Saw more kangaroos than cockatoos on this excursion! And a lizard scrambling up a tree which was pretty cool.Brilliant cache! Terrific puzzle, AND I learned something. Awesome ground zero, tucked away in a classic case of urban Canberra scrub. And great container which fits perfectly into its spot. Thanks!
Greetings from Tasmania, solved this puzzle for age ago, fi ally make go there for big Mega Event soon.. decide stay here for few weeks Accompanied with ALL7 , great enjoyed day at GZ, found spot and ummm difficult retrieval by growing over branch so reach to get out.. signed the log with good dry.. When I was a kid, we used to have a big flock of cockatoos visit our backyard on a regular basis. There were a couple with this disease over the years, which was very sad to see. Cache was in an awkward position to extract, but got there after some creative and persistent jimmying. Saw some friendly and healthy cockies espied while departing GZ. TFTC
Quick easy find at gz. The puzzle however took many tries over several years. Whilst it was an easy research I kept on getting the wrong answers for two questions. Persistence paid off and I finally found the solution. TFTC.
#554 After picking up a multi with Turtle we moved ourselves along to make a mystery find for Turtle’s calendar. He had solved this one a bit ago and wanted to finally have a look for the final. He headed us in towards GZ where we were met by hundreds of cockatoos, a perfect named cache, they’re calls could be heard from a couple of hundred metres away. Once arrived I made a quick find, now to head home and solve the puzzle for myself. Once home I made some good work on the cache and only claimed the find once I had it solved. Thanks for the puzzle Noikmeister
#2487 Solved about a month ago and just waiting for the right moment to head to GZ. After picking up a Multi on Mt Wanniassa, DT and I headed over to have a crack at collecting this one. Wow, the cache name is certainly apt as we were welcomed by the chorus of hundreds of cockatoos perched in the branches overhead. Container located quickly enough and logged, then returned to the serenity of the car. Thanks Noikmeister for preparing this cache.
On my seventh attempt in Canberra I made my second find. Nice puzzle and tricky hide.

On our way down south, to hike in a small part of Rob Roy Reserve, we picked up a few stray caches on our way through the burbs.

Out for a little caching on my four hour window for adventure! Lockdown has bought a totally different approach to caching with the introduction of homework! Much time for homework in fact. Therefore many more puzzles solved, both as a solo and collective effort. Thanks to my fellow geo buddies for assistance when needed.
And in between were a few traditionals, though not nearly as many of them left these days
Logs all in good condition unless otherwise noted.
Thanks to noikmeister for putting out and maintaining all of these caches for our enjoyment!

"Food was cold, the burrito was so poorly wrapped that it looks like it was just scrunched up in a ball and it fell apart whilst trying to eat it. There were no serviettes to clean up the mess created by the explosion the bad wrapping created. There was too much garlic sauce that made it even messier to clean up. I felt that the burrito artist had very little idea what an actual burrito looks like and how it's meant to function in the whole fast-food convenience world. The one saving grace was that it actually tasted like a burrito. I will not be ordering from this store again for quite some time."
Do you think you're living an ordinary life? You are so mistaken it's difficult to even explain. The mere fact that you exist makes you extraordinary. The odds of you existing are less than winning the lottery, but here you are. Are you going to let this extraordinary opportunity pass?
At that moment he had a thought that he'd never imagine he'd consider. "I could just cheat," he thought, "and that would solve the problem." He tried to move on from the thought but it was persistent. It didn't want to go away and, if he was honest with himself, he didn't want it to.
She patiently waited for his number to be called. She had no desire to be there, but her mom had insisted that she go. She's resisted at first, but over time she realized it was simply easier to appease her and go. Mom tended to be that way. She would keep insisting until you wore down and did what she wanted. So, here she sat, patiently waiting for her number to be called.

Some research at home last night taught me about the disease. This afternoon down to GZ for a quick find amongst the well used BMX tracks (and even a remarkably developed cycle path interchange!). Thanks, Noikmeister.
Headed into Canberra with fitzy_1965 for a bit of caching.
Took about 10mins to solve recently. I did not know about the disease so thank you for teaching me something.
Nice walk into GZ where we were accompanied by a couple of muggles on their BMX's. Thankfully they were more interested in the jumps than what we were doing. Lawnmowers were the sound of the day today but we did see some kangaroos on the way in.
Thanks Noikmeister.

