entertaining me at this location.

Nice walk and an excellent cache. Unfortunately the box was half full of water and the log is rotten. Also found a ziplock bag with what looks like another rotted logbook lying on the ground nearby. I had no spares with me so some maintenance will be needed. Totally worth it though for an awesome cache

I was staying on the Goldie for a few days and looking for caches to target. This one appeared as one of the "oldest 1000 active" in Queensland that I hadn't found.

I had read the previous logs and decided that, at my age, I should have company to attempt it. I put out a call and Aussie Liahona, DiamondJ and E_Smiley put up their hands.

As it turned out the weather was a bit inclement but it was decided that it was not going to deter us.

We met at the gate and donned wet weather clothing. Following previous logs, we kept to the fire trail and soon found us in the area of the waypoint. Aussie Liahona and I headed in to where my GPS was indicating and the others were searching an area on the other side of the fire trail when they gave a call that they had found it. They were 20m away from where were heading.

We gathered the required information and then headed back (again following previous logs) to the fork and headed down the new trail. I think the rain actually helped us keep our footing on the steeper sections as it had washed off all the loose soil and leaves leaving solid rock for our boots to grip on to.

After a few ups and downs we arrived at a spot where my GPS was indicating 50m in "that" direction while e_Smiley was indicating that we still had 400m to go in "that" direction. We decided to check out my spot first and searched an obvious spot as we approached. We found the cache in there. The GPS was still indicating 20m on the other side of the track.

With the heavy overcast and the rain the GPS my not have been too accurate and we may have been lucky.

We then headed up and down the trail back to the car and it was still raining and we looked like 5 drowned rats but with large smiles on our face for a great adventure with great friends.

DiamonJs told Mr Rusty85 that this walk was on and he then came home asking for more of those, what else can I say, great cache. TFTC

24-Feb-20
I was asked would I be interested, you bet, I had tried it once before but we went wrong way. Today we had additional info and to my hubby Mr Rusty85 it was an easy find..... hmmm in pouring rain up and down and...... he was disappointed we didn't have to go the last hill. Fabulous day with a great group. TFTC and a fav from me.

Was invited to this walk. Was excited to do it as I need a multi for a challenge cache and this has been on my list as one of the oldest.

Took us an hour an a bit from the spotted car park and back. Was about to pull the plug due to bucketing rain. Crew143 said it's clear in Broadbeach and the weather radar check looked promising in the posted coordinates.

Previous posts were a worry but we experienced the opposite. Everyone remained upright. A quick find at wp1 and with a helpful hint a successful trip was what we had. Great fun in the rain. Took photos, shared lollies and back to where we started in a flash.

TFTC CaleD. Thanks for placing this cache for our enjoyment.

Cheers, E

It’s really quite pleasing to find these unloved cashe. I’ve revitalised this one and dropped off 2 trakkas to encourage some intrepid cashers out.

Found this one with Quesera while we were down the Gold Coast dropping my Brother off at a Judo Championship, after finding way point one without difficulty we set off for way point 2 well it said 400 meters pointing straight at a steep hill with a valley and another steep hill but we made it only to find the fire trail went around that way anyway oh well. We looked for a while at GZ then Quesera's eagle eyes stopped something away from where we were looking yay the cache. Tftc in this lovely spot, shoes with good grip and a good level of fitness would be beneficial for this one

found. yipee. Sharpem and I dropped her brother off at judo championships nearby and i had seen this unloved cache and said i really want to find this for 3 reasons. 1 for being unloved. 2 for starting with c for our march challenge and 3 because i want to train for climbing a volcano next month. This definitely met all 3 . At first waypoint i said that was easy and not far to go. Probably no good for the training i want to do (steep hills). Boy i was wrong. Very steep hills were ahead. Off to final and we did leave the firetrail and went up very steep hill. When we finally got to gz we walked around on one side of the track for ages before i ventured off to other side and spotted the cache, uncovered but in where hint said.yipee. the cache was wet and i had new zip lock bag to place the very wet log book in. We happily followed the fire trail back and wow those hills were fantastic and some great views.Great for my training and I was happy i was able to do this with a still alot of effort but ok. We did this in 1 hour and twenty minutes with a stop at gz for hydation. I will give this a fp. . Thankyou caleD for placing this cache here for us to enjoy.

