Sounds like this one's gone... probably time to open this spot up for others anyway
Looks like te cache is missing again. I have been searching around and under the Big boulers but there was no cache te be found.
Searched all around but no luck today. The beautiful view certainly made it worthwhile!
Started early on the climb up Mt Karioi to avoid the worst of the summer's heat. This cache provided a welcome rest stop. Was well sheltered from the muggles about, so quickly found. TFTC.
Cache number 3613. My mission today was this cache. It has been on my radar for along time but the recent DNFs meant it was on the watch list. With summer coming on I felt the need to do something about it. I contact CO and permission was given that if I did not find then I would replace. So today I set off at 7 am. A few rest stops (or is that cache stops), A few mud holes negotiated, Some chains and ladders as well and I arrived at GZ in just over 3 hrs. A little tired (The winter has been too good to me). So after water and food I set about searching. Sure enough it could not be found. And nor was the muggle cache. So I left my replacement. Then it back down again. Much easier on the way down. Less rest stops required. Back at the car by 1 pm. Unfortunately I will have to come back and do the two that are off track a bit. (when I am fitter and have someone with me). Thank you for the cache. A fav point from me.
Passed again on 18/11/17. View was much better. Boges had found the cache before and checked that I had placed it in the correct hide

Sounds like it's gone walkies. Disabled until I get back up there again to replace
Awesome hike today. can see why people fav it for the area!, But pretty disspointing to get to the summit and find the cache appears to have been missing for at least 6 months with out being repaired or at least disabled so we know there is noithing to see for our efforts - particularly being part of the waikato challenge caches... Gad i was coming for the hike, the summit and the view rather than just the cache...
No cache here for me today unfortunately, rather a disappointment after the effort to get here. There was a place that matched the hint exactly and the coordinates were dead on but nothing there. I searched over a wider area but no luck and no really appropriate places. I also note that the cache hasn't been found since December 2015. I stopped here for lunch and the weather was good when I arrived but then the cloud moved in and it became colder and wetter so I headed back the way I had come. Better luck next time!
When a friend told me she will be staying the weekend in Raglan to enjoy the surf I decided to stay a night as well. We got up in the morning enjoying a coffee and a great view to Manu Bay before I decided to split from the group to tramp up Mt Karioi.
After some off trail trips I finally made it up to the summit. I had clear views in the morning but unfortunately when I arrived at GZ the clouds had moved in. Enjoyed a little time before returning to the car within 2h. TFTC

Quick and speedy find as the fog had lowered, it was windy and wet, and - despite the weather - there were several muggles around. Sadly we didn't see the 'amazing views' that everyone had talked about, but TFTC anyway.
Very easy find, which I am pleased about as we were in a bit of a hurry so I had to miss two other caches! The pencil wouldn't sharpen or sign as it was a bit swollen with damp, so took photo if you need evidence of find, thanks heaps, first time we came up here we couldn't get to top as the fog came down and we could hardly see in front of ourselves, only went to the lookout, worth the extra hike this time!
What a great walk up here - really enjoyed the walk, the views and the company! Easier than I had thought it would be - doesn't pay to read the DOC estimated times!!! An afternoon expedition for us so we didn't have time to go further than this cache, but another to tick off the Waikato Mountain Challenge list, so TFTC Scores a favourite from me
I was down in Raglan for the weekend, staying with family who had booked a cottage for a few days. I decided that a traverse of Mt Karioi was in order for today, so I left my car at the Te Toto Gorge end of the trail and arranged to get dropped off at the far end. I made it to the summit much quicker than expected and made a nice quick find of the cache at GZ. Fantastic views from here - a favourite point added! TFTC!

The weather was perfect for the hike to the summit of Mt Karioi. Found this cache fairly quick after taking in the views and having a feed. TFTC!
We made it to the top and found Kyb3r's 1000th cache!! The mission was completed. Except for the long walk back down to the car TFTC
After reaching 999 cache finds a few days before and stopping short of 1000, we came up to find this one. A few years ago, this was the first cache I ever found accidentally and kick started my addiction. I've always referred to it as Cache Zero (never signed when I found it accidentally), it was always going to be my milestone 1000th cache, so it was good to actually name it!
Thanks guanogerbil, this means more to me than you think!
We didn't see the mugglebook however.

