There is still a cache hidden at GZ, but I still don't know the fate of the piece of art on which the cache is based.

08-Nov-13
As there's been either no response from the cache owner, no cache to find or log to sign, or it's been a number of months since the last owner note. I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace/make available the cache sometime in the near future (next 30 days), just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the current guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it. Should you replace the cache after 30 days has passed please create a new cache listing so it can be reviewed as a new cache.

Found today on the second attempt.
I realised when I got to the start that the 'wall' had disappeared. I thoughtb I had to be there to project the waypoint However in a frenzy of activity that took way too long, I used my ipad to project the waypoint properly ie. with the right degrees this time.
All I can say is thank goodness my original answers were correct because as you are aware, I couldn't re-check them now that the art work missing.
Happily signed the log and headed off to visit Here comes the Sun.

My apologiesfor logging this when it has been disabled, but like I said I had the info with me for once.

29-Aug-13
Still disabled. I am as yet unable to know the eventual fate of the work of art on which this cache is based. This is in an area of ongoing railway construction works. I hope to have it back on line soon, in some form or other.

19-Jun-13
Would have loved to have found this but the clues have gone with the removal of the old bridge, replaced by a new one.
If it is going to be solved it is going to need a bit of trial and error as the bananas expect GZ is still in great condition. Just it is a little harder to find without the clues available.
Want this for unloved series.

06-May-13
Still not sure what will happen to the cache.

26-Mar-13
WP1 is still not accessible due to works on the rail system. I still have no idea whether the mural will survive.
Wally

28-Dec-12
Disabled for the time being. WP1 is inaccessible due to works.

10-Oct-12
Felt very conspicious searching for the final but the cache is so superbly tucked away with a super strong sucker that I can't imagine this one every disappearing. Thanks for the cache wallyhunt.

09-Oct-12
Unfortunately WP1 is currently not reachable. The piece of street art that this cache is based on will be removed to make way for the new railway system. I will have to have a good long think as to what to do to keep this cache alive, would be a shame to loose this one.

30-Sep-12
Found the first set of info, after reading the interesting info on the wall. Guesstimated the projections, as none of us had the brain power to work it out how to make the GPS do it accurately today. However we found our way to a place that fitted the description of GZ. But we couldn't find the cache. Is it missing or do we have to work out our figures more accurately!

23-Jun-12
Nicely hidden, loved the waypoint finding. Cheers for the cache!

Part of a loop on foot, beginning and ending in the Yarraville Gardens, taking in the sights of Seddon and Footscray.

Another great community installation and more history that I'd still be unaware of if not caching... and a chance to use a previously unused feature of my GPS app.

A few quick calculations, coordinates mapped, and off I went to what I hoped was GZ. As always with multis, it was a relief to find the eclipse tin.

The cache is in good nick. Thanks, wallyhunt, for a quite different multi.

That was fairly hard as the GPSr wouldn't settle as usual to let me take an accurate bearing. There's a lot of steel around here. Good fun nevertheless and the cache is in good condition.

I was in the area tonight and had look up what the local chches were. This one had me intrigued. Loved the art and enjoy making projections. Mine had the cache in the middle of a road but otherwise the location fitted pretty well so I made my way down to GZ. Reading some other logs made me more confident I was in the right place and soon found the cache. Managed not to get run over while crossing the road. Thanks for this most memorable cache wallyhunt.

27-Nov-11
Although I had some difficulty with the projections I was pretty confident that I had roughly the right area to look at so came to what I thought was GZ and that when instinct took over - found after a short search and yes the magnet is very strong! Nice hide TFTC

Met up with trailrunning and tagged along for his usual monday night caching run. Had a pretty good start with a find every 5 mins. One of the advantages of having a two-man tag team, we were able to solve the clues quickly with each looking at different sides of the wall for answers. After some calculations, we headed to GZ and trailrunning found the cache. Signed the log and we were off. TFTC wallyhunt:)

It's a warm Monday night and a great night for caching. jsmyong55 and I met up at around 5:30 at Swinburne for run on the other side of the Westgate Bridge. We had a good run at the start with about 6 finds in half an hour, but slowed from there for various reasons. All in all a good few hours. We stopped close to the wall and after a short amount of time, each looking for different clues we went back to the car to do our calculations. We then headed off and found a nearby parking spot. We went to our separate search areas, and the cache was found a little way off our projected co-ordinates. It was in good order. Thanks wallyhunt.

