I was originally planning to "Temporarily Disable" the caches in this series while I reconfigured each of the first four puzzles (E.M.U.s 0, 1, 2 & 3 were confirmed as within the boundaries of the Great Otway National Park) and moved the caches to acceptable nearby locations. As it turns out I've spent (wasted!) the last week of my holidays trying to do just that, but am not at all satisfied with the results. In many cases the point of the cache was a unique viewpoint that I wanted to share - not something that is easily substituted. The puzzle workarounds were starting to look a bit ridiculous, and although E.M.U.s 4, 5 & 6 were in the Anglesea Heath and could have stayed, the series is pretty-much "broken". I don't even want to talk about the cursed E.M.U. 7 !
I am very sorry to disappoint the cachers who had recently convinced me to keep this well-appreciated series alive. I tried, but after the last week's effort I've decided that it's time to retire this specific series. Don't worry, the unique containers will be cleaned and freshened-up. You never know when the "caching muse" will strike!
Thanks to all of the cachers who attempted the puzzles and made the trek to the caches. I really appreciated all of the generous comments in your logs.
*** If there are any cachers who found at least three (3) caches in this series and have not yet claimed their "pathtag bonus", please get in contact with me as soon as possible with your preferred mailing address. (Now that I've got the logbooks in hand, don't worry if you can't find the "verification codes" - I can verify claims.) ***
*One final comment: in the process of collecting all of the containers today I was once again disappointed to see all the signs from our fellow citizens who don't adhere to Parks Victoria rules e.g. multiple well-worn (and illegal) mountain bike single-track created in National Park, people walking German Shepherd dogs off-leash in bushland in National Park (where on-leash is acceptable), rubbish strewn through carparks and bushland etc. My faith-in-humanity meter is lying idle on the "0" mark at the moment...
At least I got some good exercise. Those caches weigh almost 7kg, and I think I covered quite a few km of bush tracks.

Brainstorming with º and this soldier soon had co-ordinates that seemed very likely.
The commodore loved the climbed to GZ more than I would have and I was soon signing the log for this one.
No 4WD today, this would have been an interested one in winter.
Thanks for another great one in the series.

Cache #149 for us, second today and 7th overall in the series. This one I managed to solve for myself, once I found a reliable source for the raw data.
On arrival at the roundabout, the Boundary Tk looked pretty decent, so I pointed the Peugeot up the hill. Unfortunately, a large lump in the road looked to tricky for the pug to get over, so letting juc_jr #2 out, I reversed down and parked out of the way back near the road.
Pushing my tired legs, we trooped up the hill to GZ, where the find of the now familiar container was quickly made. COntents, apart from the book, were very damp, but I guess that's no longer a concern, unfortunately !
Thanks for the cache and the series Mr Emu ! Also, thanks for being a sport and leaving these out beyond when you'd originally planned to archive them. I hope, in a way, that we aren't the LTF for the 3 we got today and for the series. In a way though, it would be an honour.

02/01/2011 14:12 Found: #171 #11/23 Huge (for me) cache day with lochb and PrincessDiala. An easy puzzle once I read some of the captions and 'got' the clue. This was a bit of a walk, but easy. A very noisy part of the coast most people would avoid Thanks Mr EMU.'
My fiancé and I tried to do this one some time back, but I didn't know how to project a waypoint, I got stuck.
(It was the first time I had seen a echidna in the wild!)
Today I had pre-solved this puzzle at home, and even had the waypoint projected! I have grown in my knowledge since back then!
We drove as close as I thought we could, and parked in the shade. (Turns out we could have made this one a drive by.)
Made the uneventful walk to GZ and the cache was quickly found.
Boy oh boy that station makes a lot of noise though!
Thanks again Mr Emu for this puzzle.

Found today in the company of two others from the Vic puzzle solvers group - PrincessDiala and Landau351, before this series is being archived.
I needed a hint for this puzzle - although it turned out to be very easy to solve in the end!
What a noisy power station! Cache was found quickly.
TFTC and the puzzle, Mr Emu!

Second last E.M.U. cache for the day. The puzzle didn't present too much of a challenge as this sort of thing is right up Mr O's alley, and things were pretty quiet around the environmentally-friendly, coal-fired power station on New Year's Day (except for a trailbike near GZ). TFTC yet again, Mr Emu.
A quick note for anybody who may be interested in attempting the E.M.U. series. I have altered my recent archiving plans (at request) so that all eight of these caches (#'s 0-7) will remain active up to - and including - Saturday 08 January 2011. After that date, I have no option but to archive the caches permanently.
* I am quite happy to provide guidance/hints for those that need help, but you will still need to do some work (and walking!) in the end.

Heard that these are going to go off line and having solved the series a couple of months back did not want to miss out on the find. Excellent Series and am sad to see Mr Emu pulling the pin on these ones. Thanks for all your hard work Mr Emu. Great job and these will be missed.
Although this puzzle cache has been enjoyed by geocachers for almost 2 years, I have considered the environmental impact of it's placement in light of the "Leave No Trace" ethic, and decided that it's due for retirement.
Collection and Archiving of this cache is planned within the next month.

Well it's taken me a fair while making sense of this one and some others. Really enjoyed these challenging puzzles and all the great locations we've been to today.
Thank-you Mr Emu for a great day out!!!!

2010-07-03 12:37 We headed here after E.M.U. 5 and like we have done for all the others we parked at the suggested car-park. This was an interesting location and not such a far walk. We had to avoid a few passing dirt bikes and made the find. One more to go!. Thanks again Mr Emu.
After E.M.U.4 this cache seemed the closest, so headed off and converged with some confusion, but the 4WD and AWD vehicles took the high track in and the cache was soon located at 2:05pm. Took out the fish lure TB which looks familiar. I mentioned that it will probably head to Europe and Alsume offered a geocoin that needs to head in that direction. Glad to oblige. Otherwise no swaps. Thanks Mr Emu.
Found with EuDes and Asume.
Thank-you for the late nights and finally a wonderful day day on the surf-coast and beyonds.
A Fantastic cache series.