It was fantastic to join Kyb3r along with his partner Caseizzle on the trek to the top of Kariori to claim his 1000th find. It was particularly cool since they were present for our 100th cache find. The climb was tough but enjoyable with lots of variety of terrain. The ladders, chain sections and steep sections over roots and rocks were very memorable. The view from the summit was great and provided a good payoff for all the effort on a hot summers day. It was also nice to have another summit for the Waikato summit challenge. Congratulations Kyb3r.

Yay finally made it. This last half was a whole lot muddier than the first half. A bit unnerving not being able to see far in front of me but at least I couldn't see how much further I had to climb. Interesting rocks on the way, bit slippery in the damp mist. Didn't stick around, ate my sammie and was back on the way down. Thanks for bringing me up here. Will come back when I have others to do the other caches with. But too scary to bush bash today.
My 1700 find!
My 1700 find!
Came up via the alternate route from Karioi lodge (see "Another Way Up" GC3NP6B). We were almost 2hrs behind schedule by the time we reached the DOC track at midday, which said we had another hour to get to the summit, and we had a birthday party to attend in Auckland at 5pm, and we had no lunch with us. Had to make the decision as to whether to go on, turn back, and/or go back down the DOC track. Decided we'd come this far, we'd head for the summit at a good pace, and see how we go.
Well, the DOC track was in worse condition than the track we'd come up, in terms of the large mud puddles. Some were okay to walk through, some could be skirted, but one of them was a real shoe-sucker, as Master Jacksonz found out ! Took 55 minutes to get to the summit, and 50 minutes back, so (better the devil you know) we went back down the way we'd come up. It took us 100 minutes from the turn-off to get back down to the Lodge.
Cache at the summit easily found, clouds rolling in blocked views to the south and west, but got occasional views to the north. (Didn't see the 'mugglebook'). Thanks a lot for another great cache, and our last summit in the Waikato Mountain Challenge (GC1G9Z8). Huzzah !

Wicked views today very impressive got up just under an Hr was happy with that as my fitness isn't the best and it was very slippery and wet underfoot with all last nights rain . This was my last cache for the Waikato summit Challenge which makes it extra special yipeeeeeee
Found this one on my "Waikato Mountain Challenge" weekend. Pissing with rain....Signed the log as best as I could....WET! 7.42pm Saturday
For my last full day in Raglan & in New Zealand, I joined the Raglan Ramblers for an enjoyable trek up Mt Karioi. I asked some of the Ramblers to sign the log book with me. TFTC!
Only found the muggle book because GPS didn't work with my mobile phone. Nice views, but no taranaki today... TFTC
Left early this morning to go and attack Karioi. Left home about 5.30am and got to Te Toto carpark about 6.30am. Started the ascent about 6.40am, and really enjoyed the early morning views and the varying difficulty of the track. Had all four caches as well as the lost world cache, lined up for the day. Hopefully will be able to get back home in time for the cricket!!!
5 terrain 3.5 or greater caches, 12.2km and 6 1/2 hours, what a morning.
Took alittle while to get into the swing of things and was struggling abit up until this point. It is quite deceiving how steep this track actually is. Decided to get this one first and take advantage of the cool early morning air. Got to the summit in 1 hour 40 minutes. While having a snack and spotted the muggle book and signed the log book. Checked the clue and went in search of the proper geocache. Found easily and took the TB. Now onto the next!!
Will have to give this a favourite as really enjoyed the track.

Found the muggel cach. Wasn't even looking for caches, just out for a walk. Will be back to mark this one off, think I know exactly where it will be.
Found both the cache and the mugglebook nestled together in plain view at GZ. Popped the cache back out of view as it should be. The 2 x TB's are still there, but no geocoins.
Replaced the almost full mugglebook (another great read!) and placed back against the trasmission tower.
A LOT of people on the hill today!

