No sign of a cache at GZ just a host of extremely agitated seagulls and nests full of eggs.
Considering the number of DNFs could the owner please check if this one is still there?
Thanks scrapz.

Thanks scrapz.
Had a good look for this but came up empty even after getting some assistance from TNGD. The seagulls came in as we were leaving and were quite agitated.

Paddled out and found the spot easily. Then spent about 25mins searching all around the GZ but couldn't find it. Even had a second pair of eyes helping and we went through just about every vine, nook and crannie, but to no avail.
I'll keep an eye on this to see how others go...

Couldn't find this one. Quite dismayed after reading other comments about how easy it was. Found the vine. Found a poppy. No cache. And not a bird in sight! Better luck next time
An afternoon kayaking on the lake with some friends. Grabbed this one along our route. Signed log: TNGD. TFTC!
Those birds certainly weren't happy about my presence. furry dog held the boat while I passed through the scotch thistles and found the cache. as previously noted, the log was damp.
I have always wondered where sea gulls breed in the ACT, now I know. Thanks scrapz
Gastank2 and I again hired a kayak and set out across the lake in search of High terrain caches we could reach by kayak. I agree with the last hider, the birds were a bit intimidating but we persisted despite their squacking and the scratchy brush. Thanks for the fun cache.
8th of 9 this morning at the LBG event. Because of the birds, 0319 went to find it and took a photo of the log book so we didn't have to be attacked by them. A very cool cache on this island. TFTC scrapz!
0319 took one for the team, as he made his way through the birds to get to this one.
seriously wow birds...
not recommended till nesting season is over..unless you really like disrupting birds..

yes I was with the large flotilla of boats waiting for O319 to sigh the log on behalf of us all, I was helpfully powered around the lake thanks to Jusajara which made the whole experience great, great weather and a great idea
thanks
thanks
Shades of Hitchcock's "The Birds" came to mind as we appraoched the island en mass from the ACT caching/kayaking event. Thankfully 0319 protected the nesting birds, and us, by signing the log for us collectively.
TFTC scrapz, and tftl 0319!

Found on the Canoe caching event. In accordance with instructions, we stayed at the shore while a lone cacher braved (and stirred up) the birds. They (the birds) seemed to settle back down pretty quickly. TFTC.
Found as a team with the rest of the attendees of the Canoe Caching Event. As Mckenna and I were the first to reach the small beach on the eastern side I headed off into the squarking of the birds. Cache was an easy find and photo of the log entry is below.
Found during the Lake Burley Griffin Canoe Caching event. A perfect day for being on the water and good company as well. Much thanks to O319 for the mass logging of this one to minimise the number of people on the island. I am sure the nesting seagulls...whilst appearing a bit annoyed at our proximity...are really quite happy that we didn't all go tramping up there. A great way to round of 2011.
The SamWalkers were the last to join the mob and raft up waiting for the log signing.
As we approached we were treated to the sight of 17 boats clustering off the eastern end of the island and the whole sky was filled with wheeling gulls.
I wish I had a water proof camera to have pointed at it all.
It was a great day out.

Second island on our early morning paddle around the lake. Quick find as cache was not particularly well hidden. However the birds were NOT happy at all with our presence on their island. Recommend a clockwise approach to avoid unnecessary strife for the winged guardians. TFTC
Seaguls did not appreciate our visit. Was noisy and a bit smelly here, so we quickly signed the log and were on our way. TFTC
The container isn't very water proof and we got a nice "unwelcoming" hello from the local inhabitants.

Making a stop in Canberra - after a geo expedition through the Blue Mountains with Pprass and Robmc; to call on geo daughter who is the CD of CDNB. H-P & CD paddled from Carillon chimes to the museum where P-P joined CD to head to the island. As noted from previous logs the birds (Sea Gulls) were not the least bit happy about the intrusion - in fact you could say they were very annoyed! A fact that was easily noticed from the distant shore. We needed to step carefully to avoid chicks and eggs. The last finder was very enthusiastic as regards returning the cache - certainly more than a D of 1.5. We replaced it so it's a little easier for the next finder. After adding our names to the log, a hasty retreat was undertaken.
TNLN . . SL . . Thanks for the hunt Scrapz.

