Just trying to catch up logs from the past month, please accept my apologies for the delay.

In the area today with SueDan83 for our weekly Wednesday caching expedition. The Sutherland Shire is an area I really haven't spent a lot of time exploring up until now, so it has been great to discover lots of lovely new locations on our weekly trips. As we had parked nearby to complete a couple of other caches, of course we could not pass this one by. We approached from the top and as we did so a strong wind swept in which made things a little interesting. Was glad to have SD83 with me and his assistance with this one as I was definitely feeling a little nervy! Nice spot, TFTC!

The Crow and Dan walked up from the road below. Dan climbed up to the top to obtain a better signal for his etrex. He explored a likely hole, only to find the cache just next to his knees. We always appreciate a cache and would like to sincerely thank Rainbow Spirit for placing this cache.

Not high not low but way up the cliff face, good thing the coords were accurate. Had a rest on one of the many chairs dumped here. Maybe needs a CITO (Chairs in, Trash Out).

Time to go geocaching in our LGA today , we looked for this one a couple of weeks ago. Today tackled from another level, had to check for a safe way down it wasn't long before we came across the container. Stamped log book and returned. Thank you to Rainbow Spririt for this interesting hide.

TFTC,
It's a big day today and a big day deserves a special activity to make sure it is a day to remember.
The problem at present is that we are under LGA COVID lockdown. We are so lucky that there are still plenty of caches in the Shire that we haven't attempted.
We could have selected a day long bushwalk into Heathcote National Park but given the BOM's EWN's warning that a storm was going to hit mid afternoon. We looked around and selected 2 caches at Barden Ridge by Rainbow Spirit and Team Webguy instead. They are almost drive to but have Terrain ratings that should be a bit special.
After visiting this area for another reason last week, we had a look for this cache and after trying for over 1/2 hour we decided to leave without success.
This was the first of our caches and after parking, we walked to where our GPS's indicated GZ was. So different from the other approach but still enough to lift the heart beat and fear level. Tried several different lines of approach to get to what we believed was the correct altitude before sliding into the groove. This looked possible and while shaking we spent a good 1/4 hour searching before feeling a surface which wasn't rock or animal in texture.
Very impressed, added a favourite, visited trackables and left one to be moved along.

I spent a good hour looking in this location, even after checking previous find photos, the locations that looked like the photo spots, had nothing there unfortunately

30-Jan-21
There I was, poised precariously about 4.5 metres up, and realising that I probably was not at the real GZ. I was in one of those slip and you die positions, where a slip would be very costly. No way was I in terrain five territory. More like terrain 4.9, but with no gear. Slowly, carefully, I returned to a safer location and checked my "smart" phone again. Now it was showing that the cache was another 17 metres away. Unbelieveable! So I moved along the top another 17 metres and started to work my way down. I was contemplating another 2.5 metre drop (I can get down there, but will I be able to get back up?) when I saw something a foot to my left. Ah. That would be the cache. In a much-safer-than-the-location-I-was-about-to-get-myself-to position.
TFTC!

Originally went the lower route, that wasn’t quite right. Went back to the top to have a think about a better strategy. Still had a bit of trouble finding the cache, but finally had the cache in hand!
Thank you

After an unsuccessful attempt from below, we re-adjusted our elevation. Some tricky manovuers and a little grovelling I laid my hands on the prize.

An unplanned find but we were in the vicinity and well, what could go wrong? We started too low and found lots of hard to access, fascinating nooks and crannies, that were, of course, fruitless. So off we went to take long way up but my grumpy mate spotted a more difficult way to get there and led the way. Next we pondered how far down to go and how to get down. After some precarious shuffling, PPE pulled the box out and we signed in cramped conditions. All's well that ends. Thanks RS.

As i was heading out to get this one it was raining and i had my windscreen wipers on most of the way. Luckily it had dried off by the time i had reached the location.
After parking on Thomas Mitchell Dr. i headed down to the GZ. Given the clue and the terrain i had an idea of where to start looking and carefully headed to a level i thought would be a good place to start.
I dont know if i just got lucky but within about 5 mins of getting to the GZ i spotted something interesting and had the CIH.
Log signed i sat on the edge for a while and just enjoyed the view out over the valley.
Thanks.

No luck, but a fun scramble though

Maps are very deceiving when it comes to terrain. I knew it was steep around here, didn't know it was that steep! Getting close to gz i maintained 4 points of contact due to the sheer drops. Definitely easier from the top. TFTC!