Mr RoddyC has some caching time today, what better to do than be in the company of DiamonJs doing some caches around Elanora and Currumbin. We started just after 7.00am and finished about seven hours later on the first day of November - not too hot yet, and we covered a lot of different territory.

And what terrain this was. We made our way to the first waypoint in a direct line, which was just as far as if we had taken the fire trail which leads to the same spot, but only easier going. Gathered the coordinates OK then continued along the trail until we came to a dead end. But there was still 400 meters to go. Well, not likely, so we retraced our footsteps back up the very steep trail until we came to a junction. Now if we had followed the fire trail originally instead of trying to shortcut, we would have known that there was perhaps a better track to GZ. So we are leaving this to another day.

07-Jun-16
I parked on Trees Road next to a gate and a fire trail - opposite a house that had a dog with the deepest, loudest ferocious bark. Perhaps it was a direwolf.
I followed the fire trail and it led me to the first waypoint. Coordinates gathered, I then followed the fire trail downhill.
(It's best to go back uphill at this point and fork off left when the track splits in 2; this track will take you to GZ!)
The trail soon ended so I bush bashed for a few hundred metres following a faint trail. I then picked up another fire trail which took me up to GZ. It was a quick find following the hint (coordinates were 19m off for me). Cache was a bit damp so I dried out the logbook in the sun.
Then a pleasant stroll up and down some steep hills back to the direwolf and my car.
Took me about 1 hour and 15 mins.
TFTC, I enjoyed the solitude and wildlife.

Find #2100.
I needed something worthy of a mini milestone today and surprisingly this was the closest multi to home. 32.2k's as the crow fly's and as it turns out, it's just down the road from some friends. Well all I can say is I'm extremely happy I left home early. I seriously underestimated the length of time this one was going to take. Nothing real hard about the walk except a few steep hills it was just the time. I think I got back to the car just on an hour, which is nothing really but doing it before work on a drizzly day probably wasn't the smartest move. I made it to work with a few minutes to spare, so all okay in the end.
I opted to make a straight run towards wp1 from the entry of the main track and wp1 hide soon came into view from a distance. With the new numbers punched in I continued on but was getting worried a few times as the distance was getting longer but eventually the track turned then the fun bit began. I made my own tracks for awhile but soon enough found faint remnants of an old one. Mother nature is doing a really great job of taking back over along here.
It was muggy as hell down here this morning and by the time I reached another main track I was sweating like pig. The co-ords had me a little lower then I thought so I wandered around checking a few spots to match the hint and bingo.
Log signed and replaced as found, now it's time to get the heck out of here. Thanx again Caled

Out and about for my daily find ... and today is a milestone day ... 400 days straight, finding a cache a day. Cool
I soon found a parking spot but the track headed the wrong way but I stuck to the tracks and it soon turned around. A bit of a search before find the WP uncovered. Surprised I added a bit of cover before leaving.
So off to the final. It does get a little steep doesn't it. Razz
After a bit of searching I went to the hint ... ahhh ... over there. This time, the cache could be seen from a distance. Also it had a bit of water in it but the new log book is ok. Smile
I did a little bit of maintenance, drying everything out before replacing and adding some cover. Big Grin
I found the cache about 25m out and took some co-ords.
These corrections should help locate the final. S -0.001 & E -0.015
Thanks for the cache.

A cache here a cache there as I manoeuvre myself towards 1500 whilst finding more multis and puzzles and higher difficulty and terrain caches. This one was a relatively straight forward multi a few quite steep sections and an overall pleasant walk in the bush. Thanks CaleD.

