I am regretfully archiving this cache since there's been no response from nor action by the cache owner within the time frame requested in the last reviewer note.
Hi Carla6
This geocache was brought to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either replace it or archive it, after picking up any geo-litter. See the [maintenance section of the Geocache Listing Requirements/Guidelines](http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#listingmaintenance).
I've added this cache to my watchlist, and I will check back in four weeks to be sure that the maintenance has been done. In the meantime, I have temporarily disabled this listing. When the maintenance is completed, the owner can enable the listing by clicking on the link below the cache name to return it to active status.
Whatever your intentions, please **post a note** here on the cache page (not email) to let us know that you are still active and maintaining the cache. If a month passes without seeing a response, then I'll assume that this listing should be archived.
Please note, that if a cache is archived due to lack of owner maintenance, the cache is unable to be unarchived.
Regards

For those who would like to log this cache, you'll need to supply your own kayaks, as the operator no longer hires them out at the holiday park. We'll be back with kayaks in tow...
ReCached and I did a short walk past the falls. I was keen on finding this one, so I jumped to some of the really big stones, trying to get closer to GZ. When the terrain got harder, I left my phone and keys on one of the stones. From the next one it looked like I needed to take my clothes off and swim towards the cache. I spent a few minutes in the cold water, but unfortunately I wasn't able to find the cache.

Well we weren't sure if we would get to this cache as we didn't have kayaks( we think kayaks would be a great way to find this). The water level was low so we walked along the Hinemoa Track and then rock hopped the rest of the way to the cache. It was quite a challenge even with the low water level. Clambering, climbing and wading. What great fun- An amazing adventure! Cache is soaked and so were we so we couldn't replace the log book. Definite fav point from us. TFTC
Found it! Great spot for a cache especially if you're going to kayak to it
GZ took me to the top of a boulder well out in the river. No Nanao hidden in that so I gave up as I did not have any notes with me to help further.
Cheers,

Checked out all methods of previous loggers; carried waders along path, looked at both sides by foot. Didn't seem like good idea. Hired a canoe from campground and super glad we did. It was easy to get there though we think egg AND 2 rocks to left were submerged but mrs managed to get out, find and sign. Then began the REAL reason we wanted the boat. Mr j caught both a rainbow and a brown while Mrs paddled back down. Both were spawned, so skinny and not good eating, and not kept. We stopped at the beach at the river mouth and after a half hour caught a pretty little brown perfect for dinner.
This was exciting for us as it may be a new d/t rating and we also thought it hadn't been found for a year and would earn us a puzzle at home but quinella found it 1 dec 11 vs the 12 of jan 11 we were reading! Bugger those American date formats (at time of our PQ Liz.. hadn't logged) LOL NINO TFTC

We had just finished the Great Walk and probably should have been relaxing with a beer, but what do we do instead? Go geocaching! We took a friend's boy with us so the man and boy went off swimming and hunting over the river. Thank goodness it was a quick find as the sandflies were out in force and we hadn't bought any repellant. An amazing waterfall , thanks for bringing us here.
Over a year since last visitor! This isnt that hard. I walked down track ready for the swim over. In fact was more of a wade over but got into one hole that was chest deep-lake was lowish though. Found the tree as per clue....it's actually quite sick now, but cache still in place after a bit of scratching around.
A great cache with that extra bit of challenge. Thanks

This was FUN ! Had been looking forward to this one so was first we did when we got here.
Lovely sunny/hot Nov day - just as well. Walked down the track to below the falls. Those falls are pretty neat . Checked out the moa egg ??[?] , hinted tree and river level - obviously high as no way to walk across, wade across or rock hop across. Hmmm what to do - didn't want to use up our time going to get kayaks so stripped off and in i went - brrrr
TFTC - log book VERY wet and soggy - sorry no replacement one on me lol

I note this cache hasn't been found for some time, but based on previous log, thought the bank scramble shouldn't be do difficult. Whoo - back up the bus. This is a terrain 6! At one stage found myself looking directly down at the lake. However, after 25mins, I got to the prescribed hint item, and fortunately managed to locate cache quite quickly. The log etc is damp, so signed name without removing the log. Definitely earned my smiley on this one! TFTC

A very frustrating cache to begin with but with a fun happy ending!! This was the first cache we got to at the lake and spent a great deal of time pacing up and down the river bank looking for a rock hopable crossing, most of the rocks had a slimy layer on them and were very slippery, and if you check out our picture (stolen from the freezer mice) you will see the difference in lake levels between when we were there and when he made the crossing. Tramped back up the track to the van to get the gumboots to try crossing nearer to the falls, still too high and then tried the bare feet buzzoh but the water was freezing!! hard to believe it's December!! The water was too deep to try the bare feet trick, about to give up when we tried the visitor centre side, found a track that got us to within 40 metres, only it was pretty much straight down!! oh well, the cliff/bank was covered in fern like plants so did the bum slide holding on to the plants, got to the lake edge and scrambled under plants/trees till I found the hinted tree, cache found under debri, little bit of mould on logbook but otherwise dry and writable. Lets just say going down this bank was easier than going back up!! I think I ended up just as wet from the wet foliage than I would have if I had swum across!! I think I turned it into a Terrain/Difficulty 5!!

The Freezer Mice strike again!!!
Grew up spending alot of time in this area, so knew what the appropriate approach to this cache was going to be.
Also happened to have been doing a bit of fishing here over the last few days so quite fortunately had brought my waders with me.
With the lake being so low, there wasnt much cause to have to use them for fishing, so they became a handy addition to the cache hunting kit.
Cache found without issue, TNLNSL, TFTC.

There has been a bit of rain over the last 24 hours, so crossing the river wasn't so easy today. I managed to get across by boulder hopping and a bit of thigh deep wading. Saw the interesting fossil and found the cache ok.
On the way back across the river, I was caught out by a slippery rock and fell in the water, submerging my phone and GPSr. Luckly I was quick to react and jump out of the water and they both escaped unscathed. Unfortunately, as I was to find out after visiting the Rata tree, some water had got into my car keys.
Great cache.
Thanks.

This has got to be one of the most fun caches we've done yet. After reading the write up, OmaGosh and I thought we'd go do a quick recce to see if it really was swimmable or whether we'd have to find out about hiring kayaks. Happy to report that we didn't have to resort to either! After spotting the very obvious egg from across the far side of the river, we managed to boulder hop and rock scramble our way over to the cache without so much as getting our feet wet! Well, OK, we waded a short bit going over, but spotted the prized dry route coming back. The fun was had in trying to pick a route across and the teamwork involved overcoming some of the obstacles. Not recommended to attempt this after any heavy rainfall however! An easy find, and we even managed to find a fossilized onion(??) on another rock coming back!
Joint FTF number 3 for the day was the icing on the egg.
Many thanks for the fun Carla - this one was truely memorable!