Solved some time ago. Quick.find at GZ. TFTC. We get cockatoos with this disease at our place. It is very sad to see them.
I was out and about with Joolay, Aquilus1 and Tankengine for a bit of caching fun.
We had some time up our sleeves so we dashed about collecting caches on the list that all of us had accumulated to pickup while in the deep South ; )
All in all it was a pleasant afternoon with da Gang. I must admit I hadn't solved some multis or puzzles that we went to, but I will/have looked at them and am impressed with the calibre of them. TFTC Noikmeister!!!

What an amazing spot. Have never been in this area before though I have been through the suburb a lot.
Found with DTY73, Aquilus1 and TE picking up a few around Tuggeranong after defeating the Tunnel of Terror. Beautiful day and great company. TFTC

Having successfully wallowed through the drains in the morning, with dty73, joolay and Tankengine we continued on for an afternoon of south side caching... complete with our still wet and no doubt very smelly feet! Not wanting to walk to far with our wet shoes, it was just a few easy from the car caches. A good opportunity to collect a few long overdue caches in the area.
Poor birds, that's a horrible disease. GZ was a nice area though and lots of Kangaroos about, so many. Thanks for the cache Noikmeister.

Found on the way home this evening (daily cache #283). It was a nice and quick find. Saw a quite a few healthy looking cockatoos too. I had solved this one back on 4/12/18 so it was good to finally tick it off my list. I've definitely seen parrots with this disease. Quite sad photos but now I know what this thing is. An informative cache. TFTP
Really sad cache, I was a little shocked the first time I opened it and scrolled down. I had no idea this was such a problem.
Found with The Matetrix. Plenty of healthy loud cockatoos about on approach to GZ. A quick find, sign and back to the geomobile. Cockatoos still making a racket as we left. TNLNSL TFTC
A fairly sad theme to this puzzle, and the pictures on the cache page are a little disheartening too! Poor Cockatoo's
We were grabbing a few caches in the suburbs now and this was on our list. We got to GZ and I spotted something worth investigating. A very interesting cache container indeed! Took some arm strength from DSD to remove the lid. Thanks TikvaNZ for retrieving the cache from the location it was stuck in, it is still hidden very well!
Thanks

Thanks for Cockatoo Forest Noikmeister. A cool cache. Signed dsd, darkside or darksidedan
Thanks for the cache. We solved the puzzle a couple of weeks ago and headed out today to make the find. After a relatively quick search we had the cache in hand.

After completing AR Time Twister with AngelG27 and Fox in Jox to share in the celebration of AngelG27 reaching her 4000th cache find, we parted ways. I focused on solved puzzles in and near Waniassa. I solved this a couple of weeks ago, but as the checker wasn't working contacted the CO, to verify my answer. I had one question wrong which was soon rectified. Once at GZ, I could see the cache, but it took a good half hour to finally retrieve it. I was determined not to give up. I left it much easier to retrieve, and well disguised. TFTC.

I found cache but can't get out bec the hollow grow close.. I'm trying my hand can't get Cache.. cache stuck .. see photo.. thanks
Decided to start my investigation of steps and flights for The 481 Steps. But seeing as I wouldn't complete that cache today, I needed another to complete instead. Cockatoos...I have plenty around the house. I thought learning a few things would be interesting. It was. Soon had the right checksum, so I invited geopartner and geohound to join me for a Valentine's walk (ahhhh...my romantic side).
Soon got to GZ and found the well hidden container. Geopartner extracted, while I manipulated. Geohound just watched the 'mob' of kangaroos, who in turn watched us. Fun solve and find. TFTC NM

Thanks for the cache. A bit of research to solve the puzzle and then a bit of problem solving to get the cache out. A great hiding spot.
Another puzzle we had fun solving some time ago, and today was the day for a visit to the southern parts of Canberra and to collect a few caches. This one was a short walk from where we had parked, and it was Mrs Domsky who made the find....a lucky spotting before she climbed too high.
Thanks noikmeister,