A Fantastic cache series.
After lunch in Anglesea we were off to finish the series. Made it relatively close to GZ but didn't take the 2WD GeoMazda all the way - although we probably could have done. Another clever puzzle and great location. The work on the cache containers continues to amaze.
took Jeep TB but made no swaps.
Thanks again Mr Emu

Having regenerated the energy levels, it was time to resume our hunt. This was next on the list so off we headed to GZ, seemingly from many and varied directions . Nevertheless, we all arrived at around the same time-ish and were soon signing the log at 14:05. Another great puzzle (well solved by Alsume ), another great spot and another sensational container.
TNLNSL. Thanks Mr Emu.

Find # 3143 and 11th of the day at 12:12 pm. Accompanied by Feathertop on our Great Ocean Road Trip.Nice drive-by, found the cache a bit wet, TNLN, left my mark in the log, Thanx MrEmu....
This has been an interesting series of caches to tackle.
On first glance most of them looked easy but on closer inspection, no.
This was one of the easier one's for us and even easier once we found a great approach to GZ.
Just one to go now.

This was the second last cache of 43 for the day, on our tour of Geelong and the Surf Coast. Another nice area to visit, this was the last of the E. M.U caches for the day but we will return to finish them off in the not to distant future I hope. My thanks to Mr Emu for the cache.
Found while out on a good weather day for caching. I managed to figure out what had to be done with this one but it took me a while to find the information. It was nearly lunch! lol. The last cache of the day and we were again glad of the good maps on his Magellan. Once at GZ he made a quick find. Thanks Mr Emu.
And a big thanks for all the fun that we have had doing your caches today. A pity it is so far from home for him but then he is mad! It was still well worth coming down here and there are still more for us to do sometime!

A nice walk to this one even though we managed to park in the wrong spot and started up a small cliff face. Fast & furious today with 3 E.M.U.s recovered in less than 2 hours.
Six down and one to go.
Thanks again to Mr Emu for organising the wonderful puzzles & unique cache containers for this great series.

Found at 1.35pm GAFF5 in the company of maccamob and Phetlern.
Some interesting tracks to negotiate and then we were suddenly very close to the cache for a quick find.
The puzzle was quite a good idea, however we were on the wrong track for a while.
Thanks Mr Emu for another beauty.

It took the initiative of ppras to mobilise the forces of maccamob and Phetlern to launch the offensive. Knowing that is was six months since the demise of the navy vessel; we assumed we would be searching for the fused hard rocky masses of the former robots. Phetlern could not have joined the hunt without the invaluable contribution of CDNB as their brains trust.
After a brief and chilly break in the local town we were back on the hunt for number six. The required information had been quickly obtained from another great puzzle and the co-ords plotted. A drive by soon had the objective in hand and we were on our way again.

Found by Mary & David at 1340, in company with pprass and Phetlern. Managed this puzzle fairly easily without any outside help. We were also able to drive very close by. No matter how many of these we've found, the workmanship of the containers continues to impress. Once again, our thanks to Mr Emu.
RedPaw64 found this cache at 1210. Great walk to the cache. didn't see any wildlife while walking. took the camera just in case.

It has been a hard day, but U.M.U. 6 has now been located! With time getting away I made a quick log and was off - only one more to find!
Found this one easily in the dark, with saraci.jaee and RSF1010+SGGK. This series has been wonderful so far.

13:00 Found on our Touring Tassie and Beyond 2009 Trip!
We managed to keep our feet, and make our way to a rather wet and soggy GZ. Thankfully the rain held off, but I wouldn't have wanted to try drive down these roads, as they were just complete mush. With the roar of the plant just over our shoulders we were reminded that we weren't that far into the bush quite yet
Another well built cache that had been lugged a reasonable distance. Great puzzle as well. By far the best series that we have seen

This was one of the hardest for me to solve and Bushfire and I had a laugh about it when we compared notes later today. Sometimes it's simply a matter of the background you bring to a puzzle that helps you solve it. After considerable research and chatting to a few people I was able to find the info I needed to solve it.
The cache provided me with a nice walk and more great views of this part of the world. No sign of the sunglasses I'm afraid Laurie, although I was on the lookout for snakes more than I was sunnies!
Cheers,

Located at 1415hrs by Pteranodon, VKC1SR, Bushfire and Suitman. Wonderful series ... great puzzles. All good!
Found in the company of Bushfire, VKC1SR and Suitman. Thanks for the wonderful puzzle series, that's the most caches in a day for me by a long way and we stayed mostly dry despite the ferocious winds, chilly weather and threatening sky.

A nice easy find at 1415. Loved the container. Will log thoughts in E.M.U. 7

This EMU #6 cache was under attack from Pteranodon, VKC1SR, Bushfire and the Suitman in a combined attack. We found it at 14.15 on a very windy showery day but one of the best caching days I have had because the company was top class, the caches you will not find better anywhere and the containers you will have to find to believe and to top it all off the scenery you will have to see to believe. This was the easiest for me to solve as in a previous life I drove these vehicles and I think I found the site that Mr Emu used to work out this cache. Another well researched cache and well hidden cache. I believe this series is best done in a group as we did today. If anybody finds a pair of sunnies they could be mine. NI-NO thanks for another entertaining cache.
Found with Snakecatcher today.Spotted by Geowife, clues were figured out by Snakecatcher last night. Took koala and wombat, left lanyard and whistle. Another FTF on this series, only 2 more to work out!!! TFTC
