Up on a trip from Wellington for the weekend. Put in the hard one for this one after walking the blue track to the summit. Very thankful for the breeze up here after that. Thank you.
nice place, nice view-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --French version below-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Short late log but more complete now that we are back home. Our vacation will take us to the other side of the world to the land of the Maoris. After many, many hours of flying, a passage through China on the way there and through the United States of America on the way back, we will finally arrive in Christchurch which will be the starting point of our journey. We will enjoy the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and we will go back towards the North Island via State Highway 1. To combine business with pleasure, we will take regular breaks and small detours according to the caches that seem the most accessible to us.With a little more than 3500 km in 20 days, we will have discovered many facets of this island which is soothing. We will have to come back because there are so many places that we have not done . In broad strokes, the path will go from Christchurch to the Kaikoura Peninsula then towards Picton for the crossing to Wellington.New island, new road, and by State Highway 2 we go towards Hastings and Napier. We will leave the seaside for several days to go to Tongariro and Taupo. We will continue north towards Rotorua and Hamilton (without forgetting a detour via Hobbiton ) A detour to the Coromandel Peninsula and finally the almost north of the island with Whangarei and Waitangi to learn the history of this country. There will only be a few days left to spend towards Auckland and its suburbs before taking the plane back to the grayness of our European autumn. The majority of the boxes will be found, we have abandoned those where our English was lacking and where we could not understand the clue. Thanks to all the owners who brightened up our path, who took us to incredible places (that's also geocaching)In short, we had a great vacation, saw beautiful places that simply ask us to come back. We learned a lot about the history of this country and its traditions, it's a great motivation for our destinations.-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --Petit log en retard mais un peu plus complet maintenant que nous sommes rentrs la maison. Great day up Te Mata peak, views up and down the coastThankfully we got one smiley here today. Left out pen in the car on our walk around the redwoods TFTC
Fun time discovering this area. A well utilised place with many people taking photos etc
We were treated to a display by four handgliders. It was a beautiful day and the views were 360 but there was diffinately a chill in the air. Thank you CO for bringing us here today. We managed 3 trad on the track on the way down also.
My wife and I are on holiday in Hawkes Bay for the week. This was our first full day in the area and each day we try to do one wine tasting at a cellar door and then work out at the end of the week what we are going to send home. Our first tasting was as at Te Mata Estate which is on Te Mata Road and they told us we needed to drive up Te Mata mountain. Im not one to look a Dj vu in the mouth lest it Te Mata me. We wound our way up the hill.We had already driven over some mountains in the last two days so we knew it wasnt going to be a straight easy drive. Being a tourist destination we also knew there were going to be other stupid tourists to deal with.Answers gathered and even emailed. We got a lot of cracking photos from our visit which never do a great view justice. tftc
Im with German friends and they were very much looking forward to coming up for the view just on sunset, which we did. The views are obviously spectacular and add to the specialness of the memories shared with my friends. Thanks for organising this earth cache.
Fantastic spot!! Absolutely spectacular and we had a clear but windy day. TFTC!
Stunning, stunning views thank you for bringing us here. Kids loved the art under the trig station, didn't want a photo though answers sent.
Spending part of the long weekend in the stunning (if slightly cold for this pair of Aucklanders) Hawkes Bay. Always love visiting Te Mata Peak, and somehow I haven't logged this in the past, so here we are! Thanks for bringing some more insight to one of the most incredible views in the country. TFTC!
Great place to be as always, haven't been up for a few months so thanks for getting me back. Would have gotten a photo but didn't notice that until I got back haha. Cheers

The views are amazing! Worth the hike up to the top (ok, so we drove!). Found with Indiana Jill. Lots of people here today.
The weather looked good so we changed our plans and headed up here. Fantastic views from GZ.
I'm visiting New Zealand for a tour around the country . I have already visited many places on the North Island and on the South Island. Now I'm staying in Napier for some days. While enjoying the sightseeing I also visit some caches. This is one of them. Thank you for showing me the place and thank you for the cache . Greetings from Switzerland .

Found on first trip out since arriving in NZ two days ago. Accompanied by Ann, Archie,Laura, Jack, Tom and Dougal. Answers on their way by email.
Visited Te Mata Peak this morning - I drove instead of walking up, given the heat - and gathered the required information in between staring at the fantastic view.
Answers have been sent to the CO, and picture attached below. Tftc!