How funny was this cache, got to the island and the birds were not happy to see us there, found the cache that had nests all over and on top of it , we had to be careful not to step on any of them, Took TB. TFTC

OMG.... The great fire of 2011! 3/4 of the island is burnt out. The cache is 100% OK. Found, logged and was out of there.
You wouldn't expect it but it was quite busy near this cache during pickup. Dingy's and rowers were everywhere. At least the cache cammo was helpful to me or it would have been a nightmare in this overgrown mess. Also had a nice paddle on the lake. Thanks.
Headed over from the nearby island for my second cache on the kayak. I looked around the likely spot but unable to locate. The vegetation looks to have enjoyed the recent rain and the island was basically a weed infested mess. No offence but I don't think I will be back.
Reached in blind, and yay, out it comes! A bit scared of all the birds though. TFTC!
Went fishing, caught a few redfin off the island, found the cache (was fun) and fed a Swan called Steve.
Out on the lake today and I noticed that there has been a lot of work done here which has severely affected GZ. I think this one will need to be checked to see if it is still there.
The plovers and seagulls got all a bit too excited so will have to return after nesting season!
The second in the paddle for today and approaching the island the plovers started up. One took a few tentative lowish swoops but then diasappeared so my comtemplation about getting out changed and I made the quick dash to GZ, signed the cache and paddled onwards. TFTC!
This was my stage 2 for my kayak and cahe hunt around this area of the lake. I do not know what happened but I fell out of the kayak whilst getting out and took a swim in the very cold water. Luckily it was a warm day

Came back to drop trackables off, as i can't log the Pathtags one as i don't have an account. They wouldn't fit in the cache but, so took them to 'Mt Springbank?'...
On a canoe caching trip with Dave2, Sarah and her mum. After Springbank Island paddled here in a short time.
Cache found by Sarah's mum, Not quite a pretty an island as Springbank but interesting to see. Thanks.

Found this one with Rick, on our first kayak trip on the lake.
Took the trackable, and put it in a dry bag in case i rolled the kayak again getting back in to it
Didn't roll the kayak getting back in, but did slip on the ground...

One of a great two-part paddle in beautiful Autumn weather. A fitting spot thanks Scrapz. 32 years since my last visit to "the island"

8 of 16 on a school holiday caching run with Zoratz. After smashing 7 of SDLs Suburbs caches in Tuggers, decided to break out the inflatable for an afternoon on the water. Zoratz and I had a lazy paddle across from the nearest point (although had to avoid the enthusiastic but unskilled school holiday sailors). Zoratz made a very quick find, I dropped in a GC and off we went again….but tragedy was to strike half way back to shore, snapped an oar and had to paddle canoe style for the last half
Great time was had, thanks Scrapz for the cache

Took my mate's small boat out for a paddle on a pretty windy day as his electric motor wasn't working. Found easy and placed in a trackable. TFTC
Geofamily paddled over here from the canoe hire place after visiting the Mt. Springbank cache on the other island. Geofamily enjoyed the morning out in this area. Nice little hide and left 2 trackables for the next visitor. Cheers and thanks for the cache and the exercise.

It was a fine day to be mucking about in a boat on the lake. Not actually owning a boat though, we were very lucky that a nice man lent us a couple of kayaks. It didnt take us long to get there, and we were very lucky to quickly find an easy landing-place on the south side of the island.
Its a long time since I was on Springbank, but my memory is that the islands are very similar. Weird (the similarity I mean, not my memory).
Anyway, thanks for the cache, it was a great excuse for an unusual sort of outing.

Nice morning paddle out and around the island until we could find a nice access point.
Had always meant to get this one from the air like the other island cache but felt like a paddle instead.
Interesting spot and makes me think a nice camped on the island with a big bonfire could be cool.
Thanks for the cache.