Another WMC peak ticked off, but more importantly a great family day out. So proud of Mr 8 and Mr 9 (and Mr Kiwi!!) for making it to the top.
Amazing views. I was hoping to see Mt Taranaki, but it was too hazy to the south.
Introduced a muggle to caching while at the summit. She was a trust-worthy looking hiker - hopefully Waikto's newest cacher.
It took us 1h30 from the carpark to the top, and 1h20m down again - walking at the kid's pace and having several food/drink stops along the way.

was doing the traverse of Karioi from the Ruapuke side, with a friendly muggle. Found the muggle cache in the toilet with a note to return to top of mountain, which we did. TFTC
Found it easily because GPS coordinates were spot on. A great place for it. I seemed to be the first visitor since May. The Muggles book was full up. Came up from Te Toto gorge car park
I enjoyed the sounds of the tui and pigeon mingled with the pounding of my heart as I pushed up the hill. It took me 57 minutes to get up the hill using the Wairake Track through the farmland (and this was not done at my leisurely pace). I seriously hope I don't have to follow the owner up here one day at his leisurely pace Great views from the top which I shared with three other people that had tramped in from the Te Toto Gorge. Signed both log books and relaxed on the overhanging rock as I took in the scenes. Jogged back down the hill in 36 minutes despite stopping to repair my boots which lost the sole off the bottom. This is the first in a series of peaks I am aiming to complete for The Waikato Mountain Challenge GC1G9Z8. TFTC

Haha - well done guys! Yes Paul, I know what it's like dragging the younger ones up. The other ploy is to keep them talking about something entirely different to what they're actually doing and then it's so much easier!
Our third lunch stop for the day for our trio of cachers, Lostcourse, PT Jr and me. Entered logs into both the regular cache book and the muggle book for good measure. By the end of this day we had registered about 14 km and three caches. Some say it’s all about the numbers, but the question is which ones? For me, I enjoy the physical challenge, and this one fit the bill. I am proud of 11 y.o. PT Jr’s performance on this outing. The secret is just to keep feeding him a bit at a time along the way so he doesn’t have a chance to get hungry. Keep the energy levels up. If he does get hungry, you’re too late…Crash! He slept for 11 hours that night, but now he is recharged and ready for more!
While our day on the Mount with Paultaps started with a trek upto the Karioi summit we saved the finding of this cache for the return leg. Having already spent 5 hours up here on our Karioi assualt another well earned rest/lunch was had at the summit. The cache was found and signed at our leisure. We even decided the muggle log-book needed some additional attention. Time now to head back to the car at the Wairake Track trailhead. And after 6.5 hours on Mount Karioi I can assure you that I was in some discomfort as we made the car. But if it was easy, it wouldn't be worth doing now would it?
To sum up, a great day for it. Sunny but cool conditions for the walk. Clear conditions to enhace the view. Ended up meeting several more muggle groups on the trail. I can only assume they agree. Hiking really is the most natural form of exercise and I got plenty today!
Cheers for the adventure!

I replaced logbook in cache and removed the mugglebook which is now full. A very interesting read - will post some pictures of some of the entries.
I also replaced the mugglebook cache and put back in same position as it was found previously at base of the tower. Look out for this one when you're up there and hopefully it gets the same attention as the last one!

Just passing by and checked on cache. Looks like the new logbook has gone from the cache, but the original mugglebook is still there. The updated muggle-cache has also gone. All very strange goings-on up here, but cache is still all good. Please rehide and cover properly afterwards.
Really enjoyed this one! It was all about the numbers today ... 1.5 hours to the trig from the Te Mata side, with 2 kids, for our 200th cache, 5th peak for the Waikato Mountain challenge & 12,206 more steps for our son's pedometer school project. Kids were nearly blown off the top, so we didn't stay long, but great views & our favourite tramp of the 5 to date .... maybe because we're getting fitter!! TFTC
Quick find after a fairly difficult climb! We weren't prepared, just in running shoes and shorts and t-shirt. Was a semi enjoyable trek, but the view at the end was well worth it. Spent a bit of time admiring the view before signing the cache.

First for the year. Found by chance lost the Co-ords but remembered the
location and what it was under. Had a great tramp up and back about 5-1/2
hours with stops for lunch at the top and take in the views meet some
oversea visitors coming up from the other end. This was the second time
up, first about 3 yrs ago.