I inexplicably woke up extremely early this morning and had no idea of what I was going to do while I waited for the family to woke up. So I decided to go for a drive into the mountains and noticed that this cache was sort of nearby. I didn't find the trail to WP1 but luckily at my entry point the bush wasn't too dense. So far, so easy. After noting the final coords, I found the nearby trail and followed it around, up and down. This was much more challenging and longer than I was expecting. I couldn't believe how steep the path was at times! Anyhow, when I arrived at GZ it was a quick find. Overall, a very satisfying and enjoyable adventure to the cache. Dropped geocoin and pathtag. Cheers CaleD

Phew-ee, that was a bit of a workout!

We made a few mistakes with this one. Just popped along a barely marked trail thinking that WPT1 was only a short distance away..mistake#1..bush bashing and down and up hill we finally came back to the track, the clearing and WPT1!

Mistake #2: which way to head? We heeded the advice this time and continued on the track until it petered out with the cache still 400m away. Luckily we found a bike track which took us steeply up hill in the right direction. We made it to GZ and had the cache in hand, thanks to the hint (the co-ords are about 24m out by our GPS).

Mistake #3 was to keep heading up the hill, till we saw the KEEP OUT sign and back tracked.

We were a little nervous about taking a different way back (given our mistakes to date) but that proved to be the only right thing we did (apart from find the cache) and we were back at the car in almost no time!

Thanks CaleD, interesting area and good workout.

Found with Wayne0, we followed the arrow ... took us through ravines, across overgrown woods and into giant centipede colonies! Follow the track!

Two amateurs went geocaching on Saturday 10th and turned a 3.5 Terrain cache into a 4-5 !! We should have focused more on your description and not left the trail so much Smile

The cache location didn't match the coordinates for us but the hint saved the day. Thanks to Fangsoki for a fresh logbook. The original is destroyed by water as is the old pen. Elemental6 and I left a new pen, replaced all bags and dried the container.

Thanks for the cache Smile

We had been headed for Southport. Intending to do part of the trail there but our apathy at the idea meant we exited when we hit congestion on the M1. Seeing a multi with 2 favs we got to where our Nuvi indicated we should go offroad. Only then did we read the description. After rethinking where we had parked we still liked this better than a bunch of drivebys so boots changed off we went. Found wp1 ok. Left a pathtag in case we were never seen again. Loaded both co-ords and set off using the cache owner's. Again GZ was pretty easy with the good hint even at 25m out but we must have entered the other cacher's co-ords wrong as they were 219m out. Good time of year to do this. Not stifling, nice breeze, no snakes... PINO TFTC

Here is a cache that I had been meaning to do for quite some time - but just never got around to it - due to its position on the map.

Today, I was working on the caches of the Gold Coast that I had ignored for too long. This was the final for the day. I parked up and enjoyed the bushwalk toward the first WP. It was later in the day so a bit cooler thankfully.

I found the first WP with no problems and transcribed the final (and some alternate co-ords someone kindly offered in the WP). Trust your GPSr people when wondering which way to go. Well - that's what I did anyway and it seemed a pretty good route.

All this "downhill" can only lead to one ineveitable eventuation : Uphills Sad Now I made this a lot harder than I had to. Let's just say, I ended up somewhere I shouldn't have. Thankfully I had my wits about me. I had transcribed the numbers from WP1 down wrong!

A quick adjustment had me going the right way. I came up with the cache after a small hunt. As reported previously, it was quite wet. I bagged up the old log and put it in a new container - and put a new log and some swaps in the new container. Hopefully this one will stay dry for a while now.

Despite the hills, I enjoyed the walk - and they aren't too taxing on me these days. A great area, CaleD. TFTC Smile

Cache at GZ totally waterlogged. Needs seal tight container. Logs wrecked.

What a cache to bring up the 100th find. I like a challenge so headed off with 2 dogs and a tired 6 year old after a big game of soccer. Sucker for punishmnet or what? WP1 found easy enough with minimal whinging from junior. Sorry mate, Dad was telling "porky pies", we have to head deeper to find this treasure.

HINT: Co-ords placed in WP1 by another cacher are way off. This will cause extra exercise for no reward.