Although the condition is somewhat distressing, we enjoyed learning about the disease as we solved the puzzle. Today we went to look for the cache. The screech of cockatoos told us that we were in the right area. It took a couple of minutes to locate the cache in a very good hide and then some effort to retrieve the cache. The well designed cache container and its contents were in good condition. Thanks noikmeister for an interesting puzzle and the cache.
F(H)ound It! No.1145 - @9:08:00 AM
I felt duty bound to find this cache as the CO had spied my workings in my puzzle workings book at the last Puzzle Solving Event. Thank you for teaching me about this awful disease, poor blighters. I thought this was an affliction of caged birds only before now.
At GZ, I spotted the likely hide from a distance and quickly had CIH. Although its not dusk there are still a lot of birds around making a racket.
I remember my flatmate, a postdoc from Germany, waking me up terrified at the terrible noise outside her window. It took me some time to convince her it was our local birds courting and flirting with each other. Sounded a bit like a cross between a double-semi changing gears and Quasimodo with bronchitis Thanks for the cache, noikmeister

Finding some caches for the day. Solved this one a little while ago. Recent logs helped. Did not expect it. TFTC Noikmeister
Accompanied with All7 for the day, we cant find everywhere but that was missing the caches. Can you check for your cache. Thank you noikmeister
DNF with dragon1982... we looked everywhere but nothing there... pls check up.. thank
I solved but as in your hint I reckon I need to climb and the magpie did not want me to. Maybe next time.
Solved this one a little while ago on a rainy day. Such an insidious disease this one. I used to have a hooded parrot that had it
So after making the collect on another nm puzzle cache, I decided to give this one a crack as well. Made the short wander down from the car then it was on with the search. Looked into a few nooks and crannies at first before I returned back to one in particular, stretched and shined the torch in a bit more. Aha! SUCCESS! Definitely a departure from the standard sort of container used in this spot. Good one!
Had to be very careful with the torch so as not to disturb the subjects over GZ which the puzzle is about
Thanks for another neat puzzle and hide, noikmeister-fave from me

Well I did my research differently but still came up with an answer that the geochecker agreed with. Got to GZ but couldn't find the cache. Spent a long time looking but couldn't spot it. Used my camera to peak into every hidey hole but nudda.
While I was in the area I decided to swing past and grab this one also. Luckily for me, it was muggle free here today except for the dozen or so roo's who were hanging around.
I have had this one solved for a while now so it was only time I made the find on the cache.
Once at GZ I noticed the cache nice and quickly. But hmm how do I get it.... Being all of 5 foot nothing, this was going to be interesting. However I managed to get my finger tips on it and retrieved it accordingly. Log was pretty damp and is in need of replacement (message sent to CO already with a photo). I signed down the bottom of the page, it was just dry enough for me to sign without tearing it.
Thanks for the interesting puzzle Noikmeister and cache placement.

The third find of the day. I had solved this one before but I missed out on doing this one last time I passed through the area. At GZ, I really got the name of the cache as an enormous group of cockatoos flew away, screeching so loudly that the CO may have heard them! An interesting hide at GZ, a bit of a pain to retrieve though. Log signed and cache replaced. TFTC noikmeister!
Today my grandad and I found most of the caches around Fadden. This was the first one for the day.
I had solved this puzzle quite some time ago - and it was today that I found it. Fortunately, I haven't seen any birds with this disease and saw plenty of healthy cockatoos on the way to this cache. There was also lots of feathers on the ground. We made it to GZ and spotted the cache fairly quickly - it was just the problem of retrieving it. We eventually did - nice hidey hole!
Our thanks to noikmeister for teaching us about the condition and for the cache.

I think this is my first Noikmeister puzzle solved - probably a good one to start one! It was interesting to learn about this disease - I have not noticed this disease in any of the cockatoos that regularly dive bomb our house at 5am.... I was at the GZ around 5:30pm and it was certainly noisy enough then!
Cache was eventually retrieved without BMX muggles around although it took them a few minutes to head home for dinner. I was a bit confused about where it might be but eventually spied and retrieved it - lucky I am not height challenged. Log was damp, but okay to write on.
Am pleased to save this cache from being unloved...it was a close run thing!
Thanks Noikmeister for the cache and lesson!

forgot to log this one. first my favorite thing about this cache is its raising awareness about this terrible virus. I've caught four cockatoos in my garden with this disease, two of them were so weak they didn't even fight back. If you do get a hold of any with the disease please take them to the RSPCA or they'll direct you to the local vet to put the animal down for free. Much better then letting them suffer and potentially contaminate other birds.
second, great to finally visit the local shops to see whats up...surprised to see a vet there. and even at 2pm there were a few cockatoos around. parked and had a quick walk to GZ, tftc!

