13-Apr-24
Putting a frownie on this one - a hard thing for my to do considering my great x3 grandfathers name is on the cornerstone of this memorial (Canon Stack). The blackberries defeated the four of us completely. Maybe some day Ill be back here to redeem my smiley.

30-Mar-24
Found the shrub, fairly well overgrown in thorny bush. Couldnt find it Sad

29-Mar-24
Where is it

25-Nov-23
The history of this spot is both interesting and tragic. I am currently reading a copy of the book Kaiapohia the Story of a Siege, republished in 1990, which makes fascinating reading. The cache was found by Talla64 while I looked on the wrong side of the tree. Thank you for drawing our attention to this site, and thank you for the cache.

25-Nov-23
A fascinating story of a mostly forgotten past. Thanks for bringing us here, somewhere we would never have found without your cache. The bramble seems to have retreated a little. TFTC Hello Mrs

19-Nov-23

18-Sep-23
Getting back on the Caching horse..... Haven't had much of a chance this year so far, but now the weather is warming up again, time to get some in... Tried this one before, but the bushlawler kept me at bay. Nice to see it cut back, and turned a blue face yellow. Cheers!

First one of many to be found

14-Apr-23
Hard

14-Mar-23
Very prickly, bring gloves!

04-Mar-23
We came prepared, with secateurs and gloves, having read the previous logs. The secateurs were absolutely necessary. Cutting away the blackberry the cache was revealed at the base of the tree and carefully extracted. Such an interesting historical site, but neglected. TFTC!

03-Dec-22
Reading other logs, this should be easy peasy. GPS consistently took me to the most concentrated bit of Bushlawler I have ever had the misfortune to encounter. Bit if a look, but eventually decided no cache is worth being ripped to shreds. Maybe GPS has got something against me.... Cheers anyway.

18-Sep-22
Simple find. Thanks for the excuse to revisit this special place.

21-Aug-22
It was my second ever geo I was motivated after the one at the good home. A man gave us a hint that it was yellow but not where it was it was a bit hard but in the end we found it by a tree.

Very very good

02-May-21
I have recently been lent a copy of the 1990 reprint of "Kaiapohia The Story of a Siege" by The Rev. Jas. West Stack. Family members were involved in organising the reprint and this has inspired us to visit the pa site. Kaiapoi Pa is a site of great historical importance for Canterbury and also New Zealand, I was surprised at the lack of signage or information available here.

I was pleased to have my geocaching kit today with gloves in it, as the cache is now closely guarded by blackberry. The log inside is in excellent condition considering how long it has been here. Replaced as found which was lower than the elevation described in hint. Thanks for placing a cache in such a great spot - well worth a visit!

13-Jan-21
Did not find container, area is very overgrown with blackberry bushes. Lovely spot tho, very poignant

06-Dec-20
A great spot to visit but I came away empty handed. I couldn't see any regular sized container at GZ and there was too much blackberry to go feeling for it.

11-Oct-20

01-Sep-19
Well overgrown...spent an age but no luck

30-Aug-19
Pleased I shed my work clothes before attempting this one! Jeez that blackberry is aggressive. Quickly found and took some time to extricate.Awesome spot, you could definately tell there had been something here and why it would be a good Pa site. Thanks for bringing me here and of course placing and maintaining the cache.

26-Aug-19
Thank you. My 1st find, I have just started

28-Jul-19
Mum had her Lion's Cabinet meeting in Amberley yesterday so on the way home today we combined some cache maintenance with caching for the last of our Mystery of the Museum finds. The long grass was still wet so we were glad that we already had our gummies on. After walking over to GZ the cache wasnt difficult to spot but getting it without unvolunteeringly donating blood was, as it had obviously just been thrown back. A nice size container and the book from 2008 is still in great condition. Thanks for the effort involved in placing and creating this cache for all of us to enjoy. Smile

18-May-19

Came at this from the wrong way at first and nearly ended up in the stream. Got there eventually after reading a few more posts... if you see the large white pole on the side of the road, go through the gate and your on the right track

05-Oct-18
Found it was very hard thank-you to the creator.

13-Sep-18
I was in NZ once again visiting family. I am a Chch native but have been living in Perth WA for the past seven years. This was not so much of a caching trip but I managed to collect as many as time would allow. I had a real focus on solved puzzles, but managed to target other caches as we were driving past. It is awesome touring your hometown with a caching view as it takes you to many places you would not have visited before. Thanks to all the CO’s, I had an absolute blast today. Cheers and TFTC.

G’day there TheWanglers, I was in this area today and found your cache Kaiapoi Pa (Canterbury) GC1AYWT. I added my name to the log book at 8:52 am on 13 September 2018. A huge thanks to you for placing this cache here for us (and others) to find!

This cache find brings our total find count to 10010. Woohoo!!

07-Jul-17
Easy find with Wurzel'47, great sized container, we placed it as hint suggests - - found at GL, luckily not affected by wet or damp. TFTC Cool Wish the people invested with maintenance here, would actually do their job. Such a shame a historic site is looking so sad.

07-Jul-17
Out with Busy Paws found at GL put more as hint says TFTC Smile

Needed to grab my cache(s) for the day, but I'd been quite busy catching up with stuff at home given I'd been out all day the day before caching!! So I decided not to spend too long caching today, and just find a few.

After finding a couple other caches, came out here for this one. It's been on my list for ages, but I never really came past here in daylight hours!! And wasn't sure what I'd come across in the 100m from the road!

Came today then, and it was a nice easy find. Unfortunately the area looks quite unmaintained and unvisited! Cachers are probably the only ones who ever come here!!

Consec caching day # 1409

TFTC!! Smile