13/08/2011 14:05 Found: I thought I would try a multi as I was over this neck of the woods after dropping off my wife and mother-in-law at the Regent to see Phantom2. Read the stories and collected the values required. I know that c:geo can project waypoints but I am still only getting the hang of it all as I was out by 13m. Before I used the clue I actually searched the other side, so I was at least looking in the right sort of place. I ended up using the clue and searched in the other likely location to make this an easy find with my geo sense turned on. I saw a pair of muggles cutting the grass nearby but they were taking no interest and this place is simple enough to make a grab without arousing to much attention. I'm glad it was the weekend as I think this location might draw unwanted attention during lunchtimes. TFTC wallyhunt TNLN SL

Suscoe was amazed at these stories.
Gathered the info.
Did the projection thing.
Wandered off and after some discussion moved the search a little and there was the cache.
What a lucky chance.
Thanks to wallyhunt for sharing these amazing stories with us.

Finally found this one tonight after working out the numbers twice but having no real idea how to project the figures. It was only after talking to a previous finder that pointed me towards the right direction that I was successful. Wonderful stories here Wally, thanks.

Found by Mary & David at 1410. Found it almost immediately this time. Must have been having a 'senior moment' on our last visit. Just didn't look closely enough. A good spot, and interesting social history at WP1. Our thanks to wallyhunt.

05-May-11
Visited this cache today, because a very experienced cacher (team) reported a DNF. I expected to not find it because of the experience of this team, but it's still there exactly where it should be.

04-May-11
Started this one about 18 months ago but never got around to GZ until today. Our projection had us in the middle of the road at first, but favoured the west side after a while. Had a good look around the most likely structures on both sides, but couldn't find the cache. The rain began soon afterwards, but by then we'd had a reasonable look around.

Couldn't project distances properly on my GPS so failed at the multi earlier, came back prepared and found the cache quickly.

Found on my most productive caching day ever in the company of Reesylou. Thank you for the cache. This is an area I do not know well, and caching was a great way to explore it. Took quite a while to find this one but we got there in the end.

Found with drednort on a lovely day for caching. Did the ground work for this one a week ago, but ran out of time (and received some bad news via phone) so didn't grab it. Well hidden, and strong magnets.

06-Aug-10
Could only project distances of 100m at a time on my Garmin eTrex H, tried to work around it but all I found was an overgrown lot full of syringe containers, multi cache fail.

04-Aug-10
after meeting a few guys who wanted our money (strange persons) we made that cache. the magnet is very strong^^

First cache of the day found at 9:15 with company from The Swaggie's, We arrived at waypoint 1 and quickly gathered the necessary infomation and set out with the projection's finding the cache after rechecking an area we had already looked.
There were a few sharps around the area of gz so please be aware if taking the Geo-kids.
Many thanks wallyhunt for the well thought out multi.

As the second cache of our Willie's town tour we almost came a cropper here as well in that all we found was very old syringes and no container. Was almost ready to leave empty handed when we rang a friend and they corrected our projection mistake. After that a find, not an easy find but a find none the less. Thanks wallyhunt for the cache.

05-Jun-10
not today. must try again some other day.

OK I am guilty of not logging caches over the last year or two. Due to 2 operations and rehab it has made it difficult to log caches even though I have been mostly chair bound sitting for short times has been difficult as well.
What I have done is create this log in an attempt to bring our found and DNF's up to date so I can resume my normal habit of stories rather than a TNLN - TFTC.
Most of these logs will not include the owners team name so I think it is appropriate to say a Big Thank the cache owners for their caches and some wonderful memories of caching adventures.
Also thanks to Team Crackers who have made our caching trips so much fun and their help in working out what caches we did and when.
Regards
Mr.Coffee and the "I promise I wont let this happen again after all these coffee's er I mean caches are drunk er I mean logged" Coffee Clan.