When I visited the SSFTFH series last week, I noticed some interesting caches in this area. So returned today to cycle-caching a few along the fire trails here.
- - -
3rd find of the day. Cycled down the fire-trail. That was a mistake, as I had to climb my way back up the cliff to start the search (should've stayed on the road level on the bike!) Some previous logs helped me home in on the correct level. Then a bit more scrambling down - up - down before spotting the cache the second time around the same spot. Blends in very nicely with the camo.
In: bear key-ring
Out: nothing

I've tried this one 4 or 5 times over the years and it has remained one of the closest I found caches to my house. I swear I looked there before but geocaching a funny game and glad to finally tick this one off. Now just to get rid of that pesky child's play. TFTC

29-Jul-17
After finding another nearby cache, I made my way to GZ. I came up from below, there is always a way through the cliff lines and I found a relatively easy spot to climb up. Once at my desired level, it was a careful scramble to GZ, some nicely bolted rock face in the vicinity, but alas I had no rope. I had to do a double take because at first I didn't see the cache its really well camoed. I then found a great place to sit right at GZ and had a nice read of the log book. Adding my name, I completed the caching business and rehid the cache before making my way back to terra firma. No doubt my walk back to the car was much easier than my climb up to the cache.

05-Feb-17
After a great day out with The Garbage man, he insisted that I grab this one on a 'slight' detour home Having completed the cache before, he gave me a nudge as where to search, tricky with the different levels!! Great view of the river too, will definitely be back to explore some more in the future! TFTC!!!!

Was out and about with Brewmaker today getting some caches around the shire.
We parked the car nearby and headed towards gz. Brewmaker had been here before, but I soon spotted a likely location, with some guidance. I was soon on my hands and knees crawling - this was spooky! But, I couldn' find the cache. Seems I just didn't reach far enough and all I saw were rocks. So then the cache was located, log signed, and replaced. TFTC Big Grin

A day of adventures in southern Sydney with TOMBI and BillHill with the intention of grabbing a bunch of high DT combo caches.

This was one of my targets for the day as this cache qualifies for the Scenic Adventurer challenge in the Corrobare Forests up near Cessnock. It was one of four qualifiers I managed to find today which was a real bonus for me as they are not the easiest caches to find usually,

Picked an access point and jumped down and made a quick find within minutes. Hung my feet out over the edge to sign the log and enjoy the view. What a cracking spot this is. There was a time this adventure would have been a bit nerve wracking for me but it seems caching adventures have made me somewhat more immune to high ledges that I was in the past HAHA A quick find and then off the next one. Found with TOMBI! on a day trip to pick up some chairs at Gymea and going to the baths then came here on the way back. Nice close for parking, and beautiful view from GZ. TFTC

08-Jan-17
Found with BillHill531 on a day trip down to south Sydney (to pick up some chairs, not geocaching). Knowing I was coming down here the night before I looked at caches around here I really wanted to do. Ending up with only five caches for the day, this one was on my list as it is a scenic adventure (needed for a certain challenge cache). This one was also easy to park for with the trailer full of chairs. A very short walk to the cliff, some nice views, then some scary ledge descending, more like crawling. I found the perfect spot, but not the cache. I came back out, read some logs and went back in again to find it neatly tucked away from view. Few. Cause I was out of ideas, due to the massive cliffs every where else.
Thanks for the scenic adventure, climb and cache!

Walked down to the river and thought I may be able to get this one along the way. However I was not able to get to it, so after spending some time down at the causeway I made my way back up to the road and along the top to GZ. A little climbing and poking around and found it. Well hidden, signed the log and watched the sun go down. Great spot and I will definitely come back for the other caches in the area. TFTC.

While in the area I had to grab this one even if I had to get to the edge of my comfort zone.

This is my 156th Rainbow Spirit hide that I have found out of his 168 total hides. Unfortunately those 12 are now archived. But for now it is a complete set!!!

As always it is a great spot well hidden. Amazing views!

Spent a couple hours searching for this. Tried from the bottom first which was a complete fail. Then from the top. A lot of climbing down steep ledges and digging under rocks but still did not find it Sad frustrating that we left with a DNF but an awesome view from the top. Will try this again at a later date.

17-Jul-16
Wow we just could not find it. We tried to climb from below but realised it was too much of a challenge. Going from the top was better to pin point the location but maybe we are not adventurous enough. It was quite a drop below us and we looked in all the nooks and crannies that were easily accessible but there was no way any of us were scaling a cliff face so we enjoyed the view and tried not to let our defeat get us down. Definitely not one for young kids. We will be back to try again once we have had more practise.

13-Jul-16
Watch out for the cliffs! Especially on windy days! I came from the top as other logs suggested but soon realised I would need to go down, but how far? There were many places it could be and just as many dangerous obstacles.

After many approaches and perilous scrambles on hands and knees, I eventually returned to a spot I had been to earlier. This time I looked and felt a little deeper, and I had CIH after nearly an hour. Some of the places I had looked were outright suicidal as I made this more difficult than I should have. The terrain certainly deserves it's rating!