Heading to GZ and found after lovely walk up a steep hill for no reason but extra sweat. Original co-ords got me to wrong side of track but clue saved the day. Cache totally waterlogged and signing not an option. Exhausted "eye spy" on the way back. Many piggy back rides got us back to the car with a triumphant felling of conquering this beast. TFTC.

This cache has been on my radar for a while. I had a spare couple of hours so decided to check it out this morning.

I really enjoyed this wander through the Aussie bush. After a crazy week it was great to get away for everything for a bit and go for a wander.

Nice one CaleD. Thanks for the cache.

The original log was wet but there was another piece of blank paper in the cache. I didn't have any extra paper on me (Mental note "put some paper in camera bag") so I dried this piece of paper out a bit and put it in a new plastic bag. I also shouted the original log a new bag.

While signing the log one of those pesky cache dwelling frogs hopped on in.

28-Nov-10
While signing the log for the river oaks cache we saw a note mentioning the nearby CaleD goes bush again. We though, what the hell it close and should be a quick find.
Not bothering to check even what type of cache or terrain/difficulty we set off. We parked on the side of the road and looked at what seemed an obvious path in. On closer inspection it appeared to head away from the co-ords of WP1. So we setoff cross country. After clambering through the scrub for 10 minutes we found WP1. A small note left inside mentioned the GZ co-ords were out by up to 30m and that we should try these amended co-ords. I quickly wrote both sets down and entered the amended co-ords into the GPS.

After 30min we arrived at a sign that said private property, "Keep Out" At this point we still had 130m to go. We sheepishly climbed the very steep fire trail until we arrived at someones backyard. We quickly backpedalled down the fire trail again until I stopped and re-entered the official GZ co-ords. This then sent us back down the hill prior to the Private property sign.

From here the hint made it very easy. The cache is slightly damp but ok. Signed log and headed for home.
Thanks for the cache and exercise.

This one has been on the radar for a while, a wet Saturday gave us the excuse we needed to go grab it. Parked by the gate and hopped over. Ignoring the arrow we soon found the path leading to WP1. Then ho-hum! now what? GZ isn't in the direction we were expecting. Do we turn left or right? We made our choice and headed along the path. All was going well until it sort of 'er...ended. Another choice was needed after nearly stepping on a massive swarm of bees just lying there in the grass. 400m to GZ, we could go bush, or go back. In keeping with the spirit of the cache name we went bush which really wasn't too challenging and after hopping over a few small dried up creeks we found the correct trail and GZ beckoned. Both sets of coords in WP1 didn't help much but the clue did and the prize was soon in hand. A little damp but not too bad considering the 20 months it had been here unloved! We also rescued a TB which had also been stuck here forever.
We then returned by the trail which actually turned out to be a lot steeper than going bush. Pleased to have found it. A nice area which should really get more visits as it's not that hard really!!! Took us about an hour. TFTC.

There's not much I likes better than a stroll through a quiet bit of the Aussie bush Big Grin
This was a terrific spot for said stroll [^]
I had no trouble finding the right track to get to the waypoint and enjoyed to coolness of the forest along the way on a sunny day Smile
The ants had built a nest around the container here and were none to happy at my intrusion [:o]
I noted the official coords for the cache and those provided by a previous cacher. To keep us all on our toes, one of the digits was incorrectly transcribed. You should be able to work out which one though Big Grin
From here the going got a bit steeper!! Down hill and up dale I travelled. But within the half hour was near GZ Razz
A quick poke around with a stick (anti-venom device) and the cache was revealled Smile
A little moisture had got inside, but all still OK if not a little musty smelling Razz
All that remained now was the stroll back up to where I started. TFTC and excellent walk [^]

After finding the old ‘bush’ cache and getting the co-ords to this one, we took the roller coaster walk to get the final loc. Our GZ had us on the other side of the track some 20m away, and it wasn’t until we correctly interpreted the hint that the cache was located. I noted the co-ords that I had at the cache location and left a copy of them in the container at WP1 in case others want to try them. Thanks for the walk CaleD and was pleased to get an FTF on the ‘new’ cache Big Grin