Top hide!! Favorite from me. It took quite a bit of fiddling to get the cache, but I did it. The log is pretty damp. This is more fallout from the Northside Puzzle night - I'm motivated to collect my solved puzzles, and solve more. I knew that cockatoos and galahs got this disease, but I wasn't aware that it affected almost all parrots worldwide. Thanks for the info and the cache, Noikmeister!!!
#1163 - 13:15; Solved this one a while back after the last visit to this area and dropped by to pick it up as I was back in the area. Encountered an intersection of bike paths on the way to GZ which put the Glenloch Interchange to shame! Interesting spot and a clever hiding place too. Managed to locate ther cache fairly quickly, then after signing duties were complete, it was off ro more of what Tuggeranong has to offer. TFTC noikmeister
399 Startled some roos as I neared GZ. Neat hide and unusual container. Tks noikmeister for the cache and for what I learned while doing the research.

Finally we found this one! Tried for about an hour and had to give up and come back. Climbed trees and checked the GPS a million times when we finally - when looking again for the third or fourth time got our hand on it. Good one! Lots of roos, ibis, and cockatoos here.
Day 95; cache 95. This has to be one of the best caches I have done. Came here at the time suggested and wow we were impressed, the noise the birds and the feathers everywhere were fantastic and had the geokids collecting every kind of feather they could see, which was a lot! Thank you so much for bringing us here!!!!! TFTC!
'2013: 95 Days In A Row' - Turned up to GZ on sunset, and what a noise! Flocks of cockatoos and ibis flying around, and feathers everywhere... It took us a bit to find the cache, and we looked everywhere before Fraggles looked back where we started as I was climbing down from the tree... lol Thanks for the fun cache, it was a great experience!
A nice puzzle and better hide.
Found with the Jr Cachehunter out on a post-lunch walk and scoot.

Your not kidding......almost needed the airplugs!...although the birds all look rather healthy.
Another puzzle done awhile ago, and today a successful find while out crossing off the to do list...unconventional search technique was invented at this one.....nearly end us both in the mud....many laughs and soon the hide revealed itself....the day was drawing to a close nearly time to pack up and head home to the warmth.

Here at the specified time! After all that research I can definitely get a good look at these birdies. Not the prettiest birdsong in the world but agreed you could get some great photos here. TFTC.
A nice walk from home. Surprisingly the track was abandoned today - I had expected to find it busy being school holidays.
Reperio at 0955. This was another puzzle cache that eluded me before moving away from the ACT, but not anymore. I did the research for this one a couple of weeks ago when I knew I would be passing by this weekend, and it was pretty interesting to find out the details of such a common disease. Today I was joined by haveanez, and we enjoyed the stroll through this nice natural spot to GZ. Always great to learn something new.

Found out and about with Marcus Vitruvius on our first real cache run in the ACT. Credit to MV for doing the hard yards with this puzzle. Really enjoyed the area at GZ on a pleasant stroll.
The pictures of the sick cockatoos are a little sad unfortunately - but thanks for sharing this with us - you do learn something everyday.
Many thanks norkmeister for the puzzle and cache. TNLN SL

Was walking by tonight and checked on the cache, which was snug in its hidey hole.
I am glad in one way that it was in the dark of night we visited this spot. Well here we where passing by houses trying to be as quite as possible so not to wake people up when someone was not watching where they were walking (ok bottle hidden in long grass) and as if a shot gun had gone off and after the long cry of thousands of Cockatoo's screamed out though the night and we finished laughing at the noise it caused the cache was located and signed before leaving the scene. Oh and guess what someone manage to do on the way out. We left full of laughter to a roar of a thousand Cockatoo's sang out to all those who would listen.

Having completed the required research, a good set of co-ords was compiled. I didn't realize there was so many different diseases they could get.
It was all quiet as we approached GZ at just before 5am. That was until I trod on a discarded plastic bottle in the long grass. The noise it made and the subsequent screeching from the hundreds of disturbed birds was deafening. Sure it must of woken up the whole neighborhood. We quickly started the search and soon had the cache in hand.
An interesting and educational cache. Thanks Norkmeister

3381 - Several finds after work today with Sol....
I enjoyed this puzzle. Its sad to see the sick birds in the wild though. I couldnt find all the right info when the puzzle was first published, but a fresh look today since we were to be in the area resulted in a nice solution. A quick find at GZ - thanks Norkmeister !!

