In the area today with SueDan83 for our weekly Wednesday caching expedition. The Sutherland Shire is an area I really haven't spent a lot of time exploring up until now, so it has been great to discover lots of lovely new locations on our weekly trips. As we had parked nearby to complete a couple of other caches, of course we could not pass this one by. We approached from the top and as we did so a strong wind swept in which made things a little interesting. Was glad to have SD83 with me and his assistance with this one as I was definitely feeling a little nervy! Nice spot, TFTC!
It's a big day today and a big day deserves a special activity to make sure it is a day to remember.
The problem at present is that we are under LGA COVID lockdown. We are so lucky that there are still plenty of caches in the Shire that we haven't attempted.
We could have selected a day long bushwalk into Heathcote National Park but given the BOM's EWN's warning that a storm was going to hit mid afternoon. We looked around and selected 2 caches at Barden Ridge by Rainbow Spirit and Team Webguy instead. They are almost drive to but have Terrain ratings that should be a bit special.
After visiting this area for another reason last week, we had a look for this cache and after trying for over 1/2 hour we decided to leave without success.
This was the first of our caches and after parking, we walked to where our GPS's indicated GZ was. So different from the other approach but still enough to lift the heart beat and fear level. Tried several different lines of approach to get to what we believed was the correct altitude before sliding into the groove. This looked possible and while shaking we spent a good 1/4 hour searching before feeling a surface which wasn't rock or animal in texture.
Very impressed, added a favourite, visited trackables and left one to be moved along.
TFTC!

After parking on Thomas Mitchell Dr. i headed down to the GZ. Given the clue and the terrain i had an idea of where to start looking and carefully headed to a level i thought would be a good place to start.
I dont know if i just got lucky but within about 5 mins of getting to the GZ i spotted something interesting and had the CIH.
Log signed i sat on the edge for a while and just enjoyed the view out over the valley.
Thanks.

3rd find of the day. Cycled down the fire-trail. That was a mistake, as I had to climb my way back up the cliff to start the search (should've stayed on the road level on the bike!) Some previous logs helped me home in on the correct level. Then a bit more scrambling down - up - down before spotting the cache the second time around the same spot. Blends in very nicely with the camo.

We parked the car nearby and headed towards gz. Brewmaker had been here before, but I soon spotted a likely location, with some guidance. I was soon on my hands and knees crawling - this was spooky! But, I couldn' find the cache. Seems I just didn't reach far enough and all I saw were rocks. So then the cache was located, log signed, and replaced. TFTC
This was one of my targets for the day as this cache qualifies for the Scenic Adventurer challenge in the Corrobare Forests up near Cessnock. It was one of four qualifiers I managed to find today which was a real bonus for me as they are not the easiest caches to find usually,
Picked an access point and jumped down and made a quick find within minutes. Hung my feet out over the edge to sign the log and enjoy the view. What a cracking spot this is. There was a time this adventure would have been a bit nerve wracking for me but it seems caching adventures have made me somewhat more immune to high ledges that I was in the past HAHA A quick find and then off the next one. TNLN TFTC
Thanks for the scenic adventure, climb and cache!
This is my 156th Rainbow Spirit hide that I have found out of his 168 total hides. Unfortunately those 12 are now archived. But for now it is a complete set!!!
As always it is a great spot well hidden. Amazing views!
TFTC.
After many approaches and perilous scrambles on hands and knees, I eventually returned to a spot I had been to earlier. This time I looked and felt a little deeper, and I had CIH after nearly an hour. Some of the places I had looked were outright suicidal as I made this more difficult than I should have. The terrain certainly deserves it's rating!
Once I had the signed the log, I sat on the ledge and contemplated the glorious views to the river below and to ANSTO and the cliffs in the distance. Is that a Red Gum I see over there? What a great place to put this hide. But be very careful of the steep drops!
TFTC. Amazing! #659
Once the GPSr settled a bit of a climb down and had CIH. I keep thinking that at my age I really shouldn't be doing this. Anything for a smiley and great views.

Stopped here not know what to expect until I pushed thru the shrubs from the road. WOW.. Awesome!!!
But I came for the cache not the view, so I started hunting.. Come on really over the edge.. So I climbed down.. Nothing to scary.. With some poking around I was able to find the prize. TFTC
As I happened to be in the area picking some furniture we bought online, I figured I would make the most of the day and find a few higher terrain caches, and after finding the nearby alien abduction, this one sparked my interest. I arrived at GZ to a wonderful view below, and wondered how far I needed to get down to get to the cache. After dropping down one level, to my surprise I spotted the cache just sticking out of it's hidey hole. Signed the log, and then sat with my legs dangling over the edge just looking out at the view. A wonderful spot indeed.
Gratias Rainbow Spirit.
A quick and easy affair given the circumstances.
Thanks RS.
Took Friday 13th TB to move along

