On our way to Wellington we made a break here and walked the tawa trail loop. The traditional ones on our way we couldn't find but i hope here my answer (sent yesterday) was ok. Thanks for this earthcache

#1215. I decided to drag the family out to the Tawa Loop Track today and, having not claimed this cache previously, decided to have look at this earthcache. I had not claimed it previously, despite multiple visits, as I had been having difficulty finding the required information. After 'enjoying' the walk we stopped at the coordinates to get the required photo then carried on to read the information boards. Once back home further internet searching was completed to better understand the geology of the region and have an understanding of the underlying processes at work here. It's a lovely area and I am glad to finally have studied this in greater detail. Great to find another earthcache. Thanks. Photo attached.

Day # 13 in New Zealand on a geocaching holiday-trip covering Thailand, Australia and finally my beloved NZ Big Grin.
Made it from far and rainy South to the North Island. Today’s sunny and pleasant tour [^] took me further up north from Masterton to beautiful Ohakune [:X], close to Tongariro National Park Razz.
Believe it or not Red Face: This is my third visit Razz to this scenic area of the central North Island - but today was the first time I was able to see ‘HIM’: Mount Ruapehu Big GrinCool [^].
During my last visits he had shyly hidden behind clouds [B)], mist and rain Twisted.
But today I could see him in full beauty Big Grin [8]. How lucky I am Smile!
Of course there were some cool treasures hidden along the route, that I loved to pick up Wink.
Ended up with 23 finds Razz, including two great earth-caches [^], a challenge Razz and a multi-cache Big Grin. Cool! Cool

On a public holiday like today, there were thousands of muggles around to do the gorge-track... Wink
A lot of fun!! Big Grin Thanks for showing this great spot and for the lesson learned [^].

Hey - owners on the way up north - you have cool caches [^] Big Grin!
A big thanks [:X] to all Owners involved [^] for hiding and maintaining Smile.

Cheers from Germany SmileSmile

Today we made our trip down into Wellington direction and had a walk along the Gorge with really bad weather conditions before. This one was the only one but an EC today Wink More less easy to get the answer but not easy to go on with rain starting again! Thanks for the additional education Wink

Many thanks for hiding, moin moin, and best regards sends Dr. Dose...

Traveling together during our Sabbatical, I've found this one in team work with Dr. Dose and have shared the same nice experience as he explained.

Thanks for it and all the best!

A quick stop while out for the day on the motorbike. Love this area. Hope my answer was right as we didn't have time to stop at the info boards! TFTC

Down in the Manawatu for a day trip to visit new caching areas. The gorge caches looked interesting and didn't disappoint. Thanks markhnz for the opportunity to do this earth cache and find out more about the land formation here. The required info has been sent.

A `"weekend between weeknds" with sveppi. We had a function in Pamly last night. We got up early to make the most of the day and give us plenty of time for a long walk before the long drive home. The hike of choice today was the gorge. Parked the car at the other end and hitchhiked back to this end. Started some time before 9am, which was a good idea since it started to rain almost as soon as we got back to the car!
The earthcache was the first find of the day. Answers sent to CO by myself on our behalf. Logged with permission, TFTC

Day two of a 2-day midweek break with fanfan-77. We were in Palmy and wanted to do a decent walk before heading home later in the day. The Gorge Track seemed to be the obvious choice: fanfan-77 had never done the walk before and although I had I was keen to see the slip from above. We decided to leave the car at the Woodville end and hitch a ride back through the gorge (while we were still dry) and start at the Ashhurst end. Lovely walk in a great area. Logging with permission. Thanks for the earth cache.

09-Aug-16
Stopped by this cache on the last day of a big North Island touring holiday in Barnaby, covering nearly 3000 kms over 2 weeks and getting up to Cape Reinga in the process. We've walked the Manawatu Gorge track from the Woodville end to as far as the Big Slip, then walked back again, as we would otherwise have run out of daylight. This was our first time of stopping at this end for a look. I've often wondered exactly how and where the walking track managed to suddenly disappear from view: now I know Smile. We stood at GZ and took a few photos, noted the information required for the answer required by CO and then returned to Barnaby to continue our journey. We'll stop again one day to walk this end of the Gorge Track: I think that would incorporate the Tawa Loop Track. Given our limited incursion along the track tody this was the only cache found and, as it happened, the final one for our holiday.