Thanks for the cache.
A pleasant evening paddle to the island allowed us to find this cache. Thanks...
Seagulls bitterly defend with fast water skimming attacks from 85 metres out, ducked around to lee and approached GZ overland, sneaky approach not seen until last few yards, took shelter next to cache as noisy threatening flybys continue. More bonfires needed on this island to remove more feral plants, blackberries not ripe yet, might go back. Wind now quite brisk deferred visit to Black Mtn peninsula to another day. Had almost usual run in with loudmouth AIS powerboat crew on way back to launching place. Their boats go backwards with no vision!
Seaguls weren't too happy to have us near their nests. Signed log and left them to their business. TFTC
Found when paddling in Uncle Andrew's new canoe with the geoson. The seagulls have 2 active nests on the island (both had one or more eggs in them with sitting birds), both of which have been bult in the charcoal remains of the bonfires! They are near the cache but should not be a problem. Will upload a pic soon
What a day for me - getting sunburn on my legs... also the water start rough and windy make me so hard work to arrived two islands.... But so happy when found the cache and SL. Thanks Scrapz for organising the cache and hunt.
Third for the day on our Geo-paddle day. Papa Swan was not happy with us being so close to his babies, so we went wide and found a different landing site. Took Pathtag, left nothing - TFTC.
Out for a morning Kayak to get 8 Ball and - since we had the kayaks - this cache was put on the list. The boys stayed on the water while I made the retrieval. The nice bonfire piles of cut logs mentioned previously are now smouldering piles of ash. But cache location looks very charming.
Logged this one on the way back from Mt Springbank. All the trees had been chopped down and assembled into some impressive looking bonfire heaps. Took nothing, left nothing just signed the log and avoided the swooping birds.

I had a bad feeling when we prepared to go paddling for this expedition - and my worst fears came true!
There I was on a desert island with McPhan (a worrying thought in itself) and my camera was left safely dry back in the car! I would so love to have taken that picture! The one of McPhan waving two long sticks over his head to ward of the swooping lapwings while I took my time checking out the cache and writing up the log! Ah, such friendship is a rare thing - but most appreciated. This is not to say that I would want McPhan to chase away all the birds that might swoop on me :=)
The cache has been visited by muggles - actually, by the Ecoteam who were charged with chopping down all the willows. They had logged their find and returned the cache to the tree stump. Well done guys!
Thanks for a fun cache, and to McPhan for sharing a great caching expedition.

Found it without a GPSr!. The cache was actually lying on the ground and I spotted it from about 20 m away. Logged visit and then rehid the cache. Took locket, left Geolizard Geo Coin.
Found @ 2:02pm
Paddled to this one from "Mt Springbank?" - there was a party taking place on the far side but I was able to log unnoticed. Wasn't bothered by the wildlife either!

Nice spot, we spent a lovely day on the lake and yours was the first stop off. Thank you for the cache, we heeded the warning of others and made a very careful dismount and remount and managed to stay dry. Took pathtag and Geocoin and Left my pathtag and heart necklace.
After already doing quite a bit of paddling already today, my arms were beginning to feel the strain - especially as this was the longest leg that we had to tackle (about 1km). Luckily LBG was like glass today, with barely a ripple, so it was pretty easy going. The birds on the island were not impressed at us disturbing their peace & they were quite rowdy in their objections. An interesting cache container - somehow seems well themed given all the birds!
A few mishaps on return to our vessels had Gwennie1984 decidedly wet & MCKENNA doing her best to follow the example set - it made me quite nervous about my possible fate, but then I had already had my excitement at an earlier stop...
Left a NT GC. TFTC.

Well, with fighting with the seagulls and falling out of canoes this was definately an eventful cache. At least the lake was nice to paddle across.
Thanks,

Oh for the camera firstly I slip and land firmly on my bum and then Gwennie1984 had an impromptu exit from her vessel. So we had a good laugh at each other and on the way.. Do be careful of the seagulls as this seams to be their place and they flew at is and made a lot of noise so we were quick at the cache site.