Fitzy and I looked at this one when it first came out, but couldn't get/find all the info, so gave it away for a while. Unbeknown to me, fitzy had another look today and everything fell into place. So after work today it was an easy walk to GZ where, after a short search, we came up trumps with the cache. Neat hiding spot and niftly container.......have we seen one like it close by maybe?????
Thanks norkmeister for an interesting and informative cache.

Solved this one a fair while ago. Had been down even for one attempt, but the bmx bandits made it hard to do. Today we were down this way again. No bmx's about and we made a easy find. Being a old budgie breeder knew of this condition TFTC
Great cache, as a bird lover the pictures made me sad, cache very well hidden, had to abort first attempt as the BMX bandits were in the area, very well hidden. TFTC
This puzzle caused me some grief & I'm still not sure I had the coords 100% because I couldn't get the checksums to work - fortunately I had forgotten that small fact when I was out today, so I approached GZ with a degree of confidence that was probably unwarranted (& may have caused me to pull the pin after my first unsuccessful efforts). In the end it was McPhan's log that convinced me to have another attempt & I was able to extract that which was not evident to the naked eye.
Visited a Cockatoo TB which seemed appropriate (unfortunately the cache was a bit too squeezy to leave him).
Spotted only one live cockatoo in the forest today - but there were signs of many, many, many more if all the feathers are any indication!

Spotted only one live cockatoo in the forest today - but there were signs of many, many, many more if all the feathers are any indication!

Height challenged? Ha! You're just a freak McPhan...
Another interesting topic and good hide. TFTC.

3236. [font=Comic Sans Ms][green]The GPS told me we could get closer but no - there was a short walk involved. And then there was embarrassment because I could (and did) look straight into the hidey hole - nothing. I then proceeded to try and climb the tree but Dicky Knee wouldn't let me get far. It was then that FFP pulled a rabbit out of a hat - or at least a cache out of where I'd looked. Put it back after logging and looked again - couldn't see it. Sometimes being height challenged has it's advantages

I was interested to read about the plight of these birds and the ailment causing it. I'm also grateful for the clue to get me started otherwise I might still be researching it. The walk to GZ was really quite nice and I began to appreciate how nice it must be to have so much greenery on one's doorstep. The final hide took me a couple of attempts to locate and was a little bit different to what I was expecting!

Yay! Determined GZ fairly easily with only a small amount of googling. Decided this would make a good companion to a few of Sol's Tuggeranong Suburb caches that were still outstanding so arrived here enroute from TS-Gowrie and before TS-Macarthur. First attempt was aborted due to several BMX'ers right at GZ. No worries - off to TS Macarthur and back again just on dusk which is exactly the right time to attempt this. So back to the same spot....you need to be tall according to the clue so I get really tall....about 4-5meters tall. I was looking everywhere up high and finding nothing. Time to call in a favour so whilst hanging around I made a call to the owner who let me know that yes....you do need to be of reasonable height to reach this but 5m is not exactly a reasonable height! [:o)] Back down and found with a little assistance from some local detrius as a boost (even though Norkmeister kindly offered to wander down and help also as he was close-by and available). Well - that was a lot of fun and worth the second attempt. TFTC.
Don't you hate logs that say "Solved this one ages ago but have only just got around to finding the cache".
I do but here I am making one myself. Apparently I had a solution back in March.
It looked like a good opportunity to come here today and place a Norkmeister TB.
Maybe just a visit.

Second attempt, definitely more enjoyable in the dry weather. I looked and looked and looked, eventually went to the car for some extra equipment. Looked again at the only possible place the cache could be, and there it was. I had somehow overlooked it last time I was here, and in my searching today. But eventually spotted the bugger!
Thanks Norkmeister, a very nice spot to visit and all the more enjoyable for cleaning up a past DNF.