Answer has been sent to CO. Thanks markhnz for an Earthcache here and a bit of information about a Gorge that we have traversed on numerous occasions.

30-Jul-16
Stopped off to collect this earth cache after a short round trip through the paihatua track, across to Woodville and back to home collecting caches on the way.

Short walk from parking to listed coordinates to work out the earth cache answers which have been emailed to CO.

Time to head home now, weather has just packed in and started raining. TFTC

30-Jul-16
Came here late afternoon on Saturday to get this one. It was a horrible wet afternoon. Quite a spectacular gorge and even more so in full flood. TFTC.

21-Apr-16
I was going to leave Palmy today but had second thoughts and so decided to walk part of the Manawatu Gorge walking track and sign off some caches.

Cheers for the cache.

That was an amazing drive through the gorge! And a nice stop at the end with beautiful views. And an EarthCache! I tried to answer the questions and hope they are alright.
Thank you for leading me here!

Vistra and I had headed down to to Manwatu for the weekend, we both wanted a high number weekend and I was looking forward to meeting some of the locals as well.

Thank you to all the CO's for their placements some nicely placed, clever and tricky hides, so a great variety. Vistra had already found this one, have emailed CO. TFTC

Walked in pouring down rain to complete this earth cache, dodging puddles the whole way. Normally the car park is full not a soul around this afternoon. The steam train went past- first time for us seeing it on our trip along the gorge. Thanks for sharing all the information with us Smile

08-Nov-15
We had a lovely walk on the Tawa loop today. Our first visit to the gorge after moving to the area. Lovely day for it and great to do some caches while we were there too! Thanks!!

Went and completed this earth cache in honour of International EarthCache day.

Kids had a blast although I don't' think they realised why we were there. What you want us to stand here, why? Least Mr Swiss was interested in the info.

Pretty sad that we saw two cars that had been broken into. Beautiful spot, great walk & someone has managed to ruin it for others out enjoying nature.

02-Aug-15
Nice day to be out and not running. Enjoyed the walk with Greenslime, then had a good debate about what we were seeing here. TFTC and getting us to look again at something we drive through frequently.

Enjoyed the walk with LCBuilder, we'd never been caching in the Palmerston North area so thought we'd get a variety of cache types while we're here for the weekend and have a good look around. Thanks for bringing us here Smile

On our holidays we had an over night stay in Woodville and we decided to visit the Manawatu Gorge (and find some caches).
It was very nice there and we did a part of the Gorge walk. The weather was great and we enjoyed it very much.
It was interesting to learn something about earth history.

After a short hike in the Ruahines this morning, I stopped for a few caches on my way down to Masterton for the night. Stopped in the Gorge and completed this Earthcache along the way. Answers emailed to CO. A lovely outlook here, TFTC!

Parked up here, grabbed my gear & made it about 100m before being confronted with a "No Dogs" sign so it was back to the camper & we headed off somewhere more welcoming Twisted

On a caching exped with Boxhill, -gonefishing- and Yeetrees, the lads stopped here while I went and fulfilled the cache page requirements. It has been a while since I was last through the gorge and today would pass through it twice. An interesting earthcache. Thanks for bring me here to view the sights.

Time to quickly stop and grab an EC on my way home from Skindos 7SofA event cache.

12-Jul-14
Hit the road this morning with Princess-Emily from a night stop over with family in Masterton. Had been looking forward to this day all week and had much planned, working up to the MGC Winter Warmer just out of Woodville.

Having just attended this lovely event we meandered our way home collecting a few caches along the way.

Prior to today we had not attempted an Earth Cache and this was our second of the day. I enjoyed taking the time to stop and have a think and then log answers as it gave a greater understanding of "why things are". These Earth Caches are another win for geocaching I reckon Big Grin. Thanks for bringing me to this spot and TFTEC

Very muddy river on this drizzly afternoon.
I use my phone as my GPS so here's a selfie of myself and a dam bridge (there may be another cacher just in the shot).

18-Aug-13
My first earthcache. Not the best day for it. It started drizzling as we arrived. My GPS device is also my camera so have just provided a selfie at the Dam Bridge instead. TFTC.

02-Aug-13
Having driven on the gorge many times it was about time we stopped and explored it a bit better. This interesting Earth Cache was a great place to start. Bit windy as we started the gorge walk. Answers emailed. TFTC.