Once I had the signed the log, I sat on the ledge and contemplated the glorious views to the river below and to ANSTO and the cliffs in the distance. Is that a Red Gum I see over there? What a great place to put this hide. But be very careful of the steep drops!

TFTC. Amazing! #659

The attack from the bottom didn't quite work so climbed my way to the top.
Once the GPSr settled a bit of a climb down and had CIH. I keep thinking that at my age I really shouldn't be doing this. Anything for a smiley and great views.

Stopped here not know what to expect until I pushed thru the shrubs from the road. WOW.. Awesome!!!

But I came for the cache not the view, so I started hunting.. Come on really over the edge.. So I climbed down.. Nothing to scary.. With some poking around I was able to find the prize. TFTC Smile

Reperio at 1220.

As I happened to be in the area picking some furniture we bought online, I figured I would make the most of the day and find a few higher terrain caches, and after finding the nearby alien abduction, this one sparked my interest. I arrived at GZ to a wonderful view below, and wondered how far I needed to get down to get to the cache. After dropping down one level, to my surprise I spotted the cache just sticking out of it's hidey hole. Signed the log, and then sat with my legs dangling over the edge just looking out at the view. A wonderful spot indeed.

This cache goes down in the too hard basket. Rainbow Spirit 4 star terrain caches usually have me umming and arghing. Geodad and I really couldn't figure out where the cache might be. But having said that even if we did know we probably wouldn't want to go down to get it. So it's okay. Might have to leave this one for someone braver than us. What a view though! Wow!

15-Sep-14
It certainly is a wonderful location. TFTC!!

There can be not better time to do a cache on a cliff edge than when it is twilght( dark enough to make it hard to see, but still light enough to see how high you are) and raining cats and dogs.
A quick and easy affair given the circumstances.
Thanks RS.

14-Aug-14
My challenge today was to go for a run through the bush and pick up a quick cache. As it turned out it wasn't so quick. The original plan was for the nearby "Red Gum" cache, but that was a total fail. A check on my gps for the next nearest pointed back to this "wonder". When I approached GZ the contour lines on my gps showed that the cache was too far above me to reach from my location; I had attacked it from the wrong direction and I soon realized my mistake. I back tracked and came in from another angle and soon found my head swimming with the view or was that the vertigo. This is not a place for the faint-hearted (not as scary as Red Gum though!!!); but still, a nice place to sit and enjoy the view while rummaging through the cache. SL TNLN then off back home for a well earned rest. TFTC.

WOW- TFTC & the exercise.. Yes I tried to go from the bottom track, but after climbing 1/2 way up in jeans, I looked at the logs... Arghhhh back along the track I walk to go from the top... Fav point for the location... Beautiful...

This reminded me of my first cache - the one that got me hooked. A bit of a climb, lots of places to search and a good size cache as the reward. Then there is the spectacular view. Thanks for all of the above Rainbow Spirit. A favourite point from me. Cheers Deemacvee

Over the last few weeks I had to work a bit of overtime, which is unusual for me. Always good to make it up with a day off - but what could I possibly do with a weekday off to myself? Gardening? Not likely. I think there was only ever one choice ....

So, off to Woronora for some kayaking. Got here early, which gave me some time to do some extra difficult caches. Took the low road into this one, wondering when the terrain was going to come into play. Didn't have to wonder for long, and was soon looking for a way up. Did the scramble and landed pretty quickly at the right altitude, longitude and, as a bonus, lattitude Smile

Well there are two ways into this cache....the hard way and the easy way. Guess which way I came in !
Hunted around for a bit and realised I would have to get on all-fours to access this one. Take care as there are vertical drops right at GZ. The cache needed a few things so I left a badge on a peg, a capsicum, and some small pegs with ladybirds attached. TN, SL.
This is truly a "Woronora Wonder" the views are excellent. TFTC Rainbow Spirit.

This one took more effort to find than what I expected when looking for it. Read a few logs after climbing down halfway and picked another spot to look.
From above I spotted the box. It was upside-down and exposed. Found my way level to the cache, water had gotten inside.
Signed log, and put it under cover, right way up so hopefully no more water will get in.

Would love to be able to get a smiley for this one but sadly I was unable to sign the log book. I was within 1m of the container, I could see it, even got a photo of it but I am not great with heights and ledges and there was no way I was retrieving that from there! Wink Maybe I will be back some day armed with a long grabber pole but until then...... Enjoyed lunch from the top . Glorious views.

Was a good climb reading the logs really helped. And the hint made sense after I had found it. Use the method of. 'if I were a box. Where would I hide'. A good cache. Needs more items in it though!

#1315 - Another Alfyboy Adventure.

I checked the terrain on Google, it looked close to the houses, so how bad can this one be? I initially wanted to go via the top, but then once I drove over, found a firetrail. Cool. I started walking and before long came from below and saw where I needed to be.

