Stayed in Matapouri and tackled the Matapouri Loop/Whale Bay walk. What a beautiful walk. Thanks for the cache Cheers
Awesome hide. Container had some water in it. Log book slightly damp but ok. Emptied water and sealed as tight as we could
What a fun find! Love it! The tail is a bit loose but holding on. Great spot to look over the Water and look for whales. Though finding one is less about looking out - and more looking down. One middle has left I managed to climb Up and find what I was looking for. Lovely spot. TFTC
Our NEW ZEALAND - TASMANIA - AUSTRALIA JOURNEY takes us to beautiful places and provides us with an incredible number of wonderful moments and experiences.Occasionally we also visit a few GeoCaches along the way.The nice guy has chosen a very nice place here on this wonderful beach.... We were happy to sign the guest book....Thank you for placing, maintaining and caring snapfish2 from SwitzerlandPS: Translated with the Deepl app
Quick find! Absolutely stunning beach as well, water was too cold for a swim sadly
Find #684Found while walking Te Araroa - new Zealands long pathway from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Thank you to all the cache owners who place and maintain these caches, and thank you to all the people who help me and others on the way. Potentially the nicest beach I've seen on the north island so far. The pohutakawa trees in the sand are beautiful and a big fun cache to top it off. Took the unactivated geocoin, not sure who left it but thank you
Out walking this afternoon with my tramping club from Auckland. Stopped here for a short rest so I headed further along to grab this one. Nice cache. Tftc
Hi Coddiwompler, sorry for the delay. I am unable to get there myself at the moment, but am hoping a local will adopt , replace & maintain. Anyone interested, please PM!
Didn't find it and was looking for it long time ! Found i believe the hole where it was supposed to be (could figured the hole watching previous pictures) but nothing inside, also looked arround in every hole and such, if someone find it please let us know haha ! Thanks for the hunt tho, wonderful bay, too bad we haven't see the "whale". Cheers
GPS was a bit dodgy, but found it with help from the hint. Didn’t bring a pen to sign it, and the one there is kaput. Great hide, thanks for the cache!
What a beautiful beach. And not a muggle to be seen.
The gps was being very indecisive about where gz was, but the clue had me reasonably sure where to try.
It's a little challenging for someone my age, but I soon had the cache in hand.
Thanks for putting this here

Passed a muggle on the way down, then found I had the beach all to myself. Walked over to the bug one and climbed up. A little slippery due to the rain we have been having so took things slow. Retrieved and was soon signing the log. Thanks forvthe hide and bringing me to this special place
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked at the DoC Campsite at Otamure Bay for the next few days … drove down to Whale Bay & then on to Tutukaka … needed to do the Ad Lab out this way & to complete a couple of walks loaded with caches … a successful day … this one was an easy find, completed the log & replaced it … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #3,006 for us.
Lived here all of our lives and never visited. Beautiful on our back step. Thanks for bringing us here.
#13,117. Nice walk in Matapouri to Whale Bay. Good view out beyond to Sandy Bay. GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Found after a bit of a search. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.Thanks for the placement, and for bringing us to this site, and .T h a n k s. .f o r. .t h e. .c a c h e..M a u r u u r u. .k o e. .n u i. .a t u. .h o k i. .t e. .k e t e r o k i.
What such excitement this find was for Hawaiiki in her 1st Geocaching experience … especially in our ataahua whenua in our backyard
Wonderful cache. Within walking distance of our home but the first time we’ve stopped and taken the time to find. TFTC. Daughters were over the moon with goodies inside. We will replace
I climbed from the right angle and spotted the cache in its hole. Gorgeous beach.
Queen's birthday weekend in Northland.
I am glad I did not gave up ...
The hardest task was to locate its hiding spot. One of the previous pictures says it all.
My mistake at the beginning was to focus on vertical object but it was actually ...horizontal.
When the right spot was found it. I realized it was full of soil after (recent) slip straight into it.
I had to dig a little bit than expected to rescue this little fella!
I am glad to find it at the end.
Replaced in the same spot. Attached also wire to hold is steady in case of any further splips....
Thanks for the cache.
Nice adventure here. I had whole beach for myself yo!

Unable to find in the tree that I searched. I think I had the right one. Unable to search the next nearest tree as muggles were sunbathing there.
Whale Bay is my most favorite beach and I haven't been here for decades. In the area for a family function this weekend so had to come here get some caches and just enjoy the location. Soon found the cache after following the hint. A great cache at a great location. Gets a FP. Dropped a TB. Thanks.

Very excited Miss 7 and 9 were happy to climb for this find. Brilliant spot and perfect cache for the first really sunny day of Spring in the Winterless North. Loved fi ding the Whale Cache series.
Due to the Covid 19 lockdown & the need for everyone to keep within their "bubble", same reason as playgrounds are off limits, so are physical geocaches until further notice. Try some cracking puzzle/mystery caches, and get find the finals later, when it is safe.
Keep Well everyone!

What an adorable cache! Well done! And gorgeous beach all to myself Made this Canadian girl very happy
End of the line, and the tide was a-creeping, but plenty of time to get in and make the find and avoid wet feet. A nice hide here and worthy of an FP, good one SCNZ!
Some us time this morning before joining up with the rest of the family and with rich pickings available up the road from the bach i reckoned a Loop Walk around Whale Bay and environs would be a good idea. We headed onto the trail before it got too hot, though it was real hot anyway, and found all caches available - some crackers too. Managed to get the CANZ Northland cache which was great and keeps my series finds ticking over nicely. Later in the day we got to admire the karst caches out Ngahere Rd way and that was good too, followed by a great big Chinese take-away.
After a weekend in Wellington and catching up with my UK based mother and her cruise trip to NZ, we made the most of being up here on the North Island and added an extra 6 days in Northland to the trip itinerary. We flew up to Auckland on Sunday afternoon and after a faff around with a hire car we took the scenic/dark route up the Helennsville highway to the North. Arrived late on Sunday night and straight to sleep. We had a week with son Ed and his 4 under 3 years old children. Fun time was had and some nice experiences.

Nice find with woolwood9 today.
*We enjoyed the drive / walk around the area.*
Stamped logs as tm/ww NZ which may just look like a black smudge on plastic logs!

I have fashioned the tiniest whale yet from a recycled bottle & had it in my car, but then my car wouldn't start so in my haste with alternate transport, forgot the cache. Doh! Will try to get it out soon.
Sorry for the slowness in replacing. I have been away for an extended period, and am having trouble sourcing another suitably themed item to re/up-cycle. ( which surely is partially why this old cache has received many favourite points) So loathe to put out a boring standard "throwdown" , but will do so temporarily , if that is what is required to prevent archival.
Anyone welcome to post a note with their thoughts or "vote" !

I think I've died and gone to heaven! Wow, this is an amazing spot. I'd love to spend all day here just enjoying this fantastic bay. Unfortunately I couldn't lay eyes on this one. Only DNF out of the caches I hunted for on this walkway but being such an awesome place my frown is upside down .
Wow, what a cool cache and such a lovely beach. This is such a lovely place, TFTC
Now we understand the name of this bay!
We take a picture back home to show our friends.

Today we walked the Matapouri headlands track back and forth. What a wonderful views up here. After we found nearly all caches on our way over to the Mermaids Pool we went back to enjoy our afternoon at Whale Bay.
What else would you expect at Whale Bay? Beautiful beach out here!
