Searched for this one for over 45 min - found a CD case and a lot of other stuff as per other logs, but no cache. From what the Pirates! have logged on 24 Jan 2004 it looks as though it may be lost.
Tried to find this one this morning without success.
About 50 metres from GZ we found the "Geocache site-please read" message lying beside the track. We appproached from the bottom walking along the riverbank.
At GZ we found that the area was very disturbed with nearby trees broken down , blazed with knives and lots of litter associated with inhaled and injected drug use.
lying around we found a golf ball, 2 shoe laces! a tiny toy skateboard, scissors and miscellaneous dope smoking paraphenalia.
We might be wrong but I strongly suspect this cache has been found and destroyed. Welcome to Geelong - home of the redneck!
We'll upload a pic of the cache-sheet just for info.
Sorry to be bearers of bad news.. Pirates!
Close, but no cigar (although I it looks like something a tad stronger has been smoked in the very close vicinity recently ).
I thought I'd simply check out the area after a success at nearby "Panorama Heights" but after such a gruelling trek to GZ, I figured that I’d better give the actual cache a try. Once at (apparent) GZ though, temptation got the better of me and I searched with no luck for 30 minutes . Nevermind, this seems typical of Geelong region caches for me so I'll put a "watch" on it and see what happens.
Thanks for the interesting tour carto but I think I know how to get to (apparent) GZ a tad quicker next time and that will give me more search time.

This cache was the hardest Aussie cache I have attempted to date. Thanks to my brother N for coming with me. N was worried about the terrain and I was on the lookout for snakes (afterall there were signs on the trail above us warning of snakes).
We started at the bottom and climbed up to the cache. Then after finding the cache, we continued to climb up and out of the gorge (is this is what it could be called).
Logged visit, took nothing, left nothing. The Ollie TB is no where to be found.
Ciao

Number 2 for the day. Again, I initially went to the wrong side of the river, and walked along the aqueduct there before working out I had to drive right around the long way to get to it. Then clambered right down the cliff face the hard way, and realised I had to go most of the way back up. Eventually found it. Dropped off TB Oliver in this cache. It's a great little spot on the river here.
Found this one at 11:30am after negotiating some slippery rocks i found the cache easy, was a nice morning so i sat there and enjoyed the veiw, took a mc donalds toy (Pebbles on a flintstones bike) left a mini can opener. thanks carto
Wasn't sure if I was going to do this one as I am not a moutain goat. But was egged on by Muzza and Alan-san so decided to do it. We climbed down from the top and it wasn't too bad. If it had been wet there would have be trouble.
Alan-san found the cache then I found it 3 mins later. Found at 1450. Swapped some rubber balls for a candle.
Thanks for the cache carto it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Found at 2:20pm, and spotted almost immediately – I like these one. The cache is hidden in a particularly nice area overlooking the running river, what a treat. Swapped a tennis ball for purple candle.
A fantastic spot, great view, need to be a mountain goat, took nothing left nothing
Found by Ray and Maya (The Nomads) at 3:00PM. Well it has only taken us 11 months to get around to looking for this cache. We have passed nearby many times but have had other commitments. We had second thoughts about attempting the cache when we arrived as there seems to have been a lot of work done in the area, and we wondered if our venturing off the beaten track, so to speak, would be appreciated. However, moving around the track we found a spot where we could enter without crossing the work area, and without causing any damage, so we decided to give it a try, and we succeeded quite quickly. We took Muzza's glitter pen set, for Maya's daughter, and left a Tennis Ball in its place. We covered the cache a little better before we left as it seemed a little exposed when we arrived. Thanks Carto, from Ray and Maya.
Thought about looking for this one, but found the lower approach fenced off. Didn't try to descend from above, as that would have required scrambling through the revegetation area - given the generally accepted principle of not trashing through sensitive vegetation, we decided to give this one a miss. We might give it another go next visit if the lower approach is re-opened.
Tried to access this one from below like the clues say, but it is no longer allowed. I then climbed down to the site and saw it easily.
Its in a great area - very picturesque. I took the face paint and left some glue glitter pens.
Thanks for the cache.