So, off to Woronora for some kayaking. Got here early, which gave me some time to do some extra difficult caches. Took the low road into this one, wondering when the terrain was going to come into play. Didn't have to wonder for long, and was soon looking for a way up. Did the scramble and landed pretty quickly at the right altitude, longitude and, as a bonus, lattitude
Hunted around for a bit and realised I would have to get on all-fours to access this one. Take care as there are vertical drops right at GZ. The cache needed a few things so I left a badge on a peg, a capsicum, and some small pegs with ladybirds attached. TN, SL.
This is truly a "Woronora Wonder" the views are excellent. TFTC Rainbow Spirit.
1st day of my holidays and what a day to cache after all the bad weather.
From above I spotted the box. It was upside-down and exposed. Found my way level to the cache, water had gotten inside.
Signed log, and put it under cover, right way up so hopefully no more water will get in.
P.s who's responsible for the RTA receipt -.-
The GPSr showed I got as close as 1m from GZ, so in the fading light, by headlight, I pulled out to try and grab another of harder caches I loaded up.
TFTC experience; not sure when I'll be back, but, I was so close !!! Not sure that I would have tried it in the dark - solo.
(Edited to change date back to 19/7/12)
I checked the terrain on Google, it looked close to the houses, so how bad can this one be? I initially wanted to go via the top, but then once I drove over, found a firetrail. Cool. I started walking and before long came from below and saw where I needed to be.
Now the 'fun' began! I started climbing and searching and climbing some more. The hint wasn't than much help as I scoured around for signs of the cache. I climbed some steep places and saw the drops down. Then, I saw somewhere that could be classed as a T4. I rock climbed up to a point, where I trapped myself and could go neither up nor down. Probably the first time I really hit a panic mode, of 'Oh Shute, what do I do now?' I calmed myself and then lowered back down again using all my upper body strength. WHEW....
I was here for 30 min now and did a PAF. He couldn't remember the cache, but we knew a T4 from Rainbow Spirit would be just that. I even got his number to send out a help call as a backup. Then, on a whim and after reading more logs, I decided to check on more place. I climbed, traversed and got to a spot that was kinda scary. I knew this had to be it. I searched and then found the cache uncovered, but definately out of sight. YEAH !!!! GOTCHA !!!! I SL, TNLN and replaced again. I decided to continue up and found the road again. Crisis over.
Thanx RS, for a great cache in a good scary spot. I like it when I find these type on my own, so well done. Still now sure abouth the hint though, but I got there in the end. TFTC.
Once back at the W R E C K start and waiting for a few paddlers to come in we ducked off to quickly complete the nearby Muddy's First cache where we collected a Travel Bug. We also took the opportunity to find talk to a few others for other good near by cache suggestions.
After leaving the event we got a nearby park to grab Woronora River Bridge. Certainly great views and after working out the camera locations we spotted the cache in between muggle breaks. After conquering our fears we had the cache in hand and completed the signing duties before re hiding.
Toxic Butt Syndrome was recommended to us at the event. We had a little trouble getting a start point but eventually found the right side street but missed going in on the most direct route at the end of the street which we found on the way out. It was a bit of a climb to GZ but worth the views. At our GZ we could not locate the cache but knew it had to be nearby some where so we expanded the search. We had the right idea on the hide and after traversing north with a few tricky turns and manoeuvres and found the cache and picked up a travel bug after signing the log. We noted down the clue for its sister mystery but did not think we could solve it on the spot so returned the cache to its hide and moved on.
Alien Abduction #5 The Point of Contact was next. We read we would get dirty but after some of the mud at the event we where dressed for this. Just as we where about to hop out of the car an other car pulled up with a kayak on top so we knew it was a cache mobile. We teamed up made the short distance down to GZ. The cache was in the right spot and nice and dry. With the signing complete we grabbed the code clues (looks like another series we will have to complete!) And made our way back up top. J + J.au were kind enough to give us some pointers to the other nearby cache we had ear marked which was next.
Armed with a few pointers we made the short distance into Woronora Wonder and saw the great view and where we had been before for Up The Creek. We carefully got to the right level and traversed Bella style to spot the cache. You certainly need to watch your footing and hand holds hear. We completed the signing duties and then began the trip home north.
We spotted a little run of caches on the way back which was The Garden of Eden, Henry Lawson Drive View, Along the Boardwalk and Numbers 1 and 2 which we all found and signed. The ones with nano's talking a little longer to grab.

Parked the Blue Desert Drive in that ugly shire suburb - much to dense construction and lawn mowed with scissors designed for cutting nails. What a contrast to the nice bush around and the cliffs I love. Unfortunately the place is very noisy with sounds from motor cycling and a shooting station across. That's where the federal police trains.
Jumped down a few rocks and found the cache instantly. Ahh, a little bit of stretching after so many days in the office or at the beamlines. Still a bit stiff in my back - so thanks for taking me out here. Sat on the rock platform next to the cache, all the logging and just relaxing a bit - before hunting three more on my list in the area.