Now the 'fun' began! I started climbing and searching and climbing some more. The hint wasn't than much help as I scoured around for signs of the cache. I climbed some steep places and saw the drops down. Then, I saw somewhere that could be classed as a T4. I rock climbed up to a point, where I trapped myself and could go neither up nor down. Probably the first time I really hit a panic mode, of 'Oh Shute, what do I do now?' I calmed myself and then lowered back down again using all my upper body strength. WHEW....

I was here for 30 min now and did a PAF. He couldn't remember the cache, but we knew a T4 from Rainbow Spirit would be just that. I even got his number to send out a help call as a backup. Then, on a whim and after reading more logs, I decided to check on more place. I climbed, traversed and got to a spot that was kinda scary. I knew this had to be it. I searched and then found the cache uncovered, but definately out of sight. YEAH !!!! GOTCHA !!!! I SL, TNLN and replaced again. I decided to continue up and found the road again. Crisis over.

Thanx RS, for a great cache in a good scary spot. I like it when I find these type on my own, so well done. Still now sure abouth the hint though, but I got there in the end. TFTC.

Found as part of attending the W R E C K event which was great event with a huge turn out even more so being winter. The few spots of rain and clouds soon disappeared for great paddling weather up to The Needles. The caches up and down the river provide good breaks from paddling. We soon got the hang of the multis and which ones had co-ords for the other ones. Thanks to Sky Dog for maintaining the caches before the event. It was certainly beneficial to cache as a group as more eyes the better although we did overload some of the landing spots and almost needed Harbour Patrol to direct traffic but it was all good fun.

Once back at the W R E C K start and waiting for a few paddlers to come in we ducked off to quickly complete the nearby Muddy's First cache where we collected a Travel Bug. We also took the opportunity to find talk to a few others for other good near by cache suggestions.

After leaving the event we got a nearby park to grab Woronora River Bridge. Certainly great views and after working out the camera locations we spotted the cache in between muggle breaks. After conquering our fears we had the cache in hand and completed the signing duties before re hiding.

Toxic Butt Syndrome was recommended to us at the event. We had a little trouble getting a start point but eventually found the right side street but missed going in on the most direct route at the end of the street which we found on the way out. It was a bit of a climb to GZ but worth the views. At our GZ we could not locate the cache but knew it had to be nearby some where so we expanded the search. We had the right idea on the hide and after traversing north with a few tricky turns and manoeuvres and found the cache and picked up a travel bug after signing the log. We noted down the clue for its sister mystery but did not think we could solve it on the spot so returned the cache to its hide and moved on.

Alien Abduction #5 The Point of Contact was next. We read we would get dirty but after some of the mud at the event we where dressed for this. Just as we where about to hop out of the car an other car pulled up with a kayak on top so we knew it was a cache mobile. We teamed up made the short distance down to GZ. The cache was in the right spot and nice and dry. With the signing complete we grabbed the code clues (looks like another series we will have to complete!) And made our way back up top. J + J.au were kind enough to give us some pointers to the other nearby cache we had ear marked which was next.

Armed with a few pointers we made the short distance into Woronora Wonder and saw the great view and where we had been before for Up The Creek. We carefully got to the right level and traversed Bella style to spot the cache. You certainly need to watch your footing and hand holds hear. We completed the signing duties and then began the trip home north.

We spotted a little run of caches on the way back which was The Garden of Eden, Henry Lawson Drive View, Along the Boardwalk and Numbers 1 and 2 which we all found and signed. The ones with nano's talking a little longer to grab.

The beauty of this place is the view to the Lucas Heights Research Labs. We've just finished a neutron scattering experiment half an hour ago - that's why I took the opportunity to seek for some caches in this part of the world. In the neutron beam, we were cooking steel into the austenite phase above 1100K, then quench to some 600K and watch the nano lamellar bainite grow. If you get it right, you'll have a really hard and tough steel which will make your car frames thinner and thus lighter.

Parked the Blue Desert Drive in that ugly shire suburb - much to dense construction and lawn mowed with scissors designed for cutting nails. What a contrast to the nice bush around and the cliffs I love. Unfortunately the place is very noisy with sounds from motor cycling and a shooting station across. That's where the federal police trains.

Jumped down a few rocks and found the cache instantly. Ahh, a little bit of stretching after so many days in the office or at the beamlines. Still a bit stiff in my back - so thanks for taking me out here. Sat on the rock platform next to the cache, all the logging and just relaxing a bit - before hunting three more on my list in the area.

The Arkaroo - who loves the mountains and the waters.

With new android in hand, I thought it be time to see how it went doing our favourite hobby. Using c: geo and GPS Status I soon had it. Very tricky but totally enjoyable. The river is a top spot and I have never found it's depth. TFTC

Coming from the bottom it was definitely worth the 4 stars! Getting out was quit easier. Enjoyed the views from here.
