It was such a welcome site when we got to this area. After tramping through the "jungle", the open area and large body of water was refreshing. I didn't enjoy the sandflies, though, while grabbing the cache. The log book was so damp I almost didn't even try to sign it. But I managed, somehow. Still, I think the cache needs some TLC.
Found with Mporokosa on our fun trek along the tracks of Hunua. It was my turn to stay out of the bush and look after Shylah, for which I am grateful given the mutterings from Mporokosa about the condition of the log and the sandflies. TFTC.
Found originally as part of rebel98 team, now created own account, re-logging as rustynz
See rebel98 log, hoped we had enough time to come and visit, could not remember visiting this dam before. Had a few problems navigating here, did not have the car GPS, but eventually we found the carpark, and eventually the cache. Thanks again for the hide. Loved the shape of the cache container, now we have to find the full size one.

Friend found it first! Visiting the Hunua regional park, this being another bit of the Regional parks challenge. Forecast was for rain, thankfully they got it wrong, a fine day! Have wanted to visit this dam for a long time, did not know that a road would bring me here. Thanks for the hide
Came to the area today to do some geocaching but had to stop first to help a lost dog. After "Storm" was save back with his owner we continued our hike and found baby Tui fighting against a bunch of ants. We took the little one forgot about caching and drove to the next bird rescue center. TFTbigC
Found it today. Logbook is soaked. Didn't sign it for that reason. Nice relaxing view though!

Found this cache while at working surveying the dam. Logbook is getting pretty tatty! TFTC
had the gps navigating but forgot about in the face of how the wind was funnelled up that gorge in to the perfect '"storm " crossing the dam wall and hitting the water in all directions at once - that i forgot bout the task in hand.. until i stopped to unload some extra liquid weight.. the gps buzzed right there but luckly the cache was a little out of the target zone...
Its been a very long time since I have been out caching especially with my good friend Cats&Dragons. Today was going to be the day that changed that.
We left Hamilton just after 5.30 and headed north. I was a quick trip with lots to catch up on. We parked easily enough and headed up to collect the cache higher up the hill. Headed back down the hill to collect his one.
Took a couple of minutes to locate this one as were were originally looking behind the wrong hint item. Got there in the end.
Its been about 3mths since id done any hiking and this was a great way to get back into it.
Thanks for a great cache. Got the caching bug again.

Out with Nova Lightning (trying to get him of the couch and out caching once again) and deceided that we would make a trip up to this part of the Hunua's for a few caches.
Collected after a nice walk up the Massey track for a couple of caches and that certainly made this a little easier as the gps was bouncing around a bit but soon managed to spot the cache.
Thanks for taking us on a new path

Relatively easy find while walking the hunua ranges with HowickSteph and Susan1989, TFTC
Hadn't been this way for several years, so when Mrs Darby&Joan suggested a day out, I was more than willing.
We were heading from Hunua falls to Cossey's dam (positive the car GPS didn't tell us to turn or recalculated). Too busy making up stories of how we continued to this cache from 'The Wonderstuff's & ZorkV's Whopper'... by returning to car and driving - not by walking. After awhile I was wondering why it was taking so long - I knew I had previously walked frem the falls to the dam, and it couldn't have been this far. Looked at my GPSr and the cache was 7.4km behind us - Have advised Mrs Darby&Joan to set her car GPSr to allow Uturns, so it doesn't send you miles (or is that kilometres) out of the way to find a place to do a loop.
However, with much giggling over our adventures it did mean that we found a couple of extra caches (near Clevedon) that weren't on our original list.
When we got to the falls we met up with some people leaving who we had met on the track as we left the Whopper cache. They had walked the track and looked around in the time we had driven. TFTC

On a mission today with Helefant to find caches that fit our provisional licence requirements. We set off nice and early, to beat the heat of the day. Quite comical our antics to get to this cache. We should have just walked it from the Whopper cache, cos we followed the car GPS and missed a turnoff somewhere and ended up in Clevedon. Did a couple of caches there and then worked out our error and returned finally. Took our lunch with us on this one and enjoyed the walk down to GZ. Unfortunately the picnic table is a little collapsed, but we found a way to park ourselves to eat. One of us went to move and nearly catapulted the other one off the end. lol. We walked up the other road to return to vehicle. Loved the cache container. SL. TFTC.
And this is why we brought a 4WD fun mobile for our geocaching... it speed up to the dam like a young colt... great stuff. Found cache no trouble - just a little wet so tried to dry it out before leaving. t4tc
First we looked behind the wrong location mentioned in the hint. Once we found the right location, and had a laugh at was was written on it, we quickly found the cache. Log of a bit wet. TFTC.
Kept rummaging round in the wrong place!! The find took us way longer than it should have. Got there in the end which made the walk up from the falls worth it after all. One very tired caching team now!! Log and contents damp as previously noted, but still signable. TFTC
Great day to be out and about. Wet log book, we wonder whether the cache lid seals properly. TFTC
Just like the one in my camper. Been here lots of times over the years. Good to see the dam full of water this time
#527, Kids were feeling tired so we decided to walk back to the car and drove round. Didn't even know you could drive to the dam. Cool wheelie bin cache. Dropped off Geocoin. TFTC.
A nice track in the wood with all this different plants.