This was a real struggle for me, not such a strong swimmer and probably less so than I was when a few years younger. The chop didn't help either. Thanks to Robmc's help it's done.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.
Not having brought a boat, we swam out to the Island. The water was a bit choppy this afternoon, but quite warm.
As we approached the island several swan and accompanying cygents looked up to see if we were going to approach their spot. Once on the island the seagulls were a bit upset with our progress (as with other cachers).
I then realized that I hadn't looked up to see what the size was or if there was a clue! Opps!
Fortunately it was an easy find.
On the way back a yacht came over to see if there was any trouble. Doesn't anyone swim here?
Thanks, Robmc.

782 - 9th for the day and 2nd island cache to round off a good day. Was getting pretty tired by the time we got out to this one and then had to contend with the birds as well.
There were a couple of muggles around today - this must have been before the next 2 visitors to this cache today. All up a nice place to visit and one to cross off the list.

2nd of 2 island finds for the day. The MV SolAus did the job just well enough to get us out to the island and back again.
The seagulls went nuts at us as well, but the cache was found quickly and then it was back to the water and off to the mainland.
Thanks Scrapz, a fun cache and great way to cool off.

The sun was shining and the water was inviting. We'd chosen to lilo over to the island from the closest point - making it an approximate 190m thresh through the water. It was an easy option and in no time we were ashore. The gulls seemed to be mildly displeased and chastised us with their raucous calls from the surrounding trees. Just as we arrived at GZ a paddler beached his craft nearby. Too much of a co-incidence we thought and we were right. It was a local cacher wink.inc out and about doing a few watery caches. Nice to meet you. The cache was quickly located and the duties carried out. Thence back into the water for another refreshing swim back to the "mainland". En-route a regal looking swam paddled past us - he seemed to be moving along a lot more elegantly than us. Great cache. Really good to do these type of caches which have that little bit "extra" about them. Made no swaps.
after a long break from caching i found with this mightybent after a bit of a swim in the lake. i took the sensible option of using the lilo, MB did the ian thorpe inpersonation. angry seagulls greeted us on arrival and took special delight in swooping me. eventually found the cache and swam back, carrying MB's smelly shoes. TFTC
After swimming to Mt Srpingbank and back Big Mac 2 and I took on The Island ANZAC while we were still wet. I swam and BM2 took the lilo. When we arrived at the Island the seagulls were going nuts at us. BM2 even got swopped! We dashed across the island and took about 10min to find the cache. I didn't want to make this a wasted visit. After disturbing the wild life again we headed back to shore.
Thanks Scrapz for a different and great cache.

Found at 1035. This one has been on the list for a while now, but never had the means of accessing it. Today, with the use of DJ's canoe, we paddled out to this great little island on the way to Mt. Springbank. A perfect day for paddling meant that wished we could keep going all day. Great spot.
Thanks 2 Scrapz

It was great day to be out for a paddle. didn't take very long at all to reach the island from our parking spot. We worked out we could comfortably paddle at twice the speed of walking. I wish we could canoe to every cache!
Pulled up on the bank only 5m from cache, bit of a stroke of luck as I didn't like the idea of walking across the grassy island in bare feet.
TNLN Cheers.

The final of four 'water' caches done this morning with McPhan, and a nice little paddle from one of the closer points nearby. Lots of small craft out and about - we remarked on how peaceful it was and the lake quite smooth, only to have a crowd of young teens descend on the island and all land near the McPhan kayak. They appeared to be a school group: good on them, up early and getting some fresh air and exercise, unlike my two teens.
It's great fun coming to these islands for a cache, but I've now done them all, having completed Springbank Island earlier this year. Left a pathtag - cute container by the way.
A big thanks to McPhan who brought me over this way when he had already done this cache before. Great fun, and if only there were more 'water' caches left to do. Thanks Scrapz.