On our way to Napier today on a sodden Saturday morning. We're new to New Zealand and were surprised to suddenly be in this gorge. With heavy rains, waterfalls appeared in several places. Since I stuffed up the photo of myself at the posted coords, I've included a photo of one of the waterfalls instead. TFTEC.

A nice quick earthcache at an interesting spot to view the river. River quite placid today compared with some days we have travelled through here. TFTC photo posted.

On our beautiful trip from Auckland to Wellington and return we stopped at this nice spot and found this cache. We found many nicely hidden containers.
We would like to thanks everyone for showing us such nice locations and of course, the numerous caches.
Thanks and best regards from Germany

We like earthcaches as normally guarenteed to be in intersting locations this was to be no exception. No one around so easy to take some pictures. (one has been included)

23-Mar-13
At the start of an expedition over the Manawatu Gorge track with several other cachers, it was an ideal opportunity to grab the information required for this cache. Photo shows just how low the river is at the moment due to the dry spell; and how bad I am at taking pictures (lense-flare, reflections, over-exposure, son's cap covering part of the picture - at least a crop allowed me to save some of the image... Sad) TFTC.

Completed today while doing the gorge walk with my family. TFTC

Traveling through New Zealand in February with the Campervan we visited your Cache.

Walked the new loop track today and saw the notice board at the listed co-ords has been taken down, so Qn 1 cannot now be answered here, as originally was the case. There are several new noticeboards at the track end of the parking area. Perhaps the co-ords and Qn 1 could be amended to make use of this location, although it still might be preferable to go to the original co-ords to complete Qns 2 & 3. Hopefully cache owner can check this out soon. Thanks. Smile

Beautiful site, very busy today... and even time to take a photo for a passing group of Chinese tourists.

18-Jan-13
Last cache on our way home from Sprint the Bays.... Loads of information on the notice boards, but not whet I was seeking. Attached photo not great , but not easy to take photo of self one handed!

18-Jan-13
On the way to Foxton for the next leg of our holiday.

Spotted this earth cache while cache surfing yesterday. Arrived in light rain, so stood in the shelter and read from the information boards. When the rain lifted, walked down to ground zone. The information board is missing, so did my best to answer the questions. Was fascinated by the walk below the road, under the bridge. Stayed and watched a train on its way through to Woodville. Thanks for the reason to stop and TFTEC.

First time ever we have driven through the gorge. It was quite impressive to see the massive reparations that were necessary after the landslide in 2012.

Got to the right location but couldn't find any information boards. The new ones closer to the carpark didn't appear to have the necessary information on them required to complete the earth cache.

11-Nov-12
It's been many years since I last travelled through the gorge and I think it was in the opposite direction to what we travelled today (Manawatu to Wairarapa).
It's good to see the landscaping and the new information boards at the parking area.
TFTC.

11-Nov-12
#4374. The new signs are well worth a stop for. We couldn't find a sign with the answer to the species question (maybe that info was on old signs that are no longer there). Anyway, we gathered some info on species, and Troodles sent the info off to the CO. TFTC.

Busy day today on the track being Good Friday. Spent some time thoroughly reading the new information boards after returning from locating a couple of caches along the Gorge Track and viewing the slip.

08-Jan-12
Found with ThePollardFamily. Email sent to cache owner.
A lot of rain has fallen in the last few days and the streams that feed the Manawatu River are flowing very fast.

I have enjoyed my previous visits to walk the Gorge Track so I was quite happy to return; this time with Netty who appreciated the shade on such a warm day. We took our time to read the information boards that had been added since the last time I was here.

24-Sep-11
Took a young friend for a training trip along the gorge walk and back. Road blocked off at the juction to Fitzherbert East Rd, which is a bit silly. It should have a detour sign there, then block the road at the gorge walk carpark. But we went around anywhere. Check the photo - you can just see the size of the slip, and also that the sign boards have been removed from the info station Sad. Could just see the digger on the top of the slip from the first lookout.
Saw a morepork on the track! at 2:30 in hte afternoon! They do get out early!
This is my first trip on the track since it was stoned, and I think they did a great job.

24-May-11
WStopped off to enjoy the view, and learn a bit about the gorge. TFTC

13-May-11
Enjoyed a quick stroll along the footpath to the bridge. Nice views of the the gorge along the way. TFTC!

NZ11. The road along the gorge is quite a feat of engineering. I loved the chance to walk along the side and underneath it. The river looks dramatic. Thanks.