Second of the day out on a bit of a mission with Novalightning to knock off another of Zorgons "Waikato Mountain Challenges". Took the full hour to get up here from "Harbouring a High Point", very wet, muddy (Ohhh so much mud) and slipery. To me at least it felt harder than the first part of the journey.
Headed off early, wind finally eased and low cloud, and made our way up Mt Karioi. Total time to the top was 2 1/2 hours, Total trip time (retrun included) was 4 3/4 hours, so we were quite pleased for that. Managed to get more photo's of cloud and also one where we could just make out the coast below us. Then it was back on down, Yippee.
A quick find, a breather and soon we were on our way again
TFTC and bringing me to somewhere I have never been before.

Took us 4 and 3/4 hours to do the round trip. The last hour from the look out was the toughest with a huge amount of mud and slipping over a little. Second one for the day with Cats&Dragons.
Tackled this cache from the Te Mata track. A bit of a muddy walk up here today and rather slippery on the way down again, completed this cache as peak number 2 for us in the Waikato Challenge. The clouds were too low for a good view today, so might have to return on a sunny day for the awesome views. TFTC
A pleasantly easy find after the walk up to this point. After signing the book tried to make it a fraction less obvious but still in same place. TNLNSL TFTC
Found safe and sound. No obvious sign of the muggle book mentioned in other posts, but there were a lot of people at the summit and it was not really easy to have a good search around. TFTC
Thanks for the photo Wriggle - looks like the new mugglebook is proving just as popular! Must pop back up there sometime for a read.
I see you like my very favourite snacks too - they're so scrummy!! The carob seems to slide down much easier than chocolate, although chicks would probably disagree with me of course.

After completing the Harbour side cache, half the family went back to Te Toto and we carried onto the top and over. The cache was a easy find. Thanks GuanoGerbi. The muggle cardboard sheet was combined with the main cache. It was a beautiful day, spent an hour on the helo pad enjoying the scenery.
After being out of action for several weeks after a bit of surgery, I thought this would be a nice short first walk to see if the body had recovered sufficiently to manage a bit of gentle exercise. Was at the summit in 47 minutes, so pleasantly surprised with my progress!
I grabbed the temporary cache and then sat down on a rock a few metres away to organise a replacement - when I saw my original cache sitting there staring at me wedged against the transmission tower! When I opened it up to check on everything, I was even more surprised to find the logbook almost full with over 70 entries! Muggles galore had found it here and played the game nicely, signing, trading and leaving the occasional poem or drawing. I didn't have the heart to simply remove it, so I replaced the logbook and returned to the same spot as it was when I arrived - this will be an unofficial cache for muggles to continue what they have been doing - it's lovely to see they have enjoyed it, and it's great advertising for geocaching!
However, I have also replaced my official cache and placed it back where it should be. I have included the previous muggled logbook in this cache (I only brought one spare with me). Please sign this one, but by all means check out the other logbook while you're there - I'd be interested to know how the new mugglebook is doing!

Thank Gerbil for a nice saturday stroll, what a shame to have missed seeing the muggle book, oh well, will have to do it again one day!!
Took the route from Te Toko side, and went and done the Lost World cache first, so basically did this one from sea level, just over the hour 6 min mark from carpark to cache, This completes all the Waikato Mountain Challenge caches, bar the final which is planned for tomorrow!!

After receiving a note from cosclan and photos to confirm location looked, the cache has definately gone.
Cosclan has however kindly left a temporary cache container and log in it's place. It is a 1.25 litre "Pump" clear drink bottle. Hope you'd finished your drink earlier and didn't have to tip it out!
I'm currently out of action and won't be able to get up there for a few weeks, but cache is still all go in the meantime. Many thanks for your help cosclan

Beautiful day for a hike and views were fab, central plateau mountains and Taranaki alll clearly visible, only thing not visible was the cache. Took some photos of where I thought it should have been and confirmed with cache owner that cache was missing.
Replaced with temp consisting of 1.25 ltr pump bottle and cardboard from a meuslie bar box ( think I might start carrying an empty film canister with me)
Logged the temp with Mattyswift.