That was our second stop on our canoing tour in lake Griffin. It turned out that one of our group had her birthday on ANZAC day. What a coincidence!
On our way back we had to fight the waves because the wind had freshened up. But we arrived safely back at the boat hire station.

What a glorious day to sail the ocean, but being in Canberra had to settle for a paddle on the pond. After stripping down to the reg grundies and unstrapping the board from the roof it was a quick dash across the grass trying to avoid stepping in the duck poo. With a quick leap from the bank into the water that caused splash that sent ripples across the pond upsetting some old bloke fishing in a boat. The water was not to cold and I managed to get halfway across before my arms turned blue. Making good time I soon reached the island and imagine my surprise when I emerged from the water and found an old man with two dogs standing next to the cache. Obviously the sight of a strange man wearing nothing but undies had the desired effect and he dashed for the other side of the island and the sound of an outboard motor could be heard speeding away. With that obstacle out of the way the cache duties where soon completed followed by another quick paddle.
The second cache on a water trip with Big Matt. After a wet landing we waded across the long grass and found a cache. What more can you ask for ? Thanks.

While your on the lake why not try and grab two caches so after reaching the summit of Mt Springbank, back to our transport and off to the shores of Anzac. I had the bright idea of padding hard to get up the back which was an issue as the wave swamped the back of the boat! The cache was quickly found and we headed back to the boat hire place. Not a bad days outing, 5km paddled in just over an hour and two caches found. Thanks Albida for the company!

#152 - I had been wanting to climb Mt Springbank for quite a while, so when today was so perfect we decided to hire the climbing equipment. It was pleasantly warm and perfectly calm as we ascended to the summit of Mt Springbank. The cache was wrestled from the guardian tree and processed (TNLNSL).
We took the longer way down via The Island Anzac, where we explored the jungle depths to find the treasure (T: Tankengine pathtag).
The long descent to the point of origin dissuaded us from attempting 8-Ball peak today.
It was a great morning, thanks for the adventure.

Found with Secretsquirrel-BJC.
This was our third cache today and second using our new 'toy' inflatable dingy. Worked like a dream, although it must have looked a bit strange with 2 grown men paddling around in a small craft (anything to get another cache 'ticked').
A great cache thanks Scrapz - really enjoyed it.

Had half a day off today, so I thought I’d better catch up on a few caches – wow 10 new ones in the ACT! Managed some of them today – from mountain high, to high up a tree, to river (well lake) deep! I knew what I was in for for this cache, but unfortunately, I was not fully prepared! Oh well, a wet bum for the remaining caches today isn’t all that bad...
Nice spot – why do I always go one ocean voyages when the sea is choppy! Took nothing, left a pathtag. Thanks for the fun Scrapz!

Must be some sort of record for me, using the car on consecutive days in the ACT to find caches. (I wonder why!).
Knew I wouldn't be first, so just took my time and got there well after sunrise and a nice pleasant paddle out there and back. And Yes McPhan, I did notice your new ROCKET! Nice.
Thanks for the cache and another opportuinity for a paddle on a nice lake, and to an island I haven't been to before.

1034. When this one popped up yesterday I thought it may stay around until this morning so I went to bed with instructions to CoolAid to keep an eye on it and let me know any movement. He didn't have to but he also didn't let me know about the other new one.
In a trade for a haircut, CoolAid had agreed to accompany me on the FTF chase this morning, and wasn't happy that there was another one to try. He needed not worry, as we passed the entrance to the other, there was a car parked with couple of well rugged up cachers (I'm assuming here, who else would be out at this time in this weather in the dark?) heading up the hill. Hmmm, do we try and out sprint them, not if it's who I think it was. Off to the lake then.
Very still and peaceful on the water and a very short paddle to this island. Most of you would have seen videos of people slipping over on muddy banks - I wish CoolAid had the camera on me, it would have been worth a prize. Quick find and dropped off stage 3 of my new wooden tag. (If anybody finds all 3 and sends a photo I'll arrange to have your own tag made.)
TFTC and the early paddle.