Was hunting around ages at what we assumed was GZ based on the coordinates and the clue. We were about to give up so had some lunch then had a brain wave and tried the alternative clue item and bingo the cache was soon in hand. What a great container. Log book was very damp but still able to write our names. TFTC.
Made the very enjoyable walk up from the Hunua Falls car park. This is a great spot and well worth the visit.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Yay, rewarded with our efforts to walk out to the dam with a cache, loved the camo!! TFTC
Quick find, log book wet, but still able to be signed. TFTC. Never been to this dam before. Obeyed all the signs saying to keep off the dam face, tempting as it was to not do so. Arms werent long enough to refill the drink bottle. Pity. TFTC.
Good find. Definately needs maintenence as log book is sopping and pen dosent work. TFTC anyways
Found with AngelFox56. Just FYI this cache has been wet inside and the contents are also wet. We were able to sign the log but it definitely needs TP be dried out. We couldn't help with this as we had to move on and the weather wasn't great anyway. TFTC. SLTNLN.
Classic! Have met this one's big brother further up the hill too. Log & contents wet but not mushy. Just wondering if the outer container is filling up? T4TC
Thanks for cache!
Cache needs MAINTENANCE (Log and everything are wet. So need to dry everytnihg. Couldn't do it yesterday due to arrived very late)

Really cool place for a cache, I was in the area with a school group. walked past the cache area and spotted the clue, then came back while they where eating lunch. Thanks heaps!!
A good start to the days caching, a cooler slightly damp day but still plenty of people about, a number of tourists as well as the regulars. TFTC
I was going to say that the cache owner didn't know the difference between cast aluminium and stainless steel[B)] as I started off searching behind the wrong one as I didn't see the other one.[:o)] I was going to log this as a DNF. So I went back to the car to check on the best way to get to XC's Hunua Macro cache and saw that one of the accesses was from Cosseys Dam. It was back down to the Dam and what should I see but the Stainless Steel switchbox, DUH!!![B)] The cache was quickly in hand with virtual egg all over my face.
In: Geocoin.
Cheers for the cache.

Another spot we hadn't been to before. Brisk walk to GZ and a quick search and we had the cache in hand T4TC.
Found without too much difficulty - interesting cache container! Where did the owner obtain it?
Took the kids to the Hunua ranges for the first time and had to do some caching along the way. Peaceful spot this. Dropped off a TB. TFTC

Decided to take the van up to this one, it seems there are tracks all over this place!! Found cache with no worries.

This one caused a bit of reflection and thought and several attempts at figuring, plus avoiding a few groups of people passing by. TFTC
It seemed rude not to visit with the owner in tow.
Although I think the Tom Tom vs Garmin jokes were running a bit thin at this point.

GPSr going wild here so had to widen the search. Great little innovation.

Did you know it covers more than 5,000 acres.
See we did read the sign. Came here from the falls for some exercise - man there are lots of step ups.
Co-ords had us up the bank - just can't trust a TomTom. Clue soon sorted it out.
Great effort on the camo thanks KiwiLeon.
Our co-ords are S36 03.621 E174 06.374

Beaten once again by FMZ to the FTF. Oh well..
Great location, good hiding place (like FMZ, I found it to be off, exactly by the distance between the two boxes).
TNLNSL. Thanks for a great diversion from work on Friday afternoon.

Small detour on the way home.
Sorry, didn't really check the coords - they were a little out, but forgot to average new ones for you. Decrypted the clue on arrival and it was quickly found.
Anyway, magnificent spot. Took a bunch of photos and made a TB swap.
TFTC and the FTF (#162)!!

Judging by the photo of KiwiEric placing the cache, the TomTom would have it in the middle of the road as usual