such a gorgeous day - we'd been down into Toto Gorge and the old knees wouldn't take 3 hours from that end. The sign at the summit says 2 -3 hour ave from Wairake - so we are pretty average: took about 2 up and 1.5 down. Glad we went this way - the lambs, calves and turkeys are so friendly the farmer must be vegan...Out - California poopy geo coin (it has meditated the glorious view long enough - time to move it on) but had nothing to go in. TFTC our #98 - so close...
The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
Have always enjoyed this wee walk, so seeing as the weather was so perfect today we decided to grab a few caches up in this part of the world.
In the end we started from the Te Mata side and hit this cache first, then made our way over to the lookout (garbbed the one there), and then down the chains to grab the old Hokey Pokey cache.
If we had thought about it earlier we would have taken out 2 cars, and would have left one at the Te Toto gorge end rather than having to back track across the tops.
The walk itself was supurb, and the combination of no wind, not a cloud in the sky, and the top of Karioi to ourselves made this a perfect day out caching.
+ Californian Poppy GC, - Nil.
Thanks for the cache GG.

We must catch up & have a beer GG, then we can discuss what flat walk means!, Harbouring a high point to Kairoi does include a gully! Was a mud fest up there today, but as promised great views!, The transverse over with out the return trip would have been good, but after a lunch break at transmitter unleashed a new lease of life on the young buck chasing me! buma! Still a solid 3hr tramp with great views & photo stops, Must admit tho we didn't complete Zorgons pinnacle cache on return as planned! O to be forty again! Thanks for another great cache, cheers Muzy Man - TB
on track with muzy man definitely blew a few cob webs out doing this one. Heard thru the grapevine that the track from harbouring views cache to summit was flat and that we had done all the up hill work from the western side - not my definition of flat! especially coming back but awesome challenge and well worth it. Te toto car park to summit return was about 3 hours. cheers for the cache!

Great day for a hike, it was raining on Friday and it's raining today(Sunday) but Saturday was brilliant. Track was a bit slippery in places but not to bad considering. Took me six hours from Te Toto gorge, that's finding all the cache's except lost world. I was running out of light and strength in my old legs. I'll be back for that and a few other around Raglan at a latter date. TFTC.
Fairly easy track up through farm land and only few hard climbs closer to the summit. Too around 4 hours return with Miss Five with us. Really nice views up there. TFTC
A round trip from Te Toto gorge. Complete white-out at the top, unfortunately - compared to a hot sunny day down below. A good day for walking though - nice and cool.

Great day to do this one - fantastic weather and a fun track. Took about 2.5 hrs to the top with a bit of sidetracking. No. 7 of the summit challenge, and a fine excuse for a tramp. Really enjoyed the day. TFTC
Found this one first before we headed back to the sea. Glad there were some boulders to hide behind for shelter as it was very windy.
It was great to have some company as caching is usually not a team sport. Parked a car at Te Toto then drove around the other side for the up and over.
We took our time and started off looking for a bonus cache as I was aware that 2 bottles of red wine had been hidden in the bush 2 years ago by a tramper not not found.

Early start for this mission.
On this trip were the intrepid threesome of Zorgon, Boges and Myself with a young fit Zorgonite Hayden.
Another worry was that I had to start work this afternoon at 3pm.
We planned to do the Cross the mountain trip.
We started at the Te Mata end which after my last effort to find Hokey Pokey this is definitely the easier side to start.
We had arranged to have a car at the Te Toto Gorge end for when we finished.
Lovely day with some wonderful views out over the harbour.
All up we took about 4 1/2 hrs with a short stop at the 3 cache locations and a bonus which Boges told us about. He can tell that story.
Nice easy find at the summit.
Carried on to the next one after a short stop for refreshments.
Just made it too work on time so all in all an excellent day

Always hard to get motivated for these mountain caches so pleased when Boges suggested we head out today to knock it off. A little easier than expected on the way up via the eastern route despite the huffing and puffing. We were rewarded with great views on a warm spring nil wind day under a high overcast sky.
Thanks to GuanoGerbil for the cache and thanks to Boges and Psychrn for the company.

Was surprized these new caches went undiscovered over the weekend, so, after sorting out some commitments in Hamilton headed out here after lunch. Straight up Wairake track to the cache which was found without resorting to the clue-good co-ords! Then off to "Harbouring a high point of view".
The return trip took 3.5 hours at a quickish pace.
Thanks for a new mountain to climb! This one has a good variety, views and not too much mud plus a couple of caches of course.