One that we solved a long time ago but we're only now collecting this morning on a lazy hour or two around Tuggeranong and Weston. Thanks Norkmeister.
#584 - Solved this one about a month ago, but when we visited GZ there were a number of lads playing in the near vacinity.
I had never realised that the cockatoos were suffering from a disease. I remember seeing sickly birds as far back as the 1970's, particularly hanging around horse paddocks, but always assumed they were aged birds. Thanks for the eucation
Nice sneaky hide, took a bit to find. TNLNSL TFTC

Interesting cache to do at night, susssed out where the cache would be and as I started looking must have spooked all the sleeping birds, now didn't that scare the &^$! out of me... Anyway log signed and all was good.... Interesting and informative cache, thanks.
What can I say? I was pretty sure I was in the right spot (there were certainly plenty of cockies about), but I just couldnt find it. Maybe next time.

Man it's wet out there! Walked the dog and checked on this. It was in its little hidey-hole.
This one was a very interesting adventure with Samchopz. The puzzle was different and a great challenge but going at dusk when the cockatoo's were around made the adventure much easier. It was amazing to see so many cockatoo's and hear their loud sounds!
Great cryptic puzzle find. Went at night with rainbowmagicness so to get all the cockatoos coming to sleep for the night
Found @ 7:19pm
The cockatoos were in full cry when I made the find, what a cool spot! TFTC!!

Crystal Warrior and I were planning a southwards journey so we set out to solve this this morning. We probably benefited form those who have gone before and managed to avoid too much confusion of the details. After some head scratching on one question and a pointer from the owner, we got a viable solution.
At GZ we hunted around in circles for a bit before zooming in on the cache. A nice hide and well concealed.
Thanks Norkmeister for the puzzle and hunt.

Started solving this the other day but found some articles which gave different answers to the questions. Finally used the paper recommended by the cache owner but was still having trouble with the Greek. Luckily I was given a little assistance and the numbers fell into place. Nice hide at GZ too. TFTC
Oooo - those pictures were rather depressing...
I quickly scrolled back to the top! - After solving puzzle (made harded by kids yelling in my ears), it was an easy find.
Interesting area that I dind't know existed. A couple of cockies about, but not late enough for the full contingent! TNLN, thanks Norkmeister!

I'm BACK!
So, which INTERNET site does one pay credence to???? A worldwide Avian consultation site, Wikipedia, Britannica (Yep, went there too), various miscellaneous pages, or the one Norkmeister wants us to find. Amazing how on something like this can have variable answers.
So, with the correct info this time, off I go again - muddier here than yesterday, no bikers around, no birdies either, no people, nuffin except a cache! THANKS.
I have seen (as the internet pages mention), many Cockatoos like this (they are common), and many times one or two look like this in a flock - I'm amazed at how they can still fly when they have little left other than their flight feathers. Thanks N for the information on just what this condition is.

OK OK ALL you previous finders, I have a MINIMUM of two INTERNET pages "proving" my numbers are correct, for EACH question, the check sums all ADD UP, but GZ is in the school grounds!
I have checked & rechecked and rechecked 5 times. Nothing amiss.
OK, in the rain, on the bike, seeing as I was in the right area (BMX track), I wandered around scouring all cubby holes etc etc - I found the hollow Giggly Geckos took a pic of, but NO CACHE anywhere in the vicinity - not having exact coords, I was limited how/where to look, in the rain. SIGH!.
Will consult Norkmeister on this.
SIGH - Internet research is B*(****& C***. (Yes, frustrated)

INTERESTING, VERY INTERESTING. I now have access to the "Official information source" (See new hint), and WOW, so much variability on the internet. [red]UNBELIEVABLE too, as one of my sources was an Avian consultation page..[/red]
Now have the corrected correct coords, will try again - on the bike of course.
PS - BTW - When I was there in the rain, there must have been 100+ Sulphur Crested Cockatoos in the trees, though they were fairly quiet with the rain.

Whoo-hooo... another Shared FTF...
A lunchtime raid with the combined resources of Oz Lurker and CazBol have resulted in the best outcome (for us, anyway ).
What seemed like a fairly simple puzzle turned out to be less so, depending on where one gathered the required info from, however Norkmeister's clues were well written - you just had to follow them correctly [:o]!!! Once that was done, the location showed itself and the cache was to hand.
Clever cache construction, but what was with all those feathers lying around? It looked like the aftermath of a cockie plucking contest!!!
Grabbed the PT to add to the collection. TFTC.