3rd for the day and right on dusk...took a while to find exactly where to park for this one. I got within 300 meters but after getting there I'm sure I could have got much closer. I came in from the wrong end and had to walk across the river to get to it.....found it reasonably easy considering the rapidly diming light. I only just got out and across the river before complete darkness set in. Definetly not one to try alone in the dark.. I had visions of falling on the rocks and spending the night listening to the water rush by. Took nothing left nothing.
Found towards the end of the afternoon, so no problems with onlookers. Mary elected not to try the final climb, which was fairly steep and one which would be much more difficult in the wet. GPS lead me to within 1m of the spot, and when I turned around and looked downhill the container was easy to see. Took nothing, left nothing. From the logbook, the cache has been found, perhaps a couple of times, by kids climbing down from above. Not sure if all the contents were left alone or not. Overall, an interesting visit.

Found at 11.05 along with JoMac. We have never 'bumped into' a fellow geocacher before, so we took a minute or two to swap some tales. Took puffer fish, left face and body paint.
Thought I'd make a second attempt at finding this cache now that I've got a bit of experience at using a gps. Quickly made my way to within about 15m and started climbing, but then had to sit and enjoy the view for a while, as there were some tourists nearby. Just as I started climbing again, I saw another couple approaching... trying to look inconspicuous, I again sat and enjoyed the view. They got closer and closer, and I realised they were fellow geocachers! So team Biggles Bear joined the hunt, and we quickly found the cache at 11am. It was great to have someone else confirming I was heading in the right direction - especially since the terrain here is a bit rough. I took some bath crystals and left a squirting fish. We decided to climb up to leave, and found ourselves almost right next to our cars - but wouldn't recommend descending this way! Great work Carto - never knew this place existed, and I've been living in the area for nearly 2 years!

Great location for a cache and would be great to watch the people doing the white water course. We are at home in this type of terrain so we went from the top down and found the cache in a flash. However we think the cache is in the wrong spot as it was at foot level and no rocks near it. We covered it up a bit as it was very exposed. We enjoyed some of the walks before heading off.
Nice one, Carto.
Found easily by Kevin and Meredith
The climb has some blackberries at the base and we found the gully to be a better exit route
Took a pack of cards and left a game CD

Found at about 3.40pm after an exhausting search up and down the cliff. It was far too hot for this sort of activity today but we got there despite the heat. We believe the coordinates were spot on but getting to the indicated spot wasn't easy. Climbing needs quite a bit of care and I found out the sign warning of an unstable cliff was only too true. Great location - we were tempted to go for a dip but continued on to the beach where we were originally headed instead. Nothing was exchanged. Greg and Bev
Having the hints with us would have really helped, the GPS put us well above were I think we should have been. Next time....

Checked this cache today and found it in its correct position and intact. I couldn't check the co-ords as I have loaned my GPS to someone else, but I believe my original co-ords were correct (have you got the correct datum selected, WGS84).
After recent heavy rains in the area the river level has risen to a point where part of the access walking track is under water, however the cache can still be reached through a bit of rock scrambling.
The hiding place is quite difficult, (shall we say its above eye level) although when I found it, the cache was exposed to view. I have since covered it with a few well placed rocks.
Good hunting!

Hmmmm, odd this one. The GPS insisted that ground zero was in the creek bed near the 3 old steel pipes. We reset the GPS 3 or 4 times and each time it lead us to the bottom of the creek and those pipes. We spent about 40 min looking but dident do any good. A bit dissapointing since we drove from Ballarat just to do the 3 caches in the area.....can we please have a clue? It will be a few weeks before we can get back, but I dont want to miss a single one!!

This was a great find. I am supprised no one has logged it before. We started on the wrong side and had to do a bit of back tracking. The walk in was easy enough. Saw some interesting water birds, I will have to look them up. The approach was a bit tougher but the kids made a fist of it. The cache was in good condition and in the indicated spot. Took the wishing stones and a small toy. Left two toys.