21-Feb-10
Out and about with The Coffee Clan on our clean up the Western Suburbs this was the next on the list. This was a very interesting site that we knew nothing of until today where we collected the required information and headed back to the car to do the projections on the map. We must have rushed this step a little bit as when we got to our projected gz we were at a very likely location but unfortunately no cache. We read the cache page again and were happy that we were in the right area and expanded our search a little to other likely locations where the cache was located 28 meters from our projected point
Thanks wallyhunt for the cache and for showing us that we need more practice on projecting way points

Find # 857 @ 15:26 and third for the day
Time to do a few local ones that have been on the horizon for a while. This was one of them. Did the calcs and projected towards gz and after a quick search, the hide was in hand.
SL Thanks to wallyhunt for the cache!

With pick-up time rapidly approaching, I thought I'd give this one a try. What amazing stories on the wall! I was a bit skeptical about the GZ I calculated but after a bit of searching around, I soon had the stash in hand at 15:25. Overall, a very interesting cache Big Grin.

TNLNSL, although a couple of our geocoins had a visit to mark the occasion. Thanks wallyhunt.

As it turned out a rough calculation with google earth after fiding the co-ords last week lead me straight to where I assumed and an easy find tftc!!

28-Nov-09
Worked out the numbers some while back, but didn't know how to project waypoints back then.
At a recent event, a long time cacher gave me some instructions how to do this, but for some reason I cant get the direction working.
In the car we had access to some maps, and just used a ruler to measure out the distance and direction I thought we should be heading, and placed us in a likely spot.
Searched around a bit, but couldn't find it, plus I'm not sure if we were in the right area or not.

01-Nov-09
We found this one at 12:25pm as the 4th of 11 on the Left and Centre City Tour with Team Rubik. Rubik had previously found this one but kindly stopped when passing to let me log too. We passed Wally's namesake street whilst on route. Thanks from D B-A.

20-Oct-09
Called in today after I'd ridden the pushy back from work and gathered the numbers but I didn't stop to work them out untill I got home so I'll be back within a few days to clean it up. Interesting wall; I wonder how many people actually stop to read it. I notice also that the universal signature for morons has appeared on the wall as well. (graffiti if your wondering).
I'll be back soon Wallyhunt. Thanks.
Back this evening and finished it off no problems really except that a comment Robmc made earlier had me looking in the wrong place for a bit before I decided to believe the GPS.
Thanks again Wallyhunt

Biggles Bear #1 and I gathered the clues and projected GZ, but came up with two different sets of co-ordinates. We tried for one and came up with the cache. On the way back to the car, we checked the other GPS and realised that it had used magnetic rather than true bearings. Even over such a short difference, it makes a big difference. Thanks for the cache.

30-Sep-09
Found 16:15, in the company of Muzza. The clues were collected and the waypoints projected. However we ended up with two possible locations [B)] the cache was fond none the less and then the reason for the error in one of the waypoints was identified.

TNLN, CSI=3, thanks wallyhunt.

No 18 of 18 on my Maribyrnong Trail cycling adventure. This is an interesting and sobering piece of "artwork" which makes you appreciate just how lucky we are here..
The Oregon 300's projection features worked a treat and I was able to retrieve the cache at 16:30. That's it for me for the day - off home now. Thanks to wallyhunt for highlighting something which could easily be passed straight by.