A visit to Te Mata peak in the evening.
Unfortunately it rained quite heavily so the view wasn’t the best one.
Still walked to the trig to try and log this earthcache.
Thank you and greetings from chitza from Belgium

great day spent walking around and up and down grabbing caches and taking in the views.
In awe of the ancient seabed matter at such a height. Too scared to go near the base jumping ramp.
Tftc. Earth caches are fab.

Good morning for this. Bit overcast and calm. We parked in the lower area and walked up red track then back the road. Answers messaged. Tftec
Had to come up here during our NY holiday travels. Bit of a cheat for once though, had limited time so drove to the top, so we'll be back for the hiking trails another time, that's for sure.
Great views from here and I always love an earthcache.

On a nice day I took an interesting route up the mountain (the geocaching app says it is a trail) and got to see some amazing views.. The answers to these questions were easy enough to find with a sheet walk around the peak. Thanks!
We came here a couple of days ago and it was so busy we turned around and decided to wait until it was cooler and quieter. Tonight we came to take advantage of the 2 for 1 burger offer at The Peak before the drive to the top.
It was worth the wait. The views are amazing, and it was much quieter.

What a view, our goal tonight was to enjoy the sunset from the Peak. Quite a lot of people around were enjoying the view too. At some point, one of us realised they were shells everywhere, he was amazed the sea was here before. I felt he hadn't really listened to the description I had given, and explained the geology of the place - again -. Answers sent to CO, great place.
We went to the top of Te Mata Peak for the first time, and wow...what stunning views! Hawke's Bay put on a great spectacle for us, and we could see for miles in every direction. Absolutely loved it, and we'll be sure to come up here again the next time we're in town! TFTC
My first cache in a very long time. Great area! Will post photo when I get it downloaded.
A picture taken at the top! Not in-front of the trig - sorry! Sent the answers though. Thanks for the earth cache and for a reason to read all the info signs. Such an amazing view!
We tried coming up on the Friday, but it was closed. Luckily we had time so came back this morning before heading north. Managed to pick a great day! TFTC
In HB for a long weekend, got left to my own devices today while my mate was at work, so went for a walk up Te Mata to grab some caches. Gorgeous views up here and a perfect spot for an earth cache. Answers sent to owner, thanks again
A night in Hasting and a morning drive up Mata Peak before heading home. Thanks J 'N' K for this earthcache
Our last morning in central Hawkes Bay. The weather has been quite summery but this morning it was more late autumn - a very chilly wind blowing down from the mountains. I visited the trig then did a loop walk down the hill and back. By that time it was time to hit the road - and more importantly, time to warm up again. TFTEC.
One of seven caches located today (not including the five credited for an Adventure Lab before breakfast) on day 6 of our motorhome summer holiday to Hawkes Bay. This was one of four on our visit to Te Mata Peak today. Answers sent to CO. #3674. TFTC.
Staying in the Hawkes Bay with Vistra for a few days and grabbing a some caches in the local vicinity. Vistra climbed to the top while I took the easy route in the car.
Amazing views from the top. I have sent my responses.

Thanks J 'N' K for the cache. It’s #1325 for us. We found your cache on 8 November 2020. What a cold and blustery day. Leapt out of the car, grabbed the information, abandoned the search for the other cache and jumped back in the car!! Temp dropped from 18 to 14 in minutes!!
(Answers sent to CO). What views we had today - such clear weather, windy though. T4tc
We were lucky enough to have a blue crisp cloudless day to visit here, and no doubt a lot less visitors now that the unmentionable virus has struck. The only annoying thing was a noisy drone operator. Thanks for the earthcache J N K.
Had a great day walking up and around Te Mata Peak today - pretty good weather for August. Enjoyed finding the answers to the questions for this cache. Answers e-mailed to the CO, TFTC
We made a nice term break trip to the East coast with a motor home. Went up to the peak after arriving at Napier before it start raining for 3 days. We did the Rongokako trail what took us about 2 hours where we have seen a lot of shell remains on the track.
Thanks for the EarthCache.

Another well presented and informative earthcache. One of quite a few that we collected as we explored the region. Completed with bkj97. T4tcsl Favourite added.
After a yummy breakfast and coffee in Havelock North we ventured up to the peak and it was a beautiful day. Lots of tourists and stunning views in every direction. Answers sent and approved. Thanks for luring us here to complete the earthcache. Little blue hen can add the favourite.

Great to be back up the Peak after the lockdown.
This is the best I can do to photograph my GPS and get a selfie: both my GPS and camera are on my phone!

There were lots of muggles around GZ taking pictures and enjoying the day and we were doing the same as well as gathering the information for this Earthcache.