05-Sep-09
We tried to use the gps to project the waypoints, but it didn't work to well, oh well back to the car to do it properly. After we had GZ we set of to get the cache only to find some workman near by, so I came back later in the day to pick it up.Whilst retrieving the cache I spent some time watching a local rock climber practice his art on the blue stone wall nearby. Found by Bob at 1245

I don't tend to enjoy traveling in the densely populated inner suburbs with their narrow streets and lack of parking (even when I'm on my motorbike) but, today, I managed a park only a few metres from the posted co-ords and was quickly able to get the requisite info and calculate a final GZ. I was pleasantly surprised that my Oregon, unlike my old Etrex, was able to do projections using fractions of a metre even - unlike the Etrex which could only cope with 10 metre increments. I was then lucky enough to find a park only 20m from GZ and the cache was in the first spot I checked Smile. It certainly is a strong magnet!

Thanks WallyHunt

30-Aug-09
I totally messed up the projections on my eTrex a month ago when I first tried for this one. Back at home I managed to identify the most likely GZ, and today was my first chance to get back for the find. There is was, as I had calculated. Wow - what a strong magnet that one is... the poor little container with such a strong hold! Thanks for the challenging multi, and the history lesson back on the bridge last month!

08-Aug-09
I suffered a little bit at GZ, I had a choice of two spots and found a syringe in the first but the cache in the second! Accuracy is bound to be a little difficult to achieve given the location. I enjoyed reading the stories and seeing the art, coming from a town and school that has a number of refugees I could relate to their stories.

Thanks for highlighting this important area,

This was cache # 17 of 28 for the day, in the company of Alansee & pprass. the cache was found at 1800. I enjoyed reading the stories on the wall as the numbers were collected, Alan did the projections thankfully as I allways make a mess of projections, but I made up for that by working out where the cache was while discussion was going on about may be we got it wrong. My thanks to wallyhunt for the cache.

03-Aug-09
Found at 5.55pm GAFF5 in the company of Alansee and ACTS2YG.

We quickly found the references on the wall and Alansee worked out the numbers and then off to GZ where a bit of doubt crept in as there was nothing to be found in the middle of the road, but Acts2yg then decided to widen the search area and came up with the goods to all of our relief.

Thanks wallyhunt.

03-Aug-09
An interesting wall well worth a stop. The info was found easily enough and the projections done. The gps had us in an odd spot but then my gps, like many others, does not project to less than 10 metre intervals, so some allowance needed to be made.

ActsYouthGroup had the spot sussed long before he found the cache! Thanks wallyhunt for the chase.

Found by caughtatwork at 1:36
What fascinating history. Very tragic stories to be read here.
My GPS does not do projections below 100m accuracy, so I was quite lost when it came to finding the actual cache.
A quick call to a previous finder confirmed that I was in the right(ish) area, only off by about 50m, so I was quite pleased with my guesses as to distance and direction.
The cache was in an easy enough place to find so maybe I should have perservered before calling but with GabGab in tow, we needed to get back home for lunch, so the phone call it was.
Thanks wallyhunt for this cache experience today.

I found this cache with caughtatwork today. It was a bit hard for caughtatwork as we didn't know where to go, but we found it not too far away after he made a phone call. Thank you.

I travel under this bridge twice a day as part of my daily commute but you never know what is up on top until you go there.
It wasn't quite what I expected to find but the information was quickly gathered but I had not my laptop with me and my GPS is not great at accurate projections so I just kind of used comon sense to find my way to GZ.
As it turns out the first place I checked out had a couple of needles within but the second choice (10m away) contained the cache!
Thanks for showing me this Wallyhunt

Find # 2952 and 7th of the day at 2:06 pm on afternoon out caching by myself to clean up the west. I thought I would have some trouble with the maths here but everything worked out great and made a easy find, TNLN, left my mark in the log, thanx Wallyhunt....Big Grin

It's been a while since I have been to Footscray, and I have never seen this artwork. It made an interesting read (the bits I could). It make you realise how lucky you are growing up in Oz.
The calculations were very straight forward, and they are a couple of very simple projections, and when I saw where the first went to, I could guess the second.
Thanks, Robmc.

Point taken, I've upped it to 2.5 stars difficulty. They were simple projections though.
